1:00 a.m. it was upgraded, arthur, to category two, yesterday. however, we've also got cold front that's crossing, so, a lot of weather-related issues. meantime here is quick look at where the tropical storm and hurricane warnings continue at this hour. it is generally just clipping the virginia coastline, down specially through north carolina. here is a quick check on storm scan3 for you here, little snapshot of the radar, picture over the last really as we stand right now, still dealing with pretty heavy downpours back through our western suburbs, lehigh valley, pocono region, back edge of this however is now visible back through central, western pa, especially, so really just matter of time before this starts to get out of here, and we can expect to end up with some clearing skies, and a breeze really just being the only issue at that point. 72 degrees is the current temperature, nice and mild, see the damp pavement off in the distance there on the roadway outside whitt fields elementary school in reading, neck nickly west lawn, pa, i want to walk you quickly through future weather. take a

look, back edge of the clouds, effort, right? but we are watching this move through very slowly. there is arthur. glancing blow thank goodness, but will kick in the surf and rip current issue for us. then we gradually clear out. by 9:00 p.m. a lot of fireworks were supposed to happen depending on when they may or may not, but the wet weather is gone at that point. your headed to the beach today, heads up, careful, guys, rain out there this morning, it is humid, it is windy as the day progresses, high expected to reach 77. dangerous day for rip current and surf issues. so as we say, respect the lifeguards. respect what they have to say. they know best. and if it is too dangerous, just stay on dry land. not the best beach day we've ever seen anyway. erika, back to you. >> thank you, katie. now as katie mentioned that first hurricane of the atlantic season has made landfall in north carolina on the coast. arthur packing heavy wind, rain, even knocking out power. it is also forced thousands of vacationers to scrap their july 4th holiday plans. our team coverage begins now with susan macinnis, live from nags head.

susan, good morning. >> reporter: erika, good morning, things have calmed down here over just the last few minutes, winds speeds of 80, 90, over 100 miles that hour that we've been tracking on handy winds speed reader have calmed down, only temporarily, not soul can be fawn here in nags head, kill devil hills only police and media. some people are riding out this storm in their hotel rooms, in their homes, but thousands every people heeded the warnings, yesterday and wednesday, and they pack up their things and got out of the way. police in vare county north carolina told people here to stay indoors, as hurricane arthur came ashore thursday night. dumping heavy rain, and unleashing 100-mile per hour winds. the first named storm of the season made landfall as a category two storm before midnight near the southern end of the state's outer banks. ahead of the storm, north carolina governor put more than two dozen counties under

states of emergency. >> we really might not know how extensive the damage might be until mid-morning, or even later. >> arthur is pounding the north carolina coastline, and watching out july -- washing out july 4th holiday plans and vacationers here, many of whom evacuated, some did stay to ride out the storm. police went door-to-door to take note of who stayed behind. but harry and his family vacationing in nags head from north virginia decided to pack it in. >> we felt -- we asked him, he said mandatory evacuation, so we decided to leave little earl. >> i impact felt far beyond north carolina boston moved its independence fest tifts tiff tis up a day, putting on concert and fireworks show last night. arthur expected to arrive there today as weaker storm, as it continues its path northward. >> now, we are already hearing about tens of thousands of power outages, in just north

carolina alone. the governor said this is the kind of storm that can do significant damage to structures and flooding because of the storm surge, also big worries about the roads here. a lot of these barrier islands, very vulnerable, one road going into the mainland, a lot of wore business people sticking it out there, that they will be block from the mainland. governor says we will be able to access the damage when the sun's up. >> be safe, talk to you in a little bit. arthur is also stirring up the surround in our area as well. >> beach-goers down the shore are urged to use caution if they do venture out into the water. here, not exactly your picture perfect beach day. you can see a loft haze here. and the ocean very, verb loud. i can tell you, i can't see the ocean, but i can absolutely hear it right now. ocean city beach patrol wants people to have fun today. but if you are going to go into the water you need to follow strict rules. we have video from yesterday to show you. yesterday the ocean city beach patrol told us we could be looking at 6-foot swells, and plenty of rip currents. lifeguards will be on alert if people want to go in the water today even though not expected to be again your picture perfect beach day. you want to stay by a lifeguard. here is some of the restrictions. >> we're not allowing any type of raft in at all. then trying to keep everyone aways deep water. we have extended hours here in ocean city until 10:00 o'clock. so we will always have some people on the most crowded beaches. >> reporter: we do know also that the fireworks display here in ocean city was postponed until saturday

