>> when he came on the property, two suspect came upon him with guns, basically ordered him off the property. >> police say the home security system prompted officers to stop by the house. at the door, it was one of the robbers who answered, the officer asked for id, at which point the suspect made the female resident go to the door to get rid of the police. the officer asked her is everything okay, and she says yes, verbally, but winings that not is all okay. so the officer being alert as he was enters the foyer. >> when the officer went inside the male resident made break for the front door. one of the robbers came running into the foyer, was surprised to end up face-to-face with the officer, and then pointed his gun at the officer's pen and fired. >> we believe this discharged three times, thank god the officer was not struck. the officer himself, he fired from his gun, multiple times, and he did strike it the male suspect. >> the one robber pronounced dead at the scene, but the

second one ran out the back door during the shoot-out. >> now, the house next-door to where this took place actually has some damage, some holes in the walls from all of the shots that wrecks changed, we understand that the k9 unit, has been out here, but they've not been able to identify that second robber, to find him, rather, yet. live in northeast, cleve bryan, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> lee, thank you. we have some breaking news right now from the middle eels. looking live at the gaza strip. gaza officials say at least four palestinians had been killed by israeli tank fire. it happened nearly two hours after israel and hamas began observing three-day cease-fire. israeli army spokesman in jerusalem says the military is looking into that incident. meanwhile secretary of state, john kerrey; hoping to hammer out a more permanent settle settlement. it is up to the parties, all of them, to take advantage of this moment. there are no guarantees. >> the us is sending delegation to cairo for the

negotiations. the white house has also pledged $47 million in humanitarian aid. ukee? >> back home in wilmington, delaware, the lanes, at least some of the lanes, are back open. that's what we're talking about right now, delaware senator tom carper touring the i495 bridge in wilmington today, del dot closed you may remember back in early june 2nd, when they realized some of its support columns were tilting. that shutdown traffic along 495 between terminal avenue and 12th street. traffic reopened on the southbound lanes about a month ahead of schedule. now, crews had been working 24/7 to get traffic moving once again, commuters are relieved big time they can use that bridge again. >> a mess, 95 been back up, be late for work, everything. >> all of the damage sports they've drilled 32 holes down to bedrock, filled them with reinforced concrete. and that's what is now supporting the bridge. so it is actually stronger than it was before. >> reporter: i use that bridge a lot myself headed back and forth to november.

northbound lanes of i4959 should reopen by labor day. just past 5:03, let's get your traffic and weather together. kate? >> ukee, if you got any plans, perhaps headed down that brand new bridge, you're opening here for the weekend, just keep in mind that the weather may not necessarily be on your side. unfortunately it, does look like we will be dealing with at least some showers, very likely steady rain for some of you as we kick off the weekends, meantime today also will probably feature shower or even thunderstorm as well. let's explain, start it off, just by taking you out there. i obviously do not need my umbrella neither do you. wet weather will start to move n see the clouds already starting to funnel n i do think we start off with some sun, but at a bit more of a premium throughout the day. already see the leading edge of the moisture starting to creep across virginia, eventually arrives in the form of showers. then again maybe thunderstorm in there, too. taking a look at august, you know, as we kick off new month here, typically the temperatures start to drop back off. we peak with our heat, late

july. so, now, starting to see the trends turn little bit averaging it all out we would normally see monthly temperature of about 85. today, actually shy of that, right now at 72 degrees, so we start off mild, but don't have chance to warm up all that easily simply because we'll start to see the clouds build in. shooting for 83, 80 at the shore, clouds thickening, shower around, thunderstorm, and there will also be some of that going on up toward the poconos, too. no one is necessarily free of the activity here today. but if you want to see the driest forecast, you will want to head further north, and west, into the weekend. bob, we send it into you. >> good morning, everybody, 5:05, off to pretty good start this friday morning, tgif. grabbing your coffee and keys, outside, live look at the vine st. expressway into or out of philadelphia, light volume so far this morning. roads dry. off to pretty good start there. do have accident northeast philadelphia, academy road, between grant avenue and morrell avenue. academy blocked right now, that's the stretch that boarders right there northeast

airport. so maybe the boulevard would be your best bet until they can get that situation cleared up. as we just heard from ukee, 495 south, reopened, this morning, so that's great news, especially on a friday, and in the summertime, most of that volume on a friday afternoon is heading south, trying get down toward the delaware beaches. so southbound is open. however, northbound, little bit more pain before the gain. you industrial to hang with 95 as the alternate. the rest of the major roadways, 95, from northeast philly, into center city looking good. no problems yet on the schuylkill expressway, they are still working on the northeast extension here in the construction zone, right near lansdale until about 6:00. and of course, with it being a friday, in the summertime, a lot of that volume on friday afternoons will be headed south to the jersey shore. but right now, if you are coming in toward philadelphia on the freeway, you're in good shape. mass transit running with no delays. ukee, back over to you. >> thank you, bob. new this morning, 30th street station is about to have a new name.

