"eyewitness news" begins with breaking news. gunfire in a bucks county community ends with one person dead and two others wounded. we'll have the details. it is tuesday, july 8th, good morning, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm nicole brewer in for erica this morning. emotionally charged night in southwest philadelphia. neighbors put firefighters on the defensive after a fire that kills four children. >> and a roof collapse in west philadelphia destroys two row homes. how did it happen? we'll bring you to up date. those stories and much more, let's check our forecast. katie is standing by with that in the weather center. >> i think something about a nice pool day? >> totally. >> perks me right up. >> yesterday it got really hot. but wasn't terribly humid. today -- >> more how many schmidt. >> just little bitment

starting to creep up on us. building up the moisture content. we do have approaching frontal boundariment looks like it will hole off here before firing up any thunderstorms, we actually did have lil rounds of wet weather that rolled through. now, quickly, making its exit and retreat out to up-state or new england. as it continues its retreat it, means we'll start off with sunshine, heat up easily, see fresh rounds of some additional thunderstorms and showers firing up. they will and bit more widespread here locally, last night it was more of the poconos and the upper lehigh valley that had to deal with it. so tracking storms, talking more temperatures, as we expect this to be day two of the latest heatwave. nicole, back to you. >> thank you, we begin this breaking news in bristol bucks county, one man dead, two others hurt, after overnight shooting on winter drive. >> let's get you right out to "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry with details. syma, what have you learned? >> that's right, ukee, police here on the scene investigating triple shooting,

this happened little before 1:00 this morning. we know one man is dead, two others injured, it happened inside of a house on the 900 block of windsor road. when police arrived they found a man dead inside, two others injured. now, those injured were taken to the hospital. one man had been shot in the head, another, victim, shot in the back. now, police say, one of the victims managed to run out of the house and run into neighbor's house, and that's where they called 911. all three of the victims are in their mid 20's, to early 30's. neighbors say, this is a quiet street, but they tell police, the home had been, quote, a problem area. now, although nobody reportedly heard gunshots early this morning. >> it was very quiet. we had no reports of anything. so, in fact, our first idea that anything was wrong was when one of the victims went to a neighbor's house, at this point, there were no reports of any gunshots in the neighborhood. >> again, police are still

investigating along with officials from the buckets county d.a.'s office. they are waiting for search warrant to go inside. they are also waiting for the coroner's office. right now they have no suspects, and they've not recovered a weapon just yet. again, a triple shooting, one man is dead, two others injured. we're live in bristol township, syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> syma, thank you, 4:33, a check on the forecast, katy? >> good morning, everybody, things are pretty quiet right now. did have lil rounds of showers, thunderstorms, rumble through, right on the edge of our north most counties. generally speaking in philadelphia, and rest of the region as a whole, tended up being beautiful day yesterday. overall pretty quiet night. but did you put the air conditioner on? i bet a lot of us d i actually didn't go with it now paying the price because i am still feeling how hot it was last night, not the most comfortable sleeping night. no problems at the moment, that will change with time. let me explain, we start things off, heading next to storm can three, live look there, and not too much to

speak of at least initially here. wider zoom does show the retreat that far wet weather i mentioned moment ago. off to the west, there is your next frontal boundary, really pretty active here, through missouri, portions of illinois. but some of that will eventually fire up here. so we're once again at least partly in a severe weather threat of t primarily north and western suburbs here today, lehigh valley, knock know region, back through berks and lancaster county, possibility of hail, strond wing -- strong wind, biggest concern. current temperatures, it is warm outside. it was about this warm yesterday. just a now degrees difference. but, the difference now is that the humidity really starting to ramp up on us. even in northeast philly just shy of 08 degrees right now, so really warm start to the morning, no jackets required, obviously, when you are talking mid 90s, we fully expect that this will be day two now of our latest heatwave. pair of eight's, the expected high down the shore, specking more sun than anything that way. up in the poconos, though,

that they had some roving work crews on the southbound side of 95 making your way into the area approaching the vine st. expressway, does seem to be that they have reopened few of those lanes, it was one lane only when i was driving on it, so speed censors have increased but real now volume to worry about right now. still looking pretty good. looking at the speed censors, 55 on 422, 52 on 202, and looking pretty good on 476 and as well as the pa turnpike. spruce street however center city around 60s he is dealing with the partial building clams we had yesterday to be mindful of that. no major problems at the airport or for mass transit. >> tour, thank you. new this morning, philadelphia police are investigating a murder in the city's wynnefield section. it happened late last night on the 1600 block of north wilton street. police say 21 year old man was found shot multiple times while sitting inside a mini-van. there are no suspects in custodiment investigators are check to go see if any surveillance video captured that crime. well, protesters clash with police outside a

southwest philadelphia fire station. >> they are demanding answers for what they call slow response to deadly weekend fire. emotions ran high as hundreds of people gathered outside ladder four and engine 40 on 65th and woodland last night. four small children died in three alarm blaze that destroyed eight homes on nearby gasner street. protesters believe firefighters should have gotten there sooner. >> the fire station is so close, so some of the logistics of getting the call, responding to a fire, and the speed of the fire, so i think people are upset because they feel like those lives should not have been lost. >> those members, they get to see those same kids walk by the station every single day. their hearts are broken. it is no way, no how, these members would not responds in a timely planner to save life. >> city officials say they will meet with members of this community today to share their response time line. ten people are homeless

