good morning, today is thursday, june 19th i'm erika von tiehl. i'm natasha brown. ukee is off today. here are stories we are following for you. thunder pounding rain and flashes of lightening, all throughout our area overnight. "eyewitness news" in university city overnight where we caught lots of folks running for cover. and this is what it looks like on storm scan three the tail of the storms there, still making its way throughout the region but that thunder and lightening woke me up, you. >> definitely. what is going on here. >> it moved through quickly. >> it did move through quickly. >> right on cue, we go on the air and storms are basically done at this point. mother nature's alarm clock, right.

>> yes, she's waking everybody up. time to go. my alarm was going off at the the time i saw flashes of lightening, so it was fine for me. i get up way earlier then average bear. lets go start off. i want to show you what is going on here in atlantic city. we did see showers and storms rumbling through but things are pretty quiet right now. lets go to storm scan three. we have been showing you the stormy weather that rumbled in here. i want to take you back in time and show you if i can what happened here in the last six hours. these storms were nasty if you didn't check your your day app and lot the at radar. the in the last six hours let's get back in time here. do you see the lightening starting to rumble through i-95 corridor. look at all that. so many strikes. thankfully at this point most of the strikes are well out to sea. we are clearing things out at least with this particular round of stormy weather, but we still don't see our cold front cross, as we go through

future weather there will be activity that we will have to track here throughout the course of the day but maybely by tonight it is clearing out. we will start to see a much more comfortable air mass take effect. temperatures that are still in the 07's in many locations start to get dropped back, it is already going to be a cooler day, expect daytime high to hit 85 at bows which is more seasonable then the heat eve been keeping with for the the the last two days. good morning, 4:32. thunder came through my house at half an hour before the alarm was supposed to go off. it is like that half an hour, i can't get back, what if i do go back and alarm doesn't go with it and is what on my to do list today. a live look at i-95. all of the roads are wet. i think light show is over as far as lightening as katie showed us on storm scan three. roads are wet. look out in the construction zones especially here where they push the lanes over to the right on the northbound side. the the the schuylkill expressway looking good this

morning. no problems or delays but you can see roads are damp and we will have a puddle or two to jump over in the neighborhood as we head out front door. no problems out of west chester looking good in royersford, all of the bridges had speed restrictions until just a few moments ago. we are back to normal on the bennie, whitman and commodore barry. we will have that closure down here on 495. septa had a rough go late yesterday, with the regional rails, and everything, we will reset the clock and start the morning rush hour, with no delays. erika, back over to you. police are looking for three men on the run who kidnaped ape 15 year-old boy in northeast philadelphia and then robbed his family. >> "eyewitness news" reporter jen bernstein is live at police headquarters with more on that teen's terrifying ordeal, jen. >> reporter: that boy is home with his parents this morning. he was unharm but police are still searching for for those three suspects who kidnaped the 15 year-old and then robbed, tied up his parents

inside of their home. this happened in somerton. police taped off the home as they collect evidence yesterday, the boy's stepfather and mother were home expecting the teen. they heard a knock. mother answered it and was confronted by two armed men who said they kidnaped her son. one of the suspects used his cell phone and made the young man speak to his parents. we did speak to his stepfather yesterday and here's what he had to say. >> there were two outside the house, one waiting inside with my son. my son called us from the guy's phone and said give up everything. give them everything, money, jewelry, whatever you have got. >> reporter: the parents were tied up, and those suspects searched the home. they did then leave with $30,000, according to the family, jewelry, as well as the home security system. they jumped in the car with the 15 year-old still there and sped off. he was later dropped at 23rd and fairmount and was able to go to the gas station and call for help. again, if you have any

information, you are asked to call the police and we will have more coming up at 5:00. that is latest outside police headquarters, jen bernstein for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". new this morning ab overnight shooting in north philadelphia leaves a 23 year-old man in the hospital. "eyewitness news" in the 3300 block of west cumberland street where police say that victim was shot four times in the arm and face, and he is currently in stable condition, police hoped cameras from the nearby business can help them find those responsible. police are looking for two suspects after a deadly shooting in southwest philadelphia a 31 year-old man was shot execution style on the 1900 block of south 60th street last night, investigators say the suspects fled in the dark colored suv. happening today philadelphia city council will vote on a proposed ordinance to reduce penalties for possession of marijuana. members will vote on allowing city police officers to simply issue a ticket with the 25-dollar fine for possession

of the ounce of marijuana or less. that would make it a civil penalty and not criminal. the councilman jim kenny who authored that bill said it can save the city millions of dollars a year. also happening today trial will begin for so-called swiss cheese pervert, christopher paying pagan owe is charged with stalking, harassment and opened lewdness for harassing four different woman. he is accused of offering pay woman to put swiss cheese on his private parts and perform sexual acts. he was arrested back in january. also crews are working around the clock trying to fix damaged interstate 495 bridge in wilmington delaware. federal highway administration confirms that a 50,000-ton dirt pile next to the bridge displaced soil underneath the the support columns, causing them to tilt. the the owner of the dirt piles declined to comment and now more traffic issues are on the horizon as thousands make their way to the fire fly music festival in dover.