pollen report. once again, levels low today, tomorrow, today, sunday, monday, high pressure will be building in, pollen to settle in. but just not that much to speak of at this point. storm scan3, okay, so, you can see the leading edge right now, of what arthur has got going for it, right? here is your cold front. almost like it is a yo-yo pulling up the actual, you know, plastic part of the yo-yo on the string, which is the cold front. so, once that yo-yo pulls, you know, up into it, it will all shove everything out to sea, and we will be left with a clearing sky. so, little bit of analogy for you there, but still left with some additional pockets, of locally heavy rain, perhaps some thunderstorms. some of which could still proof locally gusty. but i think severe weather threat basically over at this point. we look ahead to temperatures right now into the 70s, eventually getting up to the lower 80s, today, and that winds is already starting to turn more northwesterly. so already starting to feel some relief out there, in

terms of the worse of that humidity. you're headed out to the poconos, fireworks displays up that way. again the breeze is kicking in there. mid to upper 70s expected when beautiful weather on both saturday and sunday and perhaps you have some barbeque plans, just going up to the lake, whatever it might be, at the shore, keep in mind, race -- rip current, rough surf the problem, but good full weekend weather coming up. by monday starting to heat back up, start to feel the humidity, as well. ukee, back to you. >> thank you, here is a look at today's headlines on your fourth of july. hurricane arthur made landfall in the outer banks yesterday. today it could impact independence play plans along the coast, arthur expected to weaken as it heads north. >> ocean sit hurricane churned up the sea, but the jersey shore not expected to take a direct hit. beach patrols are making sure everyone knows the rules and stay safe. >> philadelphia police are investigating a double shooting in frankford that left one man and another man wounded. it happened on the 5200 block of akron street around midnight. so far police have made no

surrendered to police. investigators were looking for william, after his 83 year old mother, andrea, was found in the freezer north lee street tuesday. he allegedly told a family member he put his mother's body if the freezer after she died in a fall. pair of jewel thieves want in the cape may, new jersey, apparently strike again, this time in the baltimore area. police say this is video of robert antoin wetters and robin tracey nelson, swiping $100,000 worth of rings from art son's al kobak in may, again, this is in cape may. the suspects distract the store employees, they grab the gullery the pair also wanted for jewelry heist in south carolina, michigan, ohio and pennsylvania. will he spend the night in jail. now speaking out. still ahead. we'll tell you what flyers star claude giroux is saying about that unusual arrest. >> semi finals today in the world cup, fortune telling turtle is predicting the winner.

>> we will be tracking wet weather, making for some very interesting camera views. we start to see the clouds viewment look at this. this is a view of atlantic is he city. i'm telling you, i don't think i've ever seen anything like. >> this watching this in hd, maybe see it better, but top portion of your screen, there is ever so little bit after sliver of sunshine, it is really creepy looking right now, but we've got that sort of purple continuing to the sky, as well. going to another camera, as well, we have the tropical moisture in play, so a lot of fog settling in at the shore points. live look outside beach patrol headquarters in margate, but you're not going to get too

much sun initially. currently visibility, here's where we stands, not too bad. but at the shore, obviously little worse than it is perhaps further inland, say, for example, in philadelphia. even wack toward lancaster, little fog issue down to 2.6 visibility at the moment. you have also had some rain to deal with in the last hour. boy, arthur really started to churn here, it has since gathered category two strength. it did move a bit further inland than originally anticipated. so it did officially make landfall. but it is not going to make landfall here. rather, we just get the indirect impact of additional rain, some of which could lead to minor flashflooding, do have flashflood watches until in effect until noon. then it will ramp up speed, start to lose its strength and get out of here. so eventually start to clear skies out for you. that does bode real well for the weekend, we'll have some wind issues later today possibly even into tomorrow. not to mention some rough surf and wind current. so please heed the advisories, warnings, that the lifeguards give you, if you are going to the shore. but the weekend looks beautiful.

monday, starts to heat up with more sun. ukee, back to you. >> thanks, katie, talking sports right now. flyers captain claude giroux says he is sorry after his arrest and a night in jail. he will not face charges. ottawa, ontario authorities, claude giroux, off to jail after he inapropriately grabbed a police officer during canada celebrations north of the border. flyers say they'll handle the issue internally. giroux released a statement saying in part i regret my actions on canada day anacine sewerly apologize to my fans, teammates, and the philadelphia flyers organization for my misguided attempt at humor. well, the phillies are playing in pittsburgh tonight with the first pitch from pnc park coming at 5:05 this afternoon. the phillies use their late inning lightning to undo the marlins in miami last night. jimmy rollins, grounder drives in tony gywnn, jr. to tie the game at four. phillies were not finished.
