fathers day to you. looking at just great weather condition. it is beautiful out there this morning, look at the blue skies, and the temperatures are cool, too. 60 degrees, the breeze yesterday made yesterday just spectacular. i think we'll do it again today. but it will be slightly warmer. let me show you on storm scan3, right now, we have nothing to deal with, thank goodness, snow is perfect day that you can get outside, do whatever you want, 06 degrees in philadelphia, that's out at the airport, and in center city, 56 trenton, 58 degrees in wilmington, we have 53 in the poconos, 63 down in wildwood this morning. so, very comfortable temperatures, look at this day, veggies on the grill, at noon, and then 3:00 p.m. it is hammock weather. so temperatures will be getting into the lower 80s little warmer than it was yesterday, so expect to find these temperatures instead of in the middle 70s as we had yesterday, with 30-mile per hour winds, we will find them today five, 10-mile per hour winds, temperatures get to go about the 82, 83 degrees mark.

so beautiful weather coming up. we'll see for how long there is a big warm upcoming on the seven day forecast, just ahead, nicole? >> carol, thank you. a developing story for this morning. septa regional rail commuters are breathing sigh of relief. president obama has stepped in to make sure the trains keep on running. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry live at the fernrock transportation center, where ride remembers back on the railings, syma? >> well, nicole, there was a septa regional rail line strike, but that strike was short-lived. we do have video whatever it looked like when electrical workers and engineers formed a picket line. now, the strike started saturday at midnight, but president obama signed executive order last night, a point ago emergency board to mediate the labor dispute and order earth the union back to work. had the president not gotten involved all 13 regional rail lines would have come to a halt, now there is strike was the first in 31 years, the

last septa regional rail strike was in 1983. that lasted more than three months. now, more than four engineers and electrical work verse had a long running labor dispute, will be forced to go back to the table, that of course will be mediated by the president's emergency board, and we have reaction from union reps. >> we will certainly comply with the mandates of the law. and we will be given the opportunity to present our best case to the presidential emergency board, with respect to the economic issue in dispute. >> reporter: and now the workers are also compelled to return to work for the next eight months, which means, they cannot strike again until february. we're live in north philly. syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> syma, thank you, you can also find the septa customer service telephone number

cbsphilly.com. keep it right here on "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage. search continues for one of the suspect involved in a violent gun store robbery. the robbery took place outside the delaware valley sports center in bustleton thursday night. sixty-seven year old man was shot and seven guns stolen during that robbery. female suspect is surrendered to police, but male suspect remains on the loose. a cbs-3 exclusive this morning. we're hearing from an off-duty paramedic who jumped into action after that shooting thursday night. he saved that victim's life. >> came outside, the gentleman was bleeding, noticed where he was bleeding from it, blown an artery, so the only way to stop it was to place my finger over the wounds to stop the bleeding. >> sixty-seven year old man remains in the hospital, list in the critical condition. told us he did what any other paramedic would have done. well, two people are in the hospital after a serious car crash during a test drive in montgomery county.

the driver was test driving a car with the car's owner in the passenger seat. the car crashed into treason curb near long view and keen road in limerick just after 6:00 last night. driver returned to pottstown hospital. the passenger, to paoli hospital. four year old boy is rushed to cooper university hospital after he is struck by a car in camden. it happened on the 1600 block of pine street around 1:00 saturday afternoon. investigators say the driver of the car that hit the boy remained at the scene. there is no update on that child's condition this morning. well, the phils have had their ups and their downs so far this season, but yesterday, we saw history made at citizens bank park. take a look. >> now the three ball one strike pitch to rollins. line drive toward right field. there it is. jimmy rollins is now the franchise leader in base hits. >> yep, there it is, that's base hit number 2,235 in jimmy rollins' career.

