who vanished in the ocean. that 14 year-old disappeared off the coast of cape may county last night. "eyewitness news", new jersey reporter, cleve bryan is live in ocean city with the very latest, cleve? report report chris, just a few moments ago we actually saw life guard get up and call everybody out of the water here at ninth street and tell them do not go back in the ocean, the beach is closed. right there along that jetty is where the incident happened sunday night. we have learn in the past hour both the beach patrol and the u.s. coastguard have have called off suspended their search for that missing boy. as dawn arrived in ocean city coastguard helicopters resumed searching for a 13 year-old boy missing after a large group of people were all caught in the rip current sunday night. >> when we came down here you could feel a different mood, people are really concern, upset. >> reporter: boy's family watched as coastguard, state police and ocean city beach

patrol searched above and below the waters near ninth street jetty, relative who didn't want to talk on camera says boy was at the the beach with huskies instant. >> big family on the beach and three kids at the end of the jetty swimming and rip tides pulled them out, the to the ocean. >> reporter: beach patrol says, 14 people were rescued from the rip current. some have been trying to save the first swim hours got in trouble. after the initial 911 call the patrol's four person rapid response team arrived in less than a minute. >> one on a jet ski, one on a atv and two that will respond to any emergency, guys are trained in multiple water safety techniques. there was multiple people in the water. and, they did an outstanding job. >> reporter: life guards were not on duty when this happened at 6:45 last night but wrapped response team is on until 8:00 p.m. witnesses say incident is a reminder how easy the ocean can over power you. >> all of the moms were just hugging their kids and crying and it was a very sad situation. >> we all wanted to go out

investigation is focused on how well the gate at rita's was installed and anchored into the foundation. >> it seems almost impossible that the department of licenses and inspections would inspect every grates, every, you know, fixture. >> reporter: that is exactly what l and i inspectors have been doing on this block since saturday. we saw them again monday afternoon inspectors telling us that the gate at a restaurant just five doors down is falling apart. >> we spoke with the owner, and, tomorrow morning. >> reporter: as for the incident at rita's, the agency says it ties early to place blame. who is at fault here? is it the contractor who installed or is it the owner for the upkeep. >> we have reached out to the owners of local chain and no response but l and i says they are helping, with the investigation, meanwhile, l and i will be back out here bright and early tomorrow morning to continue canvassing and to check on that restaurant to make sure that

we have a developing situation severe weather in the midwest this severe thunderstorm watch has been label a particularly dangerous situation thanks to this area of thunderstorms being label a potential duratio as it moves through so that is something to watch in that part of the country this evening. another thing to watch thinks area have on disturbed weather off the coast of florida which has an 80 percent chance of tropical development. they flew aircraft in this afternoon, it does have wind up to 35 miles an hour but not a the lot of thunderstorm development. it has not been labeled a depression. see it north of the bohamas and lifting north up toward the carolinas as we head towards the end of the week. look at water temperatures very warm. dark red, you can see where that storm will go. it will miss us out to sea. water temperatures there in the 80's to near 90 for us, in the 70's at the moment. we will watch that storm even off shore as it could pick up coastal impacts thursday and friday especially. temperatures right now 85 at the airport. eighty-two in millville. heat and humidity come back

mayor of toronto rob ford is back in the news tonight after spending two # months in the rehab facility. ford took temporary leave from office on april 30th to seek out problems for addiction particularly with alcohol and drugs. well to day he spoke to members of the media at toronto's sit the eye hall and apologized for his actions. >> after experiencing some of the darkest moments in my life, i decided that enough is enough. >> i had become my own worst enemy. >> ford went on to promise his conn sit wents he will maintain his sobriety, will continue to serve in office, unless he is voted out. a panel of mental health experts say oscar pistorius was not momently ill when he shot his girlfriend to death. that mental assessment was revealed today when sprinter's trial resumed in south africa

if it does it will be first named storm of the season named arthur. where is the storm going to go? we have plotted models. most of them keep the storm off the the north carolina coast as it heads north east but it could be close enough to brush with us rainfall heading through hot holiday weekend. here's the track up toward north carolina and back out to sea. later friday we could see showers in here at the new jersey coastline. how much rain are we talking about? well, we will be combining this tropical system with a cold front, so majority of the rain stays off the coast but look at what happens up near delaware valley. a lot of this is from the front. this ace i potential two, maybe even 3 inches. cold front moves faster, then we will get less rain and push es tropical system out of here but for now here's what we're thinking for upcoming weekend towards friday. we will watch the coast for that potential for heavy rains, south and east but gusty wind, highs at the coast could get 40 miles per hour if that storm does track enough to the coast and certainly

some higher surf and dangerous rip currents. even after the the storm passes there will be strong rip currents throughout the weekend. i'm meteorologist justin drabick in the cbs-3 studios. on the healthwatch tonight, new guidelines for pelvic exams. the american college of physicians is recommending, against pelvic exams for most women. they say that exam rarely detects important disease and associated with discomfort, false positive and negative examinations, and extra costs. some gynecologists don't agree, they say they will perform them despite the the new recommendation. >> for the vast majority of the women, that i have seen they don't express any, you know, issue, large issue with having the exam performed and really, very many of them actually feel very grateful to have an asses. of the uterus and ovaries done. >> that guideline, applies to men in not pregnant, those at average risk for cancer and women who do not show any
