young men, skating in the park. he told them they weren't allowed to skate there and that is when one young man refused to leave and began swearing at the ranger and threatening him. we spoke to the man who recorded the attack. >> i was like this is ridiculous, i didn't think this would go to the level that it did. all they had to do was leave the park. >> reporter: video shows a skateboarder wrestling park ranger to the ground, at salient stumps on the ranger and repeatedly kicks him in the head and speeds on him. two others with the attacker are even in the video taunting the ranger while one of them videotapes the beating. >> just constantly was, bee rating and saying nasty things to the ranger as he is on the ground defending himself. >> reporter: again, police have arrested one of the men who could now be facing assault charges. in the meantime they are questioning a juvenile in this case. so far police have not released their identities. we are live at central detective. syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news".

>> syma, thanks very much. now to the unrest in ferguson, missouri, president obama announced he will send attorney general eric hold there are to meet with federal law enforcement authorities later this week. they are investigating police shooting of the unarmed teenager michael brown. as cbs news reporter omar villafranca says state's governor lifted curfew on the city but he has also called in the national guard. >> reporter: team of medical examiners hired by family of michael brown discussed the private autopsy that conduct on the 18 year-old's body, they found that the teen was shot at least six times. >> all of these gunshot wounds were survivable except for the one in the top of the head and through the brain. >> reporter: forensic experts say wound on brown's armies consistent with witness accounts of the unarmed teen was surrendering when a police officer shot him but the evidence isn't conclusive. >> so it also could have occurred when he was putting his hands up. it could have happened if he put his arms across in a defensive manner. we don't know.

>> reporter: attorney general eric holder briefed president obama on the federal investigation into brown's death. the department of justice is conducting its own autopsy on the teen. governor of missouri announce there had will be no curfew tonight here in ferguson but during the day officers are enforcing an order assembly. the curfew comes as members of the national guard arrived to keep the peace, following a week of violent protests. the guard will focus on protecting the the unified command center that police say has come under attack. omar villafranca for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". the president spoke about all this just a few minutes ago and called for calm and for a deeper understanding. >> the community in ferguson that is rightly hurting and looking for answers, let me call once again for us to seek some understanding rather than simply holler at each other. let's seek to heel, rather

than to wound each other. as americans we've got to use this moment to seek out our shared humanity that has been laid bear by this moment. >> grand jury could begin hearing evidence, wednesday, to determine whether the officer should be charged in michael brown's death. strong new video tonight of a criminal getting creative to rob a jewelry store. philadelphia police say that this man, slides up a jewelry store on east venango street and returns with the u-haul truck after crashing through the wall of goldfinger's jewelers, surveillance video shows him smashing through the glass cases taking a large amount of expensive merchandise. if you recognize him, please call the police. well, developing right now at 5:00 we've got new details in the murder of a man in his center city home. police say that the six five-year old victim was beaten to death, lee stanley was found inside of his home near cherry street on friday. walt hunter was first to break news that this was in fact a murder case and he joins us live with the new information, walt. >> reporter: well, chris, lee stanley lived here alone in the home where he was murdered after his parents passed away but that doesn't mean he was alone. his second home his second family, the synagogue just a few blocks away where he was a life long member with incredible knowledge of jewish history and music. tonight members of the synagogue neighbors here on mole street all wondering how this gentle wise man could come to such a violent even. from evidence gathered at his home along with autopsy results, police now know, six five-year old lee stanley, was beaten to death, inside of the home, where he had lived, his entire life. >> everybody has just been like completely shocked. first of all that somebody even died and now we know it was actually, malicious

attack. so that is terrifying. >> reporter: investigators first called friday afternoon to look into a suspicious death, now know, stanley was brutally beaten, his ribs broken, his killer or killers, discharging a fire extinguisher over his body, with no clear signs of forced entry or anything missing, police say motive for now is a mystery. >> now that it is homicide, that is pretty terrifying. >> probably the nicest guy on the block. >> reporter: neighbor eddie sikes remembers stanley as a friendly man his fellow members of the synagogue, stanley's second family. the synagogue's rabbi and staff remembering stanley's even psyched pied i can knowledge of jewish history and music, his father, a former cantor at the synagogue a lynn later of concentration camp prisoners during his world war two services. >> you don't wish anything like that on anybody and that