are threatening to capture even more cities. >> the aircraft carriers, uss george h.w. bush, and two other warships, are making their way to the persian gulf in the north arabian sea. chuck hagel ordered the move to give president obama additional military options, as islamic extremists continue to seize towns and territories in northwestern iraq. baghdad, appears, to be the next target for the sunni militants, who are from al quaida splinter group called the islamic state of iraq and the lavant. saturday thousands of men answered call from iraq's most influencial shiite cleric to pick up arms and defends the country against the insurgent. slow as the weekend began. still baghdad is under tight security with troops manning checkpoints. newspapers warn residents of an impending humanitarian crisis, if the insurgents are not brought under control. >> there is nothing but the political solution to this. obviously there needs to be

security operations to deal with the terrorist threat, that's inevitable. >> as the us decides if it will provide any military assistance, cbs news has learned that iran has sent troops to iraq to help restore stability in the region. wendy gillette for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". meantime, white house is praying the people of afghanistan, with mostly peaceful election, officials estimate the turn out about 60%. the candidates are a former foreign minister, and an ex world bank official. president obama calls the election a major step forward on the country's democratic path. and, new this morning, the us army appoints two star general to investigate how and why sergeant bowe bergdahl left his base in afghanistan resulting in his capture by the taliban. bergdahl returned to the u.s. last week after spending five years in captivity. the general's identity has not been released. the investigation is expected

to start next week. it is unclear if bergdahl will undergo formal questioning. on the cbs-3 health watch this morning, you can now see what's going on inside your head. scary thought, i know. at the franklin institute new your brain exhibit open to the public this weekend. breakfast table, all part of the cereal city festival. where else? battle creek, michigan. post, kellog, conago a, free cereal, pop tarts, milk and juice. more than 70,000 bowls of cereal were enjoyed. a lot of cereal. leftovers of course donate today a local food bank. very nice. 6:15, right now, yesterday was beautiful day, carol. so hopefully today is much like the same? >> you know, i think it might -- i don't know, it will be close. they're both perfect. so it is judging apples and apples. one have little more shine if you like a particular slightly warmer, less windy, that's today. if you liked that breeze yesterday, that was lovely, and cooling, and great. and today perfect. people already out on the board walk. it is fathers day, but this is really just a stellar day for anyone to just enjoy themselves, get outside, take a look outside if you don't feel like err err --

exercising, and gorgeous, too, going up to the reading area, 06 degrees, the sun up there, that is cannot miss destination no matter when you go. you have absolutely terrific weather. fifty-six in trenton right now, we have 58 degrees down in wilmington area, 57 in millville, 53 allentown, so everybody pretty close to where everybody else is. temperature wise, and storm scan3, we have almost identical sky conditions, all over the area. meaning, we're not finding any clouds at all. so expect to find a dry, gorgeous day today. with temperatures getting into the 80s. now, yesterday we stopped at 76 degrees in philadelphia. today we should be 82, 83 degrees, high pressure is here, and because it is closer to us, it is not going to be generating the winds that we saw yesterday. it does pull away, though, and when it moves away, we start to get the air coming up from the south. and that's going to be boosting our temperatures, and the humidity. so tomorrow, expect to find the temperatures getting into the upper 80s, by the time we get to tuesday, we can be

finding these temperatures getting around 90 degrees, and we might keep that going for a day or two. do we see a shower or thunderstorm chance? yes, few fronts, et cetera, lurking out there, and that's why we might encounter not today, and virtually all of tomorrow, should be dry. but we still have those shower and thunderstorm chances always. so now we're already into monday. we ran right through the day, nothing was happening, and monday looks pretty similar, until we start to pick up a chance of a shower from a system that's off to the west. now, does it make it all the way through the philadelphia area? this computer model, says, no, just sort of sees philly and says, you know what, no, let's just forget t leave them alone. we'll see whether that actually comes to pass by the time we get to that monday night, tuesday time period. just chances of couple of these showers and thunderstorms, starting later on monday, and tuesday, and wednesday. comfort index? our current dew point is 47. we expect to find it about 50 degrees today. what does that mean?

it means that we're not in the insufferable range. we're down in the awesome range. since it is even cooler than that this morning, with dew point, we're extremely awesome this morning. soap, let's enjoy all of this, because we end up with dew points that get into the six 60s, the middle 60s, we start to get steamy around here, just in time for summer to start. next saturday. oh, boy, already. eighty-three -- and it can slow down, season can slow down. eighty-three, shore 80, poconos 78 degrees, every location sunshine, every location absolutely ideal. tonight, 60 degrees, another cool nice night. but that really starts to change on the eyewitness weather seven day forecast. notice, that monday is 88 degrees, more humid, tuesday, and wednesday, we are around 90 degrees with the chance after shower or thunderstorm, same deal on thursday, maybe on friday, and we'll see at this point saturday's dry at 83, nick snow. >> thanks, carol. well, new orleans high school artsies heading to an ivy