some drivers say they just can't seem to catch a break. >> last friday it took meehan hour and a half to do a 25 minute commute. >> i got the to do things at alternate times to avoid being stuck in it. >> i need a helicopter. >> bridge construction is estimated to wrap up sometime about the end of the summer. expect more volume on alternate roadways, the fire fly festival opens up tonight and runs through sunday. a big construction project is also continuing to cause delays on i-95, in philadelphia. penndot is rebuilding and expanding roadway between girard and allegheny. crews have shifted lanes of traffic on the northbound side, drivers should be on the look out for new lane markings on the road. a similar lane shift in the southbound lanes is scheduled next monday. philadelphia's district attorney is reviving an investigation into several state lawmakers suspect of accepting illegal pay offs. a grand jury will look in the allegations made against

democratic state representatives ron waters, vanessa brown, michelle brownly and louise williams bishop and former traffic judge, thomas tynes. last march pennsylvania's attorney general kathleen kane, also a democrat, dropped the case, claim it was fraud but d.a. seth williams says the evidence is convincing. >> i won't allow you this case just to disappear. there has to be accountability. i would not be standing before you today if i thought there was a reason not to put this before a grand jury none of the five faces any criminal charges right now. d.a. revealed that the grand jury may be looking at others. a teenager charged in the knock out attack on a homeless man in upper darby township is held on hundred thousand dollars bail. the trent epps and three others, video taped the attack in the aronimink trolley station last wednesday. epps surrendered yesterday, and is charged with assault.

in the center of the camera lens there starting to dry out. we are again just left with damp roads at this point and not just here in the ben franklin bridge but every where else has since cleared out. we are still stuck with clouds keeping temperatures warm. we will go next, to storm scan three and look with the cloud cover still in place, it is still damp and muggy, the bulk of these storms basically are gone. ocean monmouth county on the border there still dealing with left over rain showers and sussex but beer basically out of the woods with this first round. you can see that edge still pushing out to sea at this point with clouds left over and that is it. now there is relief on the way. here's your cold front crossing today. brings in a couple showers or storms. shouldn't be anything severe at this point. then relief comes. later tonight we are clearing out, cooling down and by tomorrow it is definitely sunny. won't be anywhere near as hot. still warm. still getaway without a jacket

but it will be a much more seasonal mid 80-degree high for us out there looking forward to the weekend. we have been promising you this stretch of perfect weather is going to be winding down but it is not a wash out. there is low pressure that develops on the tail even of the front that will lift back in bring in a couple showers, a thunderstorm but nothing widespread, nothing necessarily severe and nothing that will leave you with a wash out. you can get your outdoor plans in but just not as gorgeous and perfect. 73 degrees at philly international. sixty-nine at trenton. your seven day forecast keeps us in the 80's for a long hall here. cooler in comparison. sunday really does have the best shot to stay dry but both friday and machine a little sandwich there bringing in very pleasant weather, guys, back over to you. we have some breaking news this is just in lots of reports of lightening strikes around the area local three right now is live in chalfont bucks county where lightening struck a house on the 200 block of summer ridge circle.

not much damage but we are told fire fighters were called to put a fire out at this home. we are told one person was inside at the time but he was not injured. phillies play the cardinals in st. louis tonight looking to win their fourth game in a row, they are on quite a role here. yesterday phillies were down four-three in the second inning. ryan howard hits one off the wall here and the game is tied. phillies didn't stop there season high 18 hits for phillies and they beat out braves ten-five to sweep a series in atlanta for the first time since 2011. >> being able to kind of of give yourselves an opportunity we have not been out of it all year. up and down and hot and cold as we have been. this puts us back in the mix. we have to keep going from there and go on to st. louis. >> while howard has had great success in atlanta with 70 runs batted in, 71 games he is better in st. louis, in 26 games he has hit 368, nine

says economy still needs work so fed will keep short term interest rates at record low levels for foreseeable future. investors liked what they heard. dow jones and nasdaq finished up and s and p added 15 points to set another record high, erika and natasha, nice. tech world has been buzzing for months now and yesterday, amazon finally released its new 3-d smart phones and did it live up to all have of the hype. >> amazon ceo jeff bez theos certainly thinks it does. he introduced phone yesterday that produces 3-d like images which uses a camera so it can you'll in and out and scroll by tilting. fire phonies only available through at&t and cost $200 with the two year contract. the phone has a fire fly feature which allows to you point at a product and listen to a song and you can buy that product or song on amazon with just a couple of clicks.

puddles along the way. there is your speed meter readings for major roadways. bridges are back to normal. they came through strong, right around that 2:00 o'clock hour. >> it was lighting up the sky the amount of lightening, so many different lightening strikes and we have been report ago this there was an apparent lightening strike on a house in bucks county but now we're done the. we're out of the woods with this round. a few more rounds of showers and thunderstorm but nothing of that severity. look at the whitefield elementary school, pretty quiet on the ground but look at the upper right hand corner of the screen that is clearing skies. we are at 73 degrees here. we have a lot of damp pavement but we are, in the clear. this is a three hour loop and all those storms came through and done their business and out of here. you so you will likely have damp conditions traveling the red way, maybe flick windshield wipers once or twice but we are not dealing with showers and storms until later on in the day.

from steamy is to stormy, were you waken up by strong storms overnight? all around the area, this is brand new video just in from chalfont bucks county, fire fighters are on the scene after a house was struck by lightening apparently, this is on the 200 block of summer ridge circle and there was one person inside a home at the the time. we're also hearing about 2,000 people, without power now, in bucks county, also a very similar scene in west deptford gloucester county. fire fighters think a lightening strike spark a fire in this house on lynn drive. they got that fire under control very quickly. we have not seen the last of the storms at least not for the day. >> meteorologist katie fehlinger joining us with the steamy, stormy forecast, katie. >> it is still muggy out but i can tell you storms that woke us up last night will in the repeat later on today. when these storm comes through they sap energy out of the atmosphere. while we are still tracking our cold front, it has not yet to crosst
