at least we're dry, we don't have any storms to talk about in the near future but certainly it is hot. lets get to our graphics ape talk about what is happening as far as temperatures. today, hottest day of the year, 95 degrees the official high temperature, normal high is 86. record high is 103, setback in 1901. now temperatures that is half of the battle, factor in the humidity, right the now it feels like 101 in philadelphia, 104 in wilmington. eighty-seven allentown. cooler there because of the rain. ninety's down towards the shore points. we will have scattered showers and storms even here in media temperatures in the upper 80's and 90's with heat indexes in the 90's. we are looking better later tonight, nine or 11:00, partly cloudy skies but you very warm and humid with more shower and storm chances coming up tomorrow and again friday. we will have more on the forecast coming up in a few more minutes. live from media i'm meteorologist justin drabick.

you are staying cool. fine us on facebook and twitter at cbs philly.com. do you prefer this type of weather or are you missing winter. coming up at 6:00 o'clock most people are staying hydrated in this type of weather, but imagine, you cannot eat or drink sunrise to sunset. that is why many are doing because it is the month of ramadan. hear from one man who is trying to beat the heat as best as he can. for now we are live from collinswood, syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". same, thanks very much. first responders are on the scene right now of a serious crash on route 55 in woodbury gloucester county. a car overturned here and wound up in the woods, you can see it there on the screen, chopper three over that scene right now. emergency crews have pulled one person from the wreckage but there is no word on that person's condition. authorities have now charged a philadelphia woman accused of leaving five kids in the car while she was shopping. karen thompson has been charged with five counts of endangering welfare of the

child and five counts of reckless endangerment. police say thompson a home day care provider left kids in the port richmond parking lot for half an hour. those children are age nine years old to six months are doing okay. take a look at these flames, two buses from the sticks and for inner concert tour catch fire in philadelphia chopper three over a parking lot at second and callowhill, flames started in the back of one bus this afternoon, quickly spread to a minoring bus, police say no one was injured but the cause of those fires under investigation. driver of this red car, suffered minor injuries after colliding with a new jersey transit river line train. chopper three over the the scene earlier today on haddon avenue knew and nickel boulevard in camden. transit official says the driver of the car tried to cut the train off, no one on board that train was injured. tonight we are learning what may have caused a food truck to explode injuring 13 people in philadelphia. this happened at third and wyoming in feltonville.

"eyewitness news" reporter jane carabao is live at the scene of the blast as she talked to a septa police officer who was among the first responders, jane. >> reporter: well, chris, this food truck was taken away today and was actually park behind me here just 24 hours ago now, engulfed in flames. as this investigation continues we are getting a better picture of what could have cause that had explosion. police now believe that one of the propane tanks was leaking, the neighbors enveloped the truck and gas grills inside probably spark the explosion. violent and fast, surveillance cameras near third and wyoming catch a feltonville food truck turn in the ball of fire. today those first on the scene to help were recalling and capturing the walking wounded. >> people in their underwear that had taken their clothes off from being burn and walking around peoples skin was hanging off their body as they were walking around. >> reporter: septa police officers were a block away at head quarters when a truck went up in flames. as part of the special operation unit their training

kicked in. >> two victims outside the truck, they were severely burned and pretty injured. >> i was able to get a blanket from one of the neighbors and it was take the other one, roll her in the blanket and get her down the street. >> reporter: they got injured away and kept everybody else back, still on fire they worried about a second explosion. >> there was a propane line hissing along the line. >> reporter: police say truck was equiped with two, 100-pound propane tanks both were full but only one was actual any use as the truck was opened for business. police say that the tank that wasn't in use had a leak and grills inside provided the ignition. >> i have never seen anything like tonight my life. >> reporter: family of the trucks owner olga gomez had been only in business for two months her daughter jaylen helped and until now the business was a dream come true. >> she was doing a very good job and it is crazy how this just happens. >> reporter: in all, 13 people were injured, police say five of those people are still in the hospital this evening, and in critical condition,

including that owner, her daughter tane other employees who are relatives. coming up at 6:00 we will take a look the at licensing process, process, for these food trucks and the the finding may surprise you. we are live from felt onville, jane carabao cbs-3 "eyewitness news". montgomery county officials have opened a joint investigation in the death of an 88 year-old man, on friday, body of jack ange was found wrapped in the tarp on state route 2036 in gibson township susquehanna county. ange is from plymouth township in montgomery county. official did his rule the death an homicide after an autopsy and we will have more on the investigation for you on "eyewitness news" at 6:00. developing right now flyers captain claude giroux is arrested in canada he reportedly spent the night in the ottawa jail cell after he repeatedly grabbed the buttocks of the police officer. chal is believed to be involve in the incident. the sources say giroux is

