complained of minor symptoms feeling dizzy and stomach pains. >> my two children i'm taking them home. >> reporter: parent were outraged to learn about the the drugs in the school, complaining they weren't properly notified there was no reason that the secretaries could not have made a phone call and let them know is what going on with their kids. >> main focus is the the safety of the students and that is what we were doing at the time. >> reporter: police say the mother of the student, seen here with her face covered will be interviewed. she's the not charged with any wrongdoing. >> can you tell us what happen. >> reporter: police brought in a drug sniffing dog to make sure that there were no additional drugs present in the school. none were found. meanwhile, police say it is fortunate that none of the student appeared to have been ingested significant quantities of heroin, which even, in small amounts, can be deadly. police and school officials say that they will be special counseling for the students, here, many of whom were left

frightened and shake end by what happened today. police point out at 7:00 they have no idea what heroin enis, much less, what it was doing in their classroom, on a day when a routine, stay inside class at an elementary school could have been a deadly experience. live from west philadelphia, i'm walt hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well in, weather it is a night you will want to keep your eyes on the skies, our meteorologist are tracking some storms, meteorologist kathy orr has very latest on those storms from the cbs-3 weather center now, kate. >> they started firing up late this afternoon, chris over new castle county delaware and all that activity moved east. we are seeing heavy rain through south philadelphia, that is extending down into delaware county but south jersey really the bull's eye for this. we have flash flood warnings in effect for part of the salem county, gloucester county and southern parts of the camden county in new jersey. you can see all of the red and

yellows and some lightening with this as well. rain rates were between about one to 2 inches, an hour, and right now we're still seeing that in some locations, precipitation rate of 1.44 inches an hour right here to the south of elk near winslow and gloucester and pretty much the same, south of gloucester, we are looking at rain rates between about 1 inch an hour or so, close to that, so it is dying down somewhat, as it weakens and moves east. that is good news. williamstown, victory lake seeing heavy rain. that flash flood warning in effect for southern camden, gloucester, northern salem counties until 7:00 o'clock tonight, street flooding is occurring, streams and creeks are flooding as well so never drive across the road that is covered with water. this is what michael cuomo saw in new castle county delaware. it took a few minutes to see flooding on his street, this afternoon. rain amount vary between mainly one to 2 inches of rain

in most locations, philadelphia nearly an inch of rain. coming up we will talk about a brief break we will get in this action before a heavier storm moves our way this week. that is coming up later in the broadcast, jessica. >> kathy, thanks. suspect is in custody after stabbing a bensalem police officer and then stealing his cruiser. this started at bristol pike and woodhaven road. it ended at nights night and fair dale road where the suspect was arrested. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is live with how this all unfolded, steve. >> reporter: jessica, just moments ago police released the name of the man of the man accused of not only escaping from work release but stabbing a police officer, stealing a police cruiser, giving way to a police chase before being rhea rested. police say at 1:00 this afternoon, 23 year-old matthew miller, went missing from work release patrols were sent out, one of them was 38 year-old bensalem police officer michael jack minute ski, he stopped miller at 1:30 at

bristol pike and woodhaven. miller originally complies but right before the cuffs are about to be put on a fight breaks out, miller pulls a knife and stabs jam minute jack minute ski with an accident. miller then jumps in the police cruiser, drives in north philadelphia where he is spotted and captured on foot near benjamin rush school. police are calling jack minute sky, and this isn't first brush with death on duty. >> he went through a traumatic experience. he was in a very bad car accident where a car bursted into flames. he was lucky to be alive then, while on duty, yeah. he was responding to a felony call, a truck pulled out of there and his car has burst into flames. >> reporter: all while on duty, he was formally a four year veteran of the philadelphia police force and now a six year veteran of the bensalem police force.

miller meanwhile is awaiting charges, and he will ab rain on charges. that is latees from bensalem police headquarters i'm steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks very much. right now authorities are keeping an eye out for sharks on the delaware beaches, after a teenager was bitten by a small shark. we will get a first look at his injuries tonight. the boy was bitten at the state park in sussex county. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is live in bellmawr where the teenager is recovering tonight, syma. >> reporter: what was supposed to be a fun peaceful day at the beach turned terrifying for one teen. this is what andrew vance's arm looks like after he was bitten by a shark. he posted this picture on facebook. the teen was swimming at the beach park in delaware on monday evening. officials say it is unheard of for a shark to bite swimmers in this area in 20 years i have not dealt with any shark

by the, in the state park history here. >> reporter: by looking at the injury experts believe he was bitten by a young sandbar shark. >> this shark was not interested in feeding. it looked like an instinct bite. >> reporter: they say it is common to see sandbar sharks this time of the year in this area but another factor could have drawn in more sharks. >> there was a large carc us on the beach for last couple days so it brought in a the lot of sharks to feed on it. >> reporter: sixteen year-old was in 5 feet of water when shark bit his arm. >> the sharks are very placid and rarely interest act. >> reporter: despite that people are apprehensive at the beach. >> i found out someone else was bit. >> reporter: beach was off limits after swimmers after the incident but it reopened tuesday afternoon after state park officials didn't find anymore shark activity. as they stress this is uncommon, not something would you see in the popular have movie. >> i don't think you need a bigger boat, no the this time. >> reporter: that was syma chowdhry reporting.

