pedestrian dead in northeast philadelphia. >> good morning, also in the news, philadelphia police shoot and kill home invasion suspect in the northwood section of northeast fill. >> i this happened along the 900 block every wakling street, that's where "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan joins us with the latest information, clever, good morning. >> good morning, police presence has been scaled down in the last 15, 20 minutes, removed the crime scene tape, reopen castor avenue. but the investigation still continues into these two robbers attempted home invasion, but stopped by officer, who ultimately killed one of those robbers. nightmare scenario early this morning, as two mask men with guns ambush a couple at their front door. >> when they try to enter the property, the two male suspect came upon them, pointed gun and basically ordered them into the property. >> police say the home security system trick erred prompting officers to stop by the home. at the doors, one the robbers who answered, the officer alertly asked for suspect made the female resident go to

the door to get rid of police. >> officers ask her is everything okay, yes verbally, but winks that not all is okay. so the officer being as alert as he was enters the foyer. >> when the officer went inside male suspect made a belt for the for the door. was surprised to ends up face-to-face with the officer. he then pointed his gun at the officer ' head and fired. >> we believe discharge about three times toward the officer. thank god the officer was not struck. >> officer himself fired from his gun multiple times, did he strike the male suspect. >> the one robber was pronounced dead at the scene, but the second one ran out the back door during the shoot-out. >> police still looking for the other suspect, right now don't have meche after deaths script sean, and the god news in all of this is that nobody was injured whether in the police department or the residence here, we understand the police officer as per the

the cbs-3 skydeck, i look straight up, see little blue sky. look behind me, we face south, and it is basically all just gray skies. that's because we've got moisture, and clouds, and a potential for some wet weather, all headed our way, coming straight up broad street, basically, go ahead, we start things off with a look at storm scan3, you can see that, by following the movement of the clouds. the moisture, the clouds, beginning to creep our way, so, while we start off dry, it is definitely more humid out here this morning, i can tell that you much, also milder, but ends up with some showers. looking at the rainfall comparisons among the models here, generally expectation is around philadelphia, specific to philadelphia, we may end one close to an inch worth of rain by the time the weekends is all said and done. going to see heavy rain, it will be out toward the shore, especially going to be for the morning, of saturday, sunday, for now, we're calm, but starting to gather up that moisture, 72 at the airport, little cooler through the outlying suburbs obviously, and the days a a whole features temperatures that are held back because of the

clouds and because of the wet weather moving in. it should be more of a scattered nature, showers, perhaps thunderstorm, but dow think everybody's got good shot to see that, meanwhile, again, heaviest rain, when it does move in hereby tomorrow, is either out to sea or it will be clipping the jersey edge. >> friday morning, already comings here in the track center, going outside, live look, right now, northeast philadelphia looking liver, accident investigation, academy road closed, right alongside of northeast philly airport. that early morning crash, that turned fatal, police on the scene here this morning, and that investigation will continue for at least the beginning of our morning rush hour. this is the vehicle that was involved, and looking live there, at academy road, going to the maps with that stretch, academy road closed between grant and morrell. the roosevelt boulevard would be your best bet. maybe knights road, frandford avenue, as you work your way through northeast philadelphia this morning. another crash in chester

county, just outside of kennett square, route one northbound, right at route 41, otherwise, we're in good shape. light volume so far on the blue route. no problems on the schuylkill, 95, starting to see little volume at girard avenue, but that's typical for this hour. and good news, for motorists headed south through wilmington, specially for the weekend, southbound lanes every 459, are open, however, northbound, still remains closed, and you'll have to use that i95 as the alternate. mass transit running with no delays. erika, back over to you. >> bob, thank you. we have breaking news from the middle east right now, we want to give you live look here at the gaza strip. about two hours into a cease-fire, officials in gaza say israeli tank fire has killed at least four palestinians. now, israel and hamas militants had agreed to stop fighting for 72 hours. as susan macinnis reports, diplomats now working for permanent trues. >> smoke bill owed into the sky in gaza hours into what was supposed to be a temporary humanitarian cease-fire.

under the deal, brokered by the united nations and secretary of state, john kerrey, both side agreed put down their weapons for three days and attempt to forge a pass to peace. in comments thursday, secretary kerrey remained cautiously optimistic. >> a moment of opportunity, not an end. it is not a solution. it is the opportunity to find the solution. sees fired was designed to help palestinians receive urgent humanitarian relief like toed and supplies and time to care for their injured and bury the deadment even under the deal israeli forces say they would press on with main megs destroying hamas built tunnels leading to the jewish state. in weeks of fighting, more than 1400 palestinians have been killed. gaza psychologist, sammy, expressed concern about how the shellshock and depress will cope.