a truck carrying 7,000-pound of lobster slams in the bridge and sparks a fire. this is video from massachusetts, driver of the 13-foot truck tried to clear, a 10-foot bridge. it then crashed and burned into flames. the entire load of lobster worth a hundred thousand dollars was completely lost. inspectors had to come out and take a look at the bridge to make sure it was still usable. well, despite the the recent up tic in fuel prices, 41 million americans are expected to make a getaway for the july 4th weekend. >> as consumer reporter jim

donovan find the fourth creates a three day week end that brings good and also bad news for travelers. >> reporter: even though fourth of july falls on a friday many americans won't be satisfied with just a three day weekend. data from travel web site orbitz finds travelers stretching to it four making thursday the busiest and most expense i have day for a flight. >> july 3rd is the busiest travel day, travel on july 4th should be about 30 percent less than on july 3rd. we are seeing that this strong demand is driving prices up over the the holiday weekend. >> reporter: both orbitz and triple a find slightly higher hotel rates over the last year. they suggest looking beyond city limits for deals. for example planning a trip to the nation's capitol look across the the river in arlington, virginia. >> often times, it will net you big savings especially when things are pretty booked to the capacity in the heart of the city. >> reporter: triple a says 80 percent of the travelers will go by car despite highest gas prices for the holiday

beaches. take a look at 42 freeway, southbound on the 42 we are experiencing high volume from walt whitman bridge all the way down to 55. we are noticing this sign flashing here. we have two situations 142 southbound, just before this area at creek road we are dealing with an accident taking on the center lane. then moving beyond that point, 55 southbound at 47, the right lane is blocked because of an accident. so that southbound delay is trailing back toward the 42 and stalling traffic and stalling commuters. give yourself some more time. as far as speed sensors they are not awful. usually we will see more red at this time but we are in the yellow 306789's on i-95. schuylkill expressway. even traveling on 476. moving our way over into delaware 95 northbound mlk off ramp is closed as a result of the accident. we have an accident on the northeast extension be sure to follow me on twitter and i will have updates on that as well, chris. still to come here on "eyewitness news", routine use of the popular injection for back pain is being called into

that looks like fog, but very heavy rain, all of the cars have their headlights on there and downpour rips across berks county. 75 degrees at whitefield elementary school here in reading. lets look at what we are dealing with on storm scan three. storms took their time, developing but now they are really starting to fire up and they have heat and humidity to work w new one popped up over northeastern, bucks county, moving into new jersey, but the strongest storm we have is over berks county and watching this new one, just across the border in maryland this could drift in chester county here over the next couple of hours. so none of us are spared from storms tonight, if any spot makes it out, without a storm it would be south and east of philadelphia, down across south jersey. look at the the lightening moving across western berks county and northern lancaster county at the moment. 783 lightening strikes in the past frame have of radar here in the past five minutes or so. the the storms are moving, relative liz slowly, and generally speaking we will see storms generally move 30 to 35 miles an hour. these are all moving 25 miles

an hour to the east and that means threat for heavy rain will exist, some ponding on the roads, upper saucon 6:03. pottstown it will get to you 6:10 this evening. we have the storms. we've got the heat. here is our severe thunderstorm warning in effect until 6:00 p.m. there is one for lancaster county until 5:45. temperatures right now 94 at the airport. 91 degrees in wilmington. ninety-two in trenton. ninety-five # so far for the high, making it the hottest day of the year and feels like the hottest day of the year. now we will head towards the tropics, thinks arthur, latest 5:00 p.m. update just came out. it has strengthen, wind 07 miles an hour, sustain, pressure 992 milli bars, a little below hurricane status but it is expect to be a hurricane by 8:00 o'clock update tonight and area that will get hit hardest is outer banks of north carolina it will stay off shore for us but it will remain a category one hurricane. another round of heavy storms tomorrow with the slow moving cold front and arthur comes up the coast bringing bands of

also on line at cbs philly.com. well, there is breaking news just in the news room and it comes from berks county, a three-year old boy there has been hit by a car and rushed to the hospital. it happened on pine forge road in pine forge, berks county. we're told the boy's father had to pull his son from underneath that car. the boy suffered massive head trauma the driver stopped at the scene. both the the driver and the boy's father collapsed there, and they too are hospitalized. we will keep you posted. well, a federal magistrate ruled that the suspected ring leader of the terror attack on the u.s. diplomatic compound in benghazi, libya will remain jailed until time. ahmed abu khattala appeared at a brief detention hearing in washington today. he is accused of providing material support to terrorist. the attack in benghazi killed four americans, including the u.s. ambassador chris stevens. khattala was captured in libya

