captioning funded by cbs this is the "cbs morning news" for this friday, june 13th, 2014. good morning. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. former p.o.w. sergeant bowe bergdahl is back in the united states. he arrived in san antonio, texas, early this morning. a reporter from our local affiliate taking that picture you saw that's believed to be the plane that cared bergdahl from germany. cbs news has learned that he still has not reached out to his family. he'll continue with his medical treatment. as bigad shaban reports bowe bergdahl will face a new set of challenges at home. >> reporter: sergeant bowe bergdahl will receive psychological treatment. doctors will help him regaining control over his life, even pushing him to make simple

decisions like what to eat. where he'll also be reunited with his parents. could the son they welcome home be a totally different person? >> absolutely. >> she's never treated bergdahl but has provided therapy for hundreds of servicemembers returning from combat including former prisoners of war. >> i would guess he would probably have a significant post-traumatic stress disorder. smells, sounds, all of those basic senses are very easily activated in a way that can be alarming. >> reporter: bergdahl was freed less than two weeks ago in exchange for the release of five taliban prisoners at guantanamo bay. it caused a political uproar. several soldiers who served with bergdahl say he deserted his post in afghanistan. that could complicate his recovery and bergdahl's transition from captivity needs to be gradual.

>> bringing him home, getting him off the plane and returning him to his family would be too much at the same time. >> reporter: he could spend weeks if not months receiving treatment before returning home to idaho. well, now to iraq. president obama says he is considering all military options except sending in troops. overnight islamic militants continued their push toward the capital. security in baghdad has been increased. susan mcginnis is in washington. good morning. >> anne-marie, group morning. ground troops in iraq is not an option. the white house has made it clear. what's also been made clear is some help will be sent to iraq possibly in the form of air strikes. islamic militants rolled down the streets of mosul. they have driven thousands of civilians from their homes and have vowed to take more cities and towns including baghdad.

the rebel group wants to set up a vast islamic state. isis has take enover a few already. president obama will discuss with the security team of ways to help iraq's government including possible air strikes. >> i don't rule out anything because we do have a stake in making sure that these jihadists are not getting a permanent foothold. >> white house officials are stressing they will not put boots on the ground again in iraq. some republican lawmakers are criticizing the president saying he miscalculated the threat posed by the militants. >> it's not like we haven't seen this problem coming for over a year. we're 100 miles from baghdad and what is the president doing? taking a nap. >> democrats say former president george w. bush is to blame for a misguided treatment of iraq in 2003. amid the escalating tensions,

hundreds of america's contractors are being evacuated from northern iraq. there's no decision yet to evacuate americans from baghdad. >> susan mcginnis in washington, thank you, susan. holly williams is in iraq and she joins us by phone. what is the latest on the ground there, holly? >> reporter: good morning, anne-marie. the islamic militants have continued to make gains. there are reports this morning they control parts of a town 65 miles north of baghdad, the iraqi capital. they've also moved into two towns north of iraq. it's been lightning quick in part because of religious loyalties. they're mostly muslim and the cities they've overrun are mainly sunni. but as they move further south toward baghdad they're going to move into a big shia population.

of course, that threatens to reignite iraq's deadly religious tensions. >> now, you've talked to some of the people who are fleeing the cities already taken by isis. what are they telling you? >> reporter: well, hundreds of thousands have fled but many have come to iraqi kurdistan which is relatively peaceful. but most of the people we have spoken to do not blame the militants and they're not fleeing them. many say they like them. instead they're told they're worried about retribution to the iraqi government. they're afraid they will bomb them if they try to force the militants all right. >> all right. holly williams in iraq. thank you, holly. the crisis in iraq has pushed the price of gas to an eight-month high. it could rice 5 to 10 cents according to analysts. and another day of

potentially damaging weather in the plains. some flooding and hail is a possibility. large hail stones, some the size of baseballs, pummeled abilene, texas, yesterday. they smashed through car windows. some buildings were damaged as well. no one was injured. and the u.s. is struggling to care for tens of thousands of young people who crossed the border illegally. they came to america from central america by themselves. it's described as an urgent humanitarian situation. omar villafranca reports from california where many of the children are being cared for. >> reporter: these could be scenes from any schoolyard in america, children playing, learning and exercising together. while this video was shot in america, the children are not american. they're undocumented immigrants who came here illegally without their parents.

more than 47,000 children traveling by themselves have illegally crossed into the u.s. since october. most have been captured in texas. they're trying to escape crime and poverty in el salvador, guatemala, and honduras. >> it was a very vivid demonstration to me of the problem that we faced. >> reporter: but supporters of tighter rules say deep deportation policies are requiring migrants to jump the border. >> there are no consequences for entering el legillegally into t united states and if that's the case, it will continue. >> reporter: they have issued a 25-page complaint claiming that more than 100 unaccompanied immigrant children have been underfed, even abused in u.s. custody. hundreds of arrested children have been staying at a facility in nogales, sleeping under foil blankets in makeshift beds.

birthday, former president george h.w. bush went skydiving. the 41st president surprised many in kennebunkport, maine, thursday by continuing a tradition with a parachute jump from the helicopter. the man who made the tandem jump with him said bush was smiling like a 10-year-old at christmas. well, facebook knows a lot about you and the other people using the social media site. that private information helps the company sell ads targeted at you, but now jericka duncan reports that facebook will let users see the control rather than the ads that they see. >> reporter: every time you log onto facebook the social site is tracking your habits to know what you might be interested in. the process is claimed in a new company video. >> when you like pages and posts, click on stories and n s news, this determines whether or not the ad will be relevant to you. >> reporter: it's not only logging your habits on their

on the "cbs moneywatch," ford's fuel rating fix and why electric carmaker tesla is giving away its technology secrets. jill wagner is at the new york stock exchange with that and more. good morning, jill. >> good morning, anne-marie. asian markets finished higher. tokyo's nikkei rose 1%. hong kong's hang seng gained half a percent. here on wall street investors are keeping an eye on rising oil prices as violence surges in iraq. the nasdaq dropped 34, and the s&p fell 13. ford overstated gas mileage on six vehicles. the automaker is lowering its fuel economy estimates for the siesta subcompact, hybrid versions and the hybrid. ford will compensate buyers with

$125. tesla is giving away the company's patent portfolio. tesla has more than 200 patents covering batteries and other key features in vehicles. the idea is to encourage other automakers who make electric cars and prance convince more people to buy them. and american teenagers are mostly behaving better these days. the cdc report on high school reports found that high school students are drinking less, smoking less, and fighting less, but 41% admit to e-mailing and texting behind the wheel and spending a lot of time on computers and video games. anne-marie? >> and 100% of parents say they're cleaning their rooms less. not a real statistic but a good guess, i guess. actor harrison ford is recovering from an ankle injury on the set of the new star wars movie. the 71-year-old who plays hans solo was reportedly crushed by the door of the spash shigs the millennium falcon.
