today. >> lets get over to katie to see what you can expect heading out the door, good morning. >> reporter: this pattern stays incredibly active. we are tracking essentially a cold front and arthur those two things at this point are what will define our pattern as we look ahead to the holiday weekend here but pretty decent weather is expected to unfold for us as we hit the holiday weekend. lets start off locally on storm scan three. we have had heavy duty thunderstorms rumbling through new jersey. look at that lightening in the last few hours. we are in the lull right now. nice, wide zoom. there is arthur still churning off to the south. yet to make land fall as we just reported latest advisory just came out from the national hurricane center. this is true to form, category one hurricane and we are going to see this make its land fall across the carolinas. we will track it as it stand right now max sustain wind speeds at 75, so just meeting the criteria to be a category one hurricane and it is moving north at a slow pace, 9 miles

especially later on as folks, move to the shore, poconos, or for their where ever they are heading for their holiday weekend. here's a holiday look. roads damp and wet. this is route 202 near schuylkill expressway king of prussia heavy rain we dealt with overnight leaving behind some damp roads, maybe a puddle or two along the way. i-95 if you are traveling this holiday weekend just beware of the new traffic patterns that could be out there, not just here right here near girard avenue but up and down that i-95 corridor and all of the construction zones. they will not be active but if they move lanes around that will be new for you if you have not been traveling that stretch over the last couple of weeks. heading to the shore now is time to go. expressway parkway 47, not a problem at all but crunch time later on, will probably start between 12:00 and 2:00 and jenkintown an accident at old york road at washington lane. mass transit running with no delays at the moment, ukee, back over to you. thanks, bob. developing news right now search crews go back to work

to try to find a boater who disappeared on the delaware river. "eyewitness news" reporter jen bernstein joins news holmesberg where four others made it back to land, jen, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ukee. aside from the light wind, delaware river this morning is calm but there is still no sign of the missing 66 year-old man who we're told fridays bucks county. we did speak with friends off camera last night who said he is a strong swimmer and they are hoping he is still alive. last night's search crews immediately began looking for a 66 year-old man who was last seen in the delaware river around 8:00 p.m. manpower from philadelphia, new jersey state police, and the coastguard used boats, a chopper and under water tracking device. police said five people were on board a 24-foot sail boat watching a race when a storm quickly moved in. officials say group dropped their sales and used a motor to head back to the delaware river yacht club but the the sudden thunderstorm, caused this sail boat to capsize.

>> it filled with water and, according to the individuals on the boat it sunk immediately. >> reporter: four people were able to swim back to the river bank by the philadelphia fire academy. they told police they last saw this 66 year-old using a cooler as a floattation device in the river. >> while they were getting on the banks of the delaware river, saving themselves they looked back and they saw the cooler floating and they no longer saw the 66 year-old male holding on. >> reporter: police do tell us it was difficult to see the the water because of all of the rain. it was also choppy from the weather there. that cooler though was later found on the new jersey side of the delaware river. now we also heard that a chopper last night may have spotted that sail boat but it was too dark and dangerous to send a boat back out again. again that search is expected to resume this morning, once it gets light out. that is latest from the north east, jen bernstein for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". officials are investigating whether a lightening strike may have

caused this house fire in montgomery township. it might not be the only casualty of strong storms that moved across our area. an apartment complex in south jersey suffered the same fate. now that is where we will fine "eyewitness news" reporter nicole brewer who joins us live from voorhees, camden count which more, nicole, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you,er contact this complex where i'm standing is call the club at main street and neighbors believe that lightening is also to blame for the extensive damage that you can see here behind me, damage that led to 17 units displaced just last night. similar scene in montgomery county and one that happened in a flash. >> this cell phone video shows us a fast moving fire on raven hallow drive-in montgomery county, one neighbor say started with the flash of lightening around 7:30 wednesday night. >> we ran over the neighbor's house, started knocking on the door. she came running out of the side door already on the phone

calling fire department. >> reporter: eyewitnesses say they first saw lightening and then smoke and fire. it was just minutes before that roof went up in flames. >> we have extensive damage on the roof area most of the roofies gone. second floor has extensive damage but the the first floor, with the exception of water, from the fire fighting operation is in tack. >> reporter: in voorhees, new jersey a similar story. >> scary, very scary. >> reporter: fire displaced 17 units this complex on the 2500 block of berwyn court. >> i heard an explosion like noise and then i saw embers flying so i believe it was lightening. >> reporter: no serious injuries were reported but one fire fighter was taken to virtua hospital fore val ways. back here live, once again, 17 units displaced so lots of residents affected here in voorhees, new jersey. we also mentioned that montgomery county fire we are told the american red cross

ace cyst continuing a family of four affect and red paw is assisting with their dog. for now we are live from from voorhees, new jersey, nicole brewer, for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". breaking news right now arthur is now a category one hurricane, taking aim on parts of the east coast. check out the waves crashing on the beach in north caroline, hurricane warnings are in effect and now mandatory evacuation order is in place for the island. we will check with the reporter on the out are banks coming up in just a few minutes and we will do it live, erika. 5:07. volunteer hodge i coach is waking up in jail this morning accused of sexually abusing a teenage girl he met through a social media app. this is 42 year-old michael dougherty from levittown, bucks county. court document reveal he met 16 year-old victim on line using the app whisper. police say the father of two brought the girl to the lincoln motel on route one, late sunday night.

