brown. thanks for joining us. gunman led police and chase before he shot himself. now this all started outside an apartment building in the 1100 block of haverford road in the crumb lee section of ridley park -- ridley township. steve patterson is live with the very latest on this case. steve? >> reporter: natasha happening right now behind me a memorial and vigil for the family. take look here. you see family and friends have gathered they've just lit candles and you can see the memorial in the center of a prayer sir can he just witnessed them giving their -- giving their condolences to the family much the family again is suffering after police say the father shot his own son in the head and then shot the mother of that son. we spoke to community members who are now, of course, are asking why? >> why? why? what happened? >> it is a haunting question. family, friends asking how the man that gave live to five year old tion styles could easily

take it away. >> to turn around and do this to his son, i couldn't understand that. >> reporter: police say 26 year old tyrell styles shot and kit klee injured his mother, 26 year old washington. before turning the gun on his own son. then after a police chase, he shot himself. >> it just hurts. the hurts a lot. >> police got the call after 11:00 saturday night to a home in ridley township. it was shortly after a party for washington's nephew at her sister's home. that's when styles came to the home to pick up his son washington went to the backyard to retrieve him. when police say without warning he pulled a 9-millimeter handg handgun. >> there was in signs of anything that was going to happen or anything that was going wrong. >> reporter: surveillance video obtained by cbs-3 shows styles driving off moments before officers arrived. he led police on a car chase causing on accident. injuring two people before endinendingenending in cull is n

sharon hill. >> he was good guy. no trouble. >> patricia says she's known styles since he was boy. >> every time i saw him, he would always talk about his son. >> she grew up on this block. she was born on this block. >> reporter: across town the neighborhood block captain darnell lalanne says she watched both them grow up. >> he was so sweet. he was so tiny and sweet. >> reporter: lives forever changed in a flash of violence. >> why? you know, we don't understand why? >> reporter: and you see now they just lit the candles once again the prayer circle formed around as family and friends gather to remember the lives of young see i don't know. he was killed in that very spot where this memorial is growing and this vigil has form. we're hearing his mother remains in the hospital in critical condition. the father who shot himself in the head was on live support at last check in the hospital as well. reporting life. send it back to you, natasha. >> steve, thank you so much. the search meantime does

continue for the carjackers responsible for killing three children and injuring their mother and two other women. 15 year old key era williams, 10 year old thomas reid and seven year old terrence moore were selling fruit with their mother keisha williams and a neighbor on friday when they were struck by an out of control suv. now the vehicle had been carjacked. lot of control at germantown and allegheny in tioga. the realtor who was carjacked was also hurt in this crash. a vigil was held for the victims at the scene last night. a $110,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the the arrest of these two suspects. >> the weekend is looking to end oh and a pretty stormy note. we're tracking the possibility of severe weather as we head into the evening hours. and into the night. meteorologist justin drabick is keeping a close eye on the radar for us. looks pretty active behind you, justin. tell us a little bit more about what we can expect later. not sha looks like later on into the evening into the overnight hour best shot to see scattered showers and

thunderstorms some of these could be severe, now the stronger energy continues to move eastward. you can see the clusters of showers and storms now building up across central pennsylvania right near harrisburg lightning going on. this storm is severe. as it's moving to the north and east. again on this track looks like for the next hour or two, extreme northern berks county maybe northern lehigh county up into the poconos gets impacted but elsewhere to the south and west, still pretty dry a couple of showers trying to develop across north central maryland. more showers and storms to the west moving eastward. later on tonight even here in philadelphia south jersey has a shot to see storms. tonight scattered storms, not everybody sees it some of these could be severe. we're talking about winds gust to go near 60 miles per hour. that could cause some damage. and the potential for some hail. temperatures very warm right now still in the upper 80s a lot of humidity around actually still feeling like the 90s in some spots that will help fuel some of those showers and thunderstorms. coming up in the full forecast we'll time out these storm, then talk about cooler temperatures in the seven day forecast and

you can track tonight's storms by getting our new weather app if you can track severe weather alerts and get more with new cbs philly weather app available right now in the i tunes store. natasha. >> justin, thank you so much. to brothers helped police rescue their neighbors from a burning home in north philadelphia. flames broke out about 2:00 o'clock this morning on the 900 block of west huntington street. police officers helped an elderly man and young the front door but the man's wife was upstairs in the bedroom. neighbors helped to break her fall when she jumped out of the window trying to escape the flames. >> really felt, you know, bad to see her stuck like that between, not knowing whether to run through the fire or jump out this window and put her life in a stranger's hands. that's what she d she put her lives in my hands. >> reporter: all three people made it out of the burning home. the elderly couple was treated at temple hospital for smoke inhalation. >> and a fire in northeast philadelphia sent two kids to the hospital.

