and today is wednesday, july 30th. good morning everyone. while hundreds turn out to remember the victims of last week's deadly car jacking, we're learning more about the long criminal record of one of the suspects. >> also water flowing like one of the rapids. what a water main break causing damage to a college university. >> and the bombs continue to rain down in gaza this morning as the fight enbetween israel and hamas shows no signs of letting

>> this is a big deal that it feels like it's september outside right now. but this isn't going to last forever. is going to be returning. it may be a little bit of a spoiler alert for your weekend. we'll have to talk about that. in the meantime just enjoy it. it's a change of piece for what it should be for late july. of course some cooler air and nice low humidity kind of a day. we'll have all the details coming up. >> right now it was an emotional night in north philadelphia. >> hundreds gathered to remember three young lives lost. family members thanked police for the community and their support. two suspects are in custody in

connection to friday's crash facing murder car jacking and other charges. >> you helped solve this case so thank you for what you did. you stood up for the right thing. >> i love all of you all for coming out and supporting meanwhile, their mother continues to fight for her life in the hospital. >> we're learning more about one of the suspects. sources tell eyewitness news that cornelius crawford confessed to that crime and this is not his first run-in with police. court records show he was set ensed to 6 to 15 years back in 2007. after several misconduct violations in prison he was paroled in april last year serving a minimum sentence. later was taken into custody for

violating parole and in february he was paroled again and put back on the street. >> the difficulty here is there's so many more influences at work than simply the protection of society. it all comes down to dollars and cents. >> a 2014 statewide parole report found more than 2,000 philadelphia inmates were released from prison over a two-year period. the city has more than a 60% re-arrest rate for nearly a decade. >> the forecast is pretty quiet for us here today. yesterday weigh saw some clouds build in courtesy of cool air aloft. it was just instability needed plus the sunshine helped to warm things up at the surface. i think we'll see a similar scenario unfold here today. we should be in for what promises to be a pleasant sunrise. a little bit of activity firing up well off to our north and

west. this is in part going to help trigger some of that cloud cover as we go through the day. some of the heavier showers around storms right now over lake erie, not expected to be an issue for us. we're flirting with records this morning. not going to make it a full commitment here. but the temperatures would have to hit upper, mid or low 50s to get there. here is where we stand as of now. 45 degrees in mountain pocono. for late july, this is huge. this is really cool for the norm. 56 currently in allentown, 64 right now at philly international. you're going to feel that difference when you walk out the door. so the unseasonable chill for the standards continue. isn't it crazy that we're going to say 65 degrees at 9:00 a.m. is chilly? for the norm, yes it is. expecting some sunshine. as we saw yesterday a few clouds may build in but i don't think you're going to have to worry about wet weather out of this. in the meantime it's a pleasant

day overall. >> 4:34 on a wednesday. a live look at 95 where the crews are picking up the cones. they've been working southbound all night long. they're pulling up the old asphalt, they call that milling the roadway. until they come back to pave, you're going to have the uneven surface. same deal east and west on the schuykill expressway. light volume so far. they're also working on the ben franklin bridge where the right lane is blocked heading into new jersey. the burlington-bristol bridge just completed an opening a little bit of a delay on both sides but another couple of minutes and we should be back to normal. otherwise the rest of the

bridges are fine and mass transit running without delays. >> want to give you a live look at gaza where you can still see the sights there of combat. earlier israeli tank shells hit a united schools. a palestinian health official says at least 15 people were killed and 90 others were wounded. you see smoke rising there in the background. hundreds of palestinians had gone to the school to take shelter. the principal said shells hit two classrooms and awe bathroom. >> president obama has imposed more sanctions on russia. they are supposed to pressure putin to end support of separatists in ukraine. the decision simultaneous with similar action by the european union marks an escalation in the already strained relationship with the russian president. >> the major sanctions will continue to ratchet up.

