today, it is wednesday june 11th, to 20th 14, i'm natasha brown in for ukee. i'm erika von tiehl. here are stories we are following today. shock and concern after a first grader brings heroin to school. this morning we are hearing from parents whose children had to go to the hospital. jen bernstein joins with us a live report coming up. waiting for 495 bridge in delaware to reopen, don't hold your breath, latest on is what wrong and when officials now expect it to be fixed. the son of the philanthropist lewis katz makes a big announcement we will tell you why he is not moving forward with plans to buy the inquirer and daily news. more on those stories coming up. with you first lets check the forecast with kate bilo in for

katie this morning. this is the the rainy heard you say. >> basically, quote unquote driest kay. we have showers and storms especially this morning and we will clear it out this afternoon. lets look at what we're dealing with quickly on storm scan three. we have showers and storms moving into area just off to the west and you cane that segment there, what we saw ncc or a conn recollective complex moving through central pennsylvania. as i zoom in i want you to notice shape, that comma shape, generally an indication of straight line wind gusts. not seeing a ton of lightening. mainly heavy rain, west of lancaster. we expect as we go through morning that this will weaken, but the storms try to stay together until 7:00 or 8:00 and then fizzle. there is a chance those showers air storms make it into philadelphia later this morning but by afternoon hours we will clear things out and everything is looking better, by 3:00 p.m. but we are in the done with the storms this week. i will have your full forecast in a bit, natasha and erika.

parents of the students at a west philadelphia school are outraged right now after a first grader brings drugs to school. >> those mothers and boyfriend are now facing charges. "eyewitness news" reporter jen bernstein joins us at commodore john barry elementary school with that story, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you both. we have the mother on have had child as well as her boyfriend who have been charge and they are await ago rain. this morning. although their names have in the yet been released. those charges include endangering welfare of the child, recklessly endangering another person and other narcotics related offenses. here today we have those 20 school children returning here to barry he will meantry school first graders after a real scare for parents as well as teachers yesterday. we know that at least one of the packets of heroin that was taken out by this six year-old girl had been bitten. we know that she brought 11 packets of heroin to school. teachers noticed it

immediately, called police and medics came. all those children were escorted on a school bus over to children's hospital. they were examined. luckily they were okay. we did catch up with parent outside when they came to pick up their kids, they were shock, angry by what happened. >> all of the parents are stunned. >> it doesn't make sense to me. it should never have been in the home. >> reporter: the school said they did follow protocol and district spokesperson says a letter was sent home to parents. we will have more coming up at 5:00. that is very latest from west philadelphia, jen bernstein cbs-3 "eyewitness news". lets get back to kate and hear more about the forecast, kate. >> lets look at this area of showers and thunderstorms i just showed you. look at that boeing structure. you see the storms take that comma shape, this is moving quickly towards lancaster county. it is starting to weaken a bit

and should weaken throughout the morning thanks to the on shore flow which i will show new a minute. lets zoom out here and add satellite to the mix. you can see cloud cover. we are seeing some fog down the shore especially this morning, and a lot of that again thanks high pressure trying to ridge from the north. that is kicking up an easterly flow off the ocean which is trying to cool things down a little bit the today. it will not be much, much cooler but we are at 69 millville. sixty-eight wildwood. seventy-one at the the airport. seventy-two in reading. notice the wind. they are coming from the east/northeast. we are at 8 miles an hour in trenton. that east flow as it the brings that cooler air from the atlantic ocean will stabilize atmosphere and we are expecting showers and storms to weaken moving in the more stable air mass overhead. unsettled week continues, there is that weak high, ridging from the north keeping showers and storms, first batch, pushing away and a few more this afternoon and should stay off to the west. today is generally the driest

and chesterbrook boulevard. they gave me a wave as i rolled by this morning. for the the gang down the shore an accident on the garden state parkway, this is southbound, right here near avalon interchange. of course, heading down the shore keep this in mind that construction at stone harbor and avalon interchanges where those traffic lights will eventually go away. they are building overpasses over those three lights there as you south for weekend plans at the shore. eastbound pennsylvania turnpike construction between fort washington and willow grove and mass transit has no delays. erika, back to you. waking up to surprising news, son of the philanthropist lewis katz is not moving ahead with plans to buy inquirer and daily news. drew cat cats says turmoil after his father's death prompted his decision. on may 31st lewis katz and six others died in the private jet crash near boston. the just four days before that he and jerry lenfest bought the inquirer for 88 million-dollar. now, lenfest will be the soul buyer.