this happened about 5:30 this morning on the 1300 block of eldrich street in oxford circle. heavy fire was coming from the first floor when crews arrived on that scene. two children ages seven and nine were transported to torresdale hospital in stable condition. treated for smoke inhalation. the man at the center of the medical center shooting has been formally charged now with the murder of his social worker theresa hunt, also, at itemed hurt of his psychiatrist dr. lee silverman scene here being carted away on stretcher. 49 year old richard plots was arraigned while still in his hospital bed. dr. silverman suffered a graze wound but did return fire with his own gun striking plots inside the mercy fitzgerald wellness center in darby. we've also now learned the entities of the two women killed in a crash on the garden state parkway. 69 year old francis hill and 45 year old naomi johnson both lived in turnersville. yesterday afternoon police say a pickup truck cut into the path of a car into the southbound

lanes in stafford township. striking the car and also sending them both off the road. two, 14 your old children did survive. >> now to the crisis in the middle east. still no sustained cease fire between israel and hamas. and now israeli security forces are dealing with another threat. miles away from gaza on the west bank. alfonso van marsh has the latest from israel. >> reporter: israeli tanks fired at targets in gaza sunday and hamas rockets are still landing in southern israel despite talk to both sides of a cease fire. israeli's prime minister blamed hamas on face the nation. >> they floated a cease fire proposal and you know what, this is astounding. they violated their own cease fire and they're firing at us as we speak. >> reporter: hamas says it resumed firing because of a lack of commitment from israel. until recently, most of the unrest has centered on the israeli gaza gored bother but on

sunday israeli security arrest add palestinian man miles away from gaza. >> israeli police stopped a car bomb from coming into israel at a checkpoint over my shoulder and now authorities have set up a roadblock to stop traffic from going to that checkpoint so they can blow up the car. >> the vehicle that he was traveling had in fact a large number of gas canisters fully prepared with explosive device. >> reporter: on sunday, a funeral was held in gaza for a christian woman killed by israeli air strike. almost three weeks of fighting, more than 1,000 palestinians have been killed while at least 46 israelis have died. >> alfonso van marsh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> now in eastern ukraine armed forces are moving to gain control over the rebel held area where malaysia airlines flight 17 was shot down. the fightin fighting prompted dd australian police officers to delay searching the crash site for evidence.

>> firefighters in northern california are now trying to get the upper hand on a wildfire that destroyed several homes and forced hundreds of evacuations. officials say the so-called sand fire has burned nearly 4,000 acres in the sierra nevada foothills. it continues to threaten homes east of sacremento. this fire could grow again as firefighters brace for high wind and triple digit heat. also, 2.5 years after the companies at a couldn't cardia ran aground and sank off the coast of tuscany killing three people, it arrived at the port in genoa. environmental concerns profited officials to make the decision to refloat the ship and tow it to shore so it could be scrapped. the salvage effort is expected

to cost over $2 billion. it could take another two years to completely dismantle that huge ship. pedalling for a cause. thousands of cyclists got an early start to the day today in philadelphia. as "eyewitness news" reporter syma choudhry shows us, it was all in preparation for a very long ride to the jersey shore. to help support the families of fallen heroes in our area. >> reporter: the 27th annual tour de shore kicked off at corner of 20th and walnut. 2,000 cyclists participated in the 65-mile ride to atlantic city. this is what it looked like when they crossed the ben franklin bridge. the event raises money for children's charities and to support fallen police officers and firefighters families. >> there's different organization that is do all on the thing but all about the children. >> those dollars are critically needed to support the families of our fallen heroes, children's charities across southeast pennsylvania and new jersey. >> reporter: one of the largest teams participating is

called wheels of justice led by montgomery county da risa ferman. she has participated in this event for the past six years. >> and we're riding in solidarity in support of all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. >> congressman mow hasn't came out to show his support. plans to ride next year. >> i started to cycle a little bit more this year and i'm trying to work my way up so i think next year the time may be better so you always say next year. legitimately i hope. >> reporter: and this year's goal is to raise $700,000. to make a donation or to get more information, just log on to our website at cbsphilly.com. syma choudhry, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> all right. justin we're in for a bit of a stormy night. that's right. it's been a while since we had storms on the weekend. usually pretty nice. they held off for most of the day. it's tonight into the overnight shower and storm chances increase and hot day today. one place escaped the heat and humidity down at the shore. live look right now from our neighborhood network camera.

