developing right now, the violence rages on in the middle east. the crisis is now in its 23rd day with a new round of bombings overnight. we'll have a full report for you coming up on all the new developments. >> but first a family restaurant is making a lot of noise with a bizarre policy. even though families are their main customers, their noisy children are not welcome. >> first a check on traffic and weather together. katie, looking pretty nice. >> overall we've got a pretty decent day. it cannot last forever, of course. so i've got to throw in chances for showers and storps along the way. i'll tell you when to expect that coming up. bob? >> 5:31. we're dealing with an overturned vehicle on the schuykill expressway. this just happened as police are pulling up in the scene. if you look real close, you can see the car on its roof here. this is the eastbound schuykill

expressway. this is going to cause problems for the beginning of our rush hour. i'll have the rest of the details coming up next. >> thank you bob. developing now a live look at gaza as israel is striking symbols of hamas's control and leaving dust over the territory. meanwhile, tank shells also damaged a school that palestinians turned into a shelter. at least 15 people are dead. hamas has ruled out a ceasefire until israel lifts a blockade. >> reporter: the building was being used as a shelter for people trying to flee the fighting between israel and hamas militants. the around-the-clock violence has been raging on for 23 days.

air strikes illuminated the sky over gaza as israel targeted dozens of hamas terrorist sites. hamas shows this video showing its fighters to infiltrate israel. the country says its iron dome system continues to block rockets fired from gaza. john kerry has tried to broker a truce between the two sides amid mounting criticism. >> this is not about me but about whether or not there is a way forward that could avoid loss of soldiers for israel and the loss of civilians in everywhere. >> reporter: the turmoil brought the leader of hamas's military wing out of hiding yesterday. in a rare address, he vowed to keep up the fight and said there will be no ceasefire until israeli aggression stops and the blockade of gaza's border is

lifted. >> it's 5:33. >> we are expecting a nice day to unfold here. once again we'll start off with some sunshine. we'll end up with a couple of clouds as the day goes on. it's warm but not hot and for late july we would typically be in the middle of those dog days of summer. really not getting in on that right now. but eventually with time, heat for one thing and humidity do start to build back in and so does our potential for showers and storms. it had to happen at some point, right? for now things are still very calm, very quiet and very cool as well. we're going t take a tour of temperatures as well. you can see some showers and storms a localized pocket of heavy rain just through the southwestern-most corner of upstate new york. none of that should survive as it tries to move our way. the greater part of the valley is going to stay rain-free here

today with sunshine and a handful of clouds. there are a couple of spots that are flirting with records right now. allentown you would have to hit 50 in order to at least tie the record. so you're at least 3 degrees off ring. you would have to hit 52 and mountain pocono just 3 away. your record is 42 setback in 1968. everybody else is 5 degrees or more away from the record. the point here is that it's a cool start. 55 is the current temperature outside. starting to see some of the light of day coming up over the horizon. i don't think you'll have any major visibilitys out there today. meanwhile today should end up with more sun than anything. your high reaching about 81 degrees. it's still feeling like september out there. >> 5:35 good morning. we have problems right now on the schuykill expressway. here is a

schuykill. police are pulling up, we have the rescue crews and it looks like temporarily here, all lanes are blocked on the eastbound side coming into philadelphia. this just happened about five, ten minutes ago. so crews are still trying to work their way through the backup to respond to the scene. it's eastbound, just east of the curve. if you're heading to the airport this morning, this is going to be in your way if you stick with the schuykill. take 476 south down towards st. david's villa nova. the blue route will connect you with i 95 and give you access to philly international. otherwise if you're heading through the airport area on i-95, keep in mind that construction project that they've been working on here,

the uneven pavement, the bridge is looking fine at the movement and mass transit running with no delays. >> our time is 5:37. in business news this morning where wegmans is expected to turn up next. >> also the next theme park in orlando will have a colorful name. jill wagner joins us now from the new york stock exchange. >> reporter: good morning. it's a big day here on wall street as the government releases the gdp estimate for the second quarter. yesterday the dow lost more than 70 points, the nasdaq fell about 2. it's been named the best supermarket chain in america by consumer reports, and now wegmans is adding 10 new stores over the next year or two in the northeast and mid atlantic regions. wegmans is known for its fresh food and its good treatment of workers. kra yoe la is adding some color

to florida. they're building a $70,000 square foot interactive family attraction in orlando. it will feature 25 hands-on activities including one where kids can reate their own color. if the crayola experience is a success, they could build more across the country. and microsoft is looking to jump on the selfie craze. the text giant is launching two new window phones. the other is described as an affordable high-end phone. both are expected to hit store shelves very soon. you know, if only they could help us get a longer arm, you know, for those selfies? >> get a pole to hold the thing out. >> i got one for you. >> you're 6'10". >> i wish. >> right now it is 5:38. the ntsb is blaming conrail for

