"eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo live tonight with the latest developmentments.

>> reporter: natasha, investigators have now released the identity of the man who was shot and killed here earlier today. he is 42 year old daniel pierre, now police have moved out of the area, but you can see, behind me, the loss that is felt here is weighing heavy on this community tonight. those flowers placed there along the roadside, as folks remember the man who died and relate sim pat toy his mother who he lives here with here in winslow township. investigators spent the better part of friday collecting evidence at this home on the 400 block of berlin new freedom road in wins lou township. police tape at the scene and police unfold how it happened. meanwhile across the street at the tavern, friends of the victim left stunned. >> will smith said he was just with his friends earlier this week. >> i was fishing with him monday. he seemed fine then. >> friday morning that friend was shot and killed. chopper three over the scene shortly after 8:30. much of the investigation that

followed centered on a camper close to the woods, friends tell cbs-3 the man lived on his property with his mother. >> never starts confrontation. nice guy. 's good-hearted person. he has a goodheart, so is his mother. we just don't know what happened. >> the camden county prosecutor's office is investigating and confirms this was an officer involved shooting, but it is unclear why police were at this home to begin with, and what prompted them to open fire. >> we don't know. everybody's curious why what happened. >> investigators weren't talking. a quiet community and in camden county now brought closer through the loss after friends. >> the tragic part for his mother, i know his mother, it is tragic. >> again, this man was recently identified as 42 year old daniel pierre by police, they're still investigating tonight. no injuries to any officers. meanwhile, we were able to speak to a relative of that man, he says, unfortunately, he had fallen into drugs recently, and may have had some sort of altercation with his mother the night before.

again, police are still investigating. we're coming to you live from winslow township, jan carabeo, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". >> jan, thank you. breaking news right now, a missing boater in atlantic county may just be alive and on the run. it was believed that andrew biddle was on board a upon tune boat that crashed into a jet any longport back on july 20th. but now, egg harbor township police are circulate ago flyer saying that biddle may be alive and well and on the run. biddle and another man are facing theft charges in atlantic county involving both sales. another didley police involved shooting there is one in northeast philadelphia. police say two men, forced couple into their home on wakling street about 12:30 this morning. setting off the home alarm. when police arrived, one of the gunmen told the female resident to go to the door.

>> asked her is she okay, she nodded but wingks like not is all okay. the officer enters the foyer. >> police say one of the suspects pointed his gun at the offers' head and fired. luckily the officer pushed the gun to the side and returned fire killing the gunman. officer was not hurt, the other suspect remains on the loose. >> police in cherry hill, new jersey, looking for who ever left suspicious device near walking trail. chopper three over the scene, as officers investigating. the device found at about 7:00 this morning on the corner of brace road, for ton mill road. police say it was crudely capped piece of tv sea pipe. no other devices were found. well, developing news tonight, education activists are growing in their outrage over the stalled cigarette sales tax. designed to help close the philadelphia school district's budget gap. right now, protesters are governor corbett's office, demanding that lawmakers takings. protest, matt? >> protesters outside of the governor's offers, live picture whatever they look like right now, chanting for about 20 minutes now, and they tell us they are angry over the fact that this cigarette tax will not be voted on before school's open. but why was that special session to vote on that cigarette tax canceled, and what happens next? we post those questions to lawmakers earlier today. >> no special session on monday means no vote on the philly 2-dollar per pack cigarette tax. no tax means less funding for philly schools. sad news for district already reeling. superintendent william hit height joined "eyewitness news" this morning, on friday. >> i'm annoyed that we're once again in this position, and i'm a nowed we're once again talking about our inability to provide sufficient education for our young children. >> house republican leadership said the session was canceled because the bill was too complicated. officials said it had too many amendments, weighing it down with non-school related items.

