♪ >> we start with breaking news tonight. sources say two persons of interest are in police custody right now in connection with friday's deadly carjacking and crash. good evening, i'm nat is a brown. thanks so much for joining us. >> that crash killed three children and also injured three adults. these new developments unfolding in just the last two hours or so. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has the breaking details for us. >> reporter: natasha, this news has come down in the last two hours or so. it certainly has police headquarters behind me buzzing.

sources tell cbs-3 that two persons of interest in this case are now being questioned here at police headquarters. you'll remember the seep from friday. we have some video to show you from the corner of al gain into and germantown avenue where two suspects lost control of an suv. they had stolen from realtor moments before. they crashed into a group of people selling fruit on the corner. among them 15 year old key era williams, 10 year old thomas reid and seven year old terrence moore all siblings were hit and killed. their mother keisha williams was hit season in critical condition. a fifth woman was hit and is recovering. manhunt has been on for the pair of suspects. tonight police are questioning two men including huhn was picked up in the 2900 block of north sixth street about the case. it's not yet known whether police believe these are their two suspects but earlier today neighbors spoke to us about how important it is to bring whoever the perpetrators tour justice. >> i feel real bad. they'll do it to somebody else until they get caught.

we're already seeing some activity right, justin? that's right, natasha. thing lighting up on storm scan3. a lot of lightning going on outside right now. check out all the lightning strikes. really this extends up into the lehigh valley down through bucks, montgomery, chester counties and moving into cecil county, maryland. this is all pushing eventually will impact physical probably another half hour or so. even to extreme more than delaware and eventually into south jersey most of the activity we have seen so far has been northwest of the city. that will change later on over the next few hours. more storms developing to our south and west. see system county maryland into chester county, all the way up through the lehigh valley this is severe thunderstorm that is impacting central montgomery and bucks counties and try to time this out for you little bit. zoom in closer moving off to the northeast about 25 miles per hour. so this will impact abington about 11:09. cheltenham 11:13. bensalem 11:33 and levity town around 11:00 if you have from

this storm impacting your area. very heavy rainfall, frequent lightning winds gusting to around 60 miles an hour. there is exactly where the severe thunderstorm warning is. it goes until 11:30. so again central montgomery and central bucks counties. stay indoors until this storm passes. north and west of philadelphia, everybody under a severe thunderstorm watch until 2:00 o'clock monday morning. also, flash flood warning remains in effect for areas of southern berks county, chester county, and parts of northern montgomery county. we've seen about three to 4-inches of rain from that strong storm and these scattered to strong severe storms continue overnight heavy rain, strong winds and hail. improving conditions for monday. we'll have that forecast coming up in a few minutes. natasha. >> track the storm, get severe weather alerts also send storm pictures right to the "eyewitness weather" team with a brand new cbs philly weather app much the available now on i tunes. you can also share your storm pictures with us on twitter. use the hash tag cbs-3 storm

picks. make sure it's safe before you snap and send any photos. >> developing right now, lightning strikes in california have left one person dead, 13 others injured. the deceased was a 20 year old man. lifeguards rushed out of the water to quickly perform cpr on victims avenue lightning strike. some were in the water most of the others were on the venice beach boardwalk. one was struck while golfing on catalina island. nine people remain hospitalized including one in critical condition. one man talked about the moment he got hit. >> we got zapped. what did it feel like? it felt like a lot of heat on the head and a bit of a pressure on the head, and, you know, eyes blurry little bit. >> were you check out? yeah, lifeguard check us out and brought us to paramedics. >> that force were you so powerful it caused a power outage as well. vigil was held in ridley township hours after police say a man killed his five yeared son and critically injured the child's mother.

tonight the gunman is also dead. he was taken off life support after reportedly shooting himself to avoid arrest. >> now, police still don't know exactly what prompted that father to suddenly shoot his family in delaware county. this all started outside of an apartment building in the 1100 block of haverford road in the crumb lynn neighbor many "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson tells us, those who knew this family best are in shock. >> why? why? what happened? >> reporter: eighths haunting question. family, friends asking how the man that gave live to five year old tion styles could so easily take it away. >> to turn around and do this to his son, i couldn't understand that. report roar police say 26 year old tyrell styles shot and light klee injured cism o inform's mother before turning the gun on his own son. then after a police chase, he shot himself. >> the just hurts. the hurts a lot. report roar police got the call after 11:00 saturday night to a home in ridley township.

it was shortly after a party for washington's nephew at her sister's home. that's when styles came to the home to pick up his son, washington went to the backyard to retrieve him. when police say without warning, he pulled a 9-millimeter handg handgun. >> there was no signs of anything that was going to happen or anything that was going wrong. report roar surveillance video obtained by cbs-3 shows styles driving off moments before officers arrived. he led police on car chase, causing an accident. injuring two people before ending in a cul-de-sac in sharon hill where he attempted suicide. >> he was a good guy. no trouble. no trouble at all. >> reporter: philadelphia resident and neighbor papyri is a has known styles since he was boy. >> every time oy saw him, he would always talk about his son. she grew up on this block. she was born on this block. >> reporter: across town at neighborhood block captain darnell lalanne says she watched both shy he'll ma and cion grow up. >> he was so sweet. he was so tiny and sweet.

