in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> now at 11:00 o'clock, firefighters out on a call saving lives return to shocking vandalism. their cars smashed at firehouse. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. "eyewitness news" has exclusive pictures of that damage tonight. natasha brown talked with some of the firefighters she's live in north coventry. natasha? >> while firefighters were just about a mile or so away trying to save a property from burning to the ground, vandals had no regard for their personal property left here in the parking lot. >> just after 2:00 a.m. saturday, north could have century township volunteer firefighters responded to a call outside of charred furniture the home was salvaged. lives were saved. but nothing could pro pair them for what they returned to find at their own firehouse. >> came back, and we had about five to six cars that were

vandalized by somebody unknown who at this time. >> reporter: no sirens to warn them about the vandals that ruined several firefighters cars in the parking lot causing thousands of dollars worth of damage. >> this is one of the worst damaged cars we had. >> reporter: "eyewitness news" attained these exclusive pictures of vehicles left wrecked and nearly ruined. >> quite a surprise to all of us. actually, ticked us off pretty well to put it bluntly. >> reporter: vandals evaded cameras permed outside the building. every minute everyone's presence oh and a fire seen counts they're forced to possibly leave a member behind to stand guard over their property. >> now what do we do? we get dispatched in the middle of the night again. do we want to come out? so we can have our vehicles ruined or do we just have somebody stay back and, you know, guard our vehicles while everybody elsewhere we lose one person? all they're doing is messing with our response and the safety

of our community and that's what everybody is here for. >> reporter: damage estimates to the cars range from 200 to $2,200. meantime firefighters tell us they will also be adding more cameras to the outside of the building trying to protect their property. we're live in north coventry township, natasha brown, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> it's a big night. the moment that 76ers fans have been waiting for after a dismal year of rebuilding the sixers had two top 10 pick in the inform ba draft and made some moves. our sports director beasley reece is live with the on-going action tonight. beasley? >> well, we waited for andrew bynum. we waited for nerlins noel now we have to wait for joel embiid's right foot to heal and croatian star to work off a contract. >> with the third pick in the 2014nba draft, the philadelphia 76ers select joel embiid from cameroon and the university of

kansas. >> now with the tenth pick the sixers selected point guard he will fred peyton from louisiana lafayette traded him to orlando for power forward dario zarick from crow yea is a he has to work two years avenue contract he signed with the team in turkey. our lesley van arsdall is on the scene at the draft in brooklyn, new york and she joins us with the report. hi, lesley. >> reporter: hi beas. you're absolutely right. it's unclear when we will see either of these players on the court in a sixers uniform. joel embiid suffered that serious injury to his foot about week prior to the draft. but before that, he was the projected overall number one pick. the 7-foot center from kansas was loved by everyone. right now he's going to miss at least four to six months to recover, and then the sixers could even hold him out for the entire season. they received miss his medical records they do know what they're dealing with. embiid was not at the draft tonight because of his injury,

brunswick are especially proud of one team u.s. a member. tim howard the current u.s. goal system from there. he was a stand out athlete at north brunswick township high school and many at the north brunswick pub were cheering him on today. >> a big vote tonight at a bucks county high school. students and administrators there have been battling over the use of the controversial team nickname redskins. it's happening at neshaminy school in langhorne. "eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live with the results of this vote. todd? >> reporter: chris, the school board here tonight voted the student newspaper's ban on the use of the word redskins can stand but only in certain sections of the paper. but in any case this looks like a battle that would wind up inside a courtroom. the neshaminy redskins football team had great year. but in a student newspaper sports pages, you wouldn't find the name of the mascot anywhere. student editors voted ruling the mascot is a racial slur and should be banned from the paper.

