"eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers is live at city hall where a pep rail is happening right now ahead of tonight's big game. hi, matt. >> reporter: hi, diana. taking the city by storm is absolutely a good way to put it we're about a half hour or so away from the first pitch of game two of taney dragons run in the little league world series. this pep al, about a few dozen people out here getting ready to support this team watching the game on those big screens behind me. it's taney time in philadelphia and if you can't be in williamsport to watch the team where better to cheer them on than in the heart of the city. >> i like to see kids doing constructive things, good sportsmanship. >> amazing a. >> reporter: today's game has been a long time coming for this team from south philadelphia and it took a special performance from a

certain young fire baller to get them here. back on friday 13-year-old mo'ne davis mowed down the teen from tennessee slowing throwing two hit slut outthat ended with what else but a strikeout: it was one of the eight for the young lady that day and combined with a three run home run by jared sprague lot in the first inning the dragons took home the win. >> after the home run the nerves kind of went away. >> reporter: today they'll take on the team from pair land texas, doing so while knowing that all of philadelphia has got their back. >> they going to win it all, baby, they going to win it all. >> reporter: you think so? >> yeah. >> reporter: you're confident. >> yeah. >> reporter: and jared sprague lott will be taking the mound tonight because of rules mo'ne davis cannot pitch tonight and one interesting note jared sprague lott was the young man who hit the game winning home run for the taney

dragons in game one. matt rivers, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thanks matt. stay with "eyewitness news" for continuing coverage taney dragons in the little league world series. we'll have a complete wrapup of tonight's game at 11 o'clock. it is shaping up to be a beautiful night outside and a good night to watch baseball game. meteorologist justin drabick is live on the cbs3 sky deck with the first forecast. hi, justin. >> evening, diane in. williamsport excellent conditions to play some baseball. this air mass is pretty dry, low humidity so that could favor the pitchers tonight in game so we'll have to see the outcome of that. back home in the delaware valley what a great weekend, comfortable high temperatures again today, right near average. we did make it to the mid 80's, 84 for the high in philadelphia, lower 80's in south jersey and towards the shore points and still right now very nice. upper 70's in some of the cooler spots right now, in allentown and wildwood and the atlantic city airport. quakertown at 77 degrees. mount holly, new jersey, still at 81. storm scan3 had some clouds

earlier. it was a scattered shower early this morning. things have cleared out nicely as a weak cold front moves off shore. that sets the stage for a nice start to the work week. again tomorrow's highs mid 80's, no humidity. we'll see the sunshine for philadelphia. at the shore nice day with a high near 80. in the poconos, how about mid 70's with some sunshine. but coming up in the forecast things change a little bit. the humidity returns and the chance for maybe a shower or two in the seven-day forecast. those details coming up in few minutes. diana. >> thank you justin. the removal of the letters atop an iconic center city building didn't go exactly as planned. the letters pnb were removed by helicopter but only one of the four sides "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson tells us what's next. >> reporter: a complicated comedown. not exactly according to plan but for the time being, the face of philadelphia, its skyline will remain mostly intact. >> little more excitement for the day. the excitement high above center city.

a chopper removing the 16-foot high iconic pnb letters on top of the one south broad building. the problem, that chopper was supposed to remove all the letters before noon sunday. by the afternoon of the 12 on all sides, three down, nine to go. crews doing that contract work say it's a lot of old heavy metal to try to take down with such a small window and when accounting for safe teen reopening traffic, they simply ran out of time. >> it was pretty incredible. it was pretty incredible watching how they're doing thissism still an awesome sight for crowds gazing upward especially considering the history. >> something interesting always going on. >> reporter: it's been a part of the skyline since the 1950's after being built by the wanamaker family and designed as a department store. the big pnb has survived decades of ownership changes until may when it was bought yet again for 68 million bucks in july when the philadelphia

historical commission approved the takedown. >> the building itself, its history is more than pnb bank. >> reporter: marvin and carol knew about that history. they say the real treasure in isn't the letters but the art deco design and the 17-ton founder's bell underneath. in a way. >> this is actually a restoration because it wasn't there as part of the building originally so by taking it down uri storing some of the historical perspective of it. if sunday is any indication, face-lift may take some time. so, wells fargo is the lease tenant responsible for the project. the spokesperson told me today the big letters are just structurally unsound and they had to move slowly to ensure the safety of the workers. contractors will meet again monday to decide if they can plan enough time to remove the rest c-may not be for weeks. live in the sat center, i'm steve patterson, cbs

