>> right now at 11:00 o'clock an elderly man the victim of a home invasion in the middle of the afternoon and police say this is not an isolated incident. good evening everyone. i'm natasha brown. police are warning about group of criminals who they say is preying on the vulnerable. this happened this afternoon in the 600 block of east comely street in lawn crest. elizabeth hur is live at northeast detectives with the story. liz. >> reporter: natasha, we've this before and police say the exam hasn't changed. they are going around offering to fix broken pipes or even

asking about rooms for rent but what's new here police say this group is traveling with a child all the while targeting the elderly. for his protection, we are not identifying the 68 year old victim of vietnam war veteran who was unable to speak after suffering a stroke. >> people who prey on disable get no pity from me. knock on my door. >> reporter: as a relative this man expressed outrage and concern. >> from what i understand he's not the first and he probably won't be the last till they're caught. >> reporter: after learning the 68 year old is the second victim to be targeted in just three days. >> i couldn't pinpoint but -- >> the culprit according to eyewitnesses and police -- >> a guy in his early 40s. slightly bald. >> reporter: group of four including a child traveling in a white mini van. >> there was a little baby. she had every bit of about three. he was asking about the apartment for rent behind me.

report roar police say the latest incident happened sunday afternoon in the 600 block of comly street three days earlier police say another disabled man in his 80s was victimized just two blocks away on sangor street. >> upsetting. when things like that happen, it's sad because that man doesn't bother nobody much stays to hisself. stays in his house. you know he obviously as a little bit of issues of it's like the man is trying to help himself but you're taking from him. >> reporter: and police say taken from the home, cash, and based on their mo and so far the suspects' description police believe the same group is responsible for both of the crimes so far and they don't want to hear from a victim number three. that is why police say they want this story out there and residents in this area to bewa beware. that is the very latest from here live in northeast philadelphia, i'm elizabeth hur cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> all right. liz, thank you very much. after four children are killed in a fire, a community

we're down into the lower 70s for the suburbs. quakertown, doylestown, mt. holly, new jersey, all in the low 70s this hour. so temperatures tomorrow morning when you wake up are going to be comfortable in the 60s but the dew point temperatures still very low. this measures how much humidity is in the atmosphere we're still talking about 50s. just a few clouds, passing by, through the overnight hours. again lows to night 60s to around 70 degrees. but then we crank up the hee this week coming up in the full forecast we'll talk about that heat and humidity and the next chance for some showers and storms and of course you can stay ahead of the forecast any time just download the new cbs-3 weather app you can track radar, get severe weather alerts. it's coming soon to android. natasha, back over to you. >> justin, thank you. >> it may not be the fourth of july. but it sure looks like it. atlantic city was among the towns that postponed fireworks until tonight. trying to escape the rain. owners. >> the best things come to those had wait as the old saying goes and sunday night that meant fourth of july fireworks in atlantic city. they were postponed friday night after hurricane arthur made for rough seas making it impossible to launch the fireworks from their bases on ocean barges. but the crowd sunday night were big ♪ >> reporter: -- the crowds during the day were equally as impressive. late afternoon sunshine, swept over a crowded boardwalk. >> i was surprised to see a lot of people out here. >> reporter: whom who came just for the fireworks. after a weekend that was a bit of a washout. >> that's why we came over here with the whole family try to have a nice time. peak up for all the time we had rain. >> reporter: the mendel came down from boston after wet weekend in new england. >> one of the worst fourth of julys in a whole time weather wise. >> while they felt for those who missed out the show on friday they're feeling lucky they get to catch a glimpse. >> there were disappointed people down here friday night.

driving towards him. the officer fired his own weapon strikinstriking the windshield. philadelphia police did catch up with the suspect a few blocks away and they took him into custody right away. >> steven tri beck of felton, delaware, is under arrest accused of attacking miss girl forty seven them searched for him for hours after his girlfriend called and in 11 when a 29 year old showed back up near his home, he was arrested. he remains jailed unable to make. >> no charges filed against a driver who struck a two year old no kensington just before 4:00 p.m. on the 1800 block of east monmouth street. officers took photos of the mini van but the driver was not taken into custody. employees say this was just an accident. the boy is listed in stable condition at saint christopher's hospital for chirp. israeli officials arrested sick jewish suspects in the death avenue palestinian teenager. authorities believe the teenager