and transferred to the u.s. last week even. tensions between israelis and palestinians are growing after reports of another teenagers being kidnaped and killed. cbs news correspondent alex ortiz reports from east jerusalem. >> reporter: violent clashes broke out between israeli police and palestinian residents near jerusalem, following report that the young palestinian had been kidnaped and killed overnight bias rail is in an apparent retribution attack. hours earlier israeli mourners bid farewell to the three teenagers. their bodies, shrouded in flags. among them prime minister, benjamin netanyahu. police released the recording of a 911 call made by one of the teens at the moment that they were abducted. we are being kidnaped, the alleged officer and then kidnapper yelled keep your head down, before the line goes dead. fearing it to be a hoax israeli forces initially

delayed their search for the boys for several hours. two weeks later they found them dead, in the pile of rocks in a field near hebron. israel blames hamas for kidnapping and killings and crackdown hard the on the group. in the ongoing security operation more than 400 palestinians have been arrested and at least six killed, including palestinian children. alex ortiz for cbs news, east jerusalem. well to day marks the 50th anniversary of the signing of the civil rights act, a turning point in the nation's struggle against racial discrimination. lewis sue. ukman was known as the freedom riders. they would travel to southern states and join fight against jim crow and segregation. it was a show of solidarity both black and white together that drew activist in the south during the 1960's. >> the idea is when we got in the bus terminal in jackson the freedom riders wering to the black waiting room, the

have and then we would be arrested. it seemed like the right thing to do. he spent 40 days in jail. the struggle though did pay off as segregation came to an end in the civil rights act became law shortly after their foray in the south. the f.d.a. is highlighting the dangers of the caffeine following the the overdose death of a teenager. eighteen year-old wrestler logan steiner died just a day before his graduation in ohio. the coroner ruled the cause of death to be a lethal dosage of pure caffeine powder, unregulated supplement. if someone took one full teaspoon of pure caffeine, equivalent of drinking 15 red bull energy drinks at one time. >> the message is for parents, kid, adults, everybody to really understand that when you are using things not regulated you don't necessity how much you are getting, you don't know what else is in there. >> f.d.a. officials warn pure

cbs philly.com as you plan your holiday fun. well, lots to talk about in the weather department. lets start off with the severe weather threat this evening. storm scan three showing a frontal boundary moving across portions of the eastern seaboard, strong storms across hudson valley in new york city at the moment and firing up in our western suburbs and these are moving, pretty slowly. problem with that is this cell has been sitting over berks county for past half an hour to an hour dumping heavy rainfall in that area. we have another storm just about to sneak in southern lancaster county and could impact chester county but worst one out there is one centered over, reading, and you can see red shading at the moment and look at all that lightening as well. because this storm hats been sitting in place for so long we have a flash flood warning. this goes until 9:30 for berks county, including city of reading. watch out for standing, water on the roadways. turn around, don't drowned,

flash flooding is occurring in spots. the that is what a warning means. be safe if you are in berks county tonight and watch that storm pushing eastward to see if we have more flash flooding concerns and gusty wind and hail possible with that storm. it feels like 101 still at philadelphia international airport. feels like 104 in wilmington. still very hot. very insufferable. it doesn't feel quite as bad in the areas you are getting the storms. we are trading heat for severe weather. then we are moving into tomorrow. flash flood watch already been issued. it will continue right through friday morning for much of the area it does not include the shore at the moment but does include philadelphia and all surrounding suburbs right now. so what does this mean? showers and strong thunderstorms will impact the area throughout the the day tomorrow especially tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening. rain amount in any storm one to 3 inches. like we're seeing today these storms will sit over certain areas. not everybody gets flash flooding but any area that has seen a heavy storm overhead could be dealing with one to 3 inches in a short period of

time. watch for poor drainage and we will keep a close eye on those smaller streams and creeks. here is tropical storm arthur just a notch by low hurricane strength. i do expect it to be a hurricane by end of tonight by 8:00p in m update. here are impacts for us. flash flood watch not directly related to arthur but that front moving through will just get hung up. it can't push through because arthur is sitting off south east coast. arthur feeding moisture meaning we have heavy rain with any storm. very gusty wind, off the coast on friday, gusts to 50 miles an hour down the shore, high surf and dangerous rip currents. does not look like a great fourth of july down the shore. we will clear things out in the city but it will be breezy. showers, storms, humid. seventy-four is our overnight low. for your thursday, showers storms, heavy at times, flash flood watch in effect for the area, 88 the high for thursday. here is your seven day forecast and shore cast, some improvement, for fourth of july but again, very windy so that could impact some fire works displays out there and
