breaking news, on the investigation in the jogger murder near a popular northeast philadelphia park, police have a person of interest in custody and we are live with the latest details. also this morning, more breaking news, a race car driver is dead after a crash on a race track involving nascar champion tony stewart. and a busy night for philadelphia police investigating a case where four people were shot, three of the victims were innocent bystanders in cars riding by when gunfire broke out. did today is sunday august 10th good morning, everyone i'm elizabeth hur. time is 6:00 o'clock here in center city philadelphia lets check in with meteorologist carol eric on in the eyewitness weather center. >> good morning, liz.

what a day yesterday was. >> it was a beauty. >> absolutely perfect. we will do it just about the the same way again today except we will add within degree. yesterday, maybe 2 degrees. yesterday was 86. we will get to 87, or 88. i hepp you will get outside and enjoy it. we have a nice start tort day. center city philadelphia, 65 degrees. it is just gorgeous. how about a sunrise, beautiful, 65-degree temperature. starting the morning here we've got 62. that is temperature in reading. we have a beautiful start in that location. where ever or whatever your plans are if they take you outside we will be in great shape. storm scan three nothing in our area we expect to it look like this throughout the rest of the day. maybe a couple cumulus clouds but that is the extent of it. one or two in the the 50's just like yesterday morning, 59 in allentown, 52 in the poconos. otherwise we have 68 degrees in philadelphia. that is exactly where we were

yesterday morning at the this time. sixty in trenton. sixty-six in wilmington. lower 60's at the shore areas. dew points in the 50's. it doesn't get any better than this. our temperatures today getting to 88 degrees, just an absolutely perfect afternoon and as we look out into time there is hardly any reason to stop anything on our future weather because we have got one or two couple rust clouds that is the the extent of it. beautiful weather. can we keep this going. there is a day maybe two days when we are looking at a chance of a shower and i'll show you those in the eyewitness weather seven day forecast, liz. we will begin this morning with breaking news, philadelphia police are questioning a person of interest, in the murder of a northeast philadelphia. a mother in northeast philadelphia connie maclean murder was found dead tuesday morning near penny pack park. she had gone for a jog the the night before and investigators return to the scene of the crime this weekend, searching for cruz and "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry is live

at police headquarters with the very latest on this investigation, syma? >> reporter: that is right, liz. police do have a person of interest in custody, for questioning, after a missing jogger was found dead earlier this week in the northeast. this is as they continue to search for evidence. police have spent the past several days in penny pack park searching for clues to find a person responsible for connie maclean murray's death. they combed through the area overnight in hopes of finding her cell phone. the wife and mother of two went for a jog monday night. when she did not return home her family called police. by tuesday morning her body was discover at holmes and convent avenues near a cemetery. autopsy result show maclean murray tried to fight off her attacker but she was strangled. neighbors say they're on edge. >> it is scary, i mean we're used to be able to leave the door opened and now you think twice. >> very scary plus when we

caulk dunn there the with the kids and it is just so close to home. it is unbelievable. >> reporter: again, police company have a person of interest in custody right now. so far no charges have been filed but connie in maclean murray's viewing is tonight, and her funeral is tomorrow morning. we're live at police headquarters, syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thank you, syma. we have more breaking news, nascar driver tony stewart has struck and killed a fellow driver, authorities in new york call it a tragic accident. eyewitnesses shared this picture of the scene in the motor sport park last night. victim is a fellow sprint car driver kevin ward junior. they collided in a previous lap and some onlookers felt stewart deliberately hit ward. sheriff's office says stewart is cooperating with their investigation. new this morning, an argument ends were four people being shot in the feltonville

neighborhood. one of the victims was shot in the head and is in extremely critical condition. investigators say two men got in the argument on the 4700 block of campus street. one of them got on the phone and called for a friend, not too long after a car pulled up with several men inside and bullet started to fly. police say the intended target was shot in the leg and was started to run toward intersection of whittaker and wyoming avenue putting innocent bystanders in harms way. >> at the same time there are two cars driving southbound on whittaker and unbee nows todd me bullets are flying down the alley way and these two cars were hit. >> reporter: a driver of the one of the cars was shot in the head and he is in extremely critical condition. in the other car to are two back seat pass eveningers were shot in the neck and in stable condition. victim shot in the leg is in stable condition. police do have two persons of interests in this case. now, dozens gathered to remember the victims of a

deadly carjacking crash in north philadelphia. three children were killed and their mother died from her injuries, on thursday night. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers has this story. >> reporter: there has been a lot of good byes in this neighborhood lately, too many, saturday it was for keisha williams. >> love you keisha. >> reporter: keisha, the 34 year-old mother of five, struck in the fatal hit and run just over two weeks ago. she died thursday night. just three days earlier while she laid in the hospital her family and friend laid three of her friend to rest. kier a was 15, joseph ten, terence seven. >> i just want to ask everyone to continuously pray because we need it. >> reporter: the saturday's vigil remembered all four who died selling fruit on their corner for search. the suspect in the car that hit him face multiple murder charges. >> i cannot even find word to describe what our family is feeling at this moment. >> reporter: keisha left two other children behind just 12

