lightning strike about 1:15 this morning. shortly thereafter, we had a young camper, staying in our whitesell camp down the hill in a overnight program get up to go to the bathroom. she ultimately yelled fire. >> the meeting house is destroyed, but the good news, no injuries. >> lightning also suspected in a overnight fire that damaged a big water tower in camden. "eyewitness news" on the scene here at cop wood and davis streets. fire crews arrived just after 2:30 this morning, and they had the situation under control within the hour. at those overnight storms also leaving an impact here in medford, burlington county, too. residents of the home escaped serious injury, after a tree fell right through the roof and into their bedroom. crews were called to that scene to inspect the damage, and determine if that structure is still safe. firefighters off to rescue young woman whose vehicle was partially submerged in the water in pottstown, authorities say she drove her car into standing water on west high street near the

railroad overpass overnight. two firefighters walked out and carried that woman to dry land. she was not hurt, we're told, but her car suffered some water damage. and early morning wake-up call for residents of this apartment building, it is on the 1200 block of walnut st., in center city. thirty-six people had to be evacuated around 2:00 a.m., when the roof began leaking. the water damaged the building's alarm system, and that's a code violation, residents will not be allowed back inside until those repairs are made. and what an awful way to go to the storm, being kicked out of your building. >> got that right. good morning, family, are we in the clear? we'll check in with katie in the eyewitness weather center. >> thankfully we, are yes. we are expect to go see skies clear out little bit more readily here, residual shower, maybe pop up thunderstorm, still possibility, especially as the day progresses, closing in on probably nearing sunset, the next best shot for. that will but you know, we are certainly in the clear at this point from the worse. so i want to take you back in time, see what we were dealing

with, as it came out on radar. now looking at 6:00 last night. so things are starting to fire up obviously off to the west here, pa turnpike getting lit one lightning, my gosh, look at that, we had so many severe thunderstorms warnings coming through for central pennsylvania, and it held together awfully well here through basically southeastern pa up until about 10:00, 11:00 at night. my colleague justin drabick was very busy last night, meanwhile, delaware and new jersey, didn't really start to get in on things until you probably headed to bed for the night, just waking one us now, as we stand here at 6:00 a.m., the next day, things have really cleared out nicely, so we put things into motion. still see little bit of rotation taking place here, latest system sort of swings the colds front through. but not completely gone just yet. so the new air mass, the drier cooler air mass hasn't completely taken over just yet. that's why you still have variety every winds direction, showing up, and it is still pretty mild. only 07 degrees right now at the airport and atlantic city,

cooler by comparison in the mountain us terrain. day progresses, some clouds, some sun, breeze is also noticeable for you out there, will still be as i mention that residual shower perhaps rumble every thunder that fires up here. do you need the umbrella on day like this? i think you can get away without t don't be surprised if few additional raindrops come along before it is all said and done. bob, over to you. >> morning, 6:03, everything little damp and wet from the storms last night, everybody could be little grumpy, too, this morning, not kidding, full night sleep. going outside, live look as the penndot truck tries to put up this disable on to the tow truck here. this is the baltimore pike ramp, to the northbound lanes of 476 to fishtown, i95, in the construction zone, where we have three lanes squeeze, working your way in toward downtown, but otherwise, other than just some volume popping, everything good to go on our major roadway, and problems, though, on mass transit. all of the septa subway

surface trolleys from there the market frankford line will take you the rest of the way into center city all because of power problems in the tunnels, in center city. and it is center sit at this self, walnut blocked 12th to 13th, market street the best bet this morning, ukee, back to you. >> in the news, two men described as persons of interest are undergoing questioning in connection with the deadly carjacking in north philadelphia. the suv jumped a curve and killed three children. syma chowdhry at police headquarters now to tell you more about it, syma? >> that's right, ukee, police are questioning two men, they call, persons of interest. they've been here since last night here at police headquarters. one of the men was pick up by police, on the 2900 block of below of north sixth street. after community spent the weekends grieving, mourning the loss, of three siblings. >> (praying). >> reporter: community comes

together in prayer over the weekend. a vigil was held where three children were struck and killed, by an out of control stolen suv. >> very good kids. >> fifteen year old tiara williams, ten year old thomas reid and seven year old terrence moore, were selling fruit friday morning, at the intersection of germantown and allegheny avenues. the suv that struck them was carjacked moments earlier with the carjacking victim still inside. >> they had the female carjacking victim driving. at some point they forced her into the back seat where the black male was the driver and hispanic male in the rear passenger seat where the carjacking victim was. >> the children's mother, 34 year old keisha williams, was injured in the crash. she is in critical condition, while the carjacking victim remains hospitalized, and in fair condition. there has been a $110,000 reward in place. the two men in custody are not considered suspects, but many are hoping for who ever did this will be brought to justice. >> just praying the people who done it, and, you know, that