yellow shaping there as well. we will zoom down more to that and see right around norfolk virginia, hampton roads area in virginia heavy rain is falling but high pressure planted to the north is keeping all that wet weather suppressed south of here. heading to the delaware beach, that is your best shot coming in and finding a shower or two here and there. otherwise, temperatures are nice and warm at 83 degrees at the airport. eighty-one in trenton. cooler down the shore. seventy-eight in atlantic city. seventy-nine in dover. look at that ocean water temperature 76. down the shore this week very nice water for swimming, mount pocono at 73. out bain this evening, no worries, we're at 79 degrees at 7:00 p.m., by 9:00 down to 74 and 71 by 11:00. humidity will be creeping up and our luck will run out and showers will return to the forecast, coming up i'll tell you when that will happen but for now enjoy a beautiful monday evening, back inside to you. >> kate, thanks very much. no doubt city is basking in the glow of the taney

dragons and their latest exciting win in the world series in williamsport. little leaguers from philadelphia's topped texas in a stunning game last night. so it comes as no surprise that anything with the taney name attached to it is in high demand right now. "eyewitness news" reporter steve paterson is live at citizens bank park with more on the dragons, steve. >> reporter: i love my job. beautiful day at citizens bank park. phillies are practicing. fans are trickling in to see the stars who are the phillies but all of the talk is, of course, about those dragons especially after last night's spectacular come from behind victory igniting a huge crowd, in philadelphia, watching from that pep rally but they really are much more than that. remember earlier this summer, the the phillies, fading out, summer winding down, the eagles gearing up, that was all before this... >> philadelphia wins. >> forget everything you know about philadelphia right now, this is the home of the

how much money have you saved for your retirement, if the answer is nothing, it turns out you're not alone. >> delays new report that shows more than a third of all americans haven't put anything aside for their golden years. three on your side consumer reporter jim donovan is hear to break down the numbers that is alarming. >> reporter: that is right, chris and diane a when it comes to retirement savings more than a third of the country comes up empty handed and has not saved a penny. report release by bank rate find lack of retirement savings vary by age. 69 percent of 18 to 29 years old haven't saved anything for retirement, although they still have time on their side. 33 percent of 30 to 49 years old come up empty handed too. and 26 percent of 15 to 64

year-old don't have retirement savings which bank rate's greg mcbride thinks is the most scariest statistic of them all. >> in the only do they have to start saving today, and do something at a very high rate to make up for all of the years they have forgotten but this idea that i'll just work forever it is not a viable retirement savings strategy because you don't control your own destiny. when we look at long term unemployment it is concentrated for adults over age of 50. >> reporter: there is some good news, however of those who are saving money for retirement, they are starting earlier. twice as many people in their 30's and 40's started saving in their 20's as opposed to their 30's. when you are 50 years old you just don't have the time to compound all that extra money in investments, so it is really scary thought. >> there is so many options out there to save you just to have pick one or two. >> if you can and invest. >> a lot of people are living paycheck to paycheck. >> it makes a big difference. >> see you at 11:00.

good evening, everyone, a good investment work to stop off the gas station before you head off to 95 if you are going down to south philadelphia to much the the phils tonight. lets talk first, this is i-95 right around woodhaven area, as awe approach, southbound, coming from street road woodhaven exit here. notice an accident moved to the shoulder as much as possible but it is still compromising partially that right-hand lane. you are delayed from this point here out of the bucks county all the way down through to center city. further southbound you go making your way around philadelphia international airport an earlier accident has been cleared around 420 area but we have residual delays. looking at our wide speed sensors on i-95 are not indicating anything good. 19 miles an hour both sides of i-95 delayed between bucks county and vine street expressway. delays on the vine heading to the circle or i-95, is 25 your average on 76 and drop down to 17 on i-95 southbound around airport as a result of the accident.

i'm chris may and here are some of the day's top stories for you, philadelphia police have a person in custody and they are questioning, another in connection with this beating of a park ranger, in philadelphia's love park. the ranger was attack, friday night after he reportedly told a group of skateboarder that they could not state in the park. missouri's governor is lifting a curfew as unrest in ferguson, continues tonight. governor has deployed the national guard to patrol the streets, several days of unrest followed shooting of an unarmed teenager by a police officer, and, taney dragons are talk of the ground. anything that with the taney name on it is selling fast following the little leaguers big win over texas last night. the dragons will play gannon wednesday night. kate? and chris, we have had a pretty nice start to the week here on this monday. question is will it last? well, sun will stick around but it will turn steamy here through our tuesday tomorrow, we are tracking chance for some rain by late in the week and we will have a glimpse in