and 13 themselves. >> that was their only mom, that is only person that they knew, how can you explain it. you only get one mom. >> reporter: as sunset can were also lit as they had been each night since july 25th, keisha's passing a final chapter of the terrible story. >> the hugs, and the crying and we will get through this. it is one day at a time. >> reporter: there has been a half dozen or owe vigils at the scene of the crash but this will likely be the time one as this community begins to try to move on. we're in north philadelphia, matt rivers, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the u.s. military says american jet fighters and drones have conduct four more air strikes on iraqi militant taking out armored carriers, and a truck that were firing on civilians. early indications suggest that the strikes were successful, net meantime, president obama addressed the conflict before leaving for vacation and cbs news correspondent wendy gilette has details. >> the u.s. military announced

unless rocket fire from gaza stopped. philadelphia police this morning need your help finding a mythsing, mentally challenge teen. john homer was last seen inside his home on the 2400 block of west fifth street. police say that the 14 year-old frequents the area around the 2300 block of sergeant street and the 2500 block of dover street. he is 5 feet four, 180-pound, wearing a red short sleeve t-shirt, pants and light blue or gray nike sneakers. if you see him, please call the police. new castle county police arrested 37 year-old william martin for a string of burglaries in bear, delaware. martin is charged with burglary at six homes in the communities of lafayette landing town homes. police developed martin as a suspect when video surveillance linked him to the unauthorized use of a credit card at a local convenient store, stolen from one of the

victims. and, happening today, the eagles return to their former home, franklin field. the birds are holding an opened practice today beginning at 12:15. franklin field on the campus of the university of pennsylvania, was eagles home from 1958 to 1970. many of the teams alumni will be returning today, ticket for the event, well, sold out but "eyewitness news" will be there. also happening today tanen dragons play for a chance to head to the little league world series that will be taking on delaware's newark nationals. the game time is 6:00 o'clock. there will be several viewing parties in philadelphia, good luck to the team. of course, we will let you know how they do. a python problem in one neighborhood coming up next on "eyewitness news", the huge snake that had residents on edge. also ahead, bugging out in center city, the exhibit where

cbs news correspondent shaban had these details. >> we had ice over here. >> reporter: hundreds lined up in hard hit areas to get free water and ice after tropical storm iselle ripped through. she lost electricity two days ago but supplies of water and ice ran out before he got to the front of the line. >> it has been over two hours, and they said they don't have enough. >> reporter: iselle made a mark on the big island east coast, win gusts 85 miles an hour uprooted trees and brought down power lines leaving a large rural part of the island in the dark. utility crews are repairing down power lines while taking advantage of the break in the rain. the areas expecting more rough weather when hurricane julio is expect to pass just north of hawaii. hawaii electrolytes say outages could last until next week. for now business owners in hilo are getting back to work. kyle summer manages the popular fish market.

moon and we are getting a lot of light out of this too. we have a gorgeous sunrise if you can take a look at it this morning it is cool, crisp, it is beautiful, out there just as it was yesterday and we will be keeping this going all day long the sun will be rising higher in the sky. i mentioned, this super moon and couple little facts about that. fullest of this i know we saw it yesterday and i necessity we will see it tomorrow, the moon is at its closest point to earth and very closees it will be is very easy to see the moon at 1:44 in the afternoon but look for it anyway out there. 221,000 plus miles away from the earth, 4 percent closer and 30 percent brighter. one of the things that this super moon is doggies we should be seeing meteor showers, persaid meteor showers but that makes it difficult to see that but for next couple of days if you look to the north east in the sky be able to see that. super moon is gorgeous enough in itself and just kind of a

reminder if you were not out there alone. we've got margate right now that won't ab loan on the beach either because so many people will be out there. beautiful beach day once again and see a sea breeze later this afternoon. storm scan three just as we showed it to you yesterday, nothing to talk about on here, love that, we could use a little bit of rain. now we're over on the rainfall totals that we normally get. we are 8-inch's above the normal rainfall totals. we are 5 inches below where we were last year where it rained just about every other day during the summertime. we will get some rain showers. they will be probably holding off until later on tuesday and then maybe gannon wednesday and then we will get in another spell of dry weather. right new this is ideal, 68 degrees through philadelphia, 60 in trenton. sixty-six in wilmington. in the 50's in the poconos. high pressure, starting to slide away a little bit but wind remain light and so that will keep another day with low humidity and temperatures that are um iser-like.

then this low pressure system and a couple fronts come in here on that tuesday time period. but we have another nice day tomorrow. if you want rain we've got the that. if you want sun, we've got that. this forecast vice accommodating. future weather today no reason again to stop this until we get to monday at 10:00 p.m. when a few clouds are in here. the this is when we will start to see that front coming in. the tuesday morning to we pick up a couple rain showers? do we see a few more and heavier ones by tuesday night? it is possible. there are thunderstorms associated with this and some computer models you can see anywhere from a half inch to a inch and a half have of rain, depending where you are. this is early on wednesday morning. and then, this is as far as that computer model go but that system gets out and we are left with great weather for thursday. great for sunday too. sunshine, warm, fine, keep your pets in the shade all day too.

