90 degrees, there will be a breeze out of the south and we could be seeing some showers accounts thunderstorms not just later on today but over the next couple of days and we will talk about that, coming up, nicole. >> carol, thank you. we have more on our breaking news we have been following, a new jersey city police officer is shot and killed in the line of duty. police respond to an armed robbery inside a 24 her walgreens pharmacy in new jersey city, new jersey just after midnight. melvin santiago exchanged gunfire with the suspect outside that store. officer santiago was hot in the head by that suspect who used a gun from an arm security guard. the officer was rush to the hospital, where he later died. the suspect was, shot and killed, at the scene. new jersey city mayor steve bullock says the the city suffered a great loss and an investigation is underway. no customers were injured. stay with "eyewitness news" for updates and the very latest information, we will have that information on air and on line.

new this morning philadelphia police are investigating a homicide in the hunting park neighborhood. an unidentified black man was shot in the head there. it happened in the 3600 block of warknock street around 3:00 this morning. he died at the scene. police now searching for that shooting. and also a shooting in camden, new jersey a man was shot multiple times after midnight. police found him wounded in the 1200 block of everette street. he was rush to the hospital from shape until wounds from the gun blast there noise condition of the suspect at this time. septa bus driver is attacked driving route 54 bus. the it happened shortly after 1:00 at 22nd and lehigh avenues. investigators say two black males jumped on the bus, assaulted the driver and jumped off and fled in the white mercedes benz. car had pennsylvania tags and last seen traveling down 23rd street. the the passengers were transported to another bus, after that driver is expect to be okay. happening right the now over 3,000 cyclist are up and at

it, really early this morning and all for a good cause. forty-second annual american cancer society bike-a-thon is now underway, "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is live at the ben franklin bridge where the ride started at 6:30, syma. >> reporter: that is right, nicole the ride started at 6:30. cyclist were gathering 4:45, 5:30, there was an opening ceremonies this took place. we have video of what it looked like when the ride kick off, itself. as you mentioned, nicole, more than 3,000 cyclist on their way right now, taking a 65-mile long journey, to south jersey. they are just traveling in hopes of money to raise money to battle cancer. this is for the american cancer society, forty-second annual event. i spoke with one of the folks participating. he said he has been cycling and being part of this event for the past ten years. >> i mean it is a wonderful

thing to ride with survivors, ride with people who have survived cancer, and come back year after year after year to participate. of course, having being a part of over 3,000 people riding over ben franklin bridge and riding from here through south jersey. it is just an awesome experience. >> reporter: the journey ends in buena, it is again, 65 miles long, a few stops on the way for cyclist to stop and get some rest. there is a few starting spots so follow thanks didn't want to start over here they can start in other locations and make their way to the finish line. they stress this is in the a race, but a ride and they are hoping to raise more than one million-dollar by the end of the day, great, thanks for sharing with us. we appreciate it. atlantic city's luck continues to run out as yet another contact seen he owe will close it doors this year. hundreds of employees will likely learn their fate in the coming days. atlantic city needs to get back on track. >> reporter: atlantic city's cold streakings on with the announce. that the trump plaza, a boardwalk stapel since 1984 will likely close down. its owners toll the associated press that no final decisions have been made, its doors will close september 16th taking over 1,000 jobs with it. >> it is sad, we are coming down for girls weekend and it is a ghost town. >> reporter: the the casino has been struggling for some time now. gambling revenues are down 27 percent last year when it only took in 73 million-dollar. >> it is a shame it is dead. we just came back from the tropical can a but it is not a lot of gambling going on. >> reporter: trump plaza is hardly alone in the struggles. the atlantic club shut down earlier this year, show boat is closing august 31st and revel could soon follow if the buyer is not found. between those four casinos, 7,000 employees have lost their jobs or could lose them real soon. that is nearly one in four of all of the casino workers in atlantic city and it all

messages that they have dictated, and could share that information with advertisers, or even insurers. >> reporter: and almost all of the cars have a black box of sorts that records a lot more than that. >> it gathers information on where you are driving, how fast you are driving, how fast you go around corners, how you use your brakes. some cars can tell because of the seat belt sensors how many people in the car. >> reporter: right now this is information that consumers don't have have access to but third parties often do. aside from advertisers it is commonly used by law enforcement in accident investigations and he says your location and driving data could potentially be subpoenaed for anything from a civil suit, to divorce proceedings, without your knowledge. >> right now we have no way of knowing the what the manufacturer does with the data. >> reporter: privacy advocates are calling for limits on what information vehicles can collect and with whom that information can be shared. they want a feature that enables drivers to opt out every time they turn on their ignition. reporting for three on your

