i hate sheep. introducing the xfinity my account app. ♪ >> from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> never thought something like this would happen. >> a neighborhood already shaken by the murder of a wife and mother tonight in disbelief after learning her herbed is now charged with the crime. >> good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. police say christopher murray confessed to killing his wife after failing a lie detector test. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live with the details of today's major development in this investigation. matt? >> reporter: natasha, police tell us that christopher murray had been a person of interest in the case since the investigation began. but it took him until yesterday to finally confess.

it took them a few days to find their man but police now say the person who killed 46 year old connie mcclain murray was one of the people who into her best. christopher murray her husband is charged with her murder. >> after failing the lie detector test, he was then questioned by detectives where he ultimately confessed to strangling his wife in the park. >> reporter: police say the couple were arguing around 9:15 monday night. when they made their way towards these benches in pennypack park. >> we believe they went up there to have a conversation and things went bad once they got up there. >> reporter: her body was discovered early tuesday morning. murray had called police around midnight tuesday to report his wife missing. but police said he was a suspect right from the get go. despite saying his wife was missing, he never called any family or friends to see where she might be. >> it seemed almost a show but the concerned husband show. there was lot of aspects of his story that just didn't add up.

her death had community on edge for days her impact on their lives was seen as hundreds attended her viewing sunday night. >> she was one of the nicest ladies i've ever met in my life hands down. >> there couldn't have been a worse person for this to happen to. >> reporter: what could be the worse part about all of this the couple leaves behind two teenaged children. a family now torn apart. >> i just can't believe that these children now have to go not just without think mother because, you know, she was so close to them, but to know that their dad did this to the moth mother. >> reporter: and the funeral for connie mcclain murray has been scheduled for tomorrow morning. we're live out police headquarters matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> matt, thank you very much. our coverage of this story continues on our website cbsphilly.com. we've up loaded the police press conference in its and tire are the detailing what led them to arrest the husband in this case.

>> tragedy in the world of nascar after an incident in upstate new york ends with a young driver dead. and now one of the sports most accomplished and highest paid drivers is at the center of a police investigation. cbs news correspondent jericka duncan has dee also the video leading up to this deadly crash. >> reporter: nascar fans stood alongside the competitors as national anthem played at today's sprint cup series at watkins glenn in upstate new york. three hugh time champion stoney stewart was supposed to compete but withdrew hours after being involved in a terrible tragedy. >> this is very tough. very emotional time for everybody with that being said we feel that as group, um, tony will not drive today. >> reporter: 43 year old stewart was taking part in a sprint car race motor sports park saturday night when he caused a fellow driver 20 year old kevin ward to spin out. ward got out of his crashed car and on to the dirt track to confront stewart. he was struck by stewart's car and killed. authorities are now examining

fan video of the crash and have not ruled out criminal charges. >> as we speak at this time, there is no evidence in hand or no facts that would support a criminal charge or support criminal intent. >> reporter: spectators had saw the accident say they're not surprised. >> jump oh and that track -- you suspect the worse. >> authorities had questioned stewart described him as visibly shaken. they say he is cooperating with the investigation. >> jericka done tan for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> two people were taken to temple university hospital following this crash on west hunting park avenue. their conditions nor the being released. this was the scene just after 4:00 this afternoon near fox street. as you can see, the damage is extensive. and the cause is still under

investigation. have you look outside tonight? looked up at the sky. there's a great view of tonigh tonight's super moon. this is the moon as seen from the art museum. the moon is 14% closer and 30% brighter than any other full moons in 2014. a super moon occurs at the point in the moon's orbit when it's closest to the earth and meteorologist justin drabick is getting a great view of moon from the cbs-3 sky deck. justin, i was out there a short time ago. it was spectacular. >> pretty cool. a lot of moonlight going outside across the delaware valley like you said great viewing condition. it may ab passing cloud from time to time but overall overnight we should keep skies mostly clear. it's also very comfortable. warm but not humid. so you can keep those windows moon or super moon actually isl going to iact t tides a little bit. normally higher than normal tides because of the full moon and also with an shore flow developing we have a coastal flood in effect until mid night.

