5:42 am
winter for most of the u.s. plus, most of the the northeast could see more snowfall, then normal. >> great. >> on the flip side. >> yes. >> on the flip side summer is expect to be warmer then average. i don't know if i was ready for that, katie. >> i know, and thing to keep in mind here is an average winter for us in terms of snowfall is 22 inches of snow. we would have to go really out of left field here and get a lot of storms to even come close to what we saw last winter. but, let me just give you an idea what is going on out here. i will take you out to the pacific for a reason here. we have heard of el nino. do you know what that is. all that is across the central pacific it is a warmer than average temperature of the water what this can do is set up a very strong pacific jet stream, which in turn may start to split apart because of the strength that it is. it will draw that separate branch and that branch can go up towards the the north.
5:43 am
what may happen here is that if it is a weak to moderate el nino, which is possible, we would keep those two branches of the jet stream but they might start to come back together over our area. we could start to see storms developing ape that is where we could get a big eastern storm as a result. that is where el nino can really come into play here but el nino also actually can help limit tropical activity. that is part of why we have seen somewhat of a slower start to the hurricane season. so, it all really comes together and it had has to do with these overriding climate patterns when it comes to where the jet streams set up because they steer the flow of the atmosphere. they steer where storms head f they steer over our area you can get big storms in the winter a lot of waiting game but it is something we have to monitor obviously. let's bring you back to the here and now. much more short term here. p.m. shower and storms is in the cards here. when we say p.m. we're talking about afternoon and in toward the evening.