this morning, after two homes collapsed in the cobbs creek neighborhood. it happened at 06 ' and spruce street. now, both adjacent properties, 0615 and 6017 came crumbling down yesterday morning. no one was injured during that collapse. at least four other homes sustained some damage, and now neighbors are concerned about their homes. >> never in my life. even ten years in the military, never seen this. >> i think they should take a better look at all of these houses on the block to make sure. >> l & i inspectors went door-to-door checking basement walls and foundations and every home in the 6,000 block of spruce street. preliminary reports suggest the party wall between 6015 and 6017 gave way. well, investigators are trying to pinpoint what caused a fire at a law offers on long beach island. the flames broke out at the office cents of shackle ton and hazleton, on long beach avenue and east 21st in ship bottom. fire appears toss have started on the upper near. no one was hurt. >> happening today

pennsylvania state senate is said to vote on proposed cigarette tax, which would bring money into the cash strapped philadelphia school district. mayor mike nutter and other lawmakers pushed for its passage. if the senate okayed the bill, and governor tom corbett signs it, philadelphia smokers will pay extra $2 per pack. that would generate some $83 million in revenue each year. mayor nutter is promising full review of friday night's welcome america concert. performances with nicki minaj, ed sheeran and others were peppered with offensive language. the mayor says the concert organizers are contractually obligate today make the concert family safe. he says that the city will try to make next year's concert more g-rated. >> and much more to cover on cbs-3 "eyewitness news", as influx of children crosses the us border from mexico, president obama has a plan to do something about it. >> and in sports, phillies common strong as the general manager enters changes ahead.

fred owe became a plans to ask congress for more than $2 billion in emergency spend to go deal with the border crisis. unaccompanied my grant children from central america have been arriving in the u.s. by the thousands. now, the request will focus on more money for immigration judges, detention facilities, legal aid, all to address what the administration squawls humanitarian crisis. and, israel launches an offensive against the gaza strip to yell rocket attacks threatening southern israel. this comes as president obama makes an appeal to israelis and palestinians to ends the violence. the president calls the current situation a dangerous moment. and, civil libertarians want the highway conduct to do an investigation into this beating t shoves an officers repeatedly beating a woman on the side after los angeles freeway. says the woman walking on the freeway endangering herself

pennsylvania, little wider zoom shows generally things have cleared out at this point, problem is, we're not in the clear, so to speak, as we look forward in the forecast, because there is a storm system, namely, cold front, pretty potent cold front, rumbling on through, bringing through fresh round of potentially strong or severe thunderstorms. so basically looks like mainly north and west, you see the worse of the stormy weather firing up here today. lehigh valley, pocono region, berks, lancaster county, actually severe weather threat zone. could linger, survive, we'll have to keep an eye on, that downpours, gusty winds, frequent lightning looking like the biggest concerns, can't rule out small size hail. will be one of those things download the free app there, monitor the radar, late day thunderstorm around in the city but mainly north and west, at least, initially, so you will get some ghoul pool time in in you want to do that. today good excuse for t showers and storms will still be out there later tonight, kind of scattered in nature, but again we'll have some dots

time for a check of business news. >> jill wagner joins us live this morning from the new york stock exchange, good morning, jill, hearing about gourmet cupcake shop shutting its doors? what can you tell us about that? >> yes, good morning, ukee, crumbs bake shop is closing up shop. the company went public back in 2011 at the height of the gourmet cupcake boom. but it suffered from declining sales, last week crumbs was de-listed from the nasdaq. crumbs is nearly 50 stores, in about ten states, and 165 full-time employees. the company's known for its giant cupcakes, in flavors like cookie dough and girl scout thin mints, love those. >> i don't think the girl scouts are going anywhere, so at least some form of thin mints. >> love those.

4:53. time for traffic and weather together. morning, tore. >> i good morning, everybody. good morning, nicole. if you are traveling out and about, it seems to be that it is a smooth ride. no slow jams to speak of. no volume problems. you do have construction spots, like if you are traveling on 202, approaching the area of the schuylkill expressway, seems that we have a renmant of an overnight construction vehicle, over to the shoulder, but again, no major delays are we dealing with at all. vine st. expressway free, clear, for anyone traveling at this hour, between the schuylkill and 95, so, really, center city beautiful. take a look at your western suburbs, speed censors are average. looking pretty good. fifty-five if you are traveling on 422, also 476, no major problems around the mid-county toll plaza, northeast extension, 54 is also what you are traveling on 202. if you are headed on the pa turnpike, however, eastbound, between ft. washington and bensalem, we do have overnight construction, be minds full of the guys and gals in the hard hats. no delays for mass transitment

looks like we are going to be sweating things out today. right, katy? >> that's one way of putting for sure. it will get steamy out there. in fact, it already is really starting to see that dew point level start to climb. and as a result it, will feel even hotter than the thermometer reads here. now, we start things off with a wider zoom on storm scan3, off to the west, what i want you to focus on in terms every wet weather. that's eventually going to be frontal boundary that heads our way. so we will start to see showers, storms, ee runlet g three places like reading, west lawn, pennsylvania, where we take you live neighborhood network. quiet at the moment with the very light southerly flow. 78 degrees, though, look at the wind direction. little breezy at the shore, but, it is all coming out of the south, or west, so, it is a warm push, a warm flow of air here today. and that will also help fuel the moisture source for us here, for any of the storms to develop later on today. specially though north and west of the city.
