talks failed. out to jan live at philadelphia's overbrook station, jan? >> todd, the only trains that have been coming through this section have been amtrak trains this evening. otherwise, the rales have been silent, not even other people in the area here tonight, even if the president does stands in to ends the strike temporarily, septa says when the workers return, it will take eight to ten hours to return the service to normal. so the regional rail lines will not open at least tonight. >> rail workers not manning the trains, but pact g at many stations instead, 12:0; septa's regional rail lines screeched to a halt, after more than 400 workers and two unions walked offer the job. >> i have not had any contact with septa today to schedule any additional meetings. >> but the strike may be short lived. pennsylvania governor tom corbett has asked president owe bam a to intervene, requesting presidential emergency board mediate the dispute between the transit

hospital after being struck by a car in camden. the incident happened on the 1600 block of pine street, at around 1:00 this afternoon authorities say the driver of the car that struck the child remained at the scene, no word on the child's condition. bright beautiful skies out there today, more in store for us. across philadelphia, and areas to the south and new jersey, and in delaware. so it will be somewhat of a keel night. looking at 50's, returning to the forecast, so you can open up the windows, enjoy the fresh air. few clouds moving on through right now on storm scan3, they'll dissipate as we lose the heating from the day. now the fathers day forecast, looks great, through the morning, very comfortable, sunshine in the 60s, will make it back to the low 80s, by the afternoon hours. but the heat and humidity do make return in the seven day forecast, we will break it down for now few more minutes, todd? >> justin, looking forward to t the spca says they've busted up a major cockfighting ring in kensington. the raid happened 2900 block of e street this morning. authorities say a group of men was surrounding a ring and watching roosters fight when they broke into the home. they escaped through back door, homeowner though was arrested. eighteen roosters were confiscated. >> the fighting birds, they will be held as evidence, and until this goes to court. and typically it is hard to

rehabilitate a fighting birds, usually they're euthanized. >> home owner is facing animal cruelty charges tonight. lawmakers discussing the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana in pennsylvania at the university of pennsylvania today, talked about how tax revenues, and crime, could go up, if marijuana is league a.m.ized. philadelphia city council is considering legislation, to lessen the penalties for marijuana possession. >> new information in the crisis in iraq. battleships are moving to the persian gulf in case the us decides to take military action against islamic militants who are threatening to capture more cities. cbs news correspondent wendy gillette has the detail. >> the aircraft carrier uss george h.w. bush and two other warships are making their way to the persian gulf, the north arabian sea.

us defense secretary chuck hagel ordered the move to give president obama additional military options, as islamic extremists continue to seize towns and territory in northwestern iraq. baghdad appears to be the next target for the sunni militants, who are from an al quaida splinter group called the islamic state of iraq and the laugh and the. on saturday, thousands of men answered a call from iraq's most influencial shiite letter took pick up arms and defends the country against the insurgentsy. but the militants momentum seem to slow as the weekend began. still, baghdad is under tight security with troops, manning checkpoints. if newspapers warn residents after humanitarian crisis if the insurgents are not brought under control. >> nothing but political solution to. >> this obviously there needs to be security operations, to deal with the terrorist threat, that's inevitable. >> as the us decides if it will provide any military assistance, cbs news has learned that iran has sent

massachusetts mother is demanding happen old he political gentlemen from jet blue, refused to let her three year old use the bathroom. on a flight this week from new york to boston, the plane was delayed on the tarmac for about 30 minutes, that's when her daughter needed to use the bathroom. the flight attendants demanded they stay in their seats. >> wasn't about bad customer

service, at that point, just about bad human decency, she was sitting in a pool of urine, i couldn't do anything about it. and as a mom, it just broke my heart. the pilot announced he was taking back to the gate, but offer duty pilot sitting in front of devereaux convinced the crew to let her stay. high school artist is heading to an ivy league school this fall with a big scholarship. expect college to be difficult, but this young man has already put in a lot of hard work, to overcome violence in his life. cbs news correspondent brendan scott has the story. >> these are the hauntingly hopeful faces of inner city new orleans. and this is leonard, the 18 year old high school artist, who painted them. >> personally, i feel he's conveyed the message. >> this 3d painting was featured recently in the new orleans contemporary art center, shows a gun on the ground, and young man turning his back.

>> this this city, most of the homicides, and shootings, and stuff like that, are because of the young african-american males. so i just wanted to do sort of turning back on that. >> the piece is personal to leonard. he grew up in the project everyone of new orleans infamous high-crime, low-income neighborhoods. he was born when his mom was just 13. his dad was a drug dealer, murdered in broad daylight. >> could you have fallen into that same trap in terms of violence? >> i think so. i think i was really luck. >> i as a kid, he loved art. and his mom encouraged him to draw. keeping him away from the drugs and violence. >> teachers recognized leonard's talent and pushed him to apply for college. not only did he get accepted to yale, he earned a prestigious scholarship to help cover the cost. >> what do you think of your accomplishments?