avenue. light volume again so far this morning, going to the northeast, academy road still closed between grant and morrell. accident investigation, use the roosevelt boulevard or maybe knights road, or frankford avenue, until that investigation wraps up. going to be a busy weekends, not only do we have the weekend summertime folks headed to the poconos, nascar coming to the pocono speedway. the pocono 400 taking place saturday, sunday, so we'll see a lot of extra volume headed north up toward the speedway. then on sunday, the second street festival comes to town, closing second street from girard over to spring garden, that's an all day deal there, on sunday, and of course today ac friday, headed to the beach, crunch time starts between 12:00 and 2:00 headed to the shore, back over to you. >> a dramatic rescue in san diego caught on cell phone camera. it was taken after a small plane crash landed in a parking lot yesterday. now, the plane, burst into flames, and good samaar tis returned in to help. they pulled out the 52 year old pilot to safety.

the plane was circling back after bouncing the landing at the nearby airport. the pilot could not regain altitude. i was talking to her through the window. and i said we got to get you out of this plane, it is on fire. she said my leg is broken, broken real bad, i'm pinned in here. i said okay, but we got to get you out of here. i look hine her, right then the whole back seat just erupt in the flames. how scary. well the 78 year old passenger died in that crash. federal investigators are now investigating. your time 6:16. breaking news, leads this look at today's headlines on cbs-3. northeast philadelphia homeowner, gestures, to police, at her front door, that a home invasion is underway. one suspect fired at officers, police returned fire, shooting and killing the suspect. another suspect got away. >> also, a cease-fire in gaza broken in less than two hours by rockets from israel. palestinians say four people were killed. the war between israel and hamas is in its fourth week.

>> house in the hospital in atlanta. >> more now on the evacuation effort. >> right now, there are two american missionaries, isolated in liberia, and diagnosed with ebola. they are doctor kent brantly every texas, and nancy rightbold of north carolina they're in grave condition. but, said to be stable. and an experimental serum was available, doctor brantly asked that it be given to nancy. there was only enough for one patient. >> we don't really know how effective the serum will be in this instance of e bowl a, because it really hasn't been done very frequently before, if at all. doctor brantly given unit of blood from one of his patients who recovered from ebola. emory university hospital in atlanta now says an infected american will be brought there in the next several days. and placed inside a high security ward isolated from others. the identity of that american is unknown. the cdc has issued the highest possible warning, a level three, and advising americans to avoid innocent-essential travel to liberia, guinea,

sierra leone, where some 1300 people have become ill with ebola, more than 700 have died. right now, there are 20 quarantine centers in the u.s. most at airports ready to isolate travelers who show symptoms of ebola. it is 62:00; new revelations of former president billion had the chance to kill osama bin laden before nine/is one, the reason why he did not orders the kill when we come back. >> in sports, phillies let trade deadline pass without making a move. details coming up next.

>> updating breaking news right now, philadelphia police shoot and kill a suspect following a home invasion in the northeast. >> "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan, in the north woods section right now, to tell you more, cleve? >> good morning, well, credit very alert officer with stopping an armed robbery involving two men, that ambush the couple, getting into their house, just up the block here on wakling street in the north woods section of northeast philadelphia. all of this happened about 12:45 this morning, police say that the couple were coming home, two mask men jumped out with guns, forced the couple inside their home, at which

point alarm system triggered. police officers arrived, actually one of the robbers who answered the door pretending to be a resident. police officer smartly asked for id, at which point, the robber went back inside, forced female resident to answer the door. she said everything was okay. but gestured with her face that something was going on. the officer then went inside and surprised the robbers, one every which pointed a gun at the officer's head and fired. >> at the same time the suspect we believe discharges about three times toward the officer. thank god the officer was not struck, the officer himself he fired from his gun multiple times, and he did strike the male suspect. >> now, last half hour, so the police have killed back their presence on the street, but we understand, the search does continue for the one robber who ran out the back door, while that shoot-out was taking place. we'll continue to update you as we get more information. live in the northeast, cleve

bryan, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". and also, breaking right now, suspect the drunk driver is accused every killing a man walking on a sidewalk in northeast philly. chopper three over the scene, on academy road and avalon street, right near the northeast airport. police tell us the driver lost control of her suv, jumped the curve and hitman before crashing into a pole. the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and police are holding the driver on suspected drunk driving charges. bob's going to have any detours in that area for you coming up in just a few minutes. deadly shoot-out in nicetown. "eyewitness news", at bristol and hick street last night. three people were shot, one was killed, the victims are at temple university hospital, where one was stable and the other in critical condition. police have not made any arrests. the winslow police department is offering $3,000 for information leading to arrest in the case of a girl shot in her bedroom. that shooting happened on july 7th, after a gun fight involving at least two people, this was near haywood drive

