today it is saturday august 9th, good morning, i'm elizabeth hur and time is 6:00 a.m. in center city philadelphia and here is meteorologist carol erickson with the fabulous forecast. >> liz, it is the best, august weather is ideal, when it is like this and it is not like this every single weekend in august as we probably know, by now but this one is and it will be perfect. lets take a look outside and we will fine just clear skies, great, start to the day and it is not just a start you don't to have race out to try to enjoy it right now. if you want it cooler, you will but otherwise take your time and even eye the rest of the day as well because it will be just as beautiful. our temperature right now 66 degrees. i want to brighten things up, a look at leadership academy

move through the workweek and that is coming up with our eyewitness weather seven day forecast, liz. >> thanks, carol. pennsylvania, and new jersey in the meantime announced their first human cases of west nile virus, both of them are sickened and they are from our area. three on your side health reporter stephanie stahl has more. >> reporter: height of the mosquito season and many testing positive for west nile virus. >> the number of infected mosquito pools that we have collected that are infect with west nile virus is actually rather high this year and it is continuing to increase. >> reporter: doctor caroline johnson with the philadelphia health department says risk of getting a virus is expected to increase over next few weeks mainly because there are so many up affect mosquitoes in the area most people infect do not get sick, about 20 percent have symptoms. >> this can be a very serious infection. it tends to affect the elderly, most often and

vulnerable persons who do not have healthy immune system. the symptoms are neurologic, and so people develop headaches, high fever, confusion. >> reporter: health departments continue to spray to control mosquitoes but there are steps to take to protect against them. >> wear repellant when you go outside and mosquitoes are usually active in the early morning and dusk and early evening. those are best times to stay inside. >> health officials are urging residents to get rid of standing water where months keith owe breed. we have more information on west nile virus, cbs philly.com, click on health. i'm stephanie stahl, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and a young mother killed in the deadly carjacking is remember at a vigil in north philadelphia. thirty-four year-old keisha williams died thursday night, she was in critical condition for two weeks after she and four others were hit by a carjacked suv in the tioga section of the city.

three of her children were killed in that crash. one woman from the northeast stopped by the crash site after hearing of keisha williams death. >> she passed away and it just floored me and i took my granddaughter from school and said lets go by and just we have to go. >> this does mean that suspects jonathan rosa and cornelius crawford will now face four counts of second degree murder, and conspiracy. in the meantime a day of summer fun went terribly wrong for three kids at a philadelphia public school. they went for a swim and ended up getting shock. an electrical current somehow got in the water at o'connor public pool at 26th and south street and our todd quinones talk with one parent who says this may not have been the first time that it happened there. >> reporter: a trip to the pool here turn into a trip to the hospital for those three

children, in the meantime maintenance workers are trying to if you go another out what went wrong so they can fix it. an electrical current in the the city pool, shocked three children. they were rushed to children's hospital and they are said to be 13 years old and younger. it all started as a perfect sum are day at the pool and then suddenly turned serious and scary. this woman's daughter saw it all happen. >> she said one of the children was about to get out of the pool and touch the ladder and was immediately shocked. and then his sister came over to help him and then his sister was shock. >> reporter: gale dougherty said her children were shock in the same lad inner june at the o'connor pool at 26th and south street. >> we were climbing up the ladder and it shock us. >> it was just a little shock. if you were a foot away you could still feel it. >> that came as a surprise to the parks and recreation department. >> this is first time we heard

about shocks to the young people or adults that use that pool. >> reporter: dougherty said she didn't report the incident in june. >> i didn't because i really thought they were crazy because they weren't holding on to the ladder but swimming in the water. >> reporter: late friday afternoon peco workers were back at the pool testing the ladder with voltage meters. the kids were shocked at the the ladder around 1:15 friday. >> draining it, refilling this pool, and it will not be reopened until we find out what the cause of this incident toys day. >> reporter: parks and recreation department indicates that workers were out here earlier in the day working on the motor and pump. there were a total of 12 children in the pool at the time. a as for those three kids shocked and taken to chop, they were last listed in stable condition but i'm told that they should be just fine. reporting from 26th and south street, todd quinones, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and happening right now, some of the world's best, anglers are back out on the delaware river as part of the

"eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is live in tacony where the axis just getting started, good morning, steve. >> good morning, this event is just about to get underway, we are minutes away from the boat launch. look around here, these boats there are 50 of them about to compete today, 50 anglers wanting to to take that top $100,000 prize and they went from zero to 60 in an instant. these boats were not here probably 15 or 20 minutes ago an now they are all on the water. in fact my camera guy here takes like a half an hour sometimes to get one boat if you are an amateur but these are very top professionals in the world, thinks bass master's let professional series, the guy you are looking at over here is michael iconnellie, and he is the leader, warming up getting ready to go in the water.

he is from philadelphia. the first time this event has ever been in philadelphia. but he is one of the top guys in the tournament prize winning and he will be back on the the river hoping to get a home turf victory. but again, 50 boats, they have cut it from 100 to 50 and then they go to 12 tomorrow. this is like the masters of fishing. these anglers are very, very serious. through can see the sunrise coming up for a beautiful morning. they will be fishing all morning. this meet at penns landing, they will catch five fish in total. they will weigh those fish to see hoist the winner. of course, lot of people are pulling for the home turf guy behind me. we will stay with us. we will find out how they do after they launch in just a few minutes. it is exciting here at the delaware river. we will send it back to you. >> it looks beautiful and exciting indeed, thank you for that update, steve. well, still ahead here on "eyewitness news" the latest on u.s. air strikes in iraq

temperatures in the 80's today and tomorrow and in fact they will be in the 80's the entire week. it does not look like we will see a day with temperatures getting to 90 or even 90 plus. we will be kind of close tomorrow in the upper 80's but still it is just, a lot more comfortable then it can be normally this time of the year with the dew points remaining fairly low. our high pressure eventually has to give way because is there always another weather player out there, and this one is going to be a front that we will see coming through probably tuesday night ape with that we will find humidity picking up a little bit the but also a chance of a shower or thunderstorm. otherwise by wednesday we will see a continuation of that and then we will clear that out as well. future weather, i don't to have stop this at all let the clock running out, we are into sunday we are in the finding anything different at all but just lots of sunshine, mostly clear skies at night, by tuesday, early in the morning we will see a few more clouds. hey did you see that moon, were you up last night or did you see it just bursting

around until they find a good spot. they cut that motor and put on a electronic motor and cast a line and try to bring in the big fish. boat we're on right now is probably 60 to $07,000. motor alone maybe 18 to 20,000. so it is quite an expensive sport to get into but once they get in and these professional guys are all sponsored they will get out on this river and get to work. this is for a big, big prize, a hundred you this dollars they are ankling for, five fish that they can catch. they will fish all morning, bring them back from penns landing at 3:15 they will dot weigh in. they will call 50 to 12 and that will be the final competition tomorrow. but just look around, how beautiful is this on the delaware river. the first time in philadelphia that this event is going down. we spoke to a guy name michael iconilli, he is a leader and one of the top guys in the

welcome back, neighbors in cincinnati now know why they weren't receiving mail. it turns out their pose al carrier was delivering it into a dumpster. the worker was caught, on camera as you can see tossing letters, bills, even paychecks into the the trash. the residents say the postal worker return to pick up the mail after they called to complain. >> i'm saddened by it because you rely on the postal system

thursday, 81 degrees and friday 83. this is a pretty nice week coming up for august, liz? >> good to know, carol. a nine year-old, florida boy fights off an alligator and lives to share his story. in fact, he is doing so well he spoke to reporters from his hospital bed. as reporter michelle meredith tells us james barney was the star of his own news conference. >> reporter: nine year-old james barney was still recovering from surgery, was wheeled into the news conference on a hospital bed. but did not miss a beat. >> it was a pretty big tooth, they said the alligator was about 9-foot. >> reporter: james survived an alligator attack, that happened and 2:30 thursday at the popular lake front park in saint cloud. james told reporters he jumped in the lake to cool off, felt a tug, thought one of his friend was messing with him and realized he was fighting a alligator and fight to go save its young life.

>> i felt its jaw, i felt its teeth. i didn't know what to do so i immediately reacted and hit him a couple times. then it was letting go a little, and then finally i had enough strength left to pry its jaw opened a little will bit. >> reporter: his surgeon says they have given james antibiotics, pressure wash the wound and while in the er they found an alligator tooth embedded in his back. >> they said what is this? they pulled out a tooth and they showed to it me. i said well, i wanted to put it on a necklace. >> he was calm, he told us what happened. he thanked everyone for everything that they were doing. he is an incredible kid. >> reporter: today only place to cool off at lake front park in saint cloud is kiddy water park. swimming area is off limits while gate are trappers try to snag the gator believed to be nine to 10 feet long.