>> two people are dead including a student after a shooting a the a high school in port land, oregon. gunman shot and killed a student with the rifle at reynolds high school in troutdale. suspect was later found dead in the bathroom. students and staff held their hand in the eras they were evacuated and police cleared that scene. >> we just heard two gunshots, every within was freaking out and we ran in the weight room hallway and we hid and lock all of the doors. >> motive for that shooting is under investigation. there is no word on the identity of the gunman. a delaware county woman is on life support after investigators say her husband shot her in the head and then turn the gun on himself this happened around 8:00 o'clock in the 600 block of west ashland avenue in glenn older even. the the couple is in their 60's there has been no motive establish for that shooting. philadelphia police are searching for two men who tied up a robbed a woman during a home invasion overnight. suspects broke in the second

well, it is once again a sticky, stormy day out there. unfortunately it sound like we better get used to it. >> lets get right to the live team three weather coverage with meteorologist kate bilo and kathy orr we will start with kate live on the sky deck, kate, sit still dry out there. >> it is still dry as far as precipitation falling from the sky but the air is very, very moist and thick and we have been steamy all day long. this is a perfect set up for these very heavy thunderstorms. lets go out to storm scab three and you can see what we are dealing with today. we have had heavy rain.

the these are more progressive then yesterday's storms. they are moving faster but we are seeing some pretty heavy rains over the same area portions of gloucester, camden counties as you can sianni as we zoom up here over south philadelphia very heavy rain there right over i-95, some slow downs, an indication of heavier rain is currently falling. if i look south from the sky deck i can see those ominous clouds. >> i want to zoom in on south philadelphia point to go citizens bank park where game is set to begin in two hours. i retweeted an eyewitness cam photo from the field and tarp is out, it is raining buckets there right now, hopefully clearing things out but, you can see flash flood warning has been extended to include portions of south philadelphia, also portions of camden, gloucester and salem counties extending back into new castle county. why so much rain? we have very moist tropical air in place, these storms are ringing out a sponge. there is a lack of strong flow which is upper level wind flow, which will push these storms out. very slow moving storms and

heavy moisture in the air really producing instability. heat, sunshine and these storms love to form in the atmosphere like this it is not over yet, we will send it back inside with more on how long we can expect this stormy weather to continue. >> yeah, we are looking at a lot of instability in the atmosphere and that will continue until something changes it. the change is going to becoming, unfortunately not all that soon. take a look at this picture looking across the river from center city philadelphia some brightening skies, and also, some dark clouds as we look towards south philadelphia, as well. temperatures were warm. we made it up to 85. normal 81. record 98. right now across the region we have cooler temperatures in many locations rain cooled, the rain right now, falling in south philadelphia, the temperature 73 degrees, so 12 degrees lower than our high today n wildwood 79. atlantic city 78.

still seeing some 80's in dover where we didn't pick up much rain, focused near wilmington with flash flood watches and warnings. earlier temperature there now 75 degrees. during the day we will watch this frontal boundary left toward the north, we will see a few scattered showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. that is about it. temperatures in the 80's. thursday, as our next system moving our way. more numerous showers and storms will be forming and i think those will be our most stormy days of the week. after that is when we will be seeing more stability in the atmosphere, dryer air moving back in and then finally seeing temperatures that are more comfortable. future weather has a really good handle on what is going on in south jersey right now. as we lose that day time heat ago this activity the dissipates, our wind will be easterly, that will help stabilize the the atmosphere for wednesday, but i'm not expect ago lot of rain wednesday but we will be seeing mostly cloudy skies but

before that incident, kathy? we have more flash flooding to talk about, on storm scan three the new problems were in new castle county and south jersey but we are seeing an aggressive cell dumping one to 2 inches an hour through south philadelphia, extending through delaware county and extending back into camden and gloucester counties. kind of redevelopment here and we are seeing along route 130 south, 76, in south jersey, also as you head toward mantua in south jersey as well, south of west deptford, this entire region with flooding concerns. flooding is occurring right now and to the north of west deptford near nationals park we are having an indication there could be some hail with the heavy rain. flash flood warning has been extended in to south philadelphia, parts of the eastern delaware county until 8:15 tonight. flooding is occurring in parts of the region, never across the road, that is covered with water and you never know when you will be under one of these strong thunderstorms, or

downpours. we will track storms and have the seven day forecast, jessica. we new know how long it will take tell dot officials to repair damage i495 bridge over cristina river in wilmington. that bridge has been closed to traffic since experts determined it was tilting. "eyewitness news" reporter jane carabao is live in wilmington with when it is expect to reopen, jan. >> reporter: work to stabilize this bridge here in wilmington, continue this evening but yes, we do now know that road will likely remain closed throughout the summer. dell dot release ago lot of new information today. , no it is not naming a cause just yet but they are detailing a plan in place to fix this bridge and they have a price tag too, the temporary fix alone is estimated to cost about 20 million-dollar. the date is set, dell dot new says it wants to get this bridge back in shape and opened to the 90,000 people who use it by labor day, but even then it is possible even part of the bridge may reopen. >> open southbound lanes first

because there is, less damage on that site and north bound lanes potentially a month later. >> reporter: plan is also creating a new foundation for four pairs of tilted support columns on the i495 bridge in wilmington. engineers said they sit in poor soil. new foundation would reach 140 feet down to bedrock. >> the the expertise, the equipment and the material to get this bridge reopened are on their way to delaware right now. >> reporter: contractor j.d. eckman will do this work. >> every part of this job we have donnas far as drilling down to the bedrock, installing the grade beams, jacking. jacking we do hundreds of bridges a year. >> reporter: while dell dot ising go ahead with this plan officials say is there a worst case scenario a possibility this project could take until next year to complete. >> is there a small chance we will have to completely tear down this section, this 400-foot section of the bridge and rebuild a new section. >> reporter: meanwhile questions remain about that 911 call made by a concerned driver back in april. dell dot would not say whether
