find the ben franklin bridge, the skies are starting to brighten up, but the sun won't be com until about 6:14 this morning then we go tod look at that beautiful sunrise in atlantic city the day will be perfect headed down to though there are some rain showers, to the south, and also notice it looks like there could be some clouds starting the day down there, just as a result of little disturbance, even farther south that rehoboth beach. people already out. seen them biking and walking around on the boards walk, you can see we do have few of those showers, and they're well to the south. most everybody in the region is staying dry. but in sussex county, delaware, also down through saulsbury, maryland, few showers are going on this morning. 62 degrees, out at the airport in philadelphia. we have 53 in trenton 59 degrees in wilmington, still in the four's, though, up in the poconos. our temperatures this afternoon, getting to 84, 85 degrees just beautiful day, low humidity, just going to be spectacular. the humidity is down already. and i think you're going to be

down with that, as we say. so we take a look at future weather and maybe tomorrow, are there couple of showers to start the day? we'll finish out that time line. talk about the eyewitness weather seven day forecast coming up. liz? >> reporter: thank up, carol. new this morning police are investigating an early morning murder in southwest philadelphia. it happened shortly after midnight at 55th and lansdowne. the detectives are busy working on the case at this hour. but we do know that the victim was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead. so far no description on that suspect. and also, a septa police officer was rushed to jefferson following this crash in old city, "eyewitness news" at fifth and market streets just after 3:00. police say the police cruiser and a white suv collided, sending both vehicles on to the sidewalk. the crash is under investigation right now. and the septa police officer is at jefferson in stable condition. well family and friends

will gather today to remember the young children killed in a house fire last month. the victims will be laid to rest later this morning. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson; live in southwest philadelphia, and steve, we are hearing that we may never know the cause of this deadly fire. >> the fire commissioner has come out with a report, declaring that fire undetermined, as far as the cause goes. not something that people wanted to hear, especially, following all of the strives and unrest that followed that fire. but, again the family says, the focus is on the young kids that were killed in the fire about six weeks ago now i want to take you to the scene last night there was service for the young children, who were killed in that fire, four year old twins mariah and marry ella boa the brothers, four year old patrick and seven week old taj being laid to rest, being remembered this morning at devine mercy church here in southwest philly. last night that service with

the liberian-american community, the liberian-american children being honored and remembered, that community coming together once again on the same day word from the fire commissioner, the fire marshall conducting the investigation, the cause again, undetermined. we heard from the fire marshall basically the damage to the source of whatever that fire was in that front porch of those units on gesner street was just too far burned. the damage, too extensive. you remember, it was six weeks ago the fire raging out every control. we did learn that 13 homes in all, five cars affected, and damage from the that fire, and then that sparked a series of protests, because of the fire department's response, with all of that, and now this new report that basically says the fire's undetermined. weep asked the family what they thought and they said, look, the focus is on the kids. >> there was some blessing upon us. >> through the grace of god,

and, you know, the community that so many people helping us throughout as we go through the grieving process. >> reporter: it is important to say that an undetermined cause is while it is a permanent i guess marker, identifier, if there is new information brought up about the fire, they will look at it again, and they will open that investigation back up. for now though, that is determined to be the cause as there is just no other way they can go with it. the children will be laid to rest this morning. the funeral starts in just a matter of hours. it is the latest from southwest philadelphia, i'm steve patterson cbs-3 "eyewitness thank you, steve. also being remembered is the life after promising young woman, friends of laura held memorial walk from the art institute where she graduated from last year to the art museum. ajauro found dead in a definitely bag last month in north philadelphia. the bag was dumped outside a vacant home in kensington, and

students and staff they tell us they still cannot believe she is gone. >> there are tragedies that happen at schools all the time. and this is something that wasn't oh, this is somewhere else. this is here. this was one of our students. >> well, 22 year old jeremiah jackson is charged with ajauro's murder, police believe jackson targeted ajauro because they think jackson thought she had money. the revel hotel and casino will close for good labor day weekend. officials made that announcement late friday. the hotel will close first on monday september 1st at 11:00 in the morning. the casino will then close the next day at 5:00 a.m. all events scheduled past september 2nd will be canceled and philadelphia schools will open on time. but the ends of summer vacation comes with a price. as "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo tells us, the

