"eyewitness news" begins with breaking news from montgomery county. police are investigating what caused a one-car deadly crash in lansdale. >> it happened around 1:00 this morning on the 1600 block of broad street. police say one person was killed when car left the roadway and crashed into a pole. another person in the car was critically injured, and flown to jefferson hospital. it is monday, august 25th, good morning, i'm ukee washington. >> i'm erika von tiehl. here's what else we're following today. police looking for's cents in mysterious answers in the murder of two elderly woman. >> this happened in north philadelphia in their home. syma chowdhry has a live report coming up. huge welcome home for the taney dragons in love parkas the team that captured the imagination of the tri-state area comes back home. what a job they did. >> so proud of them. also, an earthquake in northern california as parts

more de nails in the next couple every minutes. >> katie, thank you. police are investigating two mysterious murders in northeast philadelphia. over the weekend that women were found dead in a home they shared on vista street. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry joins us now from police headquarters with the very latest. syma? >> reporter: that's right, police are looking for the person responsible for fatally shooting two women leaving their friends and family in mourning and on edge. now there is happened saturday on the 4700 block of vista street. police found 67 year old dolly evans, shot once in the head, in the living room -- on the living ouch caught, 49 year old ruby thomas found upstairs on bedroom floor also shot once in the head. family members say evans always thought of others before herself. >> my sister, she never bothered soul. she would come, clean your

house do, anything in the world just to get by. the homeless, who ever needed, you know, she helped them, you know, took them in, help up this as much as she could, the lady living with her, she was helping her. >> and police have not identified a suspect but we're told evans had been receiving death threats possibly in connection to an ongoing dispute involving a family member. right now police are just continuing their investigation hoping to find some clues to solve this murder. live at police headquarters, syma chowdhry, cbs-3, "eyewitness news". syma, thank you. time right now 4:33, 64 degrees outside right now. is that changing later today, katy? >> yes, as it always does, when you lose the cloud cover through the overnight, temperatures have a chance to just drop right down and then when the sun comes up of course will go right back up again. so storm is scan three, looking pretty clear, pretty quiet. very thin vale of cloud cover that you can see over the last few hours, but not really

helping to trap any heat in. so, it actually feels casino of cool through the outlying suburbs, but high pressure is in place. even as we take you to the wider zoom, you won't see any specs of green anywhere across in map. now, looking at these current temperatures, sweatshirt weather for sure, even allentown, 59 degrees, little on the cool side for the morning hours, 57 in atlantic city, combine that with very modest sea breeze, yep, if you are taking early morning walk, may want to think about an extra layer. pair of five's in quakertown, 58 in doylestown, yes, little cool out, there but overall stick looking to be beautiful day, mild start with some sunshine, into the 70s here, and we should warm up easily to i would say eventually about 84 degrees, but by 3:00 p.m. still at 83. gorgeous weather for you out there if you have any outdoor plans, absolutely keep them. as i mentioned earlier, we are tracking tropical storm right now. there it is. still well out off to the south of our region here is

some headlights or at least some brake lights in front of you. but thanks to our news van there, catching that footage as we start off our monday morning, no problems on 422, or 202 at the moment. good news for the gang in delaware, 495, has been reopened, in both directions, ring the bell, good to go. that will should certainly ease some of the congestion on 95 through wilmington, they opened that up i believe late friday or saturday, over the weekend we call it. north on 295, accident near the florence-columbus interchange, then working on the northeast extension, northbound near the q-town interchange, keep in mind patco kicked in new schedule on friday, and it includes more trains and fewer and shorter gaps between those trains. so if you haven't grabbed a new schedule, be sure to grab one today as you board the trains. otherwise, mass transit looking good. ukee, back over to you. >> bob, thank you, new this morning, police in gloucester township searching for hit-and-run driver who sent one man to the hospital.

"eyewitness news" on the scene near the strawberry square shopping center in sicklerville. investigators say 22 year old man was rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition. any eyewitnesses are asked to contact the police. a man recovering in the hospital this morning, after a stabbing in philadelphia's olney neighborhood. police say just after midnight a man was stabbed outside of jj's bar at third and duncannon. the victim taken to einstein in stable condition. police are looking into possible lead. more than 100 people are hurt following an earthquake in california's wine country. >> now a state of emergency is in effect for part of nap a county as officials assess all of the damage. 6.0 magnitude quake jolted people right out of bed at this nap a hotel early sunday morning. at least two people were critically injured, including a child who was hit by flying debris. the quake damaged historic buildings, ruptured more than 60 water mains, and left thousands without power. >> i thought it was the ends

of the world t started out rolling, and then just shook violently, and i actually gave out a scream and i thought, this is it. >> several wineries also reported damage which couldn't have come at a worse time. this is harvest time in the region. >> hundreds of thousands of dollars lost there. a "eyewitness news" viewer was visiting nappa valley when the earthquake hit. patty has and told us on the phone the entire house shook. >> the beds were shaking, the house was shaking, the sounds was deafening, it was absolutely terrifying for it felt like it was for -- well it probably lasted 202nd at most. >> patty adds that trans for the ers were blowing all over the place, and that the entire neighborhood also pitch black. now, yesterday's quake was the largest to shake the bay area since 1989. that's when a 6.9 earthquake interrupted world series game between the san francisco giants and the oakland a's.

the highs, going to also help warm things up. in addition to that you get the clockwise flow around high pressure it, helps draw in more after southerly flow on its western edge. so with that sun, back to the mid upper 80s, flirting with 90 even come wednesday, haven't seen much of that lately, then comes that next frontal boundery. again, just chance right now, but that would be our next shot for a shower or storm. i would say specially toward night fall. so three straight days basically some real nice weather and great pool weather and great beach weather for that matter. however, check this out, high rip countries being, having shown that in a while, and the reason is the surf obviously churning up on us. we have tropical storm despite it being removed by thousand plus miles to our south right now, we're going to start to see that water really getting churned up. please make sure if you do venture into the water, do so near the lifeguards, stay safe, be smart. 84 degrees with the sun, nice and pleasant, still not too humid. it will stay comfortable as well tonight, if you do want to for go the air conditioner the wind will turn calm and be

journey maclin re recalled the -- re-injured the knee but maclin said he is good to go. rollins hit his first homerun in the month every august to ice the game against the cardinals at sit sink bank park. the phillies crew over the cards thanks to the phils offensive outburst and another strong showing by the big fellow jerome williams. he went eight innings, allowed one run, and struck out five. those wins -- phils win seven to; host the national's tonight. >> rice and bully got his first start fortune and and made it a good one. union got two goals from andrew, and beat the san jose earthquakes four-two. union plays again week from wednesday when toronto comes to chester. and, the little league world series seventh inning yesterday, and a pass ball leads to run for chicago's jackie robinson west. the little league team oh, from chicago could get no closer, though, south korea would win third little league world series, congratulations to the south korean champions,