the jersey store and the delaware bay the tidal areas there could be minor tidal flooding because of those hire than normal tides. those winds will push of water up the delaware bay and also on to the atlantic beaches that's why that flood advisory is in effect. 76 degrees for the inland spots at the airport 71 in wilmington upper 60s in south jersey. so the suburbs cooling down a little bit. 69 in mt. holly, new jersey, 68 quakertown and doylestown. nice and quiet on storm scan3. maybe a fair weather cloud passing by. morning temperatures monday we'll wake up in the 60s. could be some 50s in the cooler suburbs so a dry start to the day. now coming up in the full forecast we'll talk about returning also some temperatures below average for the end of week. those details coming up in just a few more minutes. natasha? >> justin, see you and side in just a bit. police are investigating after a shooting in south philadelphia leaves two people dead. this happened just before 10:00 o'clock this morning on

the 2400 block of south hut chin chon street. a victims were both shot in the head and they pronounced dead at the scene. a weapon was recovered and police are looking for two men scene running from that area. >> we've also now learn the woman pulled from the water in atlantic city last week has died. 59 year old rita, got caught in a rip current near south carolina avenue on monday night. she was taken off live sport yesterday. loved ones set a good fund me page hoping to raise the money necessary to bring her home to new hampshire and give her proper burial. >> and now the philadelphia eagles return to the historic franklin field to train before tens of thousands of fans. first up, a special ceremony honoring eagles alumni. among the many attendees, chuck bednarek and tony mcdonald two pro football hall of famers who played on this very field in 1960.

>> small passenger plane crashed shortly after take off in tehran, iran. 39 people on board were killed. and nine otherings were injured. state tv said the plane's tale struck the cable cables of an electricity tower before it hit the ground and then burst into flames. iran's president has opened similar planes to be grounded he's ordered that until the investigation has been complet completed. >> and now to the crisis in ir iraq. the prime minister refused to resign today. instead of accusing the

country's new president of violating their constitution. the parliament intends to meet tomorrow to discuss the elections. the news comes as the u.s. military attac attacks more suni militant targets and cbs news correspondent wendy gillette tells us there's word that curdish fighters in northern iraq reclaimed two villages. >> reporter: widespread misery among tens of thousands of iraqis trapped on mountain by islamic militants. >> some are dying of dehydration and starvation after fleeing from the militants who took over their town. their kurds members of a religious minority group in ir iraq. us british and iraqi planes are dropping food and water but it's not enough to solve what the united nations is calling a humanitarian crisis. the us launched a fourth round of air strike sunday morning heighting isis armed vehicles and mortars. the air strikes are helping curdish forces who retook two

northern towns from the isis militants sunday according to the curdish military. but president obama and some democrats say the us military campaign is not a solution. >> we have to begin at the fundamental core which is leadership in baghdad, iraqi leadership which will work together in a unified way to defend and pro tuck their country and defeat isis. >> reporter: some say president obama needs to do mo more. >> every day that goes by isis becomes a direct threat to the united states of america. they are more powerful now than al-qaida was on 9/11. >> reporter: as violence gross near the curdish capitol city the us pulled some staff from its consolate there. wendy gillette for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> another cease fire set to go in effect. truces have repeatedly been broken between israel and hamas. hamas wants the israeli egyptian

blockade on gaza to end israel is demanding hamas dismantle their weapons arsenal. 19 hadn't dread people have been killed and 10,000 others injur injured. >> and now to the very latest on the ebola outbreak. missionaries returning to the united states after working with infected patients will now be put in quarantined and monitored very closely much missionaries are with the same north carolina based aid group as nancy writebol. she's colonelly at em more morey university hospital after contracting ebola in liberia. the quarantine will last at least three weeks. right now none of the workers have shown any signs or symptoms of the virus. >> and protests meantime continue over the death of an unarmed missouri teen who was shot and killed by a police officer. >> no justice, no piece! >> family members identified the 18 year old had was killed as michael brown. police say the officer encountered two people one of

whom was brown on the street in a suburb of st. louis. one of the men allegedly pushed the other back into his squad car and a struggle began and that's when police say the officer started firing. police are now asking the community to stay calm and allow this investigation to proceed. the officer has been placed on leave for now. >> 10 year old little girl is recovering from an apparent shark attack in florida. the girl was wading in shallow water in cocoa beach when she was bitten. bystanders heard her screening and helped her to shore. >> they all streaked over there pretty quick to help out with everybody and got their iced down and got her out of there real quick and soth forth. they did a great job. those guys really did a great job. >> the girl reportedly had bite marks on her right foot and her ankle. she was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. lifeguards briefly did close the beach immediately after this incident happened. and a day at the amusement park some roller coaster riders

though it certainly a day they'll never forget. they were riding the jokers jinx at six flags america in upper marlboro, maryland, when it suddenly just stopped. 45 feet off the ground. firefighters used a tower bucket to rescue the 24 riders. that was a process that took several hours. no one was injured. luckily but what caused that ride to stop abruptly is now under investigation. >> and it looks like hawaii is dodging a hurricane. this is the damage left behind by tropical storm iselle. it hit the bug island on friday. knocking out power and toppling trees in the process and now it appears hurricane julio is going to steer clear of the islands altogether. it's moving away right now and has been downgraded to a category one hurricane. >> that certainly good news for hawaii. of course. >> we have got good news. that super moon, it's unbelievable. what's it called when the moon is closest to the earth. >> i'm getting a -- i'm getting justin -- you told me, oh.