>> reporter: lives forever changed in a flash of violence. >> why? you know, we don't understand why. >> reporter: steve patterson, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> the man at the center of the medical center shooting has been formally charged now with the murder of his social worker theresa hunt also the attempted murder of his psychiatrist dr. lee silver ma man seen on street kerr shorely after the shooting. 49 your old are you char plots was arraigned while still in his hospital bed. dr. silverman suffered a graze wound meantime but returned fire with this own gun striking plots inside the mrs. see fitzgerald wellness center in darby. >> quick actions by police also some neighbors helped to save 33 people from a burning home in north philly. a fire broke out about 2:00 o'clock this morning on the 900 block of west hunning ton street. officers were able to help get an elderly man and a young woman out of the front door but the man's wife was on the second floor. neighbors convinced the woman to jump out of the weren't dough and they managed to break her

fall. >> really felt bad to see her stuck like that between life and death not knowing whether to try to run through the fire or jump out this window and put her life into stranger' hasn't. she put her life in my hands. >> elderly couple was treated at temple hospital for smoke inhalation. they're now being helped by the red cross. another early morning fire displaced two families sending two children to the hospital in stable condition. firefighters responded to the call about 5:30 this morning. heavy fire was showing from the first floor when crews arrived on that scene on the theen hundred block of he will bridge street. two children were treated for smoke inhalation at torresdale hospital. >> we've learned the identities two women killed in crash the garden state parkway. they both lived in turnersville. yesterday afternoon police say a pickup truck cut into the path of a car in the southbound lanes in stafford township striking

the car and sending them both off the road. two, 14 year old children were hospitalized. they're injuries are not life threatening. tonight, storms are rolling through the region pretty quickly much the threat continues into the overnight hours. meteorologist justin drabick tracking all this activity for. >> strong to severe thunderstorm improving conditions for monday, though. i'll time this out for coming up in the full "eyewitness weather" forecast. >> plus health officials say it's the largest outbreak ever of the deadly virus oh bowl lie and news a second american aid worker is infected with this disease. also, the ill fated companies at a concordia cruise ship makes its final voyage. it arrives at italian port. so what will happen to it now? >> straight ahead in sports, ryan howard back in the lineup for the second straight game and comes up big for the phils. lesley van arsdall has details. stay with us.

police department tell "eyewitness news" that two persons of interest are in custody being questioned in connection with friday's deadly carjacking and crash in tioga. this crashed killed three children, injured three adults, again, the two people being questioned are considered persons of interest at this point. no charges have been filed just yet. stay with "eyewitness news" and cbsphilly.com for all the news developments as it surrounds this story. also tonight, we're tracking thunderstorms as they move throughout the region. the storms are carrying heavy rains and lightning as you can see from storm scan3 here. justin will have the full details and the timing of these storms coming up for us in just a few minutes. >> now, in eastern ukraine armed forces are moving to gain control over the rebel held area where malaysian airlines flight 17 was shot down. the fighting prompted dutch and australian police officers to delay searching the crash site for evidence. meantime the state department released satellite matches to back up its claim that rockets

have been fired from russia into eastern ukraine. >> violence is middle east continued today says spite talks of a cease fire. attacks have main the sented near the israeli gaza border. but today, israeli security forces arrest add palestinian man at a checkpoint. police say they stopped a car bomb from entering israel at that site. investigators are now looking into any ties the alleged bomber may have to hamas. >> also two americans trying to help fight a fast-moving outbreak in west africa have now contracted the deadly disease. the pair traveled to liberia with a humanitarian organization called samaritans purse to help treat patients infected with owe bowl lie. experts say the outbreak could spread beyond the borders of west africa. both americans tested positive for this disease last week. >> dr. bradley and nancy are both in stable condition tonig tonight. they have fevers, they have body aches and pains.

