>> wild shoot-out in new york city leaves suspect dead said it happened in the westville as when authorities tried to make arrest. conditions of law enforce. officials now are unclear but authorities say the suspect was wanted in a sexual assault case. >> investigators are on the scene of deadly head-on crash in hatboro montgomery county. chopper three over county line road near jacksonville road at around 3:00 this afternoon. it appears a dump truck collided when another vehicle there. rescue crews and firefighters swarmed the accident scene authorities say the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. well, officials believe that lightning may be to blame for a fire at paradise farm camp in east bradford chester county. workers at the campgrounds say they saw bolt of lightning hit about 1:15 this morning then the teen lodge day camp building went up in flames and was destroyed. fire officials are investigating tonight. no one there was injured. we will have a more on the

fire though, tonight on "eyewitness news" at 6:00. well lightning is also suspected in a overnight fire that damaged this big water tower in camden. "eyewitness news" at copewood and davis streets where fire crews arrived just after 2:30 this morning. they had the situation under control within an hour. well firefighters rescue a driver trapped inside after partially submerged vehicle in pottstown. authorities there say that a young woman drove her car into the standing water on west high street, right near the railroad overpass. two firefighters walked out they were able to car that i woman to safety, she was not injured. women, it was a stormy night overnight. the sun though, did return today. and now we're looking for some nice changes ahead. meteorologist, kathy orr, live out on the cbs-3 skydeck with the first forecast now, cathy. >> chris, the winds every change are blowing. the cooler air is not here just yet but it is on its way. we have a few more showers this evening to move through

and then we're home clear. looking at storm scan3 right now seeing line of showers headed toward allentown the lehigh valley there moving toward the southeast. and losing some strength. so i do think over the next couple of hours they will just be some light showers some pockets of moderate rain as well as they move through the delaware valley, little bit later on during the evening period. let's talk about the temperatures. right now, 83 in philadelphia, 82 in millville wilmington, 80 cooler through the lehigh valley. look at the poconos, 606 and beyond, state college, 66 pittsburgh 64. this is the air that's making its way into our region, and coming in, in a gusty way winds gust to go 30 miles an hour in philadelphia, right now, gust toss 28 miles an hour in lancaster wilmington and millville. so, it will be a breezy night. this evening temperatures falling through the 70s, into the 60s by 11:00 p.m. during the evening, a few stray showers out there. coming up, we'll talk about a cool change that is coming, and the next chance for that

heat humidity, and some summertime storms to return. that is the very latest from the skydeck. we'll have more on what is to come in that seven day forecast later in the broadcast. >> all right kathy thank you. 232 year old montgomery county man dead after early morning shooting. police are questioning the suspect who neighbors say was defending his home. shots rang out in the 1100 block of willow street in norristown. and that's where "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is live with the details. cleve? >> reporter: well, here we are almost 17 hours later and this is still very active scene on willow street. both montgomery county detectives, and the norristown police department, working on this, we haven't got a lot of details from them, but hearing from neighbors they say they're relieved to know it wasn't their neighbor but possible intruder, the one shot and killed. >> blaine peers says gun slots were lard to hear this morning even though deadly situation was unfolding just three doors down. >> i thought it was the rain, and the thunder and lightning at first because -- >> he said soon detectives came knocking on his door, and

told him his neighbor had killed a suspected intruder. >> quiet guy quiet dude. he lived on this block almost all his life, and for something like this to happen to him just craze. >> i peers says his neighbor lives with his mother, and he's glad she wasn't in the altercation, the investigation continued throughout the day as patrol officers kept people away from the row home where the shooting took place. neighbors who came out after the shooting remain curious and upset. >> i feel scared for my street, because who knows, it could have been any house on this street. >> lives on willow street, says it is a shame for everyone involved. >> i think it is sad that he got killed, but at the same time it is self-defense. you can't run in nobody's house and think you're going to get get away with it. >> family of the 22 year old involved in this shooting say he's also from norristown, another part of town, they don't know what he was doing on this street early this

shore, enjoying a very pleasant day breezy conditions in ocean city, cape may county. you're looking live from our "skycamtop the ocean city music pier. folks still enjoying the surf, and the sands. our live neighborhood network takes us to whitfield elementary school in reading where the temperatures 80 degrees, blue skies there with winds out of the west-southwest, at about 18 miles an hour, that's a sustained winds so we're talking about higher gusts across the area, seeing winds gusting to about 30 miles an hour. here we go. with a few more showers before that much cooler air makes its way through the delaware valley. cool front not through just yet, allentown seeing few showers, northern berks county some rain there is will be moving toward philadelphia, but by the time it makes it, it will be in a much weaker form. so we are expecting some showers, not a lot out of this, nothing like we saw last night. you can see the line, with the cooler air through the poconos, and toward the north and the west. seventy-eight in allentown, 78 in reading still 83 in philadelphia, 82 in millville

atlantic city and in wildwood. we are looking at dew points, so that true amount of moisture in the air at about 58 that's the current dew point temperature tomorrow, it will be lower at 55. and that is in the very pleasant category. doesn't get that much better as far as humidity is concerned. in the wake of our front, it will be very comfortable for tuesday, mostly sunny skies dry conditions, and northwesterly winds that will keep a breeze in the air if you're out of the sun may feel little cool, and then we'll warm it up for wednesday, as high pressure signings to the south and for thursday, the high pressure well to the south of us, we get into that return flow, which is a warm southwesterly winds, thursday, will be the peak of the heat, before our next chance of showers and storms return to the forecast by the ends of the week. in the poconos looking great 72 tuesday wednesday, 73 scattered storm possible for thursday, with temperature of 76. so for tonight evening shower possible, cooler and breezy, the low of 62. very comfortable for your tuesday, almost fall-like with a temperature of 80.