>> the white house is also accusing russia of violating a nuclear arms treaty signed during the cold war. the u.s. says russia has been testing missiles capable of striking europe. >> a close for for a family of three in bucks county. a trash truck rolled over on top of a minivan in bristol. amazingly a husband, wife and son suffered only minor injuries. the first responder says a utility pole prevented the vehicles from rolling down an embankment. >> a wrecker happened to be passing by, i flagged him down, pulled him over, told him what i needed of him and he went right to work. we're thankful. you don't usually see a crash of that magnitude with such minor injuries. >> the driver of the trash truck was not hurt. if you know anything about the collision, you want to call the

bristol township police safety unit. >> the ntsb places the blame on conrail. the report found a train rolled past a red signal indicating the rails were not aligned. a conductor looked beforehand and said he found no problem. the ntsb also said conrail did not find its own consultant's advice to close the bridge. conrail issued a statement saying they regret the incident. the report also criticized local officials for their handling of the toxic gas release. happening today, eight of nine defendants in the main line drug ring will appear for a pretrial conference. investigators say the ring's two alleged master minds hired subdealers from five suburban high schools. the network also allegedly sold drugs at a few colleges. all nine defendants will be

tried together. they face conspiracy and drug distribution charges. a massive water main break sends a geyser of water 30 feet into the air. it happened on sunset boulevard right near the campus of ucla. it flooded the newly renovated pauly pavilion. it took krus hours to shut off the pipe. at least 8 to 10 million gallons of water escaped. >> and california is going through a drought to. >> that's right. the pentagon is investigating a major security breach after the body of a child was found in a wheel wheel. >> the discovery was made on sunday in germany. the cargo plane made stops in several african nations before it arrived at the air base.

investigators are trying to determine how he was able to lodge himself in the landing gear without being spotted. >> and there's more to come.

>> the long for gotten wooden ship was found in 2010 in what was once an underground security complex. it was likely built in 1973 or soon thereafter in a shipyard here in philadelphia. what's more, the ship was made from the same kind of white oak trees used to build parts of independence haul. the settlement in a class action lawsuit between college players and the ncaaa will require testing for possible brain injuries. they will shell out $70 million

to fund that program. nts the settlement the association will prevent athletes who have sustained a concussion from returning to a game or practice that day. >> players are being returned to the game too early because of bad management. you are at risk for a serious long-term brain jur and that's what we're trying to prevent. >> that settlement does not provide any financial compensation. that would be pertaining to injuries. however, it does allow for individual players to sue for damages. >> right now 4:43. katie. >> very comfy outside. it does look like it's going to be a similar day to yesterday. cooler than average, comfortable for one thing. but we eventually start to see

some clouds building in here. basically you have cool air aloft and warmth at the surface with the sunshine and the sunshine works against itself and clouds build through the day helping that warm air to rise. i love that phrase, it's a good way to put it. as we go through the day here again, a couple of clouds, but it's still a nice one. you can see storm scan 3 not a heck of a lot going on. we start this off with a wire zoom. we do still have a couple of clouds, well off to the north and west. wet weather is not an issue for us. the cooler air aloft is going to help get some cloud cover going as the day goes on. there may end up being a little bit of a spoiler alert for this upcoming weekend maybe as early as tomorrow we start to see a shower or storm. here is why. you can still see the retrait of the latest cold front, the one from a few days ago, actually.

it hasn't completely cleared. because it's somewhat stalling, these pieces of energy move along it, and eventually we end up for potential for a shower or storm as early as tomorrow. probably friday, saturday and sunday. not necessarily a walsh-out, but it's not going to be ideal either. we look ahead to thursday. meanwhile today is a nice day, with sun initially maybe some clouds as the day progresses and it does still feel like fall. we'll drop it back down into the mid 60s tonight. it's also milder by comparison to what we'll find this morning. the next few days, 83 by saturday, 84 on sunday and there will be potential for showers around and the cloud cover helps limit the amount of heating that can go on. by next week we should be back to normal here. 87, 88 for monday and tuesday.

this morning's headlines. funeral services are set for monday for the three children killed in last week's car jacking and hit and run. hundreds remembered the three as questions rise about one of the suspects was even on the streets. >> at least 15 people were killed early today in gaza when israeli rockets hit a united nations school where palestinians had taken refuge. 90 people were injured. last night was israel's heaviest assault in three weeks of fighting. it's 4:50. let's get to our business news right now. >> good morning. the messaging company posted strong second quarter earnings driven in part by soccer fans from around the world. twitter said users sent more than 672 million tweets during the tournament.