district outlining cuts to be made in several areas including sanitation, and security. the governor and the house majority leader, that they will do everything they can to ensure that cigarette tax, authorized in legislation, is passed. >> the school district is relying on that philadelphia specific cigarette tax to help close its $81 million budget gap. in the meantime, in order to get the school doors open, superintendent william hite says more painful cuts must be made. >> we are hopeful that these are temporary reductions. >> for now the school district cutting transportation for high school students who live within 2 miles of their building leaving 7500 kids without a ride to school. it also won't fill police vacancies, and the district is cutting programs and teacher development. >> i'm looking forward to even tougher year. >> and on friday, hite and the src, again, tapped teachers for help. >> we've also made the case to our labor unions, that they need to agree to charges particularly, in benefit structure. >> but the philadelphia federation of teachers, says,

it offered those adjustments last year, and was denied. >> our proposal save the district tens of millions of dollars in savings. we have been to the table. and we're willing to go to the table today. >> students again called for full funding but if the funds come through best case is schools resume the status quo. >> no new services, no new programs no additional support staff or others coming into schools. >> no announcement about layoffs, but superintendent hite warns if no new fund something found by mid october, we could find ourselves right back in the same spot, facing even more cuts and possibly laying off more than a thousand employees. reporting outside the school district headquarters, jan carabeo, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and in ferguson, missouri, police revealed michael brown was involved in a robbery minutes before he was killed by a police officer. now, police say surveillance video shows brown stealing cigars from a convenience store on saturday, just before he was confronted by a

ferguson police officer and shot dead. now, that officer was identified for the first time yesterday, as 28 year old darren wilson. and the chief says wilson did not know brown was a suspect when he stopped him. >> why did he stop michael brown? >> because they were walking down the middle of the street blocking traffic. that will was it. >> what happened in the 18 years before that does not matter. >> now brown's family does not deny he was seen in that tape. but they believe its release is attempt to divert attention from the shooting. >> and also, a grand jury indicts texas governor rick perry, charging him with abuse of power. now, tried to force resignation of a district attorney arrested for dui. when she refused he vetoed maps of dollars in funding for her office. now, prosecutor says that was a crime. officials from perry's offers say they plan to aggressively

side. but it didn't take long in this game before things went taney's way. jared sprague hit towering three run shot in the top of the firs inning, sending favorite little leaguers on path to victory. >> i was very excited. >> reporter: once she got that run support mo'ne davis didn't need much more. the incredible 12 year old righthander tossed yet another gem. the team from tennessee didn't score. and managed only a handful of hits. >> as it went by, i got to know the umpire's strike zone. so that helped me out a lot. and i felt good. >> helped out by phenominal fielding defense from a team that prides itself on playing error free ball. >> with our defense and mo pitching like that, as long as we can sequence the pitching, to keep it in the yard, we're in good shape. >> thousands on hand to watch the game. little league officials don't keep official totals, but they're seeing little doubt that the largest crowd so far. >> i haven't seen boying pitch

and it looks like the sun is coming up behind you there. >> yes, i think we've got a great looking start to the day, and i think that we could probably see a little league softball, hardball, whatever they throw right down that beach without hitting anybody. nobody's on the beach at this point. but i think the beaches will be pack. because the ocean is 73 degrees, and it looks like an ideal beach day today. so, looking at atlantic city right now the sun is slow to wake up. but we're glad you beat the sun to wake up this morning. and you will probably be doing that increasingly, as the sun will sleep in more and more and more every single day. we have rehoboth beach, and notice it doesn't look terrific down there there have been some showers very close to row rowboat beach. i think maybe this boardwalk looks little darker than it normally does. you slight pick up brief shower, there as well, and let me show you what we have at this point. and that is we are looking at a few showers and they're

through the sussex county area of delaware, we've seen them go through saulsbury pretty slow moving. right now they're right along some of the delaware beaches. otherwise, the rest of us, farther north, in fine shape. at this point just waiting for the sun to finally get its act together, wake up, tan will, tan will stretch its tiny yellow arms, and we will be embraced by that sunshine all day long, the temperatures continue to cool, 62 degrees right now in philadelphia, we started the morning with temperatures closer to 64, 65 degrees. so, we drop a little bit as we get toward sunrise. then the temperatures will start to climb again. still in the 40's in the poconos, 48 degrees. fifty-two allentown 63 degrees down in wildwood this morning. so, a huge range on the temperatures. but, everything narrows, by this afternoon and the temperatures get to about 85 degrees, over most of the area today. high pressure, fairly weak, but at least it is there. so we have nice day coming today, then tomorrow front will be starting to approach. that could kick off an early