>> she thought that he was going to help her runaway and, of course, she showed signs of the teenage inner trouble and he took advantage of that. he manipulated that, got her in the hotel room and then assaulted her. >> police say dougherty recorded the attack with his cell phone. he has since lost his new coaching job. the senators youth hockey team said he never made any contact with minors. this melbourne music teacher will be in court to face sex abuse charges. anton fauxman is accused of abuse several young students. the 44 year-old taught lessons at the malvern school of music and prosecutors say he also showed explicit pictures to some of the children. welshing philadelphia may soon place a cigarette tax on smoke tours help fun the cities cash strapped public school system. pennsylvania's house approved a 2-dollar tax on every pack have of cigarettes sold in the city. without the money the school district says schools would not be fit to open this fall. philadelphia's mayor michael

a deputy in florida gets taken for the ride of his life. watch here as we have dash cam video from outside orlando. that deputy was trying to hand cuff the driver for driving with the suspended license, when that happens he hits the gas and takes off with the door still opened. the deputy grabs the steering wheel and held on for dear life and jumped up there. driver finally stops about 40 yards away and was quickly arrested. how about this mess left behind when part of the brooklyn bridge came crumbling down. five people were hurt when bricks collapsed from the underpass. all of the injuries are minor. the fire department is trying

we're in the clear. this looks very familiar, as much as it did yesterday with thunderstorms and showers firing up back toward the great lakes region, we will see that all migrate east and back comes in advance of the passage of the next cold front this cold front is hooking us up though, leaving with us no major worries when it comes to arthur because it will keep that storm out to sea but we will be dealing with impacts from this. a combination of the arthur's moisture and that cold front bringing in localized dropping, not the severe thunderstorm. rain amounts as much as 3 inches, locally higher amounts but flash flood watch in effect for the entire region at 8:00 a.m. today and lasting us throughout the morning hours of tomorrow. meanwhile outside beach patrol, hazy start to the day. no a lot of unshine here. but we are seeing a lull in the forecast, for at least the time being, but eventually more showers, thunderstorms will fire up, more widespread then yesterday but we will have the time and sunshine to heat you up to 90.

that is why we're concerned about severe weather potential here today. fourth of july isn't horrible but not ideal either. you will see it clear out, but it happens later, closer to the shore you get but at least we will clear out for weekend and saturday and sunday look awesome. >> thursday 5:15. we will begin with a shut down of 476, lets go outside to a live look at the blue route, all southbound lanes are closed right now at exit number three, for media swarthmore. what started out as probably an accident and then turns into a vehicle fire, this car actually is facing the opposite direction. this is the southbound side of 476, heading in to exit number three for media swarthmore. fire fighters are on the scene and you cane smoke coming from the vehicle there, but all southbound lanes are closed right the now, this will cause a quick delay for anyone trying to head south on the blue route trying to get down towards philadelphia

flyersaptain claude giroux is not expected to face criminal charges after reportly spending a night in the canadian jail. the ottawa senators says the giroux was arrested for grabbing a police officers buttocks. newspaper says it happened outside a bar and alcohol could have been involved. giroux lives in ottawa in the off season. flyers general manager ron hextall released this statement. we are aware of reports surrounding claude giroux. until we have more information we will withhold making any further comment. all-star voting ends at 11:59 and phillies chase utley hold a big lead over other

katie? >> as we have been reporting arthur has been upgraded within the last half an hour to a category one hurricane and continues to make its trek north eventually messing with our forecast as well as we look forward to the holiday weekend. we want to give you a sense what is to come here. lets start off with another view of tropical storm arthur now upgraded to a hurricane and basically making it beeline towards the carolinas. as it pertains to the delaware valley we have flash flood watches as we draw on the tropical moisture associated with arthur, gusty wind near the shore, high surf, dangerous rip currents to contend w if you hit the

beach, we highly advice you listen to the life guards when it comes to this storm. more showers and storms picking up to day. some of which will bring in downpours and we could be dealing with severe weather as well. very active time for us here in the delaware valley. this storm is making an impact on fourth of july vacation plans in the carolinas. cbs news correspondent craig boswell joins us live in nags head, north carolina where tourist are concerned that arthur will make this holiday weekend a wash out, good morning, craig. >> reporter: katie, good morning to you. a hot, humid morning here certainly ahead of hurricane arthur, that is plotting its way up the eastern seaboard making its way towards us here in nags head north carolina. as you mentioned a hot tourist destination, particularly during july but especially on the week of fourth of july. about 250,000 people streaming into these barrier island. they booked these hotels and homes for a week, we spoke with so many people, who were

planning to ride out the storm and then a number of people who have never been in the hurricane had small children here decided they were going to get out of the way. in fact about 30, 25 minutes or so ago, a mandatory evacuation went into effect for residents and families, and visitors along hat rust island, about a hour south of where we are standing right now. so those folks have been advised to get the out, in one allowed back into hat rust island. there are 25 coastal counties under that emergency weather advisory, it was interesting, katie late yesterday as that hurricane warning went up we were talking to folks at a restaurant and everyone's cell phones and smart phones were going off. the look on some peoples facees were like okay i guess we should take this more seriously and certainly as this day wears on, a lot more folks will be paying a lot more attention and really watching as the sun will begin to come up here in just a few