they're not out of the woods y yet. >> the disease is fatal and up to 90% of cases and there is no known cure. but experts say the risk of contracting this disease through contact is low. >> firefighters in northern california are trying to gain the upper hand on a wildfire that destroyed several homes and forced hundreds of vac weighings. officials say the so-called sand fire has burned nearly four thus sand acres in the sierra nevada foothills. it continues to threaten homes east of sandra mento. the fire could grow again as firefighters brace for high wind and triple digit heat. 2.5 years after the concordia ran around and sang it arrived a port in italy. environmental officials made the decision to refloat the ship and tow it to cost. it's expected to cost over $2 billion.

it could take another two years to completely dismantle the ship ship. >> all right. we are tracking these strong to severe thunderstorms across the delaware valley. and this is a live look from our campbell's field camera. if you look northward into the distance eventually you'll see lightning strike. here in the city little bit of rain he is supperly on the northern edge still a lot of the activity still well to the north and west. i'll show you this on storm scan3. and we'll break it down for you. we have more developing thunderstorms across chester county so eventually that does impact philadelphia but this extends all the way down into areas of northern virginia. so eventually parts of northern delaware southern new jersey we'll see shower and storm activity after midnight. so war not out woods just yet. probably when you get to three, 4am we should start to see some improvements but a closer look here. we do still have one severe thunderstorm moving through north central buck county right now. it's headed off to the north and east very heavy rain. that heavy rain extends all the

way down through central chester county, about to move into northern new castle county delaware moving into the northern wilmington suburb. extends down into cecil county near the town of northeast maryland and eventually ill packeting elkin all pushing to the east eventual the it will move through the wilmington area and salem and gloucester county over the next few hours. moving northeast about 25 miles an hour look around northampton 11:25. bensalem 11:34. bristol 11:48 and just after midnight for trenton. a lot of heavy rainfall with this system. and with that flash flood warning does remain in effect for the that region as well. there's the thunderstorm warni warning. it goes until 11:30 again north central moment county. and then again rainfall amounts have been about three to 4-inches this is a radar estimate of the rainfall previous from some of these storms and you can see the yellow and some oranges showing up that's two to 3-inches so that's why the flash flood warning does remain in effect and also some flood advisories for some smaller streams for

many areas that are under the gun right now with this strong thunderstorm. temperatures starting to cool down rain cooled air out to the north and west reading at 68 degrees but still out ahead of the storms very warm and humid temperatures in the upper 70s. once you get behind a cold front, cooler drier air will start to build in and we'll start feeling that later during the day monday. due point temperatures measures how much moisture in the atmosphere in the low 70s. it does feel oppressive but that's helping to fuel these strong to severe thunderstorm. changing on the way though. once we start moving into monday night, tuesday the jet stream takes a dive to the south. this brings in dry, cool air mass for the middle of the up coming week. so temperatures actually below average as we finish off the month of july. if you like cooler and less humid conditions you'll love the forecast coming up. front comes through tomorrow. so still i can't rule out share maybe a thunderstorm. they won't be severe. improving conditions by the evening hours. tuesday looks great high of around 80 degrees. wednesday mid 80s again, now

threw about three, 4am we'll see clusters of some showers and storms some could be strong to severe by 7am looking better. maybe a couple of lingering showers along the coastal areas. some improvement the morning drive. monday afternoon a chance of a shower perhaps thunderstorm but looking better monday night, tuesday we're back to the sunshine of the overnight watch out for some showers and storms it will be muggy low 73 degrees. some improvement on monday. partly sunny skies, humidity drops through the day could be a shower or thunderstorm highs in the mid 80s. at the shore, again, just keep your eyes in the sky. breezy, warm, 83 degrees could have to top a shower early afternoon. here's the, 10ed forecast. 80 degrees for the high tuesday. mid 80s wednesday, thursday, friday, it's warm, but not humid next weekend we could see a shower or storm on sunday. nice finish to july. >> not bad at all. thank you very much, justin. >> lesley has lots of sports highlights for us. >> a great reunion at the phillies game and i'll scholl you the video coming up much the fight loose looking to take the series from the d

area. >> reporter: 27th annual tour de shore kicked off sunday morning at the corner of 20th and walnut. 2000 sand cyclists participated in the 65-mile ride to atlantic city. this is what it look lick when they crossed the ben franklin bridge. the event raises money for children's charities and to support fallen police officers and firefighters families. >> there's different organization that is do all different things all about the children. >> no dollars are critical. they're critically needed to support the families of oh our fallen heroes to support children's charities across south eat pennsylvania and new jersey. >> unwere of the largest teams participated called wheels of justice led by da risa ferman. she has participated in this event for the past six years. >> we're riding in solidarity in support of all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. >> congressman meehan came out to show his support. plans to ride next year. >> i started to cycle a little bit more this year and i'm trying to work my way up.