closure can come. >> again, the two men being questioned are considered persons of interest. so far no charges have been filed. live at police headquarters, syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> syma, thank you. developing right now, homicide investigation into the feltonville section of the city. investigators tell us around midnight, gunman opened fire on the front porch of a home shooting five people. it happened in the 4900 block of north front street. a 20 year old man died at a hospital, and another victim is in extremely critical condition. the other three victims are suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds. so far, no arrest haves been made. well, questions remain after a local father went on violent rampage killing his son and injuring the child's mother. it happened saturday night at a home in the crumb lynn neighborhood of delaware county. tyrell styles was thereto pick up his son, and without warning, he opened fire.

that child was killed at the scene. his mother, shyima is in critical condition. this morning, the neighborhood is in shock. and i'm just so sorry that this happened. it just don't seem real. because he was a good guy. >> "eyewitness news" obtained this surveillance video of tyrell driving away from the scene. police chased him down to a deadened in sharon hill where we're told he continued the gun on himself. then just last night, he was taken off of life support. an update on the deadly medical center shooting in darby. forty-nine year old richard plotts charged with the murder every his social worker and psychiatrist doctor lee silverman, doctor silverman suffered graze wounds but returned fire with his own gun striking plotts on thursday inside the mercy fitzgerald wellness center. plotts was arraigned while still in his hospital bed over the weekend.

now, here is a look at some of the other news events happening today. delaware governor jack markell signs bill this morning banning everyone under 18 from tanning in a salon. salon's must also post signs warning of the risk of indoor tanning beds. >> a job fair at the showboat casino and a total of eight over the next two weeks. many employees could lose their jobs, while as many as three casinos close this fall. closing arguments are set in donald sterling's trial over crows of the los angeles clippers. sterling wants to stop his wife from selling the team after he was banned from the nba for arrays is rant. well, lifeguards race through the surf at california beach right there when lightning strikes more than dozen people. >> i felt like a lot of heat on the head, bit of pressure on the head. >> then all the sudden big flash every light. a boom. i felt like someone punched me in the back every my head like right here. >> it sounded like a sonic

boom. >> survives ores re counseled the terrifying ordeal on the beach and why it was such a shock. hear what it was like just moments before the lightning struck. >> also this morning, jeep slams into a house and, get this, the driver was i in diapers. that's because he was only three years old. and what he did next might be even more surprising than the crash itself. we'll be back.

eyewitness records rescuers caring a victim away from the water, after he was reportedly struck by lightning, at venice beach, los angeles. >> the beach complete chaos. >> witnesses say the lightning struck before lifeguards could clear the water on what seemed to be a beautiful summer day. >> it was clear blue skies overhead. >> just insane, that lightning would just crash on the beach, right there, right in front of us, the loudest lightning i've ever heard. >> rescuers say it took an hour to find one of the victims floating in the water. >> actually notified by their friends they were swimming with them. >> paul dion was body surfing with his partner when he was struck. >> i was trying to get my head above the water for air. >> luckily, for him, the injury was superficial. the memory, unforgettable for anyone who was there. >> we got zapped. >> what did it feel like? >> felt like a lot of heat on the head, and bit of pressure on the head. >> in all, 13 people reported feeling the lightning strike. >> they were either in the water at the time that this

occurred or very near the water. >> a 20 year old man died from his injuries and another person is reported to be in critical condition. david begno, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". just incredible. 6:13, we had our own severe weather here overnight. >> a lot of people thankfully indoors for the night, though, tuck in bed, thankfully. but we certainly did have our fair share of damage and other reports that came in of other issues, so significant cooling that comes along with this, you will notice that, that's really sort of the trade off that we get from the strong storms that rumbled through here. all courtesy of where the jet stream is moving. and the jet stream remember has two primary functions for one thing it separates the coolest, driest air from the warmest most humid air, but also steers storm systems. so trough dug in at this point, it is not completely gone just yet. but you can still see the rotation, of wet weather being pulled away. still lingering clouds, as it starts to pull away. that's the colds front. doing its work. but, eventually, there may still be just residual shower

