>> breaking news tonight. deadly shooting on north fifth street in fair hill neighborhood of philadelphia. a 32 year old man was shot in the head and torso. police say the victim was fighting with his wife in the middle of the street blocking traffic. someone angry they couldn't get by got out of the vehicle and opened fire shooting that man. the investigation continues. good evening to you, i'm jessica dean. chris may has the night off. >> we have more breaking news to tell you about a police officer is stabbed trying to break up a man and woman arguing on the street. "eyewitness news" reporter jan carrabeo live from jefferson university hospital where that officer was taken. >> reporter: here's the scenario. we have a philly cop on regular patrol he seize a man and a woman fighting of course, he gets out, he tries to help, tries to diffuse the situation. instead he cut and here at jeff son hospital. fortunately his wounds are not that severe but it's a situation that certainly could have turned out whole lot worse.

tempers flared friday night along the 700 block of lombard street in philadelphia. a police officer routinel routiy driving along notices a fight between a man and his girl forty seven that. girlfriend police say is wielding a knife. as the officer gets out of his cruiser an items to enter 15, there's a struggle and police say the woman cuts the officer. >> any time we respond to an incident of a domestic incident or just on patrol, you never know what's going to happen. >> reporter: that officer injured was still able to apprehend the man and the woman. >> these officers are trained to respond to whatever situation they may have coming toward them and in this instant the officer did an out staning john and affected the rest of the individuals. >> reporter: the officer was taken to the hospital with only superficial wounds sliced once in the arm. he'll be okay much police say thanks to his training and a little bit of luck. >> any day that we can get lucky philadelphia police officers we consider that blessing. >> reporter: meanwhile, police have not yet identified either of the people who were arrested or the charges that they face.

this investigation is on going to t night. reporting outside jefferson hospital. jan carrabeo cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> new tonight one person killed in crash in hamilton township, atlantic county. chopper three over bears head road. police say two cars collided at estelle avenue. at least one other person was injured and investigation into the cause of that crash is underway. now to an "eyewitness news" exclusive. a woman is splashed with bleach during a frightening attack in northeast philadelphia. natasha brown is live at police headquarters with the details. natasha? >> reporter: jessica, this attack happened in a 2400 block of welsh road in northeast philadelphia. this victim happened to be here in this country visiting relatives at the time and she'll now leave with a very frightening memory. >> really frightened and scared when i go out. report roar this young victim wants to conceal her face but there's no hiding from the trauma she suffered at the hands of a robbery suspect. >> i open the store.

they both came. >> vick testimony watching the s and j beauty supply salon for her i wasn't when man and woman just strolled in. they were milling around the store checking out items. the two suspects leave and return to the store three times before pretending that buy something. that's when the victim is doused with bleach. >> she burned eye lashes. i open the cash register and all i could remember was the guy throwing bleach in my eyes, and that was it. that was all i can remember. everything happened so fast. >> reporter: the girl scurries out of the store while the male suspect grabs cash from the register. the victim's i wasn't owns the store and says her niece was just here visiting from africa. a visit now marched by violence. >> she couldn't see a thing. she was crying. her eyes were so red. >> it went straight into this eye. >> reporter: victim still suffers from blurred vision and finds it painful to close her eyes. while her eyes will eventually heal, her confidence has been shaken at least for now.

>> now everybody is -- not everybody is like that. i'm just scared for now. >> reporter: the alleged female accomplice was reportedly taken into cut shortly after this attack happened. the meantime the male suspect is still out there on the loose. he apparently got away with about $100. if you have any information about his whereabouts, please contact police right away. we're live here at police headquarters natasha brown cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> very scary incident, natasha, thanks so much. police release a new picture of woman wanted in the brutal beating of a mother in salem, new jersey. take close look at this picture of la tia harris. police are asking her to turn herself in. investigators say she's the woman caught on tape beating catherine ferrara right in front of her two year old son. if you have any information about harris used asked to call police. >> chopper three over a road rage incident in camden county. one person was caught on the hand with a knife in the parking lot of the shopping right in clementon. that person refused medical

treatment. police believe this incident between two drivers started in deptford. police took a suspect into custody in pine hill and charges are pending. a beautiful night tonight but what can we expect as we head into the last weekend of june? meteorologist kathy orr is live outside on the cbs-3 sky deck with a closer look at your weekend forecast. kathy? >> jess it's a great night to be outside. we have starlit skies, low humidity, a bit of breeze. crank the windows open because it is very comfortable tonight but it is not going to stay that way. on storm scan3 you can see not a cloud out there. we are looking at conditions that are going to be very pleasant right through the over into the and into the weekend. temperatures are still fairly comfortable. 72 in philadelphia. 68 in trenton. 60s in millville, dover, atlantic city and wildwood. just a very pleasant evening to be outdoors. now here's a look at the first part of your weeken week saturdn philadelphia 85 with sunshine. mostly sunny with bit of a sea breeze down the shore. keeping eight little bit cooler

vague army store last june. the judge ruled campbell is not eligible for bail because he facing a mandatory life senten sentence. he's charged with murder along with heavy equipment operator sean benschop. >> my position is, this was a tragic horrible accident. and that's where it is. and it's not a murder case. >> they both knew that the actions they were doing were reckless because they were both warned in separate ways prior to that date. >> a grand jury continues to investigate that collapse. the showboat casino in atlantic city announces it's closing at the end of august. this is the second casino in ac to shut down this year. and just last week revel filed for bankruptcy for the second time. tonight one expert says it's likely even more casino will close. cleve bryan has more reaction from new jersey. >> we've been coming for years. >> shirley takes a birthday trip with her daughters to the showboat. the hat ladies took the news

