not only carjacked that vehicle but also ran it through a crowd of people, in the tioga section of philadelphia. we earlier though we spoke to residents who saw the whole thing happen, and listen to this. in search of suspects, police deploy the drag net. >> bottom line is we have a tragedy here, and we will use all of the resources we have at our disposal to find the people responsible. >> reporter: police hunting for two men accused of mowing down a crowd killing children injuring more, all after a carjacking gone wrong. >> i know them kids. for somebody to hit them kid like that and keep going doesn't make sense. >> reporter: shortly after 11:00 police say two suspects carjack a woman at gunpoint at sixth and huntington. from there they drove to germantown and allegheny through a crowd of women and children carjacking victim still in the suv. >> coming back here, and learned that that was them that got hit, i don't believe

it. >> reporter: germantown resident irsalea jackson shied she just spoke to the child victims moments before they were struck. she came back to find the crime scene. now, these kids were hurt, it is so sad. i hope that they catch the person that did this. report report we are outside fill police headquarters. the the news conference scheduled to start any moment. i want to go back over the numbers as we have them, right now. so far two children are dead. one killed at the scene. other pronounced at the hospital. a third child is in seriously, in serious critical condition, on life support, we are now hearing at st. christopher's. there was a woman at that fruit stand as we understand it, she is in critical condition, as well as would the man who was carjack, in the only carjack at gunpoint but thrown into her own car and driven at the point of impact, remain in the car, she remained in critical condition, as well.

of speed, the vehicle lost control at germantown and allegheny and drove up on the sidewalk striking a 34 year-old female, who is listed in extremely critical condition at temple hospital, her 15 year-old daughter, who was pronounced at temple hospital, and her ten year-old son, who was pronounced at the scene, her seven year-old son, who was pronounced at st. christopher's hospital, also, a six five-year old female, who was struck is in stable condition at hahnemann hospital and the 45 year-old carjacking victim is critical but stable at temple hospital. fifty-nine victims were out front at germantown and allegheny, selling fruit from a cart to raise money for their church. the two suspects are described as, one black male, and one hispanic male. both in their 20's, both

wearing white t-shirts. they both fled on foot from the scene. we're asking for public's help in providing us any information, about these suspects, the reward is currently at $60,000 we're asking again for the public's help with anyone who saw anything or heard of anything, in reference to these suspects. i'll hope it up to any questions that you have. >> unaudible. >> there is three children, they are all pronounced. a 15 year-old, ten year-old and seven year-old and they are all children of the 34 year-old female. >> reporter: unaudible. >> we have not been able to make family notifications so we cannot make and release their names. >> unaudible. >> the ten year-old was a male, seven year-old son and a 15 year-old daughter. >> did you say there was a five five-year old female? >> yes, she is a neighbor of the family. she was out there as well helping to sell fruit and water. she happened to be there during the time of this

incident. >> unaudible. >> what happened that led the car to drive up the median. >> we know it was driving at a extremely high rate of speed. at some point the tire blew out. they were trying to make that turn from germantown on to allegheny, lost control of the vehicle and then ultimately ran up on the sidewalk, striking and injuring those other individuals. >> one at a time, i cannot hear. >> unaudible. >> we have been able to talk to her. she's critical but stable. secretary are now talking to her. we have some information, sketchy information, about the the doers, as i describe one ace black male one is a hispanic male but we are still speaking with her. >> unaudible. >> in the beginning, when we gotten and forced their way in the vehicle they had the female, carjacking victim driving, at some point they forced her in the back seat where the black male was the driver and hispanic male was

in the rear passenger seat where carjacking victim was. >> unaudible. >> we don't know, we are doing that though. we have alerts out at all area hospitals. if anyone shows up with any type of injuries to contact the homicide unit and we will dispatch detectives out to that hospital. >> unaudible. >> at sixth and cumberland, 600 block of cumberland. >> unaudible. >> no, carjacking victim is a real estate agent. she was out there to show a property. person she was go to show the property to did show up and as she was leaving to get back into her vehicle that is when she was approached and then force back in the vehicle vehicle. we don't believe it was a set up at all. >> unaudible. >> she has never seen them before. >> unaudible. >> we have detectives out there running the whole route that we believe that the car went down, and we're checking area video as we speak. we are pulling video.

public safety. i just want to echo and i have kept the mayor fully informed of everything that is going on much like i said earlier, today, this is a tragedy for our city. we asked for the prayers for the family within a reasonable period of time, i'm sure we will all necessity who they are and we will start to get their stories as well but from what you already know the marries heart broken, that this has happened, but really we would like the public to stand up and speak up, if you know anything, we believe that these two individuals are out there, they are not going to operate in the vacuum and somebody knows something, there is now 60,000 doll arson the table waiting for somebody to actually come provide evidence so that we can actually put these people behind bars. that is what the mayor wanted me to convey and i just want to ask that the prayers of the city go out, to this family,