a november 2012 derailment in paulsboro. they found the train rolled past a signal. a conductor looked beforehand and said he found no problem. the ntsb also said conrail failed to follow its own consultant's advice to close the bridge after prior problems. in a statement conrail says it regrets the incident. their report also criticized local emergency officials for the handling of the toxic gas release. >> the time is 5:39 and we just received new crash test results. small cars especially electric and hybrid cars are more popular than ever. the insurance institute for highway safety put electric cars through a newer and tougher crash test as part of a test of small vehicles. and the reports are mixed. >> reporter: the mini cooper countryman was the only small

car to receive a good rating in crash tests by the insurance institute of highway safety. >> the occupant was well restrained, side curtain air bags, frontal air bags, seat belts all worked great together. >> the institute performed its in your test on 12 small cars. the 40 mile per hour crash simulates what happens when the front corner of a car collides with another vehicle or tree. it's the first time the institute performed this particular test on electric and hybrid vehicles. the ford hybrid, and electric chevy volt received acceptable ratings. the volt was the only car in the test group to earn the 2014 top safety pick plus, the institute's highest award. >> it also rewards vehicles that have forward collision warning systems and systems with autonomous breaking. >> the competitor the nissan leaf rated 4.

here is a look at today's headlines. funeral services are set for monday for the three victims of friday's car jacking. hundreds attending a vigil for

the victims in north philadelphia. some want to know why one of the suspects in the car jacking was even out of jail. >> at least 15 palestinians were killed and 90 injured in israeli's latest bombardment of gaza. hamas says it will continue firing rockets as long as israel's blockade stays in place. >> a water main burst under l.a.'s sunset boulevard yet sending 35,000 gallons a minute into the air. the situation lefted ucla campus flooded, and 8 million gallons of water were spilled. >> just at 5:43. katie, if you like yesterday, i think you'll like today? >> yeah. it looks like a similar day overall. talk about the overall pattern. we do have some cool air aloft that may help trigger not just a couple of showers and storms, but we'll probably end up with a handful of maybe an isolated shower or storm.

but more than anything a handful of clouds here locally as the day progresses. here is actually -- let me good. let me zoom it out one more time here for you. i hit the button too many times. so here is your frontal boundary. the same one that brought in all your storms sunday night is still here. what does all that mean as it pertains to our forecast? what's happening is an area of high pressure is building off to the east of that front, not letting it go anywhere. eventually pieces of energy are going to ride up along that front and we end up with the potential for more showers and storms with time. so especially toward the weekend, it looks like we've got that possibility here. so today still looking lovely. maybe seeing a shower if not a localized thunderstorm late in the day tomorrow. friday a similar day. it's also starting to heat up and steam up and the clouds roll in to limit the amount of heating that goes on but there is a good shot that we end up with showers as we look ahead to

saturday and it's still possible for us on sunday. so i hate to be the bearer of that news. we've had so many gorgeous weekends. we've got to end that pattern at some time and it does look like this weekend that we see over the break. >> that's not good for me going to the billy joel concert this weekend. >> live look at the schuykill expressway. we are shut down right now on the eastbound side because of an accident that involved this overturned vehicle. we had the rescue squad take a person to the local hospital. what they're doing now is uprighted the vehicle trying to get this off of the travel lanes. now all eastbound traffic is shut down. this is between conche and the gladwell interchange. here is the spot just passed the curve. locally you can take route 23.

that will get. but if you're headed from the king of prussia area trying to get to the city or an airport for a flight this morning, take 476, the blue route south down to 95 north and that will connect you with not only philly international, but also further north you'll be able to work your way into the city. a water main break here in flower town. >> the u.s. defense department is investigating how the body of a child stow away got into the wheel well of an air force cargo plane. the discovery was made in germany on sunday. authorities say the cargo plane stopped in several african nation the and italy before arriving at the air base. american and germ man officials are working to determine the boy's age, identity and exactly where he got on that plane.

we're also learning of a local collection of a shipwreck found in ground zero. a new report based on the rings in the wood finds it was likely build in 1773 or soon after in a shipyard right here in philadelphia. it appears the ship was made from the same kind of white oak trees used to build parts of independence hall. >> a settlement in the class action between college players and ncaa will require testing for possible concussion related brain injuries. the ncaa will shell out $70 million to fund the program. the association will also prevent athletes who have sustained a concussion from returning to a game or practice that day. >> players are being returned to the game too early because of bad concussion management. if you go to the game too early, you are at risk for a serious

long-term brain injury and that's what we're trying to prevent. >> the settlement does not provide financial compensation for injuries, but allows for individual players to sue for damages. one california restaurant is getting some heat about its controversial policy on noisy children. the owner of the old fisherman's grotto in monterey says noisy chern are not allowed in his restaurant. the owner says if you don't like his policy, then hey, don't eat at his restaurant. >> if a place has rules, you go in and abide by the rules or you find a place that's more suitable to your dining. >> i think it's ridiculous. i think kids need to know how to behave in restaurants and if you don't take them to them they don't know how to behave and they shouldn't be kept hidden away. >> the owner says he doesn't care if people are offended and he adds imposing his policy does not affect his bottom line. in fact it's the complete opposite. his business continues to grow