margate, 81 degrees still people out on the beach. sunshine going on there. looks good at the shore for the next few hours. no storm threat but that may change later on tonight into the overnight hours. check out storm scan3. we have a cold front still well to the west. you can pick out that front a line extending from michigan down towards western ohio that's the front with showers and storms. then out ahead of it a little pieces of energy high in the atmosphere that are triggering off clusters of showers and thunderstorms. we have the front one right now around the harrisburg area. that's fear moving northeast that could clip areas of northern berks county, lehigh county in the next couple of hours into the poconos that probably stays clear of philadelphia and south jersey but notice more to the south and west near west virginia that could impact our area coming in through the overnight hours and i'll time that out for in you a little bit. most of the area into the mid atlantic and northeast under a severe threat tonight for the areas shaded in yellow. severe thunderstorm potential obviously heavy rain but damaging winds 60 miles per hour or higher. and the potential for some hail

and some of these storms have been indicating hail up to about quarter size right now. 87 degrees in philadelphia. 86 in allentown. so we got the heat. we got the humidity. certainly feeling like late july today. battleground difference you get into the cooler air, near the front and some of those thunderstorms temperatures quickly drop into the 70s. so that push of cooler air will work its way in our forecast in another two err no hours. dew point temperature high at 70 degrees. tomorrow little bit better. we drop to the mid 60s. so what does that mean? still on the hugh made side. it won't feel oppressive and that humidity will continue to drop over the next few days. here the setup. right now in that heat and humidity later on this week, change in the jet stream. allows cooler flow to come in from canada. if you like below average temperatures low humidity you'll like the forecast starting tuesday. high temperature five to 10 degrees below the average until then, though, it will be hot, warm and hugh hid for tonight with those shower and

storm chances. tomorrow still the threat for few thunderstorms especially early afternoon as the cold front moves through looks like less of a chance for severe but still some shower potential scattered again it's not everyone sees it. that front moves through tuesday very nice refreshing air mass highs struggle to get to around 80. tee of sun. looks good through midweek. now through 10:00 o'clock start to see storms trying to move in from the west. again, later on tonight, best shot to see some wet weather into the overnight one of the stronger clusters forecast to move through philadelphia and south jersey. looking better by the morning ride. so as of now looks like we see a break in the action into the afternoon pop up shower or storm and looking a whole lot better later tomorrow evening into the neat time hours. tuesday great. plenty of sunshine. the forecast overnight, showers and storms some of those could be severe in spots. muggy with a low of 73 degrees. tomorrow little bit better. partly sunny skies a threat for scattered shower and storms. highs in the mid 80s.

if you have shore plans keep your eyes to the sky. another warm day, 83 degrees. we'll see that shower or storm threat especially early afternoon. here the extended forecast look at tuesday's high temperature 80 degrees. low humidity stays pleasant. wednesday, thursday and friday high temperature in the mid 80s low humidity, looks like the weekend starts off dry. maybe next sunday we see a shower or storm. but looking much better as you finish off the month of july. how about that. >> very nice. thank you very much, justin. >> lesley has sports highlights for us. >> guys, day two of eagles training camp temperatures already flaring. it's only day two. lesean mccoy and trent cole squaring off so what started the fight? >> the whole camp so far has been touching me a little bit too much. i'm trying to let them know it's okay if you can't cover me, it's okay. we just battling, that's all. we're going in the locker room and talk it out, joke it out. it was nothing. >> one of the big questions this season is the defense. last year they were the worst passing defense in the league. allowing 5,000 yards.

so lots of room for improvement this year. defensive coordinator billy davis says, they will be better. >> i think our guys have much better understanding of they're assignments and they feel the whole package now. the whole defense how they fit, why their teammates rely on them to do a certain technique or line up in certain way. i think all of that has grown and will make the package stronger. >> well, today mark the one year anniversary of jeremy maclin blowing out his knee and injury forcing him to miss all of the 2013 season of course he's happy to be healthy and baaing to his old self. being able to defeat guys at the line of scrimmage, being able to dig and go -- track balls down. be able to plant and come back to balls, those are the plays that i made, you know, before i got hurt and those are the plays i'm making now. so that's kind of how you know where your process is. >> the phillies wrapping up that are series with the diamond backs before hitting the road to the first inning ryan how war at the plate.
