once in a lifetime because the kids was playing in it. and for the taney dragons to come back in that fashion, it was meant for this day. it was meant for philadelphia to wip this game and i'm just -- i'm elated. >> so, there you have it. elated fans jumping with joy. it was certainly an exciting game. stay with "eyewitness news" and cw philly. we will continue to follow the taney dragons as they move forward are in the little league world series another cbsphilly.com. also tonight caught on camera a vicious attack at a philadelphia park -- on a philadelphia park ranger. police are asking for the public's help with finding the young men seen in this video. this attack happened in philadelphia's love park. police say the park ranger was trying to get skateboarders to leave when it violence broke out. "eyewitness news" reporter matt rivers spoke to the eyewitness who shot the video

is that live tonight in love park with the story. matt. >> reporter: diana, technically there is no skateboarding allowed on the steps in love park but it does happen any time all the way. when one park ranger tried to stop it from happening things got violent. it was friday afternoon when the 35-year-old park ranger approached three skateboarders in love park telling them it was time to leave. the situation quickly escalated. >> what led no, sir start recording was the fact that the -- you know, the kids who did the attack was getting really loud. >> reporter: mariano shot the fight on his cell phone. he skyped with us from north jersey and said the ranger had first politely asked the skateboarders to leave. that didn't happen. >> i didn't think there was going to be any reasoning with them. >> reporter: you can see in the video that one of the teenagers tackles the park ranger to the ground. the suspect kicks him repeatedly as the ranger tries to defend himself. at one point he's kicked in the head twice as several

people walk over to try and stop it. ignoring them, the suspect then spits on the ranger. >> if someone tells you to leave, just leave. >> reporter: two other skateboarders stands around. one films the entire thing and egged on the fight. the other repeatedly shouted at the ranger. >> he went as far as using slurs against the park ranger calling him the n-word and that was. >> reporter: the three suspects eventually take off leaving the injured ranger behind. and mariano did give his video to the police after giving them statement, this as the investigation continues into trying to figure out who these three suspects are. we're live outside of love park tonight, matt rivers "eyewitness news" on cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thanks, matt. turning to weather it's been a pleasant summer weekend but some changes may be heading our way for the work week. meteorologist justin drabick joins us now with the first look at the forecast. justin. >> good evening, diana, that's right, didn't really feel like

the middle of august this weekend. very pleasant, low humidity. but that will change as we led into the upcoming work week. still comfortable right now. mid 60's to our north. reading and all town, 73 still until philadelphia, up are 60's in south jersey. humidity stays low. you can have those windows opened if you want. check out quakertown down to 61 degrees this hour, 65 in doylestown, upper 60's in mount holly. many suburbs will drop into the 50's early on monday morning. storm scan3 very quiet h some clouds earlier this evening, they cleared out nicely so that sets the stage for another cool start to the day on monday but a lot of sunshine will rebound nicely for the afternoon as far as the temperatures go. here are the morning lows. generally midst 60's around the city, visits in the suburbs so a very comfortable start to the day. mostly sunny skies for philadelphia in the afternoon with a high 64 degrees. at the shore near 80. mid 70's in the poconos. another great day in the mountains. we'll talk about the pleasant weather tomorrow but how long is that going to last and

we'll talk about showers in the seven-day forecast that's coming up in a few minutes. kye-gwan. >> ferguson missouri still operating under a curfew tonight which goes into effect midnight local time. this is a live look now as local police keep a close watch on the crowds there. attorney general eric holder announced today he wants a federal medical examiner to do a autopsy on the body of michael brown. cbs news correspondent omar villafranca tells us where the investigation stands tonight. >> reporter: hundreds turned out sunday for an emotional show of support for the parents of michael brown a white police officer shot and killed the 18-year-old last weekend. brown's family is demanding justice. >> they just want what anybody else would want if their children was shot down in broad daylight, a fair and impartial investigation. >> reporter: the unarmed teen was shot shortly after he was recorded on surveillance video committing a robbery at a nearby convenience store. police say officer darren