the senate voted last night to rename the train station in honor of former philadelphia congressman, bill gray the third. gray helped to get millions of dollars to refurbish the station, as soon as president obama signs the bill, the building will be known as william gray the third, 30th street station. new this morning, be careful. red light cameras now operating at three intersections in montgomery county. they're located at abington and moreland, and fitzwatertown roads. old york and welsh roads, and old york and susquehanna. now, those cameras, which were turned on at midnight, are what officials say are three of the busiest and most dangerous intersections. 100-dollar fines don't kick in, though, until october. pennsylvania lawmakers have postponed a vote on the cigarette sales tax, and philadelphia mayor mike nutter is not happy. the tax money would help funds philadelphia's schools. now, the house was supposed to vote on the tax monday. superintendent doctor bill hite has previously said if the district did not get that money, layoff notices would go

rise. investigators think leaking gas that built up in sewers triggered the multiple explosions. at least one american aid worker infected with ebola will be flown back to the u.s., will be house in the highly secure unit at a hospital in atlanta david begno has more now on the evacuation effort. >> right now, there are two american missionaries, isolated in liberia, and diagnosed with ebola. they are doctor kent brantly of texas, nancy rightbold of north carolina. they're in grave condition but said to be stable. experimental serum was available. doctor brantly asked it be given to nancy. there was only enough for one patient. >> we don't really know how a effective the serum will be in this instance of ebola because it really hasn't been done very frequently before if at all. >> doctor brantly given unit of blood from one every his patients who recovered from ebola. emory university hospital in atlanta now says an infected american will be brought there in the neck several days and

placed inside a high security ward isolated from others. the identity of that american is unknown. the cdc has issued highest possible warning, level three. advising americans to avoid innocent-essential travel to liberia, guinea, sierra leone, where some 1300 people have been ill with ebola more than 700 have died. right now there are 20 quarantine centers in the u.s. most at airports ready to isolate travelers who show symptoms of ebola. david begno, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". 5:13, here's your traffic and weather together. katy? >> ukee, happy friday everybody. always love when i can say that to you. actually going to ends up being unfortunately not the best pattern that unfold here, but at least we have the week toned look forward to, right? at least going to get some sunshine to start the day off here. eventually some of what you see over my shoulder as we take it full screen on storm scan3, moisture starts to work its way in, does start to bring in potential at least for some pretty steady rain.

that's specially true for the weekend, for today, it is mainly just scattered czar variy of showers, maybe rumble every thunder, but you can tell just by looking at the trails of clouds and precipitation, this whole flow is coming straight out of the southwest. so getting a little southern built of the southern draw start to work its way in here. so what's it really mean for us? let's walk you through all of t currently quiet outside whitfield elementary school, traffic going up and down the street here, no wet weather yet. we start off with sun, eventually shower or even thunderstorm will fire up. your pollen report, levels do start to drop off. you know what that means, when the levels drop off, something going on in the pattern. it is the fact that we will be dealing with some wet weather. grasses, chenopods, nettle, primary pollen issues. over the course of the weekend we barely hit 08 degrees here saturday, the clouds, the rain, will help limit the amount of warm that can take place. the best chance for rain looks like it is southeast of the city, but i definitely think we all get in on at least some showers here, both weekend

days, bob, over to you. >> morning, 5:14, a lot of stuff going on already here in the traffic department. going outside, live look at i95 northbound, already jammo, hitting the brakes here, into the construction zone, delaware county. this is live look at route 420, down to only one lane heading northbound, if you are getting early start to head to the airport, be ready to hit the brakes. it is all part of this overnight construction, and penndot is picking the cones up. until they get it cleared out, only one lane headed northbound. getting word of this fatal accident. here is the latest here in northeast philly, academy road is blocked, between grant avenue and morrell. right near the airport there. police investigating an early morning fatal crash, so when you use knights road as the alternate. also a crash up here in montgomery county, clump road, whitesmill road. busy on the extension, nascar coming to the pocono speedway this weekend, so we will see that extra volume, not only do we have weekend volume headed to the poconos, westbound got the nascar fans headed up there, as well.

philadelphia mosque is accused of bizarre crime. he's due in court. police say mitchell tried to cut off a worshipper's hand with a michetti. mitchell accused the worker every stealing jars of money from the mosque on north 63rd street. the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to put mitchell on trial. >> emergency responds nerves hoboken, new jersey thought they were saving a life instead they were saving a doll. passerby was walking down the street when they saw what look like a baby in a hot car, so they called 911. emergency responders arrived, smashed the window to save the baby but it was just a doll left in the carseat by the own he areas granddaughter. the car owner says all they had to do was take a closer look. >> well, you see the doll. >> paramount, between a baby breathing, not breathing, pulls, no pulse. >> emergency responders claim the doll looked very life-like, that you can

bumper here, this is route 420, headed up toward the airport. look, some folks even backing up on the shoulder here, now, if you are leaving the house right now, and headed north on 95, jump off at 420, and use 291. that will put you in to the airport area, and as alternate for 95, because right now look at the back up, some folks cutting it close to begin with trying to get their flight out. here is delays on this fatal accident, northeast philly, academy road closed between grant avenue and morrell. if you are headed through northeast philly this morning, that's academy of course boarders philly, northeast philly airport, you want to use the roosevelt boulevard as your best bet. later tonight begins the septa trolley blitz. they're closing the tunls in center city. so all of the subway surface trolleys will be diverting to 40th and market, for the next couple of weeks. they'll replace a lot of the overhead lights, the sign and, some of the rales, whole big track project that begins later tonight at 10:00 o'clock, here's ukee now

"eyewitness news" has been following this breaking news all morning long for you. >> good morning, "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is in the north woods section of northeast philly right now with the latest. cleve? >> reporter: good morning, right now there are many investigators on the scene, currently looking at this car right here, may be related to the two robbery suspects there is happened around 12:45 this morning. police say a couple were ambushed at that's front door by two mask men caring guns, forks the residents inside at gunpoint, and home security significant tell triggered. one of the suspect came to the door pretending to be resident, about as tooth officer asked for proof. he sent the female resident to the door to try too get ridf the cops. she said everything is okay, but gestured otherwise to their face. the officer went inside, which surprised the officers, police