tribute to lieutenant gordon bellis. he died after suffering multiple injuries saturday night while searching for possible victims on the 19th floor of that building. the fire started in an air-conditioner electrical cord that had become pinched between a bed frame and a wall. >> the lieutenant went into the apartment to search for life. and did not come out. and by the time his brother firefighters found him it was too late for him. >> two other firefighters suffered minor injuries. two residents were treated at the scene. this is the first line of duty firefighter death in more than two years. now a man in california is attacked by a great white shark and he lives to tell this amazing story. he told cbs news correspondent tara okita his story of survival plus dramatic video of swim mrs. trying to get back to shore. >> reporter: very few have an encounter like this and live to tell the tail. >> i was staring at the shark

face to face looking at his eye balls as he bit into me. >> reporter: the and tire attack took three seconds. >> i had absolutely no time to react. i felt that crunch right into my chest. and that expression with the teeth coming in my ribs. >> reporter: he credits his training as an ocean swimmer to know what he had to do. >> just instinctively i used my right hand to grab its nose and just tried to yank it off of me and then once i got that shark off it disappeared right away. i'm screaming at the top of my lungs and you could hear me just in salute terror screaming for my life. >> reporter: word spread quick toll those still swimming. >> hey, get out of the water? shark! get out of the water! >> shark! >> reporter: he was pulled to safety then hospitalized for deep cuts in his chest and hand. >> it's crazy how fast something can turn. how your life can just change

instantly. i swam in that water my whole life over 40 years. sharks are not interested in people. this stuff just doesn't happen. >> reporter: but it happened this time because a man fishing off the manhattan beach pier had caught the shark on his line. witnesses say for 40 minutes. >> by the time he cut that line loose, i was in the wrong spot at the wrong time. the shark was agitated and i was the first thing he saw. i know it very easily could have gone the other way. the shark could have pulled me underwater. i could have drowned. >> reporter: he loves the sea. he spent most of his live in the water. but for the moment -- >> i'm to the ready to go in the ocean right now. >> reporter: he's fine being on shore. terry outeat at a, foterry oh, . >> you've never run across any and you're a surfer. if they're there i haven't seen any. >> we should only hope they

steer clear of you justin. great weekend to be in the water. exactly. water got cool but air temperatures very comfortable and we'll actually warm it up over the next few days. back to typical july weather as we head into the work week. and still people hanging down in ocean city right now on the boardwalk. leftover people maybe extending their holiday weekend another day or so. nice night no matter where you are. still very low humidity and check out compared to 24 hours ago we're actually warming it up a little bit. so we're now about three to 14 degrees warmer than we were this time yesterday. still it is very comfortable and the reason because of the south wind starting to bring in that warmer and more humid air mass. 77 degrees at the airport still in philadelphia 70 millville and atlantic city. in allentown you can keep the windows open. humidity level on the low side. south winds continue that will start to bring in that heat and humidity from the deep south. over the next 24 to 48 hours. now the dew point temperature showing this a lot lately but it's been so low.

this measures how many humidity in the air. 59 the current number that's pretty low for summertime. tomorrow we bring it back up into the mid 60s. what does that mean to you? it will start to feel a little bit more steamy and then as we head towards tuesday and wednesday we'll get back to that oppressive feel as the dew point temperatures reach the 70-degree mark. dry on storm scan storm scan3 he dominating our weather a few clouds passing on by a lot of sunshine still in our forecast for monday. if you have outdoor plans tomorrow, looks pretty good. good day to hang out at the pool because we'll warm it up. low 90s for the inland spots. cooler near the water. it's tuesday that's when the humidity really arrives. temperatures well into the 90s. and there will be a chance for afternoon scattered showers and storms as cold front approaches. still hot and humid on wednesday. temperatures again in the low 90 that is front hanging out across the region more shower and storm chances wednesday afternoon. not on all day wash out. if you are outdoors keep your eyes to the sky. quiet day on monday. mostly sunny conditions. hotter. little bit more humidity as we well.

then tuesday you can see the showers and storms developing in the afternoon. a lot of them still to our north and west. not everyone sees it. it will quiet down tuesday night and things refire again wednesday afternoon so typical for summertime. the heat and humidity around. here go the temperatures. um to the lower 90s for inland spots for monday afternoon. some relief on the new jersey shore and delaware beaches. hotter on tuesday. well into the low 90s maybe mid 90s depending on how much sunshine we do see. the forecast tonight, milder but still comfortable partly cloudy, lows for center city near 70 degrees. some 60s in the suburb hotter day on monday, sunshine and clouds back up to around 99 degrees. southwest wind at 10 to 15 miles per hour. it's will be windy at the shore. 82 for the air temperature ocean water in the mid 60s. and that southwest wind will kick up to about 20 miles per hour. here's the extended forecast. lower 90s monday, tuesday and wednesday. and remember it's tuesday afternoon wednesday afternoon best chance for some scattered showers and thunderstorms.