but some democrats said it really came down to anti-philly buy as from out of town lawmakers. >> on the part of some legislatures, they don't want to come back for something that is exclusively pertaining to philadelphia public schools. >> but, some republicans disagreed. set grove, republican representative from york, said he could vote for the tax, as long as comprehensive property tax reform went along with it. but he does concede that philly's issues don't seem to end. >> every budget year it is another philadelphia issue because of financial situation or philadelphia. >> there is no doubt philly schools are in rough shape, likely will be for some time. but no matter where you fall on the issue, it is philadelphia's 200,000 public school children that bear the brunt of this budget battle. and school district officials also said around 1,000 jobs could be shed by mid-august if the state does not provide more funding. coming up at 6:00 we'll talk to one local public school principal who tells us if that

stephanie? >> reporter: just got bamm from temple. the current ebola outbreak is the worse in history. but there have been other smaller episodes in africa. well i talked to a temple doctor who was there helping with those previous outbreaks. >> are you concerned about this outbreak now, and do you think that it poses any dangers to the united states? >> i am concerned about the outbreak, mainly for west africa. our level of infection control in our hospitalization is at such a higher level compared to rural africa. >> doctor arlene is an infectious disease doctor at temple university hospital. in 2007, she was the head of an epidemiological unit at the centers for disease control and traveled to ooh gone did a and the democratic republic of congress owe to help those nations battle smaller ebola outbreaks. >> the main save controlling an outbreak is to be able to trace people and the more people that move around the more difficult it is to control an outbreak. >> reporter: now, doctor also previously worked at emory, where the ebola patients will

be treated. she says the facility there is well equipped to treat them and keep this virus contained. she says while there is a risk, a small risk that ebola could get into this country, she says we are much better equipped to handle the virus and keep it from spreading. also told me another big problem with this virus is identifying it quickly and that's hard to do. >> well, the healthcare community seems to have a pretty good grip on it here. that's very important. stephanie, thanks very much. meantime senator tom carper toured the i495 bridge job site today. a day after the southbound lanes over the christina river opened about a month ahead of schedule. carper shook hands with workers and viewed progress, it was made possible with the help of emergency federal funding. the goal here to blend temporary and permanent structures. some $20 million in federal funds was used, but the exact figures aren't yet known because the project does remain active. carper did reference the ongoing budget battles in

preserve the hairstyle outside tonight. it is a mess out there. some parts of the area are quiet. other parts are getting hit by heavy downpours. let's take a look outside. we take to you one spot, not looking all that night, that's the ocean city boardwalk, see tents set up along the board walk, in preparation for what promises to be a wet weekend. you can see the board are looking little bit wet. mainly light showers down the shore at the moment. that's not the site you want to see when you arrive for a weekends down the shore, unfortunately, let's take a look at storm scan3, which shows that the heaviest storms are actually north and west of the city right now, they're slow moves. they are scattered, but underneath anyone of these storms, you're getting very heavy rainfall. we zoom in again on this area, looking at the triple sweep now. you can see the heaviest newspaper portions of lehigh county. i take you right up there. along the northeast extension, south of allentown, upper milford, hanover, we looked at this storm 20 minutes ago it, really hasn't moved since then. doppler estimated precipitation rate right now 1.19 inches per hour. we actually did just have flood advisory issued for this

particular cell. want to take you back to storm scan3 for a second, show you what we're looking for later on in the weekend. because as we actually zoom down, into portions of the carolinas, that's where we're seeing some of the heavier rain. still a lot of moisture to go, guys, before we get through the weekends, you can see, here is the center of another low. that's lifting up the eastern seaboard, all of this rain has yet to come through on saturday, and it is going to hit specially our eastern zones, down the shore and into portions of south jersey, early to many morning. and then another round of rain, threatens for sunday. temperatures right now, 71 degrees at the airport, that's rain cooled. sevey-one in trenton, i tell you last hour it was 83 in reading, then storm come through, now down to 76, that rain can cool you off real quick. atlantic city at 76. here is the flood advisory i was telling but including allentown, milford, down toward the new hanover area. wet weekend, heavy rain specially east of the city here tomorrow morning. there may and break tomorrow afternoon and evening, a loft people asking about the billy joel concert. you may get it into tomorrow evening. then sunday, another threat

>> police say last saturday nieves snuck in while homeowners were away and took $100,000 in jewelry from the second floor master bedroom. it happened on the 900 block of board on landing road. >> my daughter's wedding was on saturday. and they were at our wedding. so that's. they came back and found out that the house had been broke mean. >> neighbors fear the thieves were watching the home, busted through deadbolt on the back door while the alarm system was disable because the homeowners were having work done. >> very upsetting, only so much you can do. >> there have been at least four similar break-in's in moorestown since the ends of june in the neighborhood near creek road less than mile apart from each other. and others like them, in delran, and westhampton, and the last week, those departments are all now washing -- working together. >> it method of entry was consistent with moorestown, that's still being worked on, but i do think there may be links based on the type of items taken, going right for the jewelry. >> police have stepped up
