"eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is live, near the scene with the story, tonight, cleve. >> reporter: hi jessica. this plane as it was flying around was going over lots of homes and businesses and that pilot was able to put it down mostly here in a sports field. part of the tail does go into a neighbor's yard but we spoke to the eyewitness who says he is proud of the job that the pilots did, putting down that plane and avoiding a disaster. >> it didn't miss it by much. >> reporter: donald's house is 20 feet from where mosquito control helicopter came crashing down monday morning. >> all have of a sudden we heard this noise like the rotors hitting the trees. it sounded like somebody was cutting brush, with the big brush cutter. >> reporter: cape may county officials say crew on board was doing mosquito larvae inspections all over the salt marsh prior to the crash. they had taken off and landed a dozen times and were returning to base when pilot heard a bang and started losing altitude. he aimed for sports field on

boyd street to land. >> i saw helicopter make a turn and then saw the blade hit the top of the tree and saw stuff flying through the the air. >> reporter: eyewitness bob noel and several other people ran to the field to see if everyone on board was okay. >> the pilot was standing above his passenger and just standing there but passenger was on the ground and trying to get up and we made him lay down just stay down until we got to the emergency room and in my office we called 911 right a way. >> reporter: both pilot ape passenger were taken the two hospital, treated and released. officials say it could have been a lot worse. >> you can see this is a soccer field. it is not unusual for this to be occupied by our student athletes from middletown ship high school. >> i think they did a fantastic job on get that where he got it to, to take away, so i think they did a fantastic job. i'm proud of those guys. >> reporter: officials say faa and ntsb were here investigating and they have wrapped up for the afternoon. spoke with the mosquito control official whose say

that the pilot here has been here for about a year but he is very experienced. the passenger on board suffered a concussion. we are live from cape may courthouse cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> cleve, thank you. new at 61:00 witness takes the stand in the trial of the woman accused of kidnapping a girl from the west philadelphia elementary school. the witness who was working at the school at the time was asked why she did not checked the kidnappers id. "eyewitness news" reporter walt hunter is live with more on that, walt. >> reporter: suspect isn't the only one on trial here, the school district security is also being held up for examination. one witness testifying that people going into the school the day of the kidnapping weren't being checked for identification, another witness another schoolworker testifying that monitors supposed to spot intruders were not being carefully watched. the prosecutor told the injury any their opening argument that cristina regusters is the attacker seen on this video,

kidnapping a five-year old from bryant elementary school in january have of 2013. then it prisoning the child, blindfold and under a bed inside a nearby home for 19 hours. sexually violating her, before abandoning her at this upper darby playground where she was found crying and shivering wearing only a t-shirt. >> the the little girl who was the victim of this crime in this case was horribly and brutally assaulted. >> reporter: attorney tom kline represents the little girl and her family in a civil lawsuit citing lacks school district security. worker on duty when the kidnapping took place testifying that those entering the school were not check at the reception desk for id's. >> unfathomable that a school district would have no need to have a checkpoint when you first come in the door to sign in. >> reporter: regusters attorney raised question about the the supposed identifications of her on video and from the alleged victim statements telling

would have stood up he might not have been here today. wait was a big hole. that was a powerful gun. >> police are looking for two black males standing 6 feet one and 5 feet eight with thin builds. they are believed to be in their late teens, possibly their early 20's, last seen wearing gray shirts and dark pants. philadelphia police are hoping a $40,000 reward will help them find a killer. sixty-seven year-old dolly evans and lucy thomas were found dead saturday in the home in the 4700 block of vista street in northeast philadelphia they had been shot in the head. if you have any information about those murders, call police. we're learning more tonight about at least of the police imposter accused of sexually assault wyoming man in trenton, new jersey. at a press conference today, officials say gust garcia was the man from this surveillance image. he asked a female clerk about making a purchase in the store in the 600 block of broad street on saturday. he identified himself as a police officer and showed a

badge. the minutes later he lifted his shirt showing what the victim believed to be handle of the gun and hand held radio. >> garcia asked the clerk for a drink of water, the clerk went to accommodate him and entered a bathroom to rinse out a glass and at which time the entered the bathroom physically and sexually assaulted the victim. >> that suspect is in jail unable to post the $500,000 cash bail. taking a look at the weather now it is feeling more like august out there meteorologist kathy orr is live on the sky deck with her first check of the forecast, kathy. >> it is feeling like summer again. we have not had much heat this august but it will be moving in very quickly this week. plenty of blue skies but humidity will pump up as well. right now it is clear, we have a few clouds around that is just about it, with warming temperatures on the way. in philadelphia 85 degrees. wilmington 82. seventy-five in the poconos.