side, i'm jim donovan. new this morning, police believe that a deadly triple shooting in a normally peaceful california community is a result of the landlord/tenant dispute. the it happened in pasadena. thirty-five year-old john smith is accused of killing a woman inside of a home and then shooting two others including a good samaritan trying to help outside. smith opened fire on police when they arrived and then barricaded himself inside that home. police dispatcher convinced smith to give himself up 20 minutes later. lightening strikes twice in the colorado national park, two people killed, 12 others were injury park officials say a woman hiker was killed by lightening and seven others were hurt in her group. lightening struck again yesterday hitting a man in the wheelchair and killing him. a dozen more were hurt by that strike. witnesses say they didn't even see the lightening coming. terrifying situation there. 8:15. lets toss it over to carol,

good morning, carol. >> it under scores how dangerous it is when there is any kind of lightening in the area. >> best to get inside. >> it is that bolt out of the blue sometimes. yes, so when you know you are in that kind of a weather pattern where you get thunderstorms, you really have to weigh whether being out is going to be worth it. so what we have he got this morning though is pretty quiet weather. it may not be the brightest of days. lets turn the lights on in rehoboth beach. thinks the loop over the last six hours. actually, the last three hours, abe then you can see all of the people on the boardwalk brightening up nicely though down in rehoboth beach. we have 71 degrees. it is more cloudy in a number of other location this is morning, but still, it looks beautiful down there. these wind from the south and that will be increasing our humidity as we go through the day. temperatures are increasing, we've got 74 degrees in philadelphia 74 wilmington. seventy-three millville. allentown is 74 degrees. along the shore we have got temperatures in the 70's and we will keep a very humid air

mass over us, over the next couple of days, and storm scan three, i put this on a wide view, a big low pressure system off to the the north. that doesn't help us any. we have a couple of cold front coming. that doesn't help us either because it starts to draw this air up from the south and then it gets increasingly humid and then this cold front comes through to fight it. that is what we will be finding over the next couple of days where we see this cold front coming through. this juicy air. they will duke it out. we are underneath all of that duking it out and that is why we could be find something downpours, hail, gusty wind and that sort of thing. right now a few little light showers. they have than going through the new castle county area otherwise we are watching for clearing, clouds, clearing, clouds, and then as we move through later on this afternoon and especially tonight bee could be dealing with some of those showers, and or a thunderstorm. water temperatures, are you heading to the beach today in i think you won't be displeased with the water temperatures. they are in the 60's. and the 70's. so depending on where you are, you will be able to put your

foot in the water without too much discomfort. otherwise, we have to talk about is what talking about inland. that is that front that is coming on through and with that front coming through we will get the showers, we will get the thunderstorms, and we will keep the humidity on the increase, as well, and that is going to be later on today, tomorrow, and then on, tuesday. so thinks a look at the the severe threat for tomorrow. this is from the storm prediction center in norman, oak a they know about strong storms in norman, oak a they say we could be in line for strong to severe weather on monday, and what would that include? it will include downpours, especially if any of these storms stayed over you, and then possibility of some hail, also some damaging wind out of anything that comes through here. so, some of these lines might bow, you might get multi cell look, so, just a lot to monitor as we go through the day, especially tomorrow, and we will get into the afternoon and evening hours, tomorrow. and then maybe this evening as well. lets time this out. this is our computer model. we will get clouds, clearing, clouds, and we will get that idea. we will see a couple of this,

this afternoon, maybe a couple of these hours breaking out earlier. but otherwise by the time we get to this evening at 6:00 o'clock, this is a look at 9:00 o'clock with these showers and thunderstorms off to the north and west. by the the time we get to midnight we will find them in the area again. by 2:00 a.m. are they still in the area did they clear out to start the dayton monday? only the fill in with a few more of these showers, and storms, as we go through the day on monday. thinks a look at monday afternoon, and this is a look at 7:00 o'clock on monday night and then this is subject to change. you will be finding this changing a lot but also, on tuesday, this is tuesday, afternoon, and we will get these showers and storms. this is tuesday, night, and tuesday, 5:00 p.m. and then clears out of here. weather changes dramatically. but today we've got 89 degrees. we've got the clouds, humidity. it will feel hotter than 89 degrees. keep yourself cool and your pets just as cool as you are. now, thunderstorms, yes, but i think thunderstorm chances are probably better as we head into the night time hours,

notice a drop or two on our lens out there. not a bright start to the day but it is brighter at the shore. you cane people outside enjoying themselves on the boardwalk through ocean city. depending where you are, you have varying levels of lightness. storm scan second three showing a wide view, look to the west, that is what is bothering us over next couple of days including later today but there are clouds in advance of the cold front and low pressure system and couple little showers as we move on well south of our area and now, moving to the east of our area as well. a couple of those sprinkles through you stowee creek and salem and cumberland counties and maybe finding some moving in the philadelphia area, abington, lower providence, you are looking at light showers. so, they are light. we need some rain around here. i know people may not want it on the weekend but this gets past us and then we are looking at sun and clouds today before we get another chance coming in.