shower, and in some spots maybe to the south if this thing sags through and gets enough moisture, there could be another shower later on in the afternoon, and speaking of which, let's see what the computer model says right now t says we will be remaining dry here today. with the exception maybe of another little shower that might bubble up, well to the south, through delaware. otherwise, right through tonight, looks like great night. tomorrow morning, do we start with a few showers? this is 7:00 tomorrow morning. some showers to the north. by 10:00 o'clock they're pretty much gone. by the time we hit the afternoon, is there a sprinkle around, in a couple of spots and then by 4:00 o'clock to the south maybe a shower, so today looks like a dry day. tomorrow looks like a day that's going to be primarily dry. but there could be a couple of showers popping up here and there. otherwise, by the time we get through monday, another really nice day. snow is fairly decent stretch of some weather. eighty-five in philadelphia, 78 at the shore today the poconos, 78 degrees. it is gorgeous, in every single location, the humidity is low the risk of rip

specially, i think today. let's take a look, see what we have out there right now. we see blue skies over center city just few little clouds, to add little interest to the sky. things like great there. we zoom down, into the boardwalk, in atlantic city, and not too many people are out. but a lot of people will be, as we go through the day this will be perfect day for any boardwalk, any beach any front steps any backyard, because the weather will be really really nice. boardwalk plaza down in rehoboth beach notice people are out there. and at this point they're moving around in a very jerky fashion, but they're moving along. so we're getting the waves to come in, too as we take a look, in our neighborhood weathernet work. we have temperatures great. we have sky conditions that are definitely improving now that the sun's up. we also find few showers that have been continuing to hang around just to the east of saulsbury and right along the coastal areas of sussex county delaware, but otherwise, that seems to be moving out. but it is moving out slowly, so it will be gone, and we will be watching for some

"eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson is live in southwest philadelphia with this story. steve? >> reporter: liz, it has been about more than a month now about six weeks since that fast-moving fire swept through gesner street nearly destroying an entire city block, six units destroyed about 13 were damaged in those four children that were killed in that fire finally

being laid to rest and remembered this morning. also we're getting word from the fire commissioner, about the cause of the fire, and it is not something that many wanted to hear. i want to take to you video though, of last night, the service for those four young children the four year old twins, moriah, marry ella boa brothers, four year old patrick, and seven week olds taj, being remembered this morning, at devine church. last night the service for those liberian-american children, the liberian community, coming together, once again in their memoriment on the same day word from the fire commissioner, the fire marshall conducting the investigation on the fire, the cause is determined as undetermined. the damage, just too severe annex tens i have to where that unit was. that fatal fire started at one of the units and it was just determined that it was just too much damage to that one unit to make a determination of the cause. six weeks ago the fire raging

we've learned in the meantime residents if philadelphia's roxborough neighborhood getting their firehouse back. engine company 66 is back in service on ridge avenue. the fire station was closed last winter, after hazardous fumes were detected inside. fumes generally associate with pet troll yan products and fuel gases, the fire department says they've installed radon detectors and removed an exterior fuel tank. a worker fell to his death in a elevator shaft in atlantic city. investigators say the man was doing some maintenance work on an elevator in the new york apartments on new york avenue when he fell. police say the victim, 25 year old, brian, was from the bronx, new york. a new jersey father says he was turned away from six flags great adventure because of the shirt he was wearing. the iraq war veteran says he was told the shirt was ann prepare re at. as john reports the man

shower early in the morning in some spots. then as it moves on through maybe another shower later on in the day to the south. but does not look like a day that's going to be a problem for any of us tomorrow. today, definately not. we've got temperatures and dew points that are just perfect. fifty-six is the current dew point, and the dew point probably dropping little more as we go through the day. the lower it goes, the better it is, it is like limbo. so how low can you go? well, to the pleasant levels today. fifty-five dew point great range. anywhere between awesome and pleasant. future weather what do we see here? brief little shower popped up. otherwise, by 7:00 we're still looking at sunshine over most of the area tomorrow morning though, this is a look at 8:00 in the morning. some showers especially to the north and the west, do we see couple through philadelphia? it is possible. by 10:00 o'clock in the morning, drying out in most spots, and any of this looks like it is fairly light and then by 4:00 in the afternoon, sun is out we see