league school this fall with big scholarship. he expects college to be challenging of course. but cbs news correspondent brandon scott tells us there is young man has already put in a lot of hard work to overcome challenges. >> these are the hauntingly hopeful faces of inner city new orleans. and this is leonard the 18 year old high school artist who painted them. >> personally, i feel it conveys a messing. >> this 3d painting was featured recently in the new orleans contemporary art center it, shows a gun on the grounds, and young man turning his back. >> in this city most of the homicides and shootings and stuff like that are because of young african-american males. so i just wanted to do a piece that was sort of turning your back on that. >> the piece is personal to leonard. he grew up in the projects of one of new orleans infamous high crime, low income neighborhoods. he was born when his mom was

just 13. his dad was a drug dealer murdered in broad daylight. >> could you have fall mean that same trap in terms of violence? >> i think so. i think i was really lucky. >> as a kid, he loved art. and his mom encouraged him to draw, keeping him away from the drugs and violence. teachers recognized leonard's talent and pushed him to apply for college. not only did he get accepted to yale, he earned a prestigious scholarship to help cover the costs. >> what do you think of your accomplishments? do you ever sit back and take it all in? >> when i do, i start freaking out a little bit. i specially have to go to school annex sell, so it will be difficult to yale university. >> leonard's paint brush helped change the course of his life. and he'll use it to create the next chapter. brandon scott, cbs news, new orleans.

and that septa strike. today is sunday, june 15, good morning, thanks so much for joining us, happy fathers day to you out there. i'm nicole brewer, and it is 6:30, of course, if you're having plans with dad today, i think you're in luck, right, carol? good weather day? >> even if you're not having plans with dad, you are in great luck. the weather is just perfect today, nicole, everybody. i know you enjoyed the day yesterday, temperatures middle seven's, saw decent breeze out of the northwest. >> sun was out, perfect we do it again today. look how nice it looks center city, blue skies everywhere, gorgeous at the shore, can you not miss with these forecast. look at the sun, and in atlantic city, now go out to the ardmore area, lower merion high school. fifty, just turned up to 57, 58 degrees. so, very cool start to the morning. it is nice you can just keep the windows open, hear all of the birds calling to one another. storm scan3, nothing going on, we have dry conditions, we expect to keep it dry all day,

and we expect to keep it virtually cloud-free, as well. our temperatures, starting to the north, 53 until the poconos, allentown, 60 in philadelphia out at the airport. by the time you make it to millville you have dropped couple of degrees, 57 degrees, and then in wildwood, 63 degrees this morning. so nice start, look at the day, 75 degrees, by the time we hit the noon hour. by 3:00 p.m., 82 degrees. everybody will be in the hammock, dad will be mowing the lawn. oh, it is supposed to be the other way around. never minds. so, future weather. now, we put this in motion. notice no clouds. we have just no rain expected either. this is dry day, dry right through tomorrow morning. one thing you will notice tomorrow, humidity levels will come up. how about these weekend? two weeks ago, saturday, sunday, we temperatures not even 80 degrees, but full sunshine, last week, we were at 84, both days, gorgeous day, and this week we've got just terrific weather coming

telephone number on our website cbsphilly.com. keep it right here on "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage of the septa strike, narrowly averted. >> spca says they've busted up major cockfighting ring in kensington. raid happened on the 2900 block every e street yesterday morning. authorities say a group of men was surrounding a ring and watching roosters fight when they broke into the home. they escaped through back door. that homeowner was arrested and 18 roosters confiscated. the fighting birds, they will be held as evidence, and until this goes to court. and typically it is hard to rehabilitate a fighting bird. usually they're euthanized. >> home owner is facing animal cruelty charges. area lawmakers discuss the pros and cons of legalizing marijuana here in pennsylvania. state senator anthony williams hosed a forum on the issue at the university of pennsylvania saturday. the panel talk about how tax revenues and crime could go up if marijuana is legalized.