licensing to place that fire under control but fortunately, in one was injury. actor comedian tracie morgan has been released from a rehab facility one month after a multi reek will accident left him critically injured. a spokesperson says morgan will continue to recover at home with an aggressive outpatient program. morgan suffered a broken leg, nose and wrist on june haven't when a wal-mart tractor trailer slammed in his limo van on the new jersey turnpike. fellow comedian james mcnair was killed in that crash. we have also learn that morgan is now suing wal-mart. he allege that the retail giant allowed truck driver sketch rope tore drive despite ago wake for more than 24 hours causing him to fall asleep at the wheel. wal-mart has responded this to a statement saying quote we are keeply or that i one of our trucks were involve. it will take sometime to resolve the remaining issues as a result of the accident but we are committed to doing the the right thing for all involved.

police are investigating a family murder in the oxford

circle neighborhood. a 51 year-old man was shot in the head by his brother on the 1,000 block of levick street. this all happen 6:30 saturday morning. that brother is now under arrest. there is in word what led to that shooting. we are hearing from the 15 year-old girl who was the only survivor of the shooting last week near houston. her public appearance comes just three days after the deadly rampage that killed her family. "eyewitness news" anchor natasha brown has the story. >> thank you all for coming and showing your support for me and my family. stay strong. >> reporter: fifteen year-old cassidy stay suffered a skull fracture and lost part of the finger, trying to protect herself from the the gun shots. she's the soul survivor after her ex-uncle broke in her family's home and kill both of perfect parents and all four of her siblings. she's survived by playing dead. on saturday she spoke for the first time since being released from the hospital quoting harry potter. >> happiness can be found even the in the darkest of times,

if only one -- if one only remembers to turn on the lights. i know that my mom, dad, brian, emilie, becca and zach, are in a much better place, and i'll see them again one day. >> reporter: man accused in the family's death is three three-year old ronald lee haskill, who is accused of breaking in the family's home while searching for his ex-wife and then shooting him. haskill collapsed twice this court as six capitol murder charges had to be read. he had to be wheeled out of the courtroom. >> reporter: while police credit stay for avoiding another potential shooting spree, she just wanted to thank the community. >> i'm really thankful for all of the people praying for me and keeping my family in their thoughts, the past couple of days. i would like to thank all of the first responders, nurses and doctors, that have taken care of me, i'm feeling better and i'm on a straightforward path to a full recovery.

thirty-four year-old chris is a prisoner in his own body, just standing up is an ordeal, he cannot feed himself or talk much but his parents say his mind is fine, he understands, everything. >> do you like going outside? >> it is very frustrating, it is very disheartening, it is, we have had our days of tears. >> reporter: for his parents it is heart break to go see chris, had been such a free spirit. he loved to travel and try new restaurants and now he cannot chew or do anything for himself. >> it is very difficult, it is just, every day we look for a little pinch, of hope. >> reporter: it is a demanding job taking care of chris, that is why his dad johnnies working part-time overnight.

>> kyw news radio 106. >> john veilero. >> reporter: johnnies an anchor at kyw news radio and said five years ago his family was living a normal life. chris was healthy, working in landscaping. then one day his finger started twitching. >> then it progress todd his hand, shaking and i knew we had to start seeing doctors. >> reporter: john and his wife took their son to specialists, in one could explain what was happening. >> doctor after doctor, would say, all his tests are fine. one doctor even say, he is a young guy he will to have learn to live witt. >> reporter: his family claims he was misdiagnosed several times first with anxiety and then ms and parkinson's. test for lyme disease was negative but then chris developed infections associated with rocky mountain spotted fever. finally after three years of searching a specialized blood test confirmed lyme caused by a tic bite. >> real public health buys.

west philadelphia. this is all part of the summer of peace campaign. the goal, to reduce crime, education of the children about alternatives to violence right here in the city of philadelphia. welshing volunteers are working on the latest phase of the strawberry mansion community garden project. air and it is probably welcome. the ground is dry. we could use this. we've got temperatures that are mild, mild along the shore, everybody is out enjoying this weather at the shore where we are not finding this precipitation but closer to philadelphia and that is where we are seeing it. we have got temperature 47 in philadelphia 74 wilmington. seventy-three millville. you get the idea, warm. seventy-five in allentown. it is a confidentable start. wasn't so comfortable overnight because of the temperatures being as high as they are but a comfortable start to the day, but it will get increasingly uncomfortable this afternoon as the humidity builds this cold front is coming through and driving up humidity and it will eventually be plowing into this hot and humid air mass and that will be triggering showers and thunderstorms that we will be finding that trend over the next couple of days. so we will continue to watch out for that. storm scan three we are seeing a few showers right now and they are moving toward the philadelphia area.