"eyewitness news." >> developing right now, caught on tape a philadelphia park ranger is attacked in love park. this video was posted on youtube. police tell us the 35-year-old ranger approached six to eight skateboarders friday night to tell them they couldn't skateboard there. he was then punched in the face, wrestled to the ground, kicked, stomped and spit on. police are looking for three suspects, one of them recorded the incidents with his camera. if you recognize them, police would like to hear from you. attorney general eric holder wants a federal medical examiner to do an autopsy on michael brown as the situation in ferguson, missouri, continues to spiral out of control. cbs news correspondent omar villafranca has more on the probe into the deadly police shooting. >> reporter: people in ferguson gathered sunday to show support to the family of michael brown. >> not only do we mourn with them, we will continue to pray

for them and we'll be there to encourage them. >> reporter: brown was unarmed when he was shot by a white police officer. investigators say it happened during an altercation shortly after brown was involved in a robbery at a local convenience store. most demonstrators left peacefully when last night's curfew began. police in riot gear arrested seven did he have finder pro testified its who refused to leave. officers fired tear gas as they responded to a report of people with guns at a local barbecue restaurant and a man in the area was shot but not by police. >> we have a shooting victim that's in critical condition that may lose their life. we had a subject standing in the middle of the road with a handgun. we had a police car shot at tonight. and yes, i think that was a proper response. >> reporter: the fbi is here canvassing the neighborhood looking for witnesss to michael brown's shooting. today u.s. attorney general eric holder ordered federal authorities to conduct an independent aunt see on brown as soon as possible. >> last night we made progress

and we're going to continue over the next days as these dual investigations continue to try to keep that balance of letting people speak, grieve, be heard but keep the peace. >> reporter: the curfew in ferguson remains in effect tonight. omar villafranca for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> a memorial in wallingford this sunday honoring gun violence victims who died in delaware county over the last five years. "eyewitness news" outside a congregation. each t-shirt bears the name and age of a victim. the event was organized by a group called heeding god's call a faith base movement to prevent gun violence. we have learned an aggressive panhandler suspected of confronting a mother and two children at the please touch museum is in police custody tonight. he was spotted near the zoo this afternoon. the mother told "eyewitness news" the man shouted and demand money from her. the suspect is being questioned about the

>> welcome back. now to the crisis in iraq. the u.s. military conducted 14 airstrikes today and helped retake part of iraq's largest dam from islamic militants. u.s. central command released video that shows a combination of bombers, fighter jets, attack planes and unmanned drones hit targets near the mosul dam. the attack damaged or destroyed 10 armed vehicles, seven humvees, two armored personnel carriers and a check point. >> i think it's important that we protect our consulate if that dam is -- floods, our consulate and a lot of people will be taken out by isis. >> instead of when isis was establishing a strongholds with major infrastructure, threatening baghdad, mass

killings, tens of thousands of refugees, the administration took action only when it was a humanitarian issue. >> the months assume dam is the largest hydroelectric dam. officials in libya are concerned the ebola virus could spread even more there, this after residents apparently raided a quarantine center for suspected patients. authorities say several items were stolen including blood stained sheets and mattresses. residents were reportedly angry that patients were brought from another part of the capital to the holding center. ebola has killed more than 1100 people in west africa including 413 people in liberia. >> ♪ thousands of catholics cheered for and prayed along with pope francis in south korea today. the pontiff led a mass to mark the end of the asian youth day. it's the sickth gathering of young catholics across the region. pope francis is the first head

of the church to visit asia in 15 years and the first pope to visit south korea in a quarter century. jon bon jovi accepts the ice bucket challenge with a little help from some familiar faces. dump a bucket of water on you. very nice for middle of august and we're going to exend this nice weather once again to the start of the work week. rehoboth beach, delaware, live look right now on our neighborhood network and there you go, people out on the boardwalk enjoying a nice night. sunshine still out. pleasant conditions on the beach whether you're in delaware or in new jersey. check out the temperatures this hour after coming off highs in there mid 80's today, still hanging onto some low 80's right now with the current temperatures and low 80's in philadelphia, wilmington and trenton. 79 in allentown. look at that, mount pocono 68 degrees this hour and again that air mass pretty dry. as we look at those dewpoints still in the 50's in many spots. little bit warmer across south jersey, so it's a little bit more humidity there but still overall another pleasant night across the region but it is mid august. you know it can't last forever so starting looks like tuesday we'll start to see that change. tomorrow still comfortable. a little bit more humid on tuesday. then it will start to feel humid wednesday into thursday and later during the week. we'll have a chance, at least