philadelphia city councils sill considering legislation to lessen the penalties for marijuana possession. well, today is an official day of mourning in ukraine after pro russian rebels shoot down the ukrainian government transport plane. this is video of that crash which killed 49 people. cbs news correspondent omar villa franco reports the worse loss of live in single attack since the fighting began there four months ago. >> a fireball lights the horizon as pro russian rush opens shot the ukrainian military jet out of the sky early saturday. all 40 paratroopers and nine crew members were killed. a traffic camera appears to have captured the moment it happened in the eastern second shop of the country near the russian border. ukraine's president vows those behind the attack will be punished. ukrainian defense officials say, pro russian separatists use anti-aircraft missile and heavy machine guns as the plane was trying to land and then battle city, after the crash, rebels combed through

wreckage, searching for weapons and ammunition. the incident set off protests outside the russian embassy in the capitol of kiev. demonstrators hurled eggs and overturned diplomats cars. >> the shoot-down comes only a week after president petro spoke about plan for peace in his inaugural address, reopened talks with moscow. now called emergency meeting with the security chief. washington is rejecting russia's repeated denial that it is not arming the rebels with tanks and other military equipment. rebels insist, they stole the tanks from ukrainian stockpiles. us secretary of state, john kerrey, says the us and its partners will raise the cost for russia if it doesn't stop the flow of weapons across the border. omar villa franco, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". a massachusetts mother is demanding an apology judge fret blue. claims flight attendant refused to let her three year old use the bathroom. jennifer debra was on flight last week from new york to boston.

now, the plane was delayed on the tarmac for about 30 minutes. she said that's when her daughter said she needed to use the bathroom. well the flight attendant demanded they stay in their seats. >> it wasn't about bad customer service at that point. it was just about bad human decency. she was sitting in a pool of urine, i couldn't do anything about it, as a mom it just broke my heart. >> after that incident, the pilot announced he was take that plane back to the gate for an unruly passenger. but an off-duty pilot sitting in front of dove row convinced the crew to let her stay. wow. meantime, the faa is investigating a potentially dangerous prank in air traffic controller reportedly played on pilot. delta flight 630 from japan was about to land at hearts field jackson international airport in at lan tax controller told the pilot to abort the landing. officials say the controller immediately said he was joking, but the pilot already made the turn and couldn't land. the plane landed safely, though, on the

second approaching. you do not mess with that. that's for sure. happening today, it is the opening ceremonies for the special olympics usa games. it is all happening today in new jersey. crews of volunteers have been getting venues ready across mercer county. about 3500 athletes with intellectual disabilities will participate. the opening is her moan list feature cold ren lighting, entertainment, parade of athletes. today at 4:00 at the prudential center in newark of the best of luck to the athletes. well, speaking of athletes, special olypians from all across the country and hundreds of volunteers are headed for the games. the pennsylvania special olympics team held a party in south philadelphia before leaving for the competition. mayor nutter joined the fun there. see that. wawa presented the athletes with a check for more than $300,000 all raised by in-store donations. once again, we want to wish a good luck to all of the athletes participating in the special olympics this week. it is such a special event. such a great organization. such great people.

trenton, five in wilmington, 53 in the poconos. 63 degrees down in wildwood. this is what's coming, though, i've been talking about the warmth we're getting on the seven day forecast air will start coming up from the south. at this point in the morning, 72 in atlanta, so, expect to find this warmer air starting to get transport in the our area, and it is not just warm, it is a lot more humid than what we're dealing with right now. so, storm scan3, you have to go a long way long way, maybe to the west of chipping chick. system out there watching for not today or really tomorrow but as we get into maybe the tuesday and wednesday and thursday time period, just chances of picking up a shower or a thunderstorm. but for today, if you are traveling around, good idea, high upper 80s, will keep the wind from blowing as hard as they were yesterday. they gust today 30 miles per hour yesterday. kept it cool, didn't it?

they all came out of the northwest, then as we get to monday, we will be way up into the 80s, probably 88, 89 degrees tomorrow, the humidity will also start to come up, and then we start to watch for temperatures getting into the 90s, maybe just 90 degrees, on tuesday, and we say just 90. but by wednesday, could be 91, 92 degrees, even. so, let's check this out. this is our future weather, doesn't even need to be stopped, because there is no reason to. it just the sky conditions will look almost identical. the sun will disappear for a time. but otherwise, everything looks the same today, tonight, with clear skies. and then, tomorrow, we have some very nice weather starting as well. this is the front, now, does it actually make through here? does it just go to the north and west of the poconos? this computer model wants to wash it out. this computer model has been wrong. so, just know, that there will be a front in the area. so there is a chance, later on monday, and monday night, that you pick up shower or thunderstorm. and those chances still exist on tuesday. not every place, but, some