perhaps rumble of thunder. don't be surprised by, that the worse thankfully over. mid 80s meantime today. tomorrow looks like the coolest day of the bun: remember the hottest time of the year. the fact we're only hitting 808 that's big deal for us. i would say pretty nice trade off. enjoy it while you have got t mid 80s at most through the rest of the week, overall looks like quiet week weather wise, good news coming up here. >> looks like good week for training camp, good week for soccer camps. live look at the schuylkill expressway between gladwynn and conshohocken, again, roads are little damp and wet from all of the rain last night, but for the most part we're in good shape on major roadways, like 202, live look here, in chester county, no problems at all through the construction zone, between west chester all the way up through chesterbrook. now, power problems in the tunnels, causing the route ten, 11, 13, 34, 36, the subway surface trolleys, all diverting at 40th and market. and then between 40th and market, and center city, commute kearse use the market frankford line to gain access

to downtown. traffic lights out, the boulevard, and mascher, no cross-traffic permitted at mascher. so motorists need to go to rising sun if you are going to connect from one side or the other for the boulevard. traffic lights also out, at verree and red lion, with all of the power outages, storms we had yesterday, i wouldn't be surprised if there are a number of traffic lights on your way to work this morning, that are either out or maybe on flash and they need that reset button hit. watch for lights other here germantown pike at valley forge road outside of trooper. ukee, back to you. >> developing stories top today's heed lines on cbs-3, police questioning two persons of interest in connection with friday's deadly carjacking and hit-and-run in north philadelphia. three children were killed. three adults injured. the vehicle involved was a stolen suv. >> also, developing right now, a 20 year old man was shot and killed and four other people wounded by gunfire in feltonville. it happened about midnight and so far police have made no arrest. >> lightning strike may have sparked this fire at the paradise farm camp in east rad

3:00 open to everybody, parking lots at the sports complex open at 9:00. gates open at 11:00 and practice starts at noon. well, it is phillies and mets in tonight, phils will start a.j. burnett against cologne at city field. yesterday, ryan howard put the phils up in the first inning. a good start for the big piece. and he was not finish. an inning later, he made a great stop over at first, then a great throw to j-roll covering second for the force out. phils beat the diamonds backs four to two to take two of three over the weekends. >> biker took to the roads for a great cause. >> yesterday the 27th annual irish pub tour de shore. >> took part in ride to atlantic city. raise z money for children's charities, and benefitting firefighters and police officer's families, largest for the tore. registration had to close back in june, this is overwhelming demand. so big smiles, everyone, right

destructive storms moved across tennessee, flashes of lightning, loud thunder could be seen and heard all around knoxville. >> it was roar, like a train coming through, and then i heard a tree follow anethol it was coming through the house. >> oh, scary. now that powerful storm

destroyed at least ten homes, and dozen more were damaged. it is still not clear if the tornado was responsible, but luckily, no one was injured. that noise, i'm telling you, i felt like we all heard it dozens every times. >> we all got woken up at least a couple of storms with the storms rolling through. it did spread eventually through new jersey, delaware, so i can at least tell threw it is quieter now, we start things off by taking you through much quieter view, in fact, of the live neighborhood network, where we really just are couple every clouds at this point, skies are gradually going to try to clear out. but doesn't mean we're totally in the clear. that's just because the front itself hasn't completely rolled out of here yet. so may still be lingering shower perhaps rumble every thunder, but the worse is over, eight had degrees our expected hi, back to the low to mid 80s, tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday, actually, look pretty quiet. does not look like there will be any major storms to track for the rest of the week. so, a very quiet and franklin

well deserved break coming our way. >> 6:23, live look from downtown philly, the headlights, making their way out of northeast philadelphia, winding through the city, on 95 south, headed in toward girard avenue. so starting to see some volume pop here for the morning rush hour, good news from septa, that power issue complete, fixed repaired back to normal on subway surface trolleys, now rolling the entire lent, diverting from the tunnel there little while. downed tree in delaware county right by the granite run mall, 352 blocked right near 452, so at least for the morning, the beginning of the morning, stay with route one, through delaware county there. and downed tree in chester county, along route ten, that's blocked at todd road, otherwise, all of the bridges look fine at the moment. mass transit running with no delays. ukee, back over to you. >> thank you, deadly plane crash on the beaches of florida, but the victims were not in the aircraft itself. a pilot forced to make an emergency land whg he lost control and the plane came down right on top of a man and his caught here were walking on the beach.

