>> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> now at 11:00 a search for answers after woman went for a run and was later found dead. now a neighborhood is on edge and in mourning. we have new details tonight in this still developing case. good evening, i'm jessica dean. >> i'm chris may. police are warning women in northeast philadelphia tonight to be especially cautious. that woman's body was found near

cemetery at holme and convent avenues in crispin gardens. our diane in rocco is live at police headquarters tonight with new details on what happened. diana. >> reporter: chris, this has simply sent shock waves through this northeast community. to night as hmm side detectives begin their investigation a grieving family is looking for answers. family and friends layed flowers by the spot where the body of 46 year old connie mclane muro was found tuesday morning. hours later, homicide detectives talked to possible witnesses and officers on motorcycles searched the popular northeast park. >> i'm back here all the time. i think this area real well. it's just real sad that something like this happened here. >> reporter: police arrived. he look after the home crispin cemetery. witnesses saw the woman behind these benches wearing running shorts an sports bra.

>> someone very sick and derr rangeranged had to do somethinge that. i hope they catch him. >> reporter: sources tell "eyewitness news" she was choked and beaten. there were signs of a struggle indicating she tried to fight back. police are also investigating the possibility she was sexually assaulassaulted. murray had gone running around 9:00 o'clock monday night when she didn't return by midnight her hub reported her missing. a neighbor heard commotion but at the time didn't think much of it. >> i just heard screaming at 9:29. about 9:27 actually. >> friends flood mclean murray's page book pitch with sympathy and outrage. off camera friends say she's the nicest woman she's ever known. >> it's really close to home, and i -- we're raising our kids here, you know, so it's just little bit frightening. >> mclean murray was wife and a mother of two daughters. police are still awaiting an official medical examiner's report to determine her cause of death.

we're live outside police headquarters tonight, diana rocco cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> diana, thank you. we are tracking our next chance for storms come our way tomorrow. there's also concern tonight about the remnants of tropical storm bertha and what it could do down the shore. meteorologist kathy orr has her eye on all of it. kathy? >> we're watch something clouds and some convection associated with berthas it continues to accelerate toward the north and the east and some clouds moving our way across the delaware valley night. but all of this is really being guide by a stationary front offshore it will can't to move our storm further away from the mainland u.s. right now bertha packing a 50 miles an hour wind. it's moving toward the northeast as tropical storm at 23 miles an hour and and will act set rate toward the north and be well off the coast of halifax by tomorrow evening. so it's going to be rather quick but even though the storm will be hundreds of miles away it will impact our weather. especially tomorrow bertha will bring us a high risk of rip currents all this water piling

toward the injuries seashore and the delaware beaches having no placing to be pulling out little bit slower and that creates that rip current risk. now locally we have a few scattered showers during the overnight. and another threat during the day tomorrow. coming up we'll talk more about our next chance of storms and also the unusual stretch that comes after that i'll have that later in the broadcast with the seven day. >> jessica. >> new information tonight were you a near drowning down the shore. a woman pulled under by a rep current in the waters off atlantic city is now in intensive care. last night police said that woman died after cpr at the soon was not successful but we learned late today she was revised after she was transpd some say that a it loans miraculous. but she still has challenges ahead as she reported suffered brain damage. >> new developments to night in the murder of a woman found in a wooded area of atlantic county. 27 year old steven stallworth of pleasantville facing charges in the death of tara rogers alicia. the body of the 30 year old

woman from monroeville was found seven months ago by a hunter off broadway avenue in egg harbor township. she had been strangled. >> the son of a pennsylvania congressman is now free on bail tonight. federal prosecutors have charged chaka fattah, jr., with long list of crimes including fraud and tax evasion. they 11 fattah, jr., was involved in fake bang loan applications and that he fraudulently billed the philadelphia school district. outside of court today, fattah, jr., proclaimed his innocence and promised to clear his name. >> i will say that i'm innocent, and i look forward to my day in court. >> over reach is an example of what's wrong when people have power and all they care about is the opportunity for advancement and other things and don't care about people's lives. >> chaka fattah, jr., is free on 50,000 dollars bail tonight. he's scheduled to be arraigned next thursday. congressman chaka fattah

released a statement it read in part "we have now moved from speculation to specific allegations. this will bring the matter closer to a day in which my son can defend himself in court and i am confident the facts will clear his name. i have full confidence in my son, i love him and stand by him today and every day ". >> high-ranking army officer is dead tonight after an tack in a military camp in afghan statue. major general harold green died when gunman dressed as an afghan soldier opened fire at a camp near kabul. 15 people were wounded in all. smell were american. major general green is the highest ranking american officer killed in combat since 1970. just a few hours ago, the cdc gave the all clear at jfk airport in new york after a possible ebola scare. a sick passenger was having seizures on plane en route from abu dahbi. that determined the person is not affect infected the virus.

