released from a rehab facility one month after a multi vehicle pileup left him critically injured, good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks so much for joining us. a spokesperson says tracy morgan will continue to recover at home with the very aggressive outpatient program. morgan suffered a broken leg, nose and ribs on june 7th when a wal-mart tractor-trailer slammed into his limo van on the new jersey turnpike. fellow comedian james mcnair was killed. also developing today, morgan is now suing wal-mart. he alleges the retail giant al lloyd truck driver kevin roper to drive despite being awake for more than 24 hours causing him to fall asleep at the wheel. in response to the lawsuit, wal-mart said in a statement "we are deeply sorry that one of our trucks was involved. we know it will take some time to resolve all of the remaining issues as a result of the accident but we're committed to doing the right thing for all involved. ." and it could be another punch in the gut for atlantic city, the fate of trump plaza casino has hundreds of its

employees very much on edge this weekend. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live in atlantic city with the very latest. matt. >> reporter: natasha, and with nothing but more bad news coming out of atlantic city the 2014 is shaping up to be one of the worst years in the resort town's history. if the trump plaza shuts its doors it could take the jobs of over 1,000 casino employees with it. owners of the atlantic city staple tell the associated press that though no final decision has been made yet, they are expecting to close their doors by september 16th. the trump plaza has been one of the boardwalk's worst performing casinos for some time now opened in 1984, its owners have been trying to sell it for years. it took in less than $73 million in gambling revenue last year but enough for last place among all the casinos in ac and this year's revenues are already down 27 percent. the trump plaza hardly stands alone in its trucks. the atlantic club closed earlier this year, the showboat will be closing by

august 31st and revel can follow shortly if it's unable to find a buyer. that means one in four casino workers in atlantic city have already lost their jobs or could lose their jobs in the next few months. and local 54, the casino's workers union here in atlantic city issued a statement saying in part "if the rumors about trump plaza are true that will mean that there are over 7,000 workers under warn act in atlantic city. that is almost one in four casino workers. we are going to do whatever it takes to stand with these workers and fight for the future of south jersey ." no doubt that that is a fight they will be facing over the next couple months certainly it will be an uphill battle. live in atlantic city, matt rivers cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> matt thank you. turning to our weather now it's a steamy start to the weekend. circle neighborhood. detectives say a 51-year-old man was shot in the head by his brother on the 1000 block of levick street. this is happening around 6:30 this morning. the brother is under arrest. no word on what led to this shooting. a motorcyclist is dead after a crash in burlington township new jersey about 1:15 this morning in the 2000 block of route 541. police say the driver of the harley peter price collided with an suv. price was rushed to the hospital where he died. the driver of the suv was not injured. this investigation is continuing. and firefighters rescued two people from a house fire in philadelphia's mantua neighborhood early this morning. two other residents managed to escape the flames. "eyewitness news" on the 3900 block of aspen street just after 2:30. one firefighter suffered a minor hand injury. the cause of the fire is still under investigation at this hour. also developing now, the

united nations security council is calling for a ceasefire between israel and the palestinians. the un is expressing serious concern about the safety of civilians on both sides. cbs news correspondent alfonso van marsh is in israel and tells us the fighting shows no signs of letting up. >> reporter: these demonstrators in jaffa had their protest for peace interrupted by air raid sirens saturday night. the sirens wailed as hamas rockets sailed overhead only to be intercepted by israel's iron dome system as intense fighting entered a fifth day. >> israel to take responsibility and to stop its bombing to gaza. >> reporter: these protesters are in a minority here but 93 say they'll keep demonstrating until the israeli government stops what they call a massacre. earlier militants issued a televised warning threatening an attack on tel aviv

9:00 p.m. local time. they made good on their promise. israel stopped missiles earlier in the day. the sound of sirens sent people running for cover. the israelis expandsedded their targets claiming militants were hiding rockets. palestinians say their death toll is about 135 since the offensive started with more than 900 injured. the international community is calling for peace. >> security council members called for deescalation of the situation, restoration of calm and restitution. >> reporter: but the fighting shows no signs of stopping. the israeli military warned residents of northern gaza to evacuate for their own safety. alfonso van marsh for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> secretary of state john kerry is in afghanistan. he met with the two candidates who are disputing the results of the country's presidential election. they're agreeing to an internationally supervised

authorities say numerous lightning strikes hit the rocky mountain national park area. officials say the hikers were apparently at a high point of the park when they were struck. three of the victims remain hospitalized, the other four have been released. and the last surviving member of the punk bands the ramons has died. tommy ramon died on friday night at his home in queens new york. he was 65 and had been in hospice care following treatment for cancer. tommy ramon was the drummer in the ramons which he cofounded back in 1974. the group influenced a generation of rockers and their hit song i want to be sedated and blitz creek bluff earned them an induction in the rock and roll hall of fame in 2002. warning for swimmers at new jersey's largest lake. there is a very unwanted guest in the water. listen to this. a boa constrictor has been spotted at least a dozen times around lake hopatcong. the 15 to 20-foot snake once even briefly slithered into a local boathouse.

