homicide detective are taking over the case of the elderly couple discovered dead inside of their strawberry mansion home. sources are telling "eyewitness news" that philadelphia police are questioning two persons of interest. our steve paterson is live at police headquarters with the very latest, steve, what can you tell us. >> this case started as something strange, traj being if in the bizarre and mysterious and now it has shifted as this investigation has shifted in to something that could be criminal. we will show you why when i take to you video from yesterday. police and investigators combing through the home, crime scene investigate thors entering that home on friday, in strawberry mansion, collecting evidence. the elderly couple that was found dead inside of their home 66 year-old el gladys and 79 year-old roofus perry, their young daughter 39 year-old daughter, found them dead in the living room in the early morning hearst of

thursday. that is the the 2500 block of spangler street. now at the original, beginning of the case origins of this case there were no signs of trauma, no forced injury signs or carbon monoxide and as the case progressed it appeared there were no initial signs of foul play but all that has change. the entire nature of the case has changed because sources are telling cbs-3 that homicide detectives are connected to the case, and, involved. not only that but they have two people, in custody being questioned as people of interest. now no arrests have have been made. these two people that are being questioned have in the been officially arrested and although homicide detectives are involved that does not mean that is a homicide case at this point but it is strongly being suggested at this time where police have this investigation. that is latees from police headquarters, i'm steve path are son for cbs-3 "eyewitness news", back to you. meanwhile overseas nine people are dead, 40 more

injured when several boxes collide on the highway. thinks the scene near germany. officials say at least three buses were involve in the wreck 2:00 o'clock in the morning our time. they are working to figure out where this is all coming from. now to the latest on the the plane shot down, quinn schansman is the only american victim in that tragedy n a moment we will hear from his grand fat inner new jersey. but first we will get latest from the investigation from cbs news correspondent craig boswell. >> reporter: remains of malaysia airlines flight 17 and 298 people lie skat's miles along the the country side. the locals are doing what they can to mark the bodies. crash investigators have only begun to arrive to remove the dead and look for evidences specially the plane's flight recorders. >> the location, is a huge concern because it is a major piece of evidence. they are also concern about the perimeter and whether it has been secured to the point

of tampering on looting. >> reporter: president obama believes you u.s. believes that surface to air missle was launched from an area of ukraine controlled by pro russian separatist. satellites pick up the fireball when the plane was hit and u.s. surveillance detected part of the missle's flight path. the president says the blame could reach all the way to the kremlin. >> we know that they are heavily armed and that they are trained and we know that that is not an accident. that is happening because of russian support. >> reporter: the president is calling for a cease-fire, at least one of the passengers was an american citizen, also among the dead, almost 100 experts on hiv and aids. they were headed to an international conference opening up sunday in melbourne australia. in washington craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". we are now learning more about the only known american kill in the flight. he has family in south jersey. that you cannot escape. it is pure fate. >> reporter: while quinn and 297 other souls on board were not able to escape this tragic fate, is there little solace for ronald schansman and his family now left to mourn a young life, cut far too short >> reporter: quinn schansman was set to hit from kuala lumpur in indonesia to meet up with his family for vacation. meantime his grandfather tells thaws all of his family members are now meeting in holland trying to come to grips with an unexplainable loss. in the sat center, natasha brown, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". meanwhile ukrainian americans gathered in logan square to mourn the crash victims and also to call for an even to the fighting in the home land. they held a vigil in the ukrainian flag the on the ben franklin parkway last night.

well, health officials say that mosquitoes in the u.s. are transmitting a virus that has been rapidly spreading in the caribbean. two people in florida have been affect. cbs news correspondent david bagnow has more report report florida health officials are reporting first locally acquired cases of the mosquito virus, chicken, the two patients have in the recently traveled outside the united states. scientists believe a mosquito bit someone with the virus and then bit someone else infect ago this person. >> this virus is unusual in that something like three-quarters of the people who are bitten do have symptoms after infection. >> reporter: the the virus is not usually deadly, symptoms include fever, joint pain as well as muscle aches, headaches, joint swelling and rash. >> typically people are better and well after about a week but sometimes the the joint

community are using new technology to fight crime. "eyewitness news" new jersey reporter cleve bryan shows us the new body cameras being used in evesham burlington county. >> police. >> reporter: it wasn't the evesham police gladly announced their pre epps they released a police dog at a burglary f there was ever a complaint about the actions supplying video like this should never be a issue for the department. >> we have outfitted each office are with their own individual body camera. >> reporter: evesham marks largest police force in new jersey to deploy department wide use of body cameras. officers picked them up at the beginning of each shift and they can record 16 hours of video. >> it gives us a level of transparency. we are a customer service agency. i want them to see everything we do at all times. >> reporter: way this works is cameras is always on but does in the start recording until officer double clicks this button. >> not only is this accountability for officer but police believe everybody will

act more civil when they know they are being recorded. >> we figured it would reduce number of complaints, internal affairs complaints, especially those frivolous once where he said she said. >> reporter: study of body camera use in california found 50 percent decrease in incidents where officers used force and 88 percent decline in complaints against officers. the the system caught $63,000 but evesham has said over three years it will save $117,000 in legal costs and workman comp change. >> this is a game changer. this is a future. every police department will be wearing these i believe. >> reporter: septa police are experimenting body cameras and evesham police are getting flooded by calls by departments looking to get started. in evesham township i'm cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a part of the pennsylvania turnpike will soon get the state's first 07-mile per hour speed limit. the 100-mile stretch will run on interstate 76 from the blue mountain interchange to morgan

