100 miles northwest of omaha was hardest hit. >> reporter: when you have nothing left, finding anything will do. >> yeah, i seen it. it come down over here. >> reporter: tommy and his family are sifting through what's left. this is his son's pilger home. his outside of town is gone, too. >> i mean, we lost everything. i lost all my vehicles. i don't have a vehicle. >> reporter: so much destruction, so much pain here from at least two twisters that tore through stanton county. at least half the town of pilger, nebraska, is now gone. likely more. homes of 300 nebraskaens all but wiped off the word landscape. >> i've never been through this before. it was just an experience. and i don't want to go through it again.

>> reporter: mind marilyn anderson's tears there is happiness for ride aring out the storm in the basement corner. all of them will be grateful for. >> i did a lot of a flag that little corner. yeah. >> reporter: her home above her intact. the neighbor who rode out the storm with her not so lucky. his is gone. all of pilger is without power. along with pilger being evacuated. >> that was kntv's kelly bartlett reporting. several of the injured are hospitalized with critical injuries. this morning, folks in bakersfield, california, are beginning to return to their homes. evacuation orders were lifted when homes 50% contained. miles from where the sequoia national forest was destroyed.

and a fire burned 17 square miles and continues to burn out of control this morning. hundreds of people living in navajo communities were being forced to evacuate. the fast move fire is drawn by fires. president obama is expected to make a decision supporting military eye day. to top the militants known as the islamic state of iraq in syria. this is the area that militants hold. susan mcginnis is in washington. good morning. susan. >> good morning, anne-marie. as the white house considers its next move in iraq, it is sending hundreds of u.s. troops there. they are combat ready. but the president insists they are going there simply to protect american personnel and the embassy in baghdad. and not to engage in direct fighting. >> reporter: president obama is

likely be asked about the latest gm recall. gm has issued 44 recalls this year involving 20 million vehicles worldwide. bigad shaban has the details. >> reporter: the latest recall is of the year. gm has to change the keys for 3.1 million cars in the u.s. the company says the keys could bump the ignition switch in cars, inadvertently shutting them off. related switch problems forced gm to recall these 3.26 million cars in february. 13 deaths and more than 50 crashes have been linked to the earlier recalls. the newest recall affects keys for the buick lacrosse. chevy impala, cadillac deville and monte carlo. gm says changing the design will prevent problems without making repairs to the cars.