the school board's nurse night won't reverse that entirely instead it will prevent the high school editors from deleting the word redskin only on the editorial page. where other students summit letters to the editor. >> it still does not belong in school board policy. it's something we have the right to decide for ourselves. >> reporter: school board considered forcing the student editors to use the word redskins throughout the and tour paper. but the revised policy means redskin can still be banned in news and sports stories. board members see the revised policy as a reasonable compromise. >> every student's rights are protect under this p.m. see and i believe it will be up hell as being a correct policy for the diss track. >> at thursday night's meeting three bucks county residents who say they are part native american let their feelings be known. >> how many native americans need to tell you that it's disparaging? you know, are you going to put a word on your team that has something to do with jewish people or irish people or

black people? i'm extremely offended by it being apache. this land is our land much this land belongs to the native americans. >> reporter: school board voted eight-one in favor of the new policy tonight but the student editors have hired their own attorney and are considering filing a lawsuit. reporting live tonight in bucks county, todd quinones cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> todd, thank you very much. >> showboat casino may be closing its doors for doors. noticing will be going out to workers tomorrow. those notices say casino may close in 60 days. the showboat has more than 2100 employees. >> this was the scene in morri morrisville bucks county where man reportedly drowned tonight. this is on university drive. we're told that victim because found unresponsive in backyard pool. the incident is still under investigation and police remain at the scene. tonight police in salem, new jersey, are searching for woman

caught on camera viciously beating a mother in front of her young son. >> i could have been dead right now had she hit me in the right spot. it would have been over. >> the victim catherine ferrara suffered a broken nose and a concussion. she used to work at mcdonald's with the suspect who police identified as five year old la tia harris. she says the fight started over workplace gossip. her two year old son was the only one who tried to intervene. >> after that i became so much closer to my son because like he didn't care what was going on. he wasn't afraid. just wanted that defend his mom that's my world right there. like i love that boy so much. >> police will charge harris aggravated assault and making threats again the victim and her son. >> we have exclusive video night of the aftermath of a shoot out in norristown. this happened in the one at hundred block of willow street. the driver of the shot out van kept going. driving a few miles to mercy

hospital where a passenger sought treatment. and another car was at least two bullet holes was towed away from the scene. the motive for this shooting is unclear. >> young man who was found by police at an olney stabbing seen washing away blood from the sidewalk and from a female victim is facing charges to night. 18 year old anthony waters according to police stabbed 71 year old fee mal neighbor between 15 and 20 times. he's also accused of stabbing a 54 year old male neighbor. this crime happened wednesday morning on north fourth street. police say that waters wanted to steal the female victim's car and sell it to a chop shop. police say that the victim's conditions are improving tonig tonight. >> police need your help as they try to identify a suspect wanted for raping a woman in camden, new jersey. investigators say the driver of this white toyota avalon forced the vick time into his car and sexual assaulted her in the 500 block of spruce street this afternoon around 2:30. police described the suspect as

a hispanic male. he was wearing a white polo shirt with tan stripes. and a blue wind breaker type pant. >> dna from the written house square rape suspect is not linked to any unsolved rape cases in the city according to philadelphia police. still milton garcia is accused of attacking a woman in her apartment near 19th and spruce early last saturday morning. he was arrested monday night. the honduran citizen was kick out of the country last june. now he faces deportation in addition to charges from last weekend's attack. >> it is almost becoming as freak as bear sightings. there's been another shark siting down the shore. fisherman found this great white and we will tell you where next. kathy? >> do we really want to know? weather wise we're looking at a few clouds moving through tonight. behind that, clear skies for the weekend. and it is going to get even warmer. those dog days of summer return in the seven day. i'll have that coming up.

shark off the coach of long beach island take a look. rich la san see says he caught this juvenile shark about 15 minutes off the shore. he says he was surprised to see its head and teeth more importantly pop out of the water. he says he removed the hook and then sent that shark on its way. >> a crown controversy erupts in delaware. a new miss delaware is crowned after a dispute erupts over the age of the first winner. "eyewitness news" reporter elizabeth hur has more on this pageant predicament. >> reporter: two miss delawar delawares crowned in less than two weeks. >> i was completely shocked when i found out tuesday because all of this was verified. >> for amanda long acre it's disheartening and disappointing. in her view, she won the miss delaware 2014 title fair and square. >> i had given all of my documents, my birth certificat certificates, my social security card, night driver's license. >> reporter: to be told this week she's simply too old to

