crime. a woman followed, forced inside her home and then sexually assaulted. the victim a 26-year-old doctor. good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. police are taking a look at surveillance video in hopes it will lead them to some answers in this case. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has been tracking the investigation. he's got the very latest from rittenhouse square. >> reporter: it was just after midnight on saturday morning when the 26-year-old victim, a doctor at the hospital of the university of pennsylvania, was coming home from a nearby bar. she told police the suspect walked up behind her, grabbed her neck and forced her inside where she was sexually assaulted. >> to think that someone could do that. right house is a nice area so it's surprising. >> reporter: the 1900 block of spruce street is normal al quiet road. the early morning attack left neighbors taken aback saturday evening. >> you feel safe in this area but always got to be aware that you may not be. >> seems very safe. that's why i'm surprised that it happened here.

plea please are hopeful security cams are were able to capture the suspect on video perhaps before and after the attack happened. the public is asked to take precaution as the suspect remains on the streets. >> i am not always as a wear as i could be so this will make me probably more cognizant of what's going on around me. >> walk with people. >> reporter: the special victims unit is handling this case. the suspect is described as a hispanic male 5-foot 7-inches tall. in rittenhouse square, matt rivers. >> 20 year old james daniels is behind bars charged with rape robbery and possession of a deadly weapon. police in new castle county delaware say he punched a woman and forced her inside a car where he allegedly sexually assaulted her and hit her with baseball bat. when she escaped he reportedly drove off with her belongings.

daniels remains jailed unable to post bail. police release a picture of a man wanted for robbing two gun ranges in the city. the suspect identified as jeffrey chandler has the word stretch tattooed on his right hand. his alleged accomplice has already turned herself in to police. the pair are accused of robbing uri's gun range and the delaware valley sports send center gun shop and shooting range allegedly stealing nine handguns and sheeting a man as well. police are also investigating a deadly stabbing in philadelphia's hunting park neighborhood. officers say just before 4:00 a 37-year-old man was stabbed in the chest on the front porch of a home on the 1300 block of erie avenue. he was pronounced dead at the hospital. police say the suspects took off down erie avenue. if you have any information, please contact police. also this man is wanted for robbing three southwest philadelphia businesses in six days. in each of these cases, the

suspect enters alone, he talks to a worker and then suddenly pulls a gun from his right hip and demands cash. this surveillance video was taken inside the 56th street food market on thursday afternoon. no injuries have been reported. but police are worried about what will happen if his next victim resists. and police are now looking for two men in connection with a deadly shooting in the northeast. a man in his 20's was pronounced dead just before 2:00 this morning at colgate and rosalie streets in lawncrest. his name has not yet been released and it's still unclear exactly what sparked this shooting. and it's a beautiful night for a stroll. late june so we are going to warm things up again eventually but yeah somewhat of a cool start to the official summer season. high temperatures below average. we made it to 79. that was the official high at philadelphia international airport. our average high is 84 degrees, so we're below average but looks like the rest of the weekend we'll get closer to average and the humidity begins to build as we head towards next week. obviously it can get hot this time of year. 99 is the record high temperature for this date. quiet on storm scan through a-few fair weather clouds passing overhead as we speak from the city south and east. no threat of rain overnight. of big area of high pressure building over the northeast. a comfortable 71 degrees here in the city, 69 allentown, mid 60's to the south. millville, new jersey, 68 in wilmington suburbs also in the mid 60's this hour pottstown willow grove and doylestown. humidity levels stay low. open up the windows. low temperatures tonight will drop into the low 60's, maybe even some 50's in the suburbs

and a nice rebound tomorrow. again very pleasant low humidity. we'll warm it up though because we'll see more sunshine, back up to 84 for the high for philadelphia. the shore and mountains look very, lies in the mid 70's. we'll talk about when the warmth and humidity returns in the seven day forecast in a few minutes. natasha. >> justin thank you. tonight we're learning the identity of victim in yesterday's deadly collapse in cherry hill, new jersey. officials say 38-year-old jose ortega of camden was killed during demolition of an old blockbuster video store on route 38 in cherry hill. camden county investigators are still looking into how this collapse happened but preliminary reports indicate it was an accident. also a day after speaking out against the decriminalization of recreational drugs, pope francis takes on the mafia. excommunicating all members. cbs news correspondent alexis christoforous has more. >> reporter: pope francis has a message for mobsters, you're excommunicated from the

catholic church. francis made the trip to southern italy saturday. he held outdoor mass for more than a hundred thousand people in cal those who in their lives follow this path of evil as mafioso do he said are not in communion with god, they are excommunicated. many members of organized crime in italy regularly go to church and take part in the sacraments. francis visited a prison where some mafioso are serving time and met with the grandmother of a three-year-old killed along with his grandfather by mobster hit men. this was the strongest attack on organized crime since pope john paul ii aimed stinging criticism at the sicilian mafia in 1993. the mob responded by bombing several churchs in rome. a vatican spokesman said the pope's message to the mafia