eighty-eight can get warm when humidity is low. eighty at the the shore. eighty-two in the poconos. the wind are light all day long. anything that you do today you'll love but just know a sea breeze and moderate risk of rip current going down to the beach. our winds today out of the north east at five, to the south east tonight 65 degrees and next couple of days, we are in the 80's. we have just, tuesday and wednesday when we are seeing wet weather, otherwise look at how comfortable it gets by the the end of the week, liz in the 70's. >> love it. thanks, carol. a python that was causing trouble in one florida neighborhood is finally caught. take a look at this, port saint lucy police are holding a 12-foot, 120 python, that they believe was killing cats in the neighborhood. police captured the snake from waist high brush. authorities believe the python was once a pet. this particular snake we are told is banned in the state of florida.

and, from snakes to bugs, insects were the center of attention at bug fest at the academy of natural sciencees in center city. visitors were able to take a close look at unique live insects and see some bug artwork and jewelry and for those who are brave, even some treats, made with insect ingredients. there is still time to check it out, the bug fest continues today. also, in our area, it is final day of the bass mass try leap competition. of the best fisherman are out on the delaware river today putting their skills to the test. they are trying to real in the big ones, daily weigh ins of the fish are at penns landing and philadelphia native and eight team champion mike ikeneli is odds on favorite to win. >> there is home river advantage and home river jinks. 90 percent the of the time if it is your home fishery you don't do well. i'm trying to overcome the

eyewitness weather seven day forecast, coming up, liz. is there breaking news, homicide detectives get a break in the case of the jogger found dead in penny pack park. investigators are questioning a person of interest, this morning, 46 year-old connie maclean murray was murdered when she went for a judging last monday night. take a look at this eyewitness cam photo, the crash happened at the professional properties services office on the 600 block of park boulevard at about 10:00 o'clock saturday morning. the building was damaged and police say 59 year-old sylvia byrd-light inner was behind the wheel and fortunately there were no injuries. is search is underway for a gunman who shot a 24 year-old man in the face four times in north philadelphia. the shooting happened on the 2900 block of north park avenue at 9:00 o'clock saturday morning, victim was rush to the hospital and right now is in critical condition. police are working to determine a motive for this shooting. former willingboro teacher patrick maguire is charged with attempting to lure a former student into a sexual relationship. prosecutors say that maguire talk to a now 15 year-old girl when she was a student in eighth grade at memorial middle school. detectives posed as a girl and

set up a meeting with maguire on thursday. he was arrested and being held on hundred thousand dollars bail. former eagles player irving fryar must deciding whether to plead guilty or go to trial in the mortgage fraud case. fryar faces a five-year sentence under a plea deal in burlington county. his mother arlene mcgee had been offered a three-year sentence and this have until august 21st to accept the the plea deal. fryar is charged with conspiring to steel one million-dollar through a north game scam run by william barksdale who has been sentenced to 20 months in federal prison. a judge denied a general motors motion to dismiss a wrongful death case against the auto maker. a trial date is set for april 2016. the family of a 29 year-old nurse who died in 2010 in a crash near atlanta sued gm alleging that a faulty

ignition switch unexpectly shut off the engine and caused her to lose control. they settled last year with gm for five million-dollar but case exposed how auto maker let millions of cars stay on the road even after discovering the flaw. it has been link tooth least 13 deaths. and within of the toughest curfew laws of the country is now in effect in baltimore. after 20 years, kids are no longer allowed to rome the streets in the midnight. new law requires that teens under 14 be home by 9:00 p.m. and 14 to 16 years old must be in by 10:00 p.m. on school nights and 11:00 p.m. on weekend. baltimore's mayor says getting kids off of the streets takes them out of harms way but parents say that the curfew is a bad idea. >> they could be harmed, they could do harm to someone else and we're supposed to turn a blind eye to it, in. >> we are criminal icing the parents instead of helping out in a community sense providing another source for the family.

and now that it is august, most kids, have spent time in the pool but parents should not get too confident in letting them swim. three on your side consumer reporter jim donovan has water safety reminders. >> reporter: summer is entering the final stretch but in our area there is still more swim time ahead. according to the consumer products safety commission drowning is second leading cause of death for children between five and 14 years of age. by this point in the season, many children have had swim

lessons or camps but reminders about pool safety should be ongoing. >> we teach children that if they have long hair you need to tie your hair back. do not swim near a drain. if a cover is coming loose in a pool, that that pool needs to be shut down, until it is repaired, because you can become stuck. >> reporter: karen cone lost her six year-old son zachary to drain entrapment and she has since channeled her energy into zach foundation which will hold 25 camps across the country this summer teaching young swimmers age five through nine their abc d's of pool safety. a, an adult should always be nearby. b, don't climb over barriers like fences or gates if a pool is closed. c, classes like swim lessons and cpr and d, drain safety. now parents should avoid distractions which children are in the the water which is sometimes easier said than done, don't read a book, don't rely on life guard.