wilson shot brown after an altercation that left the officer injured. witnesses say brown's arms were up in the air when he was shot. protesters took to the streets again sunday. >> we have a right to assembly and when there's an injustice we have a right to have our voices heard. >> you are violateing a state curfew. >> reporter: at least seven protesters were arrested early sunday and police used tear gas. president obama has been getting regular briefings on this situation here. on monday he'll interrupt his vacation to discuss the tensions between protesters and police with visors at the white house. on sunday attorney general eric holder performed a federal medical examer to perform another autopsy on michael brown. the curfew runs from midnight to 5:00 a.m. omar villafranca for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> a memorial in wallingford this sunday morning honoring

victims of gun violence who died in delaware county over the last five years. "eyewitness news" was outside congregation shalom. each t-shirt bears the name and age of a victim. the event was organized by a group called heeding god's call. we have learned an aggressive panhandler suspected of confronting a mother and two children at the please touch museum is in police custody tonight. authorities say the man was spotted near the zoo this afternoon. the mother told "eyewitness news" the man shouted and demanded money from her. the suspect is being questioned about that august 14th incident. niece custody for a prior bench war rant for narcotics. the removal of the letters on top a center city building didn't go on hand. the letters were removed on only one of four sides. "eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson explains why.

>> reporter: a complicated comedown. not exactly according to plan but for the time being, the face of philadelphia the, its skyline will remain mostly intact. >> little more excitement for the day. >> reporter: the excitement high above center city. a chopper removing the 16-foot iconic pnb letters on top of the one south broad building. the problem, that chopper was supposed to remove all the letters before noon sunday. by the afternoon, three down, nine to go. crews doing that contract work say it's a lot of old heavy metal to try to take down with such a small window and when accounting for safety and reopening traffic, they simply ran out of time. >> it's pretty incredible watching how they're doing this. >> reporter: still an awesome sight for crowds gazing upward especially given the history. >> something always going on in the history. the bold 3,000-pound letters have been part of the city skyline since the 1950's when the building was purchased by the philadelphia national bank after being built by the

wanamaker family and ridge nally designed as a department storm. the big pnb has survived decades of ownership changes until may when it was bought yet again for 68 million bucks in july when the philadelphia historical commission approved the take down. >> the history it's more than pnb bank. >> reporter: marvin and kevin marsh know about that history. they say the real treasure isn't the letter but the building's art deco design but the big 17-ton founder's bem underneath so in a way. >> this is actually a restoration. because it wasn't there as part of the building originally. >> reporter: contractors will meet again monday to decide whether or not and when they have enough time to remove the rest of the letters but that could take weeks. reporting from the sat center, i'm steve patterson, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> a trip to the zoo turns into a big time find for one woman. find out what she did.

"eyewitness news" on pavilion avenue in riverside. the fire broke out before 2:30 this morning in the former portland's auto body shop. authorities say it has been vacant for 10 years. eyewitnesses told police they saw someone running from the burning building. the 'cause is still under investigation. now to the crisis in iraq.

the u.s. military conducted 14 airstrikes today and helps retake part of iraq's largest dam from ices lam mick militants. u.s. central command reloosed video that shows a combination of bombers, fighter jets attack planes and unmanned drones hitting targets near the mosul dam. the attacks damaged or destroyed 10 armed vehicles, seven humvees, two armored american nell carriers on a check point. >> i think it's important we protect our consulate if that dam floods, our consulate and a lot of people will be taken out by isis. >> instead of when isis was establish ping a strong hold with major infrastructure, threatening baghdad, mass killings, tens of thousands of refugees. the administration took action only when it was a humanitarian issue. >> the mosul dam is iraq's largest hydroelectric dam and if isis destroys it the results could be devastating floods in mosul and baghdad.

president obama is taking a break in the middle of his vacation and returning to washington late tonight. he has unspecified meetings with the vice president and other advisors. the president is scheduled to return tow martha's vineyard on tuesday and stay through next weekend. >> officials in liberia are concerned the ebola virus could spread even more there. this after residents apparently raided a quarantine center for suspected patients. authorities say several items were stolen including blood stained sheets and mattresses. residents were reportedly angry that patients were brought from other parts of the capital to the holding center. ebola has killed more than 1100 people in west africa including 413 in liberia. >> ♪ thousands of catholics cheered for pope francis in south korea today. they also prayed with the pontiff who led a mass to mark the end of asian youth day. it's a sixth gathering of young catholics from across the the region.