and so that we can get these people behind bars. the city of philadelphia puts up funding in order to solve homicides, and we put up 20,000 for each homicide, and the marries actually considering whether or in the we will put additional funding in, at this time. we're going over some facts and figures right now but we need this to be least solved and we want these individuals as quickly as we can to get them off of the street. >> unaudible. >> i would say just imagine if this is your family and imagine that these individuals today, got up, to do something as far as we can tell right now, that they went out, to get money and raise money for either a church or maybe their block but they were doing it unselfishly, it was a mother and her children and now it

speed, and, and, at some point in time, and, we just don't know. >> thank you, commissioner. >> just some heart breaking, new details coming out, at that news conference. we now know that three children were killed in this deadly hit and run whiz originated as a carjacking. they were 15 years old, ten years old, seven years old, all set to be siblings. their mother is new listed in critical condition, they were apparently selling fruit, there at that intersection when this car lost control, with the two carjacker and would the man carjacked, where we now know that woman is also very serious condition and a third adult is fight fog are their life right now. a very serious situation and again at the end of the day three children dead. >> as you heard, a $60,000

we have new information in the deadly shooting in the delaware valley medical center. our team coverage with matt rivers with the very latest in the investigation, matt. >> reporter: as we mentioned suspect 49 year-old richard plots is expect to be charged with first degree murder, attempted murder and slew of other charges and officials told reporters earlier today that they believed that plots wanted to kill more people here thursday afternoon at the

mercy wellness center then he was actually able to. there is new information today about the violence and chaos that erupted inside mercy wellness center around 2:30 thursday afternoon. richard plots was at psychiatric appointment with his doctor lee silverman and his caseworker teresa hunt. argument erupted and plots pulled a gun. >> he intended to kill doctor silver man when he showed up for that appointment and that is yes brought the gun. >> reporter: only first he pointed weapon at his caseworker and fired. >> he fired into her head and left side of her head which we believe immediately killed her >> reporter: he wheeled around and began firing at his doctor but he had a concealed carry permit and semiautomatic handgun so he fired back. >> mr. plots was shooting at the doctor at this point in time. doctorate returned fire. the doctor emptied his gun at that point. >> reporter: he hit plots three times sustaining a grazed wound himself but

suspect didn't stop and went to reload. that is when two other employees at the center barge in the office. >> they were able to, subdue him on the ground and take the revolver away from mr. plots. >> reporter: officials called them heroes but they didn't know at the time was that plots had nearly 40 more round of ammunition in his pocket. >> we believe he was there and going to reload, back that revolver and continue, to fire and continue to kill. >> reporter: as to the motive behind this shooting officials tell us they believe plots was unhappy with a hospital policy that did not allow him to bring guns on to their property. as a convicted felon he is not allowed to have gu&s in the first place. as for the doctor he too was also not allowed to have guns at the time of this shooting. the hospital did release a statement earlier today, saying that their thoughts and prayers are with the family of teresa hunt and that they are looking forward to doctor silverman returning to work. we are live from darby, matt rivers, cbs-3 "eyewitness

news". the 59 two-year old psychiatrist doctor lee silverman was released from the hospital last night after being treated for grace wound. doctor silverman was seen walking around his house with bandages on his head and hand. he didn't want to talk with us but his wife spoke briefly to our charlotte huffman. >> what are you doing. >> he is okay. he is okay. >> her brother tells "eyewitness news" his brother is recovering and his thoughts and prayers are with his collogue and her family, yes, sir contact? >> we'relso learning more about the suspect in this conducting a search of the suspect's richard plots apartment. our team coverage continues with "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter, walt. >> reporter: that search is still underway, been underway for last hour. you can see one of the detectives coming out there they are looking for clues involving this deadly violence, but long were the violence there was evidence, a a lot of evidence, that this accused killer was a deeply trouble man with mental health problems and a criminal

history, many feared at some point he was explode into violence. long before bullets flew, wednesday afternoon, there were fears richard plots, with a history of mental health problems and weapons arrests would explode into violence. >> everybody knew who he was, everybody knew that he was a violent predator and he had potential to hurt other people. >> reporter: according to superintendent chitwooden the county's home less shelter had long banned plots from add midding because of his history. partial records of his contact with police in philadelphia, delaware county and delaware, including four illegal weapons arrests, convictions for assault, drug possession and bank robbery and at least three prison sentences. >> this guy shouldn't have been on the street, period. >> reporter: record also show that two involuntary commitments for emergency mental health issues, including >> i'm surprised he just hasn't been put away a long

time ago. i'm surprised they don't check people going in and out of places where people with some sort of psychiatric disability, drug problem, don't check them going in and out of these places. it is scary. >> reporter: despite a two decade record of crimes at major mental health problems, prosecutors say plots was never the the less, able to get a gun, and shortly after he arrived, wednesday afternoon, the violence, so many had feared for so long, began. >> this is a tragic thing but there is more and more people on the streets of our communities, all of our communities that we have no idea that they are out there that have this kind of potential. >> reporter: now prosecutors revealed that the suspect had dozens of extra bullets in his pocket, he was planning to reload, right now inside that apartment, detectives are trying to find out if he had additional bullets and weapons, maybe writings or diary anything indicating he planned a wider path of violence. they are also looking for evidence that would work in