one eyewitness describes what happened. >> whatwhat i suspect the motor went out, couldn't hear it coming, ran owl of future and just hill them while wasn't red. >> i man was killed, his daughter know hospitalized in critical condition. the pilot and his panning ers err -- passenger were not injured. >> driver crashes suv into him neighbor's home, good reason why he didn't have a license. just three years old. police released these pictures from the crash from last week. the toddler was just wearing a diapers when he found his mom's keys, hopped in the jeep, and then knocked it out of gear. he was not hurt in the crash. but get this, police say, he immediately went home and then watched cartoons, like nothing ever happened. that boy's mother is now charged with failing to supervise him. >> can you imagine, where did my keys together? >> 6:45, sarah palin launched

of interest both have been here since last night, one of them was pick up by police, in the 2900 block of north sixth street. now, both are being questioned, about a deadly carjacking and hit-and-run crash, that killed three children, in north philadelphia. a search wore two suspect began, when three children, 15 year old kira williams, ten year olds thomas reid and seven year old terrence moore, were struck and killed by an out of control stolen suv while selling fruit at the intersection of germantown and allegheny avenues. the vehicle had been carjacked at gunpoint, just moments earlier. now, the children's mother, 34 year old keisha williams, was injured in the crash. she remains in critical condition at temple hospital. the carjacking victim, who was in the vehicle, remains hospitalized and in fair condition. there is a $110,000 reward in place. the two men are not considered suspects, but neighbors hope who ever did this will be brought to justice.

sparks, police at par days farm camp say they her roared of thunder all night, saw huge bullet of lightning about 1:15 this morning. then meeting house went up in flames. meeting house is destroyed except for the company any. although lightning suspected, fire officials are still investigating the cause. also, overnight, believed lightning is to blame for fire that damage add water tower in camden. crews responded to the scene over at cope wood and davis streets around 2:30 this morning, they had the situation under control, we're told, within an hour. also, overnight, 36 people had to be evacuate from the this apartment building on 12900 block of walnut st. in philadelphia. team water started leaking, we spoke to few residents had long night out on the street. >> stairwells are marble. and they are already getting wet. water coming down the stairwells. we made it down the stairs,

little tricky because they were wet. >> oh, man, wet marble stairs? doesn't sound very good. crews working on make those repairs so everyone can be allowed back n seems like no matter where you were, katie, everyone heard some thunder, saw some lightning, got some rain? >> slutly. everybody got in on t at least all done with it at this point too. even early this morning, when we went on the air just two hours ago, earlier at 4:30 this morning, we did still have some very heavy rain, long since moved out to sea and we are essentially in the clear. there may still be residual shower, if not pop up thunderstorm, we walk you through all of it, start off with quick view of storm scan3, what's left, again, wet weather now thankfully issue out to sea, in problem on dry land, which continues to dry out, probably left with some damp conditions, and also still casino of muggy depending upon location, too. drop off dew point across north and western suburbs

specially, still talking very steamy air masses here through wildwood, cape may, dover and down toward rehoboth. >> start to see these wind speeds kicking in little bit more heavily, so, i think eventually you're talking sustained winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour, that will be very noticeable. 70 degrees meanwhile is the current temperature at the airport, as well as atlantic city. hasn't changed all that much throughout the course of the morning, usually we see some movement on the thermometer, again, in transition, so a lot of times, at this time of the morning, you can see virtually balancing act take place here, cooler air moves n we don't get chance to really cool down or heat up all that much. meanwhile, eventually, shoot for the mid 80s, but could still be residual shower or thunderstorm firing up at some point later on, bob, over to you. >> morning, everybody. 6:34, joint starting to jump here, starting starting to see e on major roadways, everything still damp and wet from all of the rain we had last night. live look at the schuylkill

expressway. everybody moving away from the camera headed westbound out toward belmont. see the flares down here, and that's kind of slowing us down little bit. >> i95, same deal, volume building as we head south in toward center city philadelphia. some good news, septa has some problems this morning but everything repaired, subway surface trolleys back to normal. the rest of mass transit running with no delays this morning. now, in center city walnut st. blocked, between 12th and 13th, from flooding, in one of the buildings there, so market street would be your best alternate, instead of walnut for the first part of the morning rush hour, a lot of situations, a lot of intersections, traffic lights out. one of the big ones here, the roosevelt boulevard at mascher, now, there is no cross-traffic permitted at mascher. so you will need to use rising sun avenue, and for everyone coming in from new jersey maybe right back from the shore, some extra volume along

pro russian insurgents. the costa concordia finally reaches its final destination tugboats brought the crippled chews ship into genoa where it will be torn apart. the ship had been stuck off the coast of italy since january 2012 after it hit a reef. thirty-two people died. crews plan to search the wreckage again, for the body of a missing waiter. fire crews in california, they're battling 4,000-acre wild fire east of sacramento and two others at yosemite national park. triple digit temperatures, and strong winds, continue to challenge 1500 firefighters battling that wild fire. the sands fire, as it is called, has burned 13 homes and 38 out building in the see area foot hills of northern california. over a thousand residents had been evacuated. >> usually, the bad guys who police go after, not in times square recently. man dress up as spiderman got into a fight with officer after an argument got out of
