cbs-3 skies deck. we can barely see buildings behind me because fog is in. watch for low visibility on area roadways and we are watching area have of showers and storms heading our way. i will bring you latest coming up, bob. another crazy day, sort of like yesterday, live downtown philadelphia, the vine street expressway. we will update some construction projects, new one set to start tonight and we will check with mass transit coming up next, natasha and erika, good morning. this is new this morning police think alcohol may have played a role in the crash on roosevelt boulevard earlier this morning. police say a black suv slammed in the pickup truck just after 4:00 a.m. there were no reported injuries, one driver is being evaluated for possible dui. police just filed charges against a mother and her boyfriend, after her little six year-old daughter brought heroin to her first grade class. >> parents are understandably outraged. commodore john barry elementary school in west philadelphia, good morning. >> reporter: mother and her boyfriend air waiting arraignment, right now although their names have in the been released they are facing charge that he is include endangering welfare of the child, recklessly endangering another person and other offenses. in the meantime those first graders will return here to barry elementary school today, yesterday they were check out by doctors, all are expect to be okay and they are okay this morning despite their possible exposure to the drug's heroin. escorted by the fire department with medics on board, 20, first graders on this school bus were taken to children's hospital after a six year-old classmate brought 11 packets of heroin to barry elementary school. >> all of the parents are concerned. the child is seven years old. >> reporter: parents of the students rushed to the hospital dumbfounded by the fact that their children may have been exposed to the drug

which can be deadly in small doses. >> we know one of the packages looks like it was bitten and we have one student saying that the young lady who did bring the substance to school did have have that in her mouth. >> reporter: the young girl was check by doctors and then cleared to leave the hospital as were her classmates. >> apparently she was playing with the packet and showing it off. >> it doesn't make sense to me. it should never have been in the home. >> reporter: meanwhile these narcotics investigators searched the home of the six year-old girl and back at the school the mother of the student declined to comment as she left the building to be interviewed by detective. school district spokesmen maintains letters were sent home and incident was hand old pope eighthly. >> substances taken away from the child. the classroom is evacuated. >> reporter: a search of the girl's home did turn up more drugs. we have learn that the the mother has three other children, and that the department of human services is now investigating. that is latees from west philadelphia, jen bernstein

for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the truck driver charge in the crash that injured tracie minister again is due in court today. kevin roper faces a hearing in new brunswick at 3:00 this afternoon. the exclusive video shows roper's wal-mart truck right there and's ledgely swerved to avoid slow traffic and hit morgan's limousine last sat the day. morgan is in critical but stable condition, two other passengers were seriously injured. comedian james mcnair was kill. well, as kate mentioned earlier more storms are expected today, not welcomed news for folks trying to dry out from the flooding this week. lets look at this video. woman from glassboro gloucester county had to be hell topped dry ground after knee deep water surrounded her car. that is a frightening situation there. the rain also came down hard and fast in bensalem drenching everything in sight and making driving extremely dangerous.

after his father's death. lewis katz and six other died in the private jet crash in boston on may 31st. it leaves philanthropist jerry lenfest as inquirer and daily news soul buyer. bucks county man is back in police custody accused of stabbing an officer and stealing his police cruiser. matthew miller is held on a five million-dollar bail, he went missing from a work release program yesterday. miller was stopped by police officer michael jim kin ski where he stabbed the officer and then took off from the cruiser. >> he went from misdemeanors to attempted homicide on the police officer. luckily that knife did not penetrate officer's bullet-proof vest. miller was taken into custody in philadelphia after a abandoning that police car near ninth and fair dale roads. he faces numerous charges, including attempted murder. new surveillance video released as police investigate

explosion of the soda machine in mayfair. this is a story we first brought you last week. video shows suspect walking to and from the machine. video was taken on thursday night and just before that machine exploded outside a plumbing business onmont cue street. the force of the blast blew out windows in the area and sent debris flying a hundred feet away. we hate to be bearer of bad news so early in the morning but it will be a few months before you can drive i495 bridge in wilmington. dell dot shut down that bridge between 12th street and terminal avenue a week ago because it is tilting. officials say earliest it can re-open is labor day. investigators say pressure from soils next to the bridge damaged the support piers and push them sideways. >> the expertise, the equipment and material to get this bridge reopened are on their way to delaware right now. >> there is a small chance we will to have completely tear down this 400-foot section of the bridge and rebuild a new

welcome back, we are now getting a look at a injury the teen suffered after a shark bite in delaware. this happened in waters off of cape henlopen state park in sussex county. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones has the story. >> reporter: andrew vance has a fish story few can match. 3-foot sandbar shark left a good sized gash in his left arm and 16 year-old swimming off cape henlopen beach when a

shark bit him. >> he felt or noticed something on his left arm, and looked down what he described as a shark was on his left arm. he took his right-hand and kind of beat it, pushed it off and swam away. >> reporter: in this facebook picture you can see his right fingers are cut, a telltale sign, experts say of fending off a shark. >> that is what you would expect from someone pushing away a shark. their skinnies very rough. >> reporter: idea of the shark bite might be unsettling to some. scott newlen has been a shark biologist for 15 years and says san bars sharks are very common in the water, bug by the are not. he says thinks first documented case he is aware of in delaware. >> this shark was not interested in feeding. it looked like an instinct bite. >> reporter: it appears it bit vance4:45 and this was very young as this is season female sharks give birth. >> females come in the base and that basically means they are giving birth to young and