i'm jessica dean with the day's top stories, three children killed, their mother is in extremely critical condition after a carjacked suv slams into them on a sidewalk in north philadelphia two other adults were hurt and those suspects, fled, making it a hit and run. >> the two suspects are

described as, one black male and one hispanic male, both in their 20's, both wearing white t-shirt. they both fled on foot, from the scene. >> a $60,000 reward is now being offered for information in that case. new video of police searching clifton heights delaware county apartment of allege medical center gunman richard plots. he is accused of killing his caseworker at mercy wellness center yesterday. we learned today he had nearly 40 more round of ammunition when he was reportedly shot by his armed doctor who was also wounded. speculation is growing, pope francis will come to philadelphia for the world meeting of families next year. even archbishop chaput sounds convinced. comments from the vatican have been so encouraging, we might call it and unofficial confirmation. a man is under arrest in connection with a suspect firebombing in south philadelphia. a family trapped inside was saved. thanks to an off-duty police officer who has had his share of controversy.

"eyewitness news" reporter jane carabao has that story. >> reporter: fire marshall detectives and special k-9 unit searched through these charred remains in south philadelphia friday morning, only hours before, this row home in the 1700 block of segal street was on fire trapping three people inside. >> i hope that this woman, hollering help us, help us. >> reporter: gale skinner woke her daughter who called 911. >> i'm hollering where are you, where are you? i told them the firemen is on the way. >> reporter: help was already on the scene. police say a tenant in plainclothes in an unrelated matter spotted flames and rushed to help. >> kicked in the the front door, started the occupants to get out, alerted them to the fire and they made their escape from the rear of the property. >> reporter: they jumped from the second floor a 58 year-old man, 47 year-old woman and three-year old girl were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. now police say hero copies lieutenant jonathan josey.

>> outstanding, man saved three lives. >> reporter: josey is same cop fired by philadelphia police in september 2012 after seen on video apparently striking a woman during a puerto rican day parade. josey was late's quitted of assault charges and fop appealed his dismissal. he has been since reinstated. today this neighborhood is relieved he was there. >> it is very, very dangerous. >> reporter: a lot of clean up ahead here, in the meantime red cross is helping a family of four that lived next door that is now displaced by this fire. reporting from south philadelphia, jane carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". police new say woman found dead on the side of the road in winslow township was stabbed to death. forty-one year-old victim was discovered just after 1:00 the new brooklyn aerial road and wilkins landing road. her name is withheld until her family is notified. medical center shooting in darby has raised new concerns about security at health care facilities. it is an issue our health reporter stephanie stahl has

been covering and she's in the sat center with more. >> reporter: we investigated this in april with hospital staff being injured on the job and raising serious questions about safety. labor department says that health carries the leading industry for work place violence. and many feel that there isn't enough security. there is no gun policy, but nothing else to stop people from bringing guns in the mercy wellness center, no, medal detectors. the shooter simply walk in the doctor's office where the doctor, also had a gun. >> all of our facilities do have have, some form of security. >> reporter: but mark ross, director of emergency preparedness for hospital and health system association of pennsylvania, admits, that the security at medical facilities is not stringent, or uniform. >> there is no distinct standards. there are recommendations through accreditation agencies, that say that you need a security staff. >> reporter: it is generally limited for doctors, offices but even in hospitals, security varies. some have have metal detectors

like here in the emergency department at cooper university hospital. others have cameras surveillance and security guards, but some say that hospital violence is a growing problem. a report in the annals of emergency medicine found from 2,000 through 2011, there were 154 hospital-related shootings with 235 injured, or killed. >> i cannot tell you how many times i was assaulted. >> reporter: shawna is a local nurse who we interviewed in april. she said medical facilities need more security. >> you don't know what will happen, you don't know when somebody will come with a gun. >> reporter: ross says it is an issue every where not just in medical facilities. >> it is a tragic circumstance, stephanie. it is saying more about today's society, more so then the industry. >> reporter: ross says that his association, and the mercy hospital system are reevaluating security plans, now and there could be new directive following this shooting. from the sat center i'm stephanie stahl, cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

believed to have survived. officials say the plane disappeared from radar less than an hour into the flight after changing its flight path because of bad weather. so far crews have found one of the flight recorders, the cause of that crash is still under investigation. in eastern ukraine a small group of dutch, as you veil yan investigators walk through crash site of malaysia airlines flight 17. investigators found what they believe are machine gun holes in the piece of the plane's fuel age. it is in the the clear how the holes got there plane went down last week killing all 298 people on board, most of the victims were dutch citizens. well, president obama is delivering a message to three central american presidents about influence of unaccompanied minors to the u.s. borders. the president met with the president of the honduras, el salvador and guatemala saying they must do more to stop flow of kids making it to the u.s. meantime texas law enforcement officers have stepped up patrols along rio grand where most of the immigrants are crossing in, to the country. >> we have a raft coming