town interchange south of reading. higher speed will begin on wednesday, and next week officials are expect to announce other speed limit changes coming to the turnpike just make sure to slow down when you need to. 6:21 right now. we have seen it before. someone walking down the sidewalk looking at their cell phone and then they run in the sign, fire drant or even another person. take a look a street in washington tc has cell phone walking lanes stencil on the sidewalk. now that was a stunt by national geographic which is studying human behavior for an upcoming tv series. crews watched pedestrians all day long and they said majority of the people ignored the signs. the most common response was for people to pull out their phone and take a picture of the stencils but is there always that one person you know, walking aimlessly with their phone, sometimes it is me here in the hallways of

68 degrees in wilmington. temperatures will be warming up. by noon time we should fine them around 80 degrees. by 3:00 p.m. our high for the day we will stop in the lower 80's today and keep those clouds around and keep sun breaks around as well and then we will bring back several days of some heat on that eyewitness weather forecast and we will talk about how high those numbers go, coming up, nicole. >> developing right now, homicide detectives are taking over the case of an elderly couple discovered dead inside of their strawberry mansion home. sources are telling "eyewitness news" that philadelphia police are now questioning two persons of interest. our steve paterson is live at police headquarters with the latest on the investigation, just a bizarre story, right steve. >> reporter: such a strange story, nicole and those two people have of interests are being requested as we speak. it is an investigation being taken over by homicide detectives and that suspicions that police now have have about this case. i want to take you back to the scene now, where we have

video, criminal investigators appear to be going through this scene, they are in the home in full gear, what appear to be hazmat suits taking out evident and collecting that evidence, it is elderly couple, the 66 year-old male el gladys and 79 year-old roofus per write found in their home in the 2500 block of spangler street. the couple's 39 year-old daughter is who found them dead in the living room in the early morning hours of thursday, at about 1:00 o'clock thursday morning. there were no obvious signs of trauma. no obvious signs of forced entry, no obvious signs have of carbon monoxide at the time of the initial investigation, when police were first on the scene and as that investigation progress there had appeared to be no signs of foul play but you that investigation has changed, for the worst. sources telling cbs-3 that homicide detective are involved, they have taken over their case, and as we mentioned there is two people

of interest are being questioned. that does not make them suspects at this time. they are not arrested in custody but they are just being questioned in connection with this case. the fact that homicide detective are on the case does not mean that this is a homicide, it has in the been ruled yet at this point but again, homicide detectives are looking into this case and they want to find out what happened. so we will have more as soon as we learn more from police. it is latest from police headquarters, steve paterson for cbs-3 "eyewitness news", back to you. >> steve, thank you. now to the latest on the malaysia airlines flight 17 investigation. president obama joins world leaders in calling for a cease-fire between ukraine and pro russian fighters in that country. the rebels are suspect by the west of firing the surface to air miss also that brought down that plane. investigators are now at the the crash site to remove the dead and also to look for evidence. they are trying to locate the plane's flight recorders, as well. >> it is a huge concern because it is a major piece of

the 23 year-old rookie was killed sunday when a gunman shot him in the head in the parking lot. at his wake on thursday santiago was posthumously promoted to detective and awarded the department's medal of honor. happening today the first ever officer christopher reeves super hero scholarship 5k and mile walk. millville police officer christopher reeves was kill in the accident on july 8th, 2012 while on duty. participants of the event are encourage to dress like their favorite super hero. money raised will establish a scholarship at millville senior high school. registration begins at 8:00 this morning behind the millville police department. also divers will renew efforts to find a man who disappeared during a swim near island beach state park in ocean county. twenty-five year-old nicholas have of france disappeared just before noon time. a person watching him swim from the beach lost sight and then called 911. there were no life guard work nothing that area.

remembering a young with man found dead in a duffle bag in north philadelphia. family and friend came to the tabernacle of the holy spirit church for memorial services for laura araujo, the 23 year-old was found dead monday. her body stuffed in the duffle bag outside a vacant north philadelphia home. she graduated from the art institute of philadelphia last year and was about to start a new you job. >> she didn't deserve this. not at all. she was the most beautiful person. always smiling. always thinking positive. she had such a beautiful future ahead of her. 22-year old jeremiah jackson is charge with the araujo's murder. jackson targeted her because she was staying on the same floor of the boarding house in mantua and he thought she had a lot of money. a man is recovering after two leaders of a mosque allegedly tried to chop off his hand with the machete. it happened monday morning on this mosque on north 63rd

derby was coinciding with military appreciation night tonight at the ballpark under the bridge. like tennis balls or something. happening today, the so-called happiest 5k of the planet. this sound good to me. the thousands of runners will be expect to take part in this years philadelphia color run. that could be more fun. it kicks off at 9:00 o'clock at the wells fargo center. this is video from last years event to give you an idea here. runners will go through several stations painting them with colors. so, a portion of the fund will be donated to the charity back on my feet. after a run why not partake in some ice cream, right? you burned all those calories. reading terminal market is hosting sidewalk sizzle and ice cream freeze, free event runs present 10:00 to 4:00 and there will be live music, games, arts and craft and great food. a dozen merchants will be set up along filbert street. you can shop a little as well. local carpenters are teaming up with habitat for