gunshots in camden leave a 21 year-old man in the hospital and police searching for a suspect. police say it happened near south tenth street and sheraton avenue just before 1:00 this morning. there is no word on a motive. we've got some bad news for drivers who depend on the damage i495 bridge in wilmington, delaware. be prepared for traffic jams all summer long it appears. dell dot shut down bridge between 12th street and terminal avenue because it is tilting. yesterday the officials announced earliest traffic could return to the bridge is labor day. investigating say pressure from shifting soils next to the bridge near cristina river damage support piers and push them sideways. >> the expertise, the equipment, and the material to get this bridge reopened are on their way on delaware right now. there is a small chance we will have to complete thely tear down this 400-foot section of the bridge and rebuild a new section. >> well, that worst case scenario could take crews a year to complete.

a bucks county man is being held on five million-dollar bail, for allegedly stabbing a police office are and then taking off with the cruiser. authorities say matthew miller went missing from a work release program yesterday. he was stopped by bensalem police office are michael jachimski near bristol pike and woodhaven road. that is where miller allegedly stabbed the officer and took off in his car. knife did not penetrate the bullet-proof vest. >> this is just another great story where bullet-proof vest from not a bullet but you a knife this time most likely saved his life. >> reporter: miller was taken in custody in philadelphia after abandoning that police car near ninth and fair dale roads. he faces numerous charges including attempted murder. investigators are looking at a shooting at an oregon high school. teen opened fire in reynolds high school near port land. he killed a student and wounded a teacher before killing himself. students and staff held their hands in the eras they were evacuated from the school and

in the area and it will not change at least through friday. today looks to be precipitation minimum of the week meaning showers and storms mainly off to the west so not as unsettled as past few days. lets look live outside. this is sky cam three shot. it is dark but i want you to notice the fog, you can barely see lights as atlantic city looks fogged in. we will see the visability across the region but fog has been a issue. we are seeing on shore wind developing so that will keep things cooler down the shore and it will stabilize the atmosphere. we don't expect storms to survive as well, in the atmosphere we have got for them here today. lets look at storm scan three. you can see this area of showers and thunderstorms moving east into portions of central and southern pennsylvania. portions of northern maryland as well. we will zoom in and track it and you can see that hook shape, that half moon shape, and as that moves through we will expect strong, gusty

wind. will these storms survive moving in our area we will keep an eye on them. they are holding together well starting to lift to the north and when we see lifting in the storm system like this it means it is starting to weaken. we will keep tabs and keep you posted throughout the morning. as far as temperatures are concerned it is still very warm and humid. don't need coat heading out the the door this morning. seventy-one at the airport. seventy-one allentown. sixty-five mount pocono. sixty-nine in millville. what to expect? high of 80 degrees. sunshine, very warm, humid with wind out of the east. different direction then past few days. that means things will be cooler and a little bit less rainy, so to speak, mostly cloud which a shower or thunderstorm. here is your seven day shore cast and forecast. we are back to locally heavy thunderstorms. here's good news just in time for the weekend, temperatures in the 80's, lower humidity ape lots of sunshine. now here's natasha.

together. it is a wednesday, we're halfway to the weekend and we are looking live at 309 up near fort washington interchange no problems or delays here at all. crew is still working on the turnpike near that fort washington interchange. they should be up and out by 6:00. that 495 construction project will be with us for a little while. the closure between exit two and three and it has become crazy, folks trying to find alternates. but i want to point something out to you. forget there is a river here, okay. now there is 495. look at this little alternate. if you are going down to the delaware beaches, i tried this the other day and i went delay free, i went over commodore barry bridge, down 295 and came back over delaware memorial bridge. no problems at all. i didn't get stuck in any grid lock, any alternate. give that a try. if that works into your plans and vice versa coming back from the shore, maybe on sunday, trying to get up through wilmington, go over delaware memorial, use 295 and