the weekend. it is only monday but never too early to tell, about the weekend coming up. diana. >> thanks, kate. at 5:30 pope francis expresses his desire to visit philadelphia for world meeting of families next year. >> he spoke earlier today during a flight from south korea back to rome. pontiff spoke in italian with you here's translation in english. he said quote next year would i like to go to philadelphia for the the meeting of families and then i have been invited by the president of the united states to the american congress. the secretary general of the u.n. has also invited me to the u.n. in new york. so maybe the three cities together. there is still no official confirmation from the archdiocese of philadelphia that the pope will, in fact, be here next september. we're also learning how the pope feels about the situation in iraq. pope francis said's proved of the use of force to stop islamic militants from attacking religious minorities but he says the international

community should decide how to intervene, not a single country. president barack obama spoke about the crisis a short time ago, cbs news correspondent craig boswell has that story. >> reporter: president obama says u.s. will continue air strikes that have have helped iraqi and kurdish forces push back islam i go militants. >> there is no doubt united states military will continue to care out limited missions i have authorized. >> reporter: on a break from his vacation the president met with top advisors at the white house to get an update on the crisis. u.s. military carried out 15 air strikes monday begins is is targets near the mosul dam which supplies water and electricity for large portion of the country if that dam was breached it could have proven catastrophic with floods that would have threaten the lives of thousands of civilians. >> iraqi army spokesmen declared iraqi and kurdish troops have secured the the dam but fierce fighting with isis militants continue for control of remainder of the complex. isis fighters have taken

several towns and threatening religious minorities in the region. cbs news correspondent charlie dagada who have been on the front line. >> unaudible. >> they could hit erbill from here. >> yes. >> reporter: isis fighters have been chased out of this town and some residents are returning to their daily routines. craig boswell for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". back at home is there a new scam tonight, peco customers in the suburbs, with the target. police say it starts with telephone call from somebody claiming to be with peco. they then threat tone shut off recipient's utility if the company toss not pay an unpaid bill that day. then asked the customer to load a green dot card with money and then get the card information to the caller as payment. at least half dozens people have been conned out of thousands of dollars so far. east whiteland police tell us

they have gotten five reports of the scam in just one week. it is not just scam involving peco, investigators say scammers posed as irs agents as well. >> they should understand it is not really irs calling, it is not electric company calling and that they should before they do anything cat electric company, see if their bill is squared away and certainly they should recall whether they paid their taxes the year before. >> according to east whiteland police one person was taken for 24,000 doll are from a scammer claiming ton with the irs. peco says you should never give any one your bank information over the phone unless you initiate that had call. the electric company also says it will defend several delinquent notices in the mail, before shutting off utilities. jury selection is underway in the trial of a day care worker charged with the abduction and sexual assault of a five-year old girl. twenty year old cristina re gusters of philadelphia is charge in the january 2013

abduction of the girl from her west philadelphia classroom. police say that she posed as the girl's mother. girl was found abandon next morning at a playground in upper darby. well, crews are now plotting their next move in the removal of some iconic letters from high atop philadelphia high rise. workers yesterday used a hell cooperate tore remove the the pn b letters, from one south broad. their operation had to be suspended because the letters were more fragile then they first thought. only three of those 12 letters could be removed, yesterday. well, days are numbers for the revel casino hotel in atlantic city. casino lawyers were in bankruptcy court today. they had originally hoped this hearing would be to approve a sale but so far they are yet to find buyers. revel announced it would close during the labor day weekend but its operators wanted to close today because they say they are losing more than a million-dollar a week.

in kent county today, "eyewitness news" at carlisle fire company in milford, it was packed with local veterans looking for work. they were in the right place. about three dozen employers were on hand, including amazon, dell dot and dover downs. they are all looking to hire vets to fill openingness their companies. good evening, everyone still dealing with a fair share of volume out there on this monday back to work or back home from work if that is what you are doing. traveling on the vine street expressway thinks your westbound side right here. it is jam making your way approaching broad street to the schuylkill. your delay once you get to the schuylkill you will note that is lazy river right there eastbound on the vine street expressway no major problems, it doesn't look like in shot here but you are slow between 76, i-95. give yourself that time. traveling 476 northbound jammed 95 to media swarthmore that is volume thaw see here but we're also seeing delays on 476, southbound as you