pope francis is the first head of the church to visit asia in 15 years and the first pope to visit south korea in a quarter century. a 24-year-old woman is lucky to only have minor injuries tonight after getting kicked in the face by a giraffe. it happened at a zoo in madison, wisconsin. police say she climbed over a fence to get a closer look at the animal who is 12 feet tall when he gave her a lick and then a kick. we're not sure if this is the exact giraffe that kicked her but that woman was fined more than $680. they look warm and cuddly but i would stay away. >> i don't need to get kicked. weather is looking good, though. maybe you plan to head to the zoo tomorrow, we'll keep it nice and pleasant just like we had over the weekend. if you missed out on today's nice whether you get your shot tomorrow. we're in the low 70's this hour, 73 at the airport in philadelphia, sph 60's breaking out in wilmington, upper 60's millville and

wildwood, new jersey. look at mount pocono, 53 degrees this hour. some fresh air up there. really anywhere you can keep the windows opened tonight, enjoy the nice dry air mass. northerly winds continue. that's a cool dry air mass from canada so that sticks around one more day so enjoy tomorrow. dewpoint temperatures again pretty low. we're in the 50's right now. you don't see this a whole lot during the summer time so that indicates a very dry air mass, which means comfortable conditions with low humidity. that will begin to change though in about 40 hours or so. tomorrow still on the comfortable side as far as the humidity goes. tuesday we'll come up to some moderate levels as far as the humidity as the winds start to switch more out of the east and that brings atlantic moisture and it will feel humid for the middle of the week on wednesday and then the second half of the week we'll see a better chance for a scattered shower or a thunderstorm. quiet now, though, across the delaware valley. high pressure carving its way into new england so that's keeping skies mainly clear. little showers trying to break out in extreme southern delaware right now but they

won't affect the delaware valley. there's our next storm system spinning over kentucky this hour. it's a slow mover. it will track to our south very early tuesday morning. as of now most areas stay dry with this storm system. i'll show you track. so, tomorrow looking good, partly sunny. cold front moves through, the dry air mass, humidity levels very low. there's that storm passing by the northern midatlantic early tuesday morning, could go far enough north to bring a few scattered showers early in the day for south jersey and delaware but most areas stay dry. there's going to be a few more clouds. temperatures in the low 80's and as that storm passes off shore we're back to seeing more sunshine for wednesday. again, humidity will be on the rise. nothing happening tomorrow morning. a good morning commute. lot of sunshine out there, so you'll need the sunglasses into the afternoon, mostly sunny conditions. tuesday morning here we go, 5:00 a.m., 6:00 a.m. there's that storm passing to our south. again dover delaware, new castle county maybe to extreme south jersey could see a scattered shower or two early in the day but by the afternoon, keep things mainly

dry. into wednesday we go, maybe a few more clouds arrive. notice the showers starting to develop to our west. they stay to the west but they could impact us during the day thursday. overnight comfortable, low temperature for center city. 65 degrees, west breeze at five to 10 miles per hour. monday another pleasant day, sunshine and clouds, 84 for the high temperature. that's near average. north wind coming in at about 10 miles per hour. so, again, as long as that wind is out of the north it stays comfortable. 80 degrees for the high temperature. at the shore enjoy it, great looking beach weather, lots of sunshine. use the sunblock. u.v. index very high. ocean water very nice, 74 degrees. rip current risk is low. all right. here's the extended forecast. still looking pretty good on tuesday. a little bit more humid with clouds and maybe a few showers early in the morning. otherwise partly sunny. wednesday humid, partly sunny, 84. thursday we'll see a chance for some scattered showers, could be a thunderstorm in the afternoon and into the evening. still a shower chance on friday, highs in the low 80's

but by next weekend, looks like we dry out it again, partly sunny skies saturday and sunday with highs in the low 80's so still no signs any big time heat coming in this week for the middle of august. how about that, no 90's. >> not a bad week after all. >> all right. >> look like the perfect week for some little league baseball. >> and not so much for the other baseball team in town. yeah, the phillies road woes continue. the a california road trip ends badly for them and how about those taney dragons, continuing that amazing run. sports is next.