the second american aid worker with ebola is under going treatment in atlanta. 59 year old nancy white bowl was wheeled in on stretcher to emory university hospital this afternoon. her hub says she's weak but showing science of improve. >> there are no new reports of any confirmed ebola cases anywhere in this country but hospitals including many here in the philadelphia area are preparing just in case. tonight health reporter stephanie stahl gives us a first hand look at these emergency precautions. >> reporter: the protective gear is ready to go. it starts with gloves here in the emergency department at hahnemann university hospital. this is a demonstration of how hospital workers would protect themselves if they get a patient suspected of having ebola. the uniform includes a mask and face shield to guard against coming into contact with any body fluids. >> any saliva, urine, blood what the concern is. >> dr. eric stander in the emergency department at hahnemann says, hospitals have been getting these daily health

alerts outlining facts about the virus and measures to guard against it being spread like what if someone walks into the er with symptoms. >> ? it requires a close contact. so just rolling by somebody is not dangerous. >> reporter: you're not overly concerned? >> not overly, no. i just want to be correctly concern. >> reporter: he says the most important measure is to find out if someone with flu-like symptoms has been to west africa or in contact with someone who has. >> we've alerted the staff educated the staff to look for the signs and symptoms of ebola and more important toll accident questions. >> reporter: if there's a suspected case the parent would be immediately taken to an isolation room, called iso. this is where other contagious illnesses are treated things like meningitis and tuberculosis. it has a special filter >> most isolation rooms are outfitted with that special ventilation not really that important for e bella. because it is not spread through

the air the way the flu is. i'm stephanie stahl cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> now chaos in times square. two double decker tour buses collided there today injuring 14 people. it happened at 47th street and seventh of a right in front of a popular booth that sells broadway tickets. the accident also brought down the light pole and closed part of seventh avenue for several hours. there were injuries. but none of them was life threatening. >> neighbors are coming together across the region and the country tonight to fight crime. >> it is national night out the evesham township police department hosted free activities for the family. "eyewitness news" at the municipal building where members of the k9 department showed off their skills. >> meantime in camden, young people with hope works in camden used art to get their crime prevention message across. >> new at 11-dollar stunning case of animal cruelty and it's one local prosecutor's say they've never seen before. tonight todd quinones has more on the disturbing details of what happened and the quick thinking action that is saved the cat's life. >> reporter: with broken teeth from being beaten or dragged from car, this little kitten was nearly a goner when it was brought to an animal hospital for help. >> for his sake, maybe putting hip down may have been the best decision. >> police say the 24 year old was found in his car here in the middle of an isolated street at 4:00 sunday morning in west chester. according to investigators the

eight to 10 week old kitten had a rope tight around its neck and was hanging underneath myers car. but that's not all the officer found. >> he had 22 bags of heroin on him inside the car we found hundreds of empty bags of heroin and over 40 needles. >> reporter: when they learned there was heroin in the car the staff decided to give the kitten narcan. it's a drug often given to heroin addicts who overdose. >> the kitten just like a human coming back from the heroin overdose suddenly bounced back up. >> chester county district attorney tom hogan says myers is a heroin user who decided to give his kitten her row went. >> i've never seen an animal abused by giving it heroin. >> the kitten expected that make full recovery. no one answered the door at myers home in west chester. when we tried to reach his family for comment. myers is locked up on $25,000 bail. as for the kitten he may

controlled trump entertainment resorts. it simply uses his name for licensing purposes. on the health watch tonight, a checkup at the the checkout. there's new kiosk in place at the shop rite on fox street in north philadelphia. it is a way for people to screen themselves for mental hell issues like depression, anxiety and substance abuse. people answer a series of questions and the kiosk then does an instant assessment. if necessary, the machine offers recommendations of specialists that that person can see. >> well there is a great video going viral tonight of what some call a birds eye view. >> right. take closer look at this toucan caught on a traffic camera in brazil. it's large orange beak suddenly and appeared on filled the screen. it was taped on christmas. it's just now making the rounds
