straight and talk to any of the. >> reporter: at first shock and outrage in this northeast philadelphia neighborhood after learning that police have now officially ruled 46 year-old connie maclean murray's death a homicide. >> the medical examiner just finished the autopsy, and has ruled this a homicide, manner of death, strangulation. >> reporter: police have also determined that the 46 year-old was not sexually assaulted nor is there any indication of an attempted sexual assault. they say murray was out for her daily jog monday night when someone killed her in penny pack park near holmes and convent avenues. wednesday, police searched for her headphones and cell phone which are still missing. >> we don't have a suspect right now. we don't have a motive right now. hopefully we will get those questions answered very soon. >> reporter: police have obtained surveillance video of the area and asking for public's help. they are also warning folks not to run alone at night. >> unless you are with a group of people, or, you know, carrying pepper spray or something i would not recommend is specially inside

bounds over moving from one education crisis to the next. >> yet, we are a year later in the vortex of legislative and political hell, going back and forth about whether or the not the local citizens here should be able to fund their own schools with their own tax dollars. >> reporter: he's talking about philadelphia's $2 per pack cigarette tax state legislators chose not to vote on the proposal last week taking away tens of millions in funding the school district was funding on. so today governor corbett took his own action. >> i'm authorizing today, 265 million-dollar in advance payments to the philadelphia will school district. >> reporter: to be clear this isn't new money, funding that has been allocated just made available sooner. think getting an advance on your paycheck. funding certainly does provide some flexibility in the short term allowing district to avoid a few million in borrowing cost bus in the long term it does nothing to address the current 81 million-dollar budget deficit. that gap has to be closed, one way or another which likely

now lowery was reportedly charged with attempted murder, after stabbing griffin's son, back in 2008. and philadelphia police want your help to catch a suspect wanted for multiple convenient store robberies, take a look here at this surveillance video, police say suspect hit a 7-eleven and a wawa, back to back early on sunday. the the wawa is on frankford after knew and morell park. he didn't get any monday there i so suspect hit the wawa on state road in torresdale n each case the suspect pulled a knife on the clerk. more surveillance video now, philadelphia police are also looking for a suspect who stole from a wal-mart on sunday. this happened around 9:00 sunday night at the store on the franklin mills mall. suspect went in the safe, taking cash, luckily, no one was injured. the world health organization is out with new numbers on the ebola out break in west africa. they say 932 people have died from that virus, saudi arabia has announced the death of one

some incredible video here out of australia, dozens of people helped a man who had become trapped between this train and the platform. the man was actually board ago this train in the western city of perth when he slipped, and then jammed his leg in the gap. well, look at this commuters and railway staff, joined forces, they rocked that train back and forth, and eventually the man was lifted to safety.

paramedics checked him out on the scene but he was able to board the next train. well, on the cbs-3 healthwatch not getting enough vitamin d could increase risk for developing alzheimer's disease. that is according to the largest study of its kind. >> three on your side health reporter stephanie stahl has more on the brand new research. >> reporter: joe and bester knows the the devastation of alzheimer's disease. her beloved uncle robert has it. >> to see him decline because of his memory has been painful for him and painful for all of us. >> reporter: joe and is in her early 50's recently started to take vitamin d supplements hoping it will help keep her mind sharp. new research says seniors with lower levels of the vitamin d have a 53 percent increased risk of developing dementia and nearly a 70 percent higher risk of developing alzheimer's disease. >> vitamin d receptors may help, boost memory, and it can also have have an effect in reducing inflammation report

pair of storms bear down on hawaii resident are making sure that they are ready, rat warehouse stores like costco customers packed their carts with everything from paper towels, to batteries, and canned goods. workers are restocking shelves as fast as they can but many stores are already out of the essential items. >> we're mainly looking for water and since the bottled water was out. >> we are out of water and we might not get ship. for that until thursday or friday. >> reporter: hurricane iselle and julio are churning towards the island tonight.
