this large display behind me. these candles have burned throughout the night. >> palestinian health officials claimed nearly 20 people died when shells tore through classrooms at this united building today. >> reporter: we understand that the victims of this crash, two of them still in the hospital. one of them in critical condition. the other one recovering from broken bones. what we've learned now is that one of the suspects in this, cornelius crawford has been in and out of prison and was out on parole for at least the second time before this crash happened. some experts say it's a matter of money that he simply was a in a situation where the system needed a bed and he could have been still in prison and out on the streets able to commit this crime. we'll have more information for you as we dig deeper into the

yet another cool morning. erica said earlier on that she thought maybe about putting a jacket on yesterday and i have to say i brought it along with me just in case, but it's just at that point where i can get away without it. it's one of those mornings. so depending on location, you may want to think about an extra fleece as you hit the road today. or maybe you're going to take the dog for a walk, it's a little cooler outside. certainly if you slept with the windows open last night, you're waking up and it's feeling comfy out there. it is a day that will feature high pressure roolg the roost. but if you look closely just below the time stamp here, some stormy weather has actually started to crop up here. so none of that is going to survive as it tries to roll our way, but it could produce a few clouds. in the meantime, these are numbers we need to hit in order

to tie record lows today. we're going to flirt with them, i don't think we're going to quite get with them. you need mid, upper 50s. already at 53 degrees in allentown. 59 in trenton currently and you're cool by comparison, 61 degrees in atlantic city. 63 in philly as the list goes on. 50 in quakertown. that's a jacket kind of a morning. feel like fall out there, a dose of september for a second day straight. we really underachieved yet, we couldn't break out of the 70s even at the city. you're expected to hit 79 for the most part. it might be one of those days where you're dodging a stray storm. >> it feels like a good start when you open up the front door.

5:04. we're off to a pretty good start too as far as the traffic situation goes. let's check some of our cameras. downtown the vine street expressway up the middle there, no problems between i-95 and the skrook expressway. here is vine street local as you work year way toward the ben franklin bridge three lanes coming into philadelphia at least at the moment, if you're heading towards new jersey, keep in mind the long-term construction taking out the right lane 24/7. we just got word of a water main break in flower town. and folk road down here in wilmington should down. otherwise the rest of the bridges look fine and mass transit running with no delays. erica back to you. >> they're drying out in southern california after this water main erupts right near

ucla's campus. that massive break shot millions of gallons of water into the skies stranding drivers and chasing pedestrianings down walkways. >> reporter: this was not the doing of mother nature. it's what happens when a 93-year-old water main breaks, asphalt buckles, concrete cracks and a geyser shoots 30 feet in the air. >> i see water pouring out. >> 35,000 gallons of water gushd out every minute severely damaging a small portion of ucla's campus. it took crews 3 and a half hours to shut off the water. >> it's not the easiest place to get to at rush hour. >> as that was happening, cars were stuck and people were too. this is pauly pavilion of the it's an athletic complex done two years bag for $136 million. now it's in need of new repairs. in a nearby parnging garage, 200

cars were served. five people were trapped. one aided by a swift water rescue team. >> they got swept off their feet and got trapped underneath their car. >> luckily no one was hurt. by around 7:00 p.m. tuesday night, the geyser was just a trickle in a huge puddle of water on the iconic sunset boulevard. in the end, 8 to 10 million gallons of water was wasted in a state that is dealing with a historic drought. >> now happening today, eight of nine defendants busted in a drug ring that allegedly operated at main line schools have a pretrial conference. the suspects face conspiracy and drug distribution charges. prosecutors allege the ring's master minds recruited subdealers from five main line high schools. they are also accused of selling drugs at three colleges as well.

tense moments after the bomb squad is called in after reports of a drug lab. police responded to the second floor of this apartment on ninth and spring garden street last night. they found pipes, a pressure cooker and a growing operation. investigators determined nothing illegal was found so no charges will be filed. a man remains in critical condition this morning after he is shot near temple university's campus. it happened around 9:30 last night. medics rushed him to temple hospital with a gun shot wound to the chest. police are questioning the driver involved in a single car crash in north philadelphia. police say they tried to stop the car but did not pursue the driver before the accident. the driver suffered minor injuries. police have not filed charges. police are also investigating this crash. it happened in bucks county. chopper 3 over route 14 near

i-95 in bristol township. investigators say a trash truck landed on top of a minivan after both vehicles left the interstate and turned left on to 413. amazingly the family of three in that minivan survived with only minor injuries. the truck driver was not hurt. >> the parents who were front seat passengers of the minivan had already self extricated themselves. it was just a teenaged boy in the middle row that was still entrapped. i saw him hug a paramedics that was inside the van with him. >> incredible they're all okay. if you know anything about that collision you're asked to call the bristol township police safety unit. >> the time is now 5:09, just released this morning the results of a new round of crash tests and this time the focus is on small electric cars. >> also ahead, some unbelievable video here of a train running over two women who were trying to cross a railroad bridge. see how they survived ahead. >> and an urgent health warning about mosquitos in new jersey.

moing everyone. two women narrowly escaped death while crossing a railroad bridge in indiana. >> and all caught on camera too. remember that scene from "stand by me"? pretty similar. two women came face to face with a train while trespassing on a bridge over lake lemon. 80 feet off the ground and no where to go. the women lie down on the tracks and let the train pass over them. >> they had an engineer who thought he had killed two people. they crawled out from under the freight cars, the engineer was shaken up but he asked them if they were okay. one of them yelled that she had stubbed her toe, but otherwise fine. >> wow. railroad ofthss alerted indiana police of the incident. those women were identified and they could be facing charges. just incredible that they're all right. >> unreal. >> 5:15 right now.

how are we looking today? >> it looks very much like yesterday did. we're going to start out with bright sunshine, overall it's a nice day, cool, comfortable. so we will go two for two. how does that sound? we've got some other issues that i do want to talk about. storm scan 3, i want you to look up to the northwest towards toronto. we don't have to worry about them here. maybe up inle poconos you pick up on a quick shower, but generally we do stay dry today. here is the frontal boundary that passed through sunday night. it hasn't quite cleared out and it's actually becoming somewhat stalled. that will eventually lift back in and bring us our next shot for showers and storms. there is still an area of showers and storms showing better signs of organization it's got the potential to a become a tropical depression, but it might even become bertha

on the health watch this morning, a mosquito borne virus headed through the caribbean has made its way to injuries. >> residents have tested positive for chikungunya. it's rarely fatal. meanwhile the state health department has said it's find west nile. fever, muscle weakness, vomiting and dizziness. so far no one tested positive for west nile. >> the timing of a person's heart attack could mean the difference between life and death. researchers found patients who arrive at the hospital during evenings or weekends or holidays have a higher risk of dying when compared to patients who arrived normal workday hours. the study blamed the discrepancy on hospital staffing. he inspired a city, now he