secretary more power to fire executives within that agency. well pennsylvania senator pat toomey was in montgomery county today talking about ways to lower the unemployment rate for military veterans. >> we got to fix. that will because the unemployment rate for returning veterans is way too high. these are folks that have awful lot that they can bring to any job. so one of the things we have to figure out how to better match the skills that they have with the openings that exist in our economy. >> and the senator was in town attending veterans job summit at pfizer collegeville campus. he is sponsoring a bill that would create a consolidated employment website for veterans. well, teens in delaware will no longer be able to tan inside a facility. a delaware governor jack markell signed a bill today that bans anyone under 18 from using tanning beds even if they had their parents permission. the bill is aimed at reducing teens risk for mel no, ma'am a it also forces tanning salons to post warning signs about

>> we wish them lots of nights of sleep. they'll need it. >> good luck to them. last night's severe weather just one of many lightning storms we've had this summer. it has been something else. storms producing more lightning strikes than ever before. >> meteorologist, kate bilo, explains why. >> well, if you are look me, were you awake ends by lightning and thunder last night, as another rounds of severe storms rolled across the delaware vale, sky looking a lot like this. this is time lapse video shot earlier this is the month, but, boy it has been a summer of lightning, it seems like, every storm system that comes through the area, has been delivering frequent lightning strikes. in fact, let's back down some of the most notable recent events. this is since late june, on june 19th, half dozen fires were sparked across the delaware vale, thanks to suspected lightning strikes. july 2nd, storm broad over 10,000 strikes in one evening. on july 14th, 14 year old boy was struck in delaware county, as another severe lightning storm came through. just last week, july 23rd over 12,000 lightning strikes

in one night. and of course, just last night, july 27th suspected fires and power outages from another round of severe lightning. so just what is going on? i'll tell you, it is summertime. we do get thunderstorms frequently in the summer july august, usually biggest months for lightning anyway. normally in the summer we get big bermuda high that sits over the northeast, bridges heat humidity, tends to create heatwaves, that last for days and days. we haven't had a pattern like this, all summer long, really we've had the frequent storms moving through strong jet streams, and frequent cold fronts pitting the warm humid air up against the cooler drier air from the north and west creating explosive thunderstorms, they've had a lot of electric, a loft lightning so far this summer. we'll see what the rest of the summer has in store. rest of the week looking pretty good. for more on that with the rest of the forecast, here's keith. >> i thanks very much, kate. yes, big changes coming our way. and not too soon. take a look at these showers. they are going to be weakening as they move across the delaware vale, this evening. so no thunder or lightning

with these just some rain, and there could be some moderate to heavy downpours here and there. but that's just about it. so the worse was definitely last night. here's a look at the highs today. atlantic city, 85, philadelphia, 84, the same in wilmington trenton 82, reading, 81 degrees. tomorrow much different day. you can see where the cool air is, coming in, from the north and from the west. and the poconos, six off degrees, 68 in allentown 83, still in philadelphia. and more cool air to come tonight. down the shore quite warm, ocean water temperatures cooled down into the 60s whether we get those southwesterly winds on lands it, cools down the water, but we are looking at lands temperatures that are staying in the 80s for now down the shore. that will definitely ends tomorrow. in the wake of our front mostly sunny dry, comfortable weather for your tuesday noticeably cooler, high pressure builds in for wednesday, and we'll go up few degrees, by thursday, it will be close to average with temperatures in the mid to upper 80s. that high pressure system will be moving off shore.

getting closer to that bermuda high position that kate had mentioned, you have the clockwise flow, it bridges in warmer southwesterly winds increase in humidity by friday increase in chance of showers and storms, tropics pretty quiet. here tropical wave cluster of showers, thunderstorms and within the next five days, it could become tropical depression number three. right now the tropics fairly quiet, we hope to keep it that way. down the shore cooler for tuesday, high only 75, but uv index stays high with the strong summertime sun. by wednesday up to 79 degrees, but cold ocean water will persist. tonight, evening shower, or two, few heavy downpours, it will be cooler and breezy, northwesterly winds, 15 to 20 miles an hour cooler temperatures, sweater weather for your tuesday mostly sin, pleasant, high of 80 degrees. and on the exclusive eyewitness weather seven day forecast, and "shorecast" wednesday, 84, thursday, 86, so it doesn't take all that long for temperatures to

bounce back. friday, 84 with chance of shower or storm better chance on saturday, warm temperatures, persist, next sunday and monday, and shore temperatures staying in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees. looking pretty comfortable though, through late week. enjoy it. on the health watch tonight, what is the best way to greet someone? women normally we shake hands but there is a new study that confirms what we've long suspected. and that that that spreads a lot of germs. hands, then you touch the doorknob, you go shake the person's hand, that is something that gets spread. >> this video from researchers show how hand greetings were tested using sterile gloves dipped in bacteria. they found handshakes spread twice the amount of germs compared to a fist bump. >> when you grab somebody's hand and shake their hand, and grab it firm and hold it, you're going to transmit a lot more bacteria. >> most hospitals have hands sanitize nerve easy reach but growing number one hands shakes to be replaced when fist bumps. >> it is going to be little different, especially for older population, what's this? what's that? >> well what is up with that? now, the researchers also tested high five's. they spread less bacteria than a handshake but weren't as good as fist bumps. researchers say the smaller amount of skin surface that actually touches, between two hands, reduces the amount of germs that are spread. so fist bumps. >> explode willing, fist bumm up. >> or just wave? >> that would work too.