her legal options. this not only to win back her title but she says also on the line is the $11,000 scholarship she won so she says her fight here has just gun. reporting from dover, delaware, i'm elizabeth hur cbs-3 witness news. >> kathy back now from sea isle city. what beautiful day on the beach. it was. it was outstanding started off cloudy. a little bit breezy like that land breeze. but by the afternoon, late afternoon, the sun popped out and all of a sudden it got hot. not used to that kind of heat. it's been a long spring. we're looking at conditions that are going to change big time over the weekend. it will be pleasant but then back to the sticky heat and some some are too many storms. take look outside down the shore the boards not as busy. you can see a little bit of a haze there. it's still a little sticky. humidity running high down the shore in ocean city, cape may county it is going to be busy tomorrow. a lot of vacations getting underway this weekend.

right now in philadelphia, it's 81 degrees. you can see in trenton little bit cooler at 74. 74 in allentown. 71 in millville and in atlantic city at the airport in pomono 9 miles inland it is 72 degrees. down the shore, we're looking at temperatures that are still mi mild. you can see beach haven, 73. at the beach on the bearer islands still 72 in ac. sea isle 74. cape may 73. rehoboth beach, delaware, 74. but look at this. the ocean water temperature cooling down with those land breezes. the temperature 66 degrees. now, on storm scan3 not really seeing much. we have little bit of cloudiness here that will be moving through overnight. but behind this boundary, it is dry. and we are going to be seeing a good deal of sunshine. the dew point is a drew amount of moisture in the atmosphere. when you see 60, that's fairly comfortable. when you get in the mid 60s through atlantic city, wildwood, millville and dover that's on the sticky side. now, during the day tomorrow, on our comfort index right around 60 for that due point and that's

not so bad it's getting little bit closer to pleasant hopefully we'll be able to get there soon. high pressure building down from canada trying to dry out the air and we will be seeing temperatures in the 80s and some sun sheen. a chance of a stray afternoon shower much that's really just about it. the high continues to slide eastward. saturday another nice day with mostly sunny skies. but you know it has to change. warm front approaches from the west by sunday that increases the heat and the humidity and we'll be seeing still dry conditions sunday but those showers will be knocking on our doorstep. overnight tonight, look for pa partly cloudy skies. mild and muggy low temperature 68. more comfortable during the day on friday. the high 84. and if you're going to be vacationing down the shore for friday, looking good. 77 degrees. with a breeze. and during the day on saturday, looking good as well. even warmer with high temperature of 78. poconos look great. this is a really nice place to relax and cool off. friday, 76. saturday near 80.

deal landing consider yo zarick of croatia. he's committed to play in turkey two years. the sixers believe he's worth the wait. losing is not supposed to be good but usa team usa soccer lost to germany this afternoon. will not hurt, though. no score in the second half. germans on the tack. tim howard make the save but the ball goes through thomas muller and he blasted passed howard. germany takes a one-nil lead. usa had a couple of chances. democracy header goes over the crass bar. germany won one-nil but usa still advances to the next rou round. they will face belgium on tuesday afternoon. they beat south korea one to nothing to win the top spot in group h. this is the third time the last four world cups team u.s. a has advanced to the knock out round. >> being able to get to the knock out stage that was always the goal. a lot of people probably didn't think we'd be able to do that

but we believed in ourselves and that we played in good performances in the thee games especially the last game i thought we played really well. we were lucky to get the three points. >> phillies and marlins at the ballpark tonight. cole hamels on the mound with help from dominic brown. phillies down two-one in the fifth. chase utley at the plate. singles to right field. speedy ben revere trots in to tie the game. now in the seventh marcel a sunna facing cole hamels and he lost that one. a sunna with the solo homerun. cole gave up three solo shots in the contest. the fishery gain the advantage but in the phillies half of the inning jimmy rollins with grounder to first. jeff baker couldn't handle. brown scored on the error. and right now the game is in the 13th tied at three. there's mr. news when we come ba