>> looking good again tomorrow. we heat things up for next week. let's enjoy fathers day weekends, a lot of happy people at the shore right now, and in ocean sit, new jersey, taking advantage of the pleasant conditions, dry weather, some sunshine, nice breeze, temperatures in the 70s right along the coastline. now, something about the weaken here over the past couple of weeks, it's been great. we go to two weeks ago, temperatures were in the upper 70s, right near average, with low humidity, last week, same deal, little bit warmer than average, but still very comfortable, low humidity. here we go again this weekend. 76 degrees with a high today, tomorrow should break to the low 80s, still the humidity level is on the low side. storm scan3, just showing batch of clouds moving in from the north, eventually will dissipate, as we lose the heating from the sun, clear skies to the west, nice area of high pressure, will dominate our weather through the rest of the weekends, into next week, keeping things nice and dry. look at that. for the middle of june, low 70s? tough to beat. seventy-two in philadelphia, and millville, 73 atlantic

city, 56 degrees already in mount pocono. so that's that. dry canadian aromas, continues to build in, keep the windows open, save some money on the electric bill, shut the air-conditioning off. seventy-one right now in pittsburgh, so you see, no big warmth to the west. dew point temperatures, which tells us how much humidity the moisture is in the air, much lower. we were at 70, just 24 hours ago, now, we're in the 40's, that just indicates how dry this air mass s and that's compliments of the winds. coming out of the northwest, and notice the arrows, northwesterly breeze, that keeps us nice and comfortable, temperatures below average, now, tomorrow we start to break back to the low 80s, near average, there is the area of high pressure, starts to build off shore for monday, now we see little bit more after south winds, the heat and humidity starts to return, later monday into tuesday, and looks like we will make a run at 90 degrees, this will be the first time we hit 09 for many spots this year, across the delaware valley, at humidity also rises. nothing happening for fathers

day, it looks great. enjoy the day. plenty of sunshine, comfortable temperatures, same deal on monday, maybe few clouds, start to build in, tuesday, you'll feel the difference, with the heat and humidity, and there is a slight chance of an isolated shower, thunderstorm, coming in later during the day, on tuesday. but, back to typical summer like weather. temperatures tomorrow, after waking up in the 50's, some spots, will rebounds nicely, into the upper 70s, to lower 80s, and really starts to warm up on monday, inland spots, well into the mid to even upper 80s, so the forecast overnight, nice, comfortable skies mostly clear, 58%, center city, so you know the suburbs cooler than. that will warmer day sunday, mostly sunny skies, we get up to 83 degrees, for high temperatures, still that winds out of the northwest, keeps the humidity levels low. another great looking day at the jersey shore, delaware beaches. air temperatures in the upper 60s, water temperature right now 68 degrees. the a lot of sunshine tomorrow. uv index very high, nine out of ten, so the burn time about

ten, 15 minutes, without any sun block on. so make sure you do have the sun block around. extended forecast, 83 with sunshine, for sunday, 88, monday, mostly sunny, then we hit string of 90s, looks like tuesday, wednesday could be scattered showers, thunderstorms, coming in later on wednesday, thursday, and friday, so again storm chances that doesn't look like we will see anything like last week. and then by next weekend looks like we clear things back to the mid 80s, temperatures down at the shore, actually start to warm up. looks like we will make a run at 08-degree high temperatures, again, ocean water temperature still chilly, upper 60s to around 706789 but nice weekends, then we heat things up again for next week. >> thanks, justin. now we join now with a look at sports. rob. >> big day today. jimmy rollins, phillies all time hits record, this afternoon, the phillies holes dollars the cubs, in one of the series yesterday, went to the cubs, phillies look to go get even. but jimmy was the big storiment we pick this up, runners in, ben revere

it is flag day in philadelphia, a star spangled celebration, independence mall hosed the stripes and stars festival this afternoon. reenactors joined current and former soldiers for a march from the national constitution center to independence hall. our very own jessica dean mc the event. congress designated the flag as our national symbol 237 years ago. today is also the 239th birthday of the us army. you can now see what it is like inside your head. the franklin institute's new your brain exhibit opened to the public today. it takes visitors through 70 inter-active experiences as they navigate through the senses. your brain is just one of the four exhibits housed in a new wing at the franklin institute. we'll be right back.