in pennsylvania, drivers are paying $3.75 a gallon. and in delaware the average is $3.63. the national average stands at $3.68. healthcare workers, they walk off the job at chestnut hill hospital for a one-day strike. "eyewitness news" in germantown on germantown avenue as about 100 workers gathered outside carrying signs calling for fair labor practices and higher wages at the hospital. they're pushing for a new contract to provide good middle class jobs and a stronger voice in the future of the hospital. >> we want to make the whole neighborhood aware of what's going on here at their community hospital and hopefully get their support in trying to make the hospital understand we're out here not just for ourselves but mostly for the community and for the patients. >> officials say operations at chestnut hill hospital were not affected by the strike. and in germantown today, a celebration of history. marking the anniversary of the signing of the 13th amendment which abolished slavery in america. the event featured performances, historic exhibits and other family friendly activities. under the influence of drugs. >> he may be a convicted felon, but that hasn't stopped thousands of people from lusting after jeremy meeks. meeks was arrested in california 80 miles east of san francisco. so many people libeled like his mug shot when it was move the on facebook he was nicknamed the handsome felon. he is an admitted gang member with lengthy criminal history including nine years in jail for grand theft. he was arrest add gang sweep this week and being held on a million dollars bail. jailhouse interview he tried to explain why he had a gun. >> appreciate the, you know, that everyone thinks i'm handsome. i'm not trying to go at anybody, but if i have to back someone up off me for my own safety, then that's what that was for. like i'm out there trying kill people. >> one person who isn't happy about the media frenzy his wife. the so-called handsome felon is married with two young children.

now four states in the midwest are bracing for more flooding. in some spots they're seeing the worst month of rain in more than a century. cbs correspondent jamie, shows us some of the damage from minneapolis. report. >> a lot of it we'll lose. >> reporter: river boat captain didn't expect to kick off the summer weekend by cancelling four weddings. he's worried that he'll have to cancel more. >> that's a tough call to make when you have to call a bride and say, heim sorry, we have to suspend business because the river is forecasted to be over the banks. >> reporter: rising flood waters are closing roads and sidewalks on harriet island and it's only going to get worse. >> their prediction is going to be probably three, 4 feet up the building there. >> reporter: three to 4 feet up the building. >> up the building, yeah. >> reporter: this is the wettest june on record i 140 yes in minnesota. the mississippi river has swelled as area lakes and streams flow into it. by tomorrow, the river is expected to rise above 17 feet.

at st. paul's airport they built a second wall to protect against rising waters. minnesota is expected to ask for federal help. the torrential rains have washed out roads and created mudslides around hospitals and apartment buildings. like the one barbara lee lives in near jordan minnesota. >> that stove was against that wall. and the whole side of the building came through the wall. >> reporter: mississippi river is rising and moving and more than 20 feet per second. at that speed it is potentially damaging to nearby homes and businesses. that's what prompted the army corps of engineers deputy commander christian thompson to release some of the pressure from the dam. >> what would happen if you didn't open this dam? you're looking at potential flood risk to the community he here. so we've got to open this to help alleviate some of that. >> reporter: jamie, cbs news. >> turning to our weather now, couldn't have asked for a more

perfect first day of summer. temperatures below average. low humidity. something about the weekend. we'll do it all over again. a little bit more sunshine and warmer but comfortable. great weekend to be down at the shore. cloudy today had a couple of showers earlier this evening. but still didn't stop people out on the boardwalk in ocean city. and still out there right now. taking advantage of the nice weather tonight. temperatures are in the upper 60s. so nothing terribly warm overnight tonight. we're dropping into the 60s right now over most spots. 70s still at the airport. 65 in reading very comfortable humidity levels low for this time of year. 55 comfortable degrees up in mount pocono. but again nothing too warm across the northeast and mid atlantic. nice cool refreshing air mass has moved in from canada. sticks around for the rest of the weekend. high pressure will knows its way into new england that keeps us nice and dry pre text us from any storms. any showers stay to our south. south and washington, d.c. through the overnight just a few clouds may pass by we'll call it

partly cloudy. overnight hours through the delaware valley. more sunshine and your way for sunday. now winds are starting to switch little bit more out of the east. so that still keeps our temperatures from get to go hot. flow coming in off the water. need that strong persistent south wind bring that that heat and humidity. we're not seeing that. sunday afternoon winds still easterly off the ocean. it's monday that win starts to switch around out of the southeast becomes more southerly into tuesday. that's when we start to bring back that humidity and that classic summer like feel we have here in the delaware valley. 80s tomorrow with more sunshine than we had today. high pressure over new england keeps us dry for monday. little bit warmer upper 80s. humidity returns on tuesday. still dry. we'll see warm front move through bringing some clouds and looks like wednesday is our next best chance to see scattered showers maybe even a thunderstorm. sprinkle or two possible in the mountains tomorrow. i think most areas stay dry just a few clouds a lot of sunshine around. same deal on monday. mostly sunny conditions. tuesday some more clouds to

start to move in. that's the sign of the warmer air as well as the humid air mass beginning to build back into the region. so overnight still comfortable. partly cloudy. 62 for center city. that means suburbs could get down into the 50s so a nice refreshing start to the day on sunday. a lot of sunshine through the afternoon. warm us back up to 84 degrees which is the average high temperature for this time of year. winds out of the east to southeast east about 10 miles per hour. shore forecast more sunshine than we had today. have the sunblock around uv index high. ocean water 70 degrees. air temps 77. rip current risk will be at a moderate level because of that easterly wind. it pushes off all that water on the beach and that water has to go back. it's go the a lot of force with it. it can cause rip currents make sure the lifeguards are on duty if you plan to head into the ocean. here's the extended forecast. we'll warm it up next week. 86. monday and tuesday some more clouds. wednesday it's warm, humid, 88. with a chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. humidity drops again for the
