4:44 am
forecast, we will get sunshine, couple thunderstorms, not a huge deal. it is not a severe weather threat here today. we will be dodging wet weather out there and it is all because of the one frontal boundary. it is not wanting to get out of here. it does mean that i have to keep throwing in the potential for showers and storms. terribly widespread, wash out, no. we will be seeing some sunshine out there, but problem is you can see already moisture nearby, thankfully, basically out of our hair looking at storm scan three with that tri-state sweep and put things in motion here next. you can see that there is a little bit of the back edge to all this well off to the northwest, you can zoom it all out. it is obvious where this frontal boundary is located, very chris california clear cut between even just the cloud cover and where it starts to clear out. tell you what, if you go out to the north and west poconos region we are looking at nice weather here today but closer toward the new jersey shore or down towards delaware, that is where you'll deal with more
4:45 am
humidity and more in the way of the potential for showers and storms. right now though win is very calm in the poconos, look at how much cooler, 58 degrees, clear skies, temperatures bottomed out here but we are in the mid 70's up towards airport, ac and 73 right now and wind is starting to shift a little bit here out of the west. meanwhile here's your area dew points, is there a decent discrepancy here. almost like this cold front is locked in right over our area when you are dealing with the dew point of 56 in mount pocono it is a nice dry air mass, still 68 in philadelphia which means it the is a touch muggy and when you are in the 70's throughout southern new jersey, central southern delaware, it is steamy outside but at least we don't have sunshine to help heat things up too badly at this point. we will see it as day progresses. late day shower or thunderstorm in the cards so dodge ago this here and there, still in the evening and then skies should clear. we will drop down to 70 degrees. over course of time,
4:46 am
temperatures somewhat seasonal friday, saturday, sunday. saturday will be the nicest day in the forecast before our next round of showers and storms start to move in and that will happen as early as late day on sunday. ukee, back to you. in sports, don't look now but phillies go for a sweep in milwaukee today, phillies and brewers in afternoon baseball, first pitch 2:10 p.m. at miller park. phillies all-star chase utley hit his second home run in three games yesterday and phillies jumped out to a one to nothing lead. lets go to the sixth inning with j roll, jimmy rollins hit a two run shot to break a one-one tie to give phillies a lead they would not lose. roberto hernandez pitched eight strong innings and phillies win this one your final score, four-one. sixers continue their summer league schedule saturday against golden state warriors in orlando. the guys representing sixers are three-one, playing well. nerlens noel had five blocks
4:47 am
against brooklyn nets summertime. the little guy continues to come up big. he had a game high 24 points. noel had 14 and nine rebounds. sixers beat the nets 92-86. playing well. having fun too. still ahead on "eyewitness news", relief at the gas pump, hey, may be coming soon. >> we can hope. >> i know. >> but first here's what is coming up tonight on cbs-3.
4:48 am
4:49 am

4:50 am
and u.s. petroleum output is on the rise. this comes after prices over the july 4th holiday were some of the highest for that time of the year since 20 # on eight. in the philadelphia area prices average $3.75 a gallon which is a bit higher than national average. hopefully they will come down. >> gas prices cooling off a bit and the tallest water slide ever is opened for business, um. >> reporter: yes, that is right, the the world's tallest water slide finally opens today in kansas city, it is 168 feet high, that is taller than niagara falls. >> wow. >> riders have to walk up 264 steps to get to the top, before they can take the plunge, and then they slide down in rub are rafts at speeds of 70 miles per hour. this ride is called, verrook which means insane in german. does that interest you guys, ukee and erika.

4:54 am
northeast extension, no major delays. look at the vine street expressway, talk about clear, heading west or eastbound this shot around eighth street no delays at all from river to river. lots of good news this morning. fifty's is what we are averaging on all of our roadways on the schuylkill, 476, i-95, traveling 55, even through construction zones but we are waiting for sun to come up and rush to come in. we have a few closures because of water main breaks. one knight road at houston road your best alternate toys take spring garden street and other is red ambler drive closed at wisteria lane and then take spring mill road. finally, we still do have down poles and wires in the area as a result of the few days ago that storm. this one in new jersey white horse pike at pump branch road so be mindful of that. how are we doing weather-wise, today. >> it does look like it is still unsettled out there, torey. good morning. we can expect to see showers, a few thunderstorms, once again, and we have a frontal
4:55 am
boundary that does not want to clear out. we are dodging wet weather as day progresses but nothing terribly widespread if you want to be outside, you'll have an opportunity to do it. you can see by looking at this snapshot of storm scan three we can zoom it out there is a frontal boundary nearby and not completely cleared yet. because of that you have to keep the potential for additional instability to create more showers or thunderstorms. but there is a distinct back edge to this and clouds are starting to thin out nicely at least through central pennsylvania and up towards poconos region. we will end up with a decent day. down the shore, it is not that awesome but not that terrible either. it is in between here. we will get sunshine, scattered showers or storm. if you hear thunder, always head right inside and seek shelter. meanwhile we will go forward in the forecast and i do think you'll have a couple pretty nice days here as we wrap up the workweek and especially saturday but by sunday our next system bringing in showers and thunderstorms is starting to make its slow