a better chance for a shower or storm. clear skies over us right now for the most part. that will be the trend through the overnight but there's the next storm system across the midwest. it's going to at a tock our south and right now looks like it stays pretty far to our south. this just brings a slight chance for a shower early tuesday morning especially south and east of the city, so southern new jersey, delaware have the best chance to see that. elsewhere just some clouds, a little sunshine on tuesday. so, not a bad start to the week. we get this cold front through here tonight, pleasant day on monday with sunshine and clouds, low humidity. there's that low pressure system that traction to our south tuesday. now, if it moves farther north and we start to see better chances for some showers here in the city but as of now looks like a lot of the area does stay dry. wednesday we'll keep things dry, a little bit more humid. we're back into the mid 80's with partly sunny skies. let's time things out for you on our future weather model. here we go. through the overnight hours, mainly clear skies, a good start to your monday. the morning commute looks good. you'll need the sunglasses. a lot of sun glare into the afternoon, just a few fair

weather clouds. tuesday this model keeping that storm well to the south. it is showing a lost sunshine in our forecast. that could change though over the next 12 to 24 hours. wednesday pretty much the same deal, just some clouds around with some sunshine. temperatures comfortable in the mid 80's. overnight you can keep the windows opened. 65 for the low for center city. some suburbs again will be down into the 50's with a few clouds around and your forecast highs for monday a mixture of sunshine and clouds and pleasant. high temperature of around 84 degrees. north breeze at 10 miles per hour. and that north wind is responsible for keeping the humidity level low. that's the dry air mass coming from canada. here's your shore forecast. 80 degrees for the afternoon temperature, ocean water so nice right now, mid 70's. u.v. index is high, it's an eight out of 10. make sure you have the sunblock. here's the extended forecast. again sun and clouds on monday. tuesday slow and that slight chance for a shower especially in the morning. i think most areas stay dry. if it does happen it will be down into delaware and south jersey. into wednesday we go, partly sunny skies. mid 80's for high temperature.

looks like thursday better chance for a scattered shower or a storm. especially in the afternoon. a shower chance to could linger into friday and as of now looks like next weekend pretty nice. we're talking about sunshine returning with a few clouds around, temperatures in the low 80's. we should be in the mid 80's this time of year so look at that, well below average and those temperatures at the shore pretty nice over the next few days, uner 70's to around 80 degrees. best chance for a shower will be later on during the week. on thursday and friday but overall the second half of august still no big signs of any heat returning and i'm sure people who don't like the heat and humidity, no complaints this summer for the most part. >> they're loving it. it doesn't look like a bad week. >> no, very nice. >> kids going back to school, lesley van arsdale is here with sports. >> as we mentioned earlier in the newscast, the talk of the town taney dragons about to play texas in the little league world series. jared sprague lott will take

the mound for the dragons friday against nashville he hit a three run homer, mo'ne davis threw a complete shut out game. with a win tonight the dragons will be one game away from advancing to that championship game. i'll have highlights at 10 o'clock over on the cw. eagles back at work at the novacare complex. shady mccoy did not practice or explain why he did not practice but chip kelly says he'll be back tomorrow. the eagles biggest problem continues to be the defense. they had a tough night trying to contain the patriots offense. allowing 250 odd ground. then there's the general sloppy play between the penalties and turnovers. chip kelly says they are a work in progress. >> you never wear -- you're never where you should be. you want to be clean obviously we got to clean up the penalties and we talked about that. we turned the ball over too many times on the offensive side of the ball.

the biggest thing we got to get out of preseason is we got to make sure we got the right 52 guys here. michael carter-williams about to start a second season with the team and is already giving back to the community. the rookie of the year held a basketball camp today for kids of all ages in king of prussia. over 200 young hoopsters got a chance to get a little advice from michael. >> i wants the kids to interact with me. i want them to pick my brain. i want to get to know them as people, i want them to get to know me as a person not just a basketball player. it's been great so far. >> well, the question still remains when the sixers report to training camp in october will thad young be on the roster. reportedly the sixers are going to trade him to minnesota for last season's number one overall pick anthony bennett. >> he's a great teammate, great person. of course he gave --