hard that the showboat is closing. >> very disappointed in it. i don't know what i'm going to do next year. >> worse yet more than 2,000 showboat workers are wondering where they'll find a new job. >> i have four kids. i'm losing my penn fits. >> the mayor says the showboat closing is part of a painful but inevitable transition away from the city relying on casinos. industry expert roger gross says the pain is far from over. >> it's in pretty bad shape right now. it's over capacity. way too much -- too many slot machines and table games. we have frankly too many casinos open right now. >> with the atlantic club closing this year and revel filing for bankruptcy last week for the second time in two yea years, atlantic city is trying to focus on non casino dollars like conventions, retail and beach center events all positive but those plans could take long time to compensate for the thousands of jobs lost if more casinos close. >> i've had people tell me they can't see more than six casinos surviving here. i see a few more than that. i see about eight.

but that means we've got to eliminate two more before we kind of get to stable condition. >> reporter: a couple positive scenarios for atlantic city. buyer could come along and take over the showboat. also convert the so boat into a non-gaming hotel. another positive scenario many of the gamblers here could move on to other casinos there by lifting their revenues. in atlantic city, cleve bryan, cbs-3 eyewitness news. >> as we get closer to the fourth of july holiday area police forces will be on the look out for drunk drivers. duism checkpoints will be set up throughout montgomery and buck counties over the next two weekends. it's all part of a state police initiative to keep you safe on the road. >> last week in matter of 3.5 hours wed will 11duism drivers. >> officials are logging that pass a law to cut down on repeat duism offenders. in pennsylvania and new jersey officials want mandated personal breathalyzers tied to ignition systems for drivers charged with their first dui offense but that bill is having trouble getting passed. caught on video a plain

injunction will allow our charitable entities to continue without fear of facing punitive fines. we will continue on behalf of all believing catholic to stand up for religious liberty ". >> a bill to legalize medical marijuana in pennsylvania takes a step forward. the senate law and jut justice committee voted unanimously to make it little for seriously ill patients to use marijuana with recommendations from their doctors. this is the first time such legislation was considered in pennsylvania. the bill now heads to the senate appropriations committee. >> a new attraction is already drawing a crowd on pennsylvania lanning. the spruce street harbor park opened to the public today at 401 south columbus boulevard. nowhere and that's the idea. >> we're really excited to open spruce street harbor park today. >> jodi works for the agency that crow 88ed the pop up park. it's temporary built over the last few months designed to last only through the summer. officials say it's a low cost way to make the river a destination. >> we have these great festival events on the weekends on key nights but this park is seven days a week. >> reporter: park features are certainly unique not the least of which are these nets that you can hang out while looking down at the river below you. my personal favorite but more than just pretty place. organizers hope that this park helps generate greater public interest in developing more of the waterfront as whole a task that has proven difficult. drwc master plan calls for a public space along the river every half mile or so. making a reality will require significant funding and political support hence the need for public interest. >> we see this park as a chance to change the conversation about what people think about their

cape may county. but as we get closer to the fourth, it will get even busier. to night clear skies, gentle breezes, and low humidity keeping it very comfortable everywhere. on storm scan3 nothing but clear skies. that's the good news. from new england through the delaware valley, down through the mid atlantic, and even out through the midwest. so no real weather issues until you get a little bit farther south. right now in philadelphia, 72. it is 68 in trenton. 75 in allentown. reading 74. the air mass over us is coming from canada so it is dry and it's helping these temperatures fall to more comfortable levels. down the shore we're in the 60s and the 70s. atlantic city 70. 69 in sea isle. cape may 67. milder rehoboth beach at 71. and the ocean water temperature in atlantic city is 68. as we have easterly winds tomorrow, those ocean water temperatures will be warming up. in cape may near the bay 77. so on the warm side. the ocean water temperature in

lewes, delaware, 73 and rehoboth beach, delaware, it's 74. slightly above average for this time of year. fair weather high pressure will dominate our weather with this singing air helps to keep those clouds away. we'll have plenty sunshine saturday with highs in the 80s. ditto for sunday, and then by monday, as this high pressure moves farther away, we get into this return flow. more avenue south southwesterly wind. bringing that heat and humidity up the coastal plains so higher temperatures in the upper 80s. and more humidity. then by tuesday, just as july begins, wouldn't you know it, that jet stream lifts well to the north. very hi hot, very humid, you know, that sets off those summertime storms. we'll be seeing them some of them next week as well. overnight skies will be mainly clear. starlit. it will be seasonably mild the low temperature 64. come tomorrow morning, very early, you may need a light sweater but that's very early because that sun is very strong. warm um to 85 degrees in the

>> former transformer star shia leboeuf is out of jail tonight. this is the scene earlier at leboeuf left a new york courthouse he was swarmed by reporters. the 28 year old spent the night behind bars. he was allegedly inn tock indicated and yelling obscenities during a performance of cabaret. eyewitnesses said he was acting strange before that play. >> getting a drink at the bar with a torn shirt and stumbling and then he fed a strawberry to a woman from her plate. >> leboeuf has had a string of arrests including one for drunk driving. we'll be right back ♪
