region tonight, will they spoil our weekend? meteorologist kate bilo has our eye on things and she joins us from the cbs-3 sky deck, kate. >> so far this week the city has managed to dodge most of the worse weather. we had nasty storms to our north last night and then a couple of showers came through overnight and into the morning hours but in the a whole lot has made it here to philadelphia and that is the case again this evening. we have some showers out there, and they will eventually get in but again, they are scattered, they are isolated, not a huge deal. worth of it is over north central pennsylvania, up towards williamsport area but closer to home we are seeing clouds and a few breaks here and there there are sprinkles heading toward lehigh valley but that is it. it does not feel like a sunny summer take but it is not raining, at the moment, and, and, and tonight without any problems. showers will be scattered and off to the north and west throughout the rest of tonight. overnight everything stays quiet but tomorrow morning a few showers start to move on

shore. wind from the east that keeps it will cool breezy down the shore and tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. you can see atlantic city and cape may there will be a chance of showers, and that continues through the course of the of afternoon. not a complete watch out but showers anytime and then finally some clearing by 7:00 o'clock and we will start sunday with a good deal of sunshine. temperatures are on the cool side thanks to the cloud cover outside. it is only 76 degrees at the airport right now. seventy-four in trenton. seventy-three in atlantic city. little bit of the cool evening but again you should be able to sneak in your friday night plans without the umbrella and rain gear. that is good news. coming up i'll tell but a half and half weekend and return to more summer weather next week but for now, back to you. was itself defense? that is what philadelphia police are trying to figure out after a home owner kills a man whom he says was trying to break into his pick up. >> reporter: chris, that home owner remains in the homicide unit behind me while philadelphia police and d.a.'s office confer on whether or not those charges are going to be filed. last night police say they were startled when they rolled up to the scene and the home owner after shooting the man to death, surrendered his gun and told them he had just shot him. the owner or this pickup truck who lives in the apartment above was so worried about break ins and thefts he installed five separate surveillance camera. when those cameras carefully hid men grates and pipes showed what the 56 year-old thought was a thief at work, he ran downstairs, first confronting, and then shooting him. >> he just stated during the curse of the opening the garage that is when confrontation ensues between himself and male and shooting follows. >> reporter: fog the the shooting the armrest dent waited for officers to arrive, turning over his gun to them.

sources say he told detectives he was threatened by the man whom he thought had something in his hand but police say the 30 year-old shooting victim was unarmed and had been shot in the back. >> the male had incurred gun shot wound, one to the back of his head, second gunshot wound to the left side of his back. >> reporter: decision on whether the resident will be arrested depend largely on interpretation of pennsylvania's castle doctrine which permits deadly force in a home or immediate surroundings if someone feels their safety is at risk. >> if they are break nothing to his property, i don't see why he could not defend himself report report one neighbor supported the resident while a second pointed out there were options, short of opening fire. >> you see somebody breaking in obviously you call 9,111th and let them know. >> reporter: philadelphia police now say it could be as long as next week before a

decision is reached on whether or not there will be criminal charges. live at police headquarters i'm walt hunter, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> thanks very much. police are searching tonight for suspect who robbed a pizza hut in mayfair that suspect went inside that restaurant on frankford avenue around 10:00 o'clock wednesday night. i pointed a gun at workers and demanded money. he made way with about $160 but in one was injured. also on frankford avenue in mayfair police are searching for two suspects who robbed red robin diner at gunpoint this happened overnight, we're told diner was opened for business at the time and that there were customers inside. that thief got away with an unknown amount of cash, no one was injured. a delaware cabdriver is facing charges for sexual assault of the 22-year old woman whom police say he pick up as a fare. thirty year-old kaleed chuboli of new castle surrendered yesterday. he assaulted a woman on friday

august 15th after picking her up from the light house bar in dewey beach. a camden fire fighter escapes injury when a burning wall collapsed right in front of him. this happened overnight in the 900 block of south fourth street. it was a two alarm fire that destroyed two vacant buildings. another person on the scene was evaluated after breathing in smoke. the cause of the fire is under investigation. well, another philadelphia emergency vehicle breaks down while responding to a call. officials say that the drive shaft of fire truck engine number 69, came off in southwest philadelphia. it happened at island and lindberg around 9:30 today. that truck was put into services in 1991, it has more than one 19,000 miles otto come ter, and back in may some fire fighters, raised concerns to "eyewitness news" about the age and safety of fire department vehicles. one of the longest and most nasty labor disputes in