animal control officials say people need to be very cautious. >> what we're afraid of is the animals, small dogs, cats, raccoons and i would advise people not to put their baby in the lake. a snake this size, it probably can swim about 25 miles an hour. >> my goodness. officials do believe the snake was once a pet and was released into the lake. boa constrictors are not poisonous but they can squeeze a person to death. well, volunteers now working on the latest phase of the strawberry mansion community garden project, "eyewitness news" at 32nd and ridge this afternoon. volunteers added 30 raised beds to the garden. there are now a total of 70. the community and strawberry mansion high school culinary arts program share the garden. very nice. and if you want to add a furry friend to your family, this weekends it is the perfect time to do it. cbs3 at the pennsylvania spca's peace and love block

weekend for folks here in the philadelphia region but it's those out liars, the western suburbs, the northern suburbs especially up towards the poconos, you could still see that spotty shower. let's go to one of the cameras where a shower did rumble through. it was a strong thunderstorm. you can see the leftover parking lot, the dampness left behind here that helped cool things down outside whitfield elementary school. back down into the lower 80's. you were in the upper 80's before that storm rolled in. what a great beach day. outside beach patrol headquarters lots of folks making the most of a gorgeous day at the shore and in margate and up and down the area breaches we had a great day. here's some of that activity still out there. we take you to a much wider zoom though. you may have heard the rumblings about this big pattern change coming our way. a series of front starting to drop in here and you can see the other one still pent up back over canada. both of those are basically going to control our weather for the next few days. we don't see as much of a drop in the thermometer but we see the potential for two straight days of severe weather. monday would be the next shot

for it. we're already in a slight risk zone. the storm prediction send has gotten ahead of themselves on this one. potential for downpours and small sized hail and damaging wind monday maybe frequent lightning. here's where we stand right now. we're still in the 80's out there. expecting temperatures to drpa back into the 60's, lower 60's even 50's back through some of those northern suburbs and certainly back through the midwestern united states it will get a lot cooler than here. as we take a look at the trough tropics things are quiet at the moment over the atlantic ocean. next two days don't worry about any tropical activity. we're looking good. tonight also looking pretty good here on dry land, we'll stay that, dry in most location as we dip it down to 70 degrees with a couple of clouds overhead. tomorrow likely starts with sun everywhere but eventually we'll start to see a few showers or thunderstorms popping up here and there. shooting for a pair of eight's for the daytime high.

seasonable, just a smidge above it by 1 degree and we do flirt with 90. we'll get there on monday and flirt with it on tuesday. those are the stormiest days of the pack. temperatures take a modest hit. only in the mid 80's wednesday, thursday friday. not as quite as much of a drop as some of our neighbors in the midwest but we should start to clear out by wednesday morning. maybe a lingering shower here and there. it's not even some steady rain especially at the shore points but it did bode well beyond the early week. i would say second half of wednesday we should be in the clear and it's looking a lot nicer to wrap up the week. >> thank you so much. rob ellis is here with sports tonight. >> yeah, natasha just when the phillies season appeared over and the only curiosity would be what players will be traded. something happened. they start d to win. last night's win over the nats with two games remaining before the all-star break there's some optimism that this season could be salvaged. here's the skipper on the task

>> ♪ >> welcome back everyone. some of the area's finest firefighters face off for some very friendly competition. the montgomery county water battle returned to towamencin montgomery county today. several hundred volunteer firefighters from at least 14 different departments competed in events like a tug-of-war and the barrel on a wire. the challenges force the firefighters to use the skills they've learned during training. >> this camaraderie with the fire companies, everybody gets together, we fight fires together, you know, so you might as well do something, have fun together. >> the water battle has roots that date back to the nation's very first fire department that began here in philadelphia in the 17 hundreds. ben franklin used water battle competitions to train firefighters. interesting. the mural arts program dedicates its latest masterpiece in philadelphia.