and sicklerville, new jersey. a stray bullet went through the wall, hit a girl, and another woman. chopper three over deadly accident involving a septa train yesterday. a pedestrian was struck and killed by a norrihighstownpeed n havertown, near the penfield station. it happened just before 4:00. there is no word on the victim's identity. it is 6:33, here's your traffic and weather together. >> happy friday, everybody, good morning, you know, we are at least starting off with little sunshut y b can probably tell where i'm going with that. eventually the clouds start to build in. do start to see the pattern going downhill. not a wash out necessarily, but you know not as gorgeous acylate weekends -- last weekends was. we had beautiful friday. weekend wasn't half bad either. but this is going to be pattern that progressively just starts to go downhill with time. you can already see, why, i mean, some of the wet weather clearly visible, off across virginia, right now, though, we have more clouds than anything. and eventually we're going to be dealing with this sort of plume of moisture getting pushed in fm the south

because almost like squeeze play thing that's going on here with the pattern. essentially, little trough tries it move in from the northwest, more than anything, it is a stalled front, being nudged back, so with that, these piece of moisture move along it, ends up likely mainly showers, but will also be potential for some of you specially at the shore points to get soaked by tomorrow. maybe even on sunday. now, as it stands right now, we're flirting with 70 at the moment, outside lower merion high school. you can tell there are clouds out there. sort of an overcast start. but little glimmer of sunlight out there. friday hits 83, we start with, again, shower or storm around throughout the day. tomorrow, sunday, though, look like our weather days of the next three. mainly in the morning. and again, it is still just chance right now that we ends up with heavy rain. bob more than anything, you just have to watch out for clouds and showers. >> i am my umbrella hat ready for the billy joe concert. >> best image ever. >> yes, billy joel, 6:34, good morning, everybody, rough go already this morning, busy in the traffic center. going for a ride.

chopper 31st, i'm going to give you the good news, all of the southbound lanes of the 495 bridge reopened, breaker one-nine, tractor-trailer rolls on the sound bound side of the bridge. del dot reopened this stretch yesterday around 5:00 o'clock. so this is great news for anyone heading south for the weekend, especially down to the delaware beaches. grab coke and a smile as you head southbound on that bridge. now, the northbound side, they say maybe couple more weeks. this should certainly ease congestion through wilmington. to the live camera here, the schuylkill expressway, ramps from the boulevard to the schuylkill. they just pushed an accident out of the way there. and that's causing an early back up on the boulevard here, from broad street all the way down through the schuylkill expressway. i told but an accident on the turnpike involving a motorcycle. turns out the motorcyclist was just asleep on the side of the roadway. no accident. but a lot of police activity responded to this situation. i'm sure he's going to leave

with a ticket. but westbound on the turnpike, west of valley forge, just watch for some slow downs. otherwise, mass transit looking good with no delays. erika, back over to you. >> bob, thank you. updating breaking news now in the middle east, three day cease-fire between israel and hamas did not last long. say israeli tank fire has killed four palestinians hours into the cease-fire. it started at 1:00 this morning our time. now you are getting live look at the gaza strip. earlier, secretary of state, john kerrey, called for a cease-fire. he called it a chance for both sides to come together. this will last for 72 hours, three days, precious time. it is a lull of opportunity. >> now, there is still negotiations for trues in the gaza war now in its fourth week. the day before the terror attacks on 9/11, former president bill clinton revealed that he could have killed osama bin late end to a group of businessmen in australia. take a listen now to the tape. >> i could have killed him.

but i would have had to destroy a little town called cans hear in afghanistan, killing 300 innocent women and children. then i would have been no better than him. and so i didn't do it. >> the recording became public wednesday. the 9/11 commission report documented the proposed 1998 strike on kandahar, noting joint chiefs of staff advised the former president against the attack. philadelphia police officers have a new three year contract, arbitration panel awarded officers a 3% raise in the first year, and 3.25% raise the second and third year. new contract also gives the police commissioner the right to rotate officers out of the narcotics and internal affairs unit. this follows the federal indictments of six philadelphia narcotics officers. i know that because of what happened yesterday, a lot of people are looking at it as strictly a disciplinary issue, it is not. >> this gives opportunity to other officers to be able to good hard-working officers to

be able to experience working in some of these units. >> main concern for our officers out there is their medical coverage, and monday any their pocket. and i think this delivered both. >> now, the mayor says that the new contract will cost the city $70 million over budget. baltimore ravens running back, ray rice, is issuing public apology for allegedly assaulting his then fiancee, atlantic city elevator. former rutgers star apologized for the alleged assault, giving him two game suspension. he was arrested in february accused in february altercation at the revel hotel and casino. rice says it was his lowest low. >> i made a huge mistake, i want to own it, i want to tell in you front of my teammates i made a huge mistake t hurts because i can't go out there and play if the ball t hurts more that i got to be a father and explain what happened to my caughter. >> rice also said when the time is right, he and his wife want to help other couples affected by domestic abuse. your time coming up on