philadelphia's history is over. today mayor michael nutter signed a contract with district council 33, philadelphia's largest municipal workers union. blue color employees have been without a contract since july of 09, and this new deal covers that period through the end of june 2016. that deal includes reforms to pension costs, work rules, and health care obligations. >> always wanted to have a contract. you have seen me at this podium a hundred times saying that but we also needed the right contract. >> our members told us if we can go in there, take as long as you can get and get this deal done. that is what we did. it was good. it was a good deal. >> more than 10,000 blue color city workers will get an up front down us of $2,800 plus 3.5 percent raise now and another two ain't a half percent raise next year. now to philadelphia's school budget crisis, back to schooltime means school supplies are in high demand but their expenses that have

have become too high for some parents and teachers in the cash strapped district. here is "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabao. >> reporter: as teachers streamed out, parent/teachers store in northeast philadelphia, jennifer kennedy is busy inside. she has spent $300 buying supplies for her classroom. >> we used to have a big supply closet we would go to only thing we get are maybe pencils. >> paper, folders. >> reporter: just a few items she's asking her students to purchase but needs of philadelphia schoolteachers go far beyond that. >> you have to make sure you bring your own toilet paper, paper towels, hand sanitizer. >> reporter: dianne rest nick has check out the her classroom and she fears this school year could be worse than last. >> cleaning. my room wasn't cleaned. i have to be the cleaner. >> reporter: facing an 81 million-dollar budget gap district's latest round of cuts one means schools will be clean less frequently. >> if you need to bring in your own cleaning supplies, vacuum cleaner.

for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well, tonight business owners are seeing red over dinner en blank which took place last night on broad street in philadelphia. now the location of this dinner party in all whiteys kept secret until just a few minutes before it begins. guests bring their own tables, chairs and food. well, business as long the avenue of the arts say tonight that they had no idea that part of broad street would be shut down. traffic was a mess and some say the event hurt their bottom line. >> in one had any knowledge, so it was a little surprising to all of us to say the least. >> councilman jim kenny is sending a letter to organizers saying i would please ask that the impact on local businesses be greater importance before the the city signs off on an event that will have serious delete tear just effect on good, tax paying businesses. well, it is the end of an era here at cbs philly, one of

people out and about enjoying the dry conditions but changes could dampen those outdoor plans. meteorologist kate bilo, joins us now with more, you say, it is a half and half weekends. >> it will be glummy, cloudy not a bright sunny saturday like many we have seen this summer but sunday will turnout nicer and then a really nice stretch of sum are like wet tore look for to this weekend though it is falling more like fall. you can see it looks, ominous right now, look the at those clouds as we have live on sky cam three out over the bridge in the city, from campbell's feel. not looking as bad on the radar picture as it looks right there but we have seen that, the past few days. it takes over a color of the blues but then nothing really happens. there may be a shower this evening and that is about it. perhaps thunder. we will take you to the live neighborhood network at lower merion high school in ardmore along montgomery avenue. traffic is moving okay but

roads are not wet there. 73 degrees at the moment. look at where showers are right now. everything again in the looking all that bad. we have a few light showers moving up toward lehigh valley and poconos. these are fizzling. ones that went through southern delaware fizzling as well. clouds are in and may look scary out there but you should dodge most of the rain drops outside tonight. keep an eye to the sky. don't be shocked if you feel rain drop laying on your arm. 73 degrees in allentown. we are at 76 in reading. seventy-five for dover, millville and 73 in atlantic city. chilly down the shore. throughout the rest of tonight showers will be scattered and sparse but they will be around here and there. there is no telling in an atmosphere where showers will pop up. plan for them and be surprised if you don't get stuck in one. same story throughout the the day tomorrow showers to the south and west, in delaware you'll have a better chance of seeing them. especially around noon. 4:00 p.m. a shower possible right in the city and down through shore points and into delaware but clears out by 7:00. we may see sun in time for sunset and sunday morning