twenty-eight in trenton. down the shore temperatures on the land in the 70's, the ocean a warm 75. this evening, temperature will be cooling down through the 70's and we will have a mainly clear sky. here is our headlines, rather, heating up, quickly, heading toward 90 degrees with more humidity and of course i'll have an update on the holiday weekend, it is labor day already. we will have that when i join you later in the broadcast. >> kathy, thanks. gloucester township man critically injured in the hit and run is pleading tonight for the driver to come forward. kevin trant was hit last night walk ago long sicklerville road near jarvis road in gloucester township. 239 year-old was walking home from his job at a pizza shop. he suffered a punctured lung and has multiple broken bones. he could be hospitalized for months. his mother says that her son remembered being hit. >> he actually said he was crossing the road and he felt as if a car was kind of

speeding up to hit him. >> trant called the pizza shop for help after getting hit by a car, they called 911. police in surveillance video, no witnesses and in description of the vehicle making the public's help that much more important. a car crash in montgomery county claims life of one person and send another to the hospital. this happened just before 2:00 this morning on the 1600 block of north broad street in hatfield township. the car went off the road and the driver was killed, the passenger was taken to the hospital in critical condition. "eyewitness news" has exclusive video of a wrong way driver on the schuylkill expressway. this car was traveling west in the eastbound lanes and this happened near south street earlier this morning. state troopers believe the driver got off at the next exit and thankfully no one was injury. city of philadelphia announced plans for a parade honoring taney dragons little league baseball team. that parade will be held this wednesday august 27th that will begin at 2:00 o'clock at

police say when a delaware county man had too much to drink he knew better then to get behind the wheel but what he did next shock even veteran officers. "eyewitness news" reporter noel mcclaren said he allegedly surrendered the wheel to his nephew hoist only eight years old. police say 58 year-old clarence hairston chose his eight year-old nephew to be his designated driver in broad daylight. according to the affidavit the boy satan hairston's lap steering up and down upper darby side streets all while hairston drank a 25-ounce can of beer. his other nine year-old nephew was bouncing around in the back seat without a seat belt. >> i would have rather seen the kid take the car then drive away. >> reporter: superintendent of police michael chitwood says one of his officers was on patrol when they noticed hairston car driving recklessly and blocking traffic at copley road. it was just steps away from hairston's home here on little cross road, where police were

finally able to apprehend him. >> the owner of the car was so drunk he could not get out of the car without assistance. >> reporter: , we visited a with man who called herself hairston's fiance. she said she would never put his nephews in danger. >> no, not like that. >> reporter: then quickly closed the door on our camera, police say hairston was supposed to be baby-sitting his nephews. fortunately they were returned to their mother without a scratch. >> not only could he have endangered those two children in the car who were apparently his nephew but he could have endangered an entire community. >> reporter: hairston was arrested on # one counts including dui and endangering the welfare of the child. he remains behind bars with a $15,000 cash bail. in up are darby, noel mcclear even for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". kathy is here with us now getting warmer outside. >> yes, it is beautiful out there. >> press toy look at. >> nice evening as well. it will get steamy around here before we get to the holiday

weekend. those last days of summer vacation will actually be some of the warmest of the entire month. take a look outside where we have a pretty day down the the shore. we are looking at steel pier live in atlantic city where beach go do not the wanting to inside. it is a wonderful day to be outdoors. our live neighborhood network takes us to the suburbs, and chester springs. chester county to west wins event elementary school where the temperature is 80 degrees. school begins next week. get your supplies. wind east at 1 miles an hour. very light wind indeed. we will be seeing those temperatures warming up but that will take a couple of days for this evening, cooling down with the clear skies, a few clouds coming our way but as we lose that day time heating they will dissipate as well. fifty-eight in philadelphia 78 in allentown. eighty-two reading and wilmington. down the the shore temperatures in the 70's. look at what is coming, whole central part of the country basking in serious sultry heat, hundred degrees in

wichita. oklahoma city hundred degrees. we have not seen many of of them throughout the country this summer. ninety-nine in dallas. the lit rock 94. a piece of that heat will be moving our way over the next couple of days. high pressure is anchor to the north. more east northeasterly wind today. during the day tomorrow we will get in the warmer win. temperatures in the upper 80's. by wednesday that high gives way and we will get into more southerly win. our warmest win as this cold front approaches from the northwest, it will squeeze that heat off the eastern seaboard with temperatures around 90. it is only second time this month that that has happened where we are below average with 90-degree temperatures. he is well out to sea but it will be impacting our weather down the shore. we will get to that in a minute. by thursday we will see drying conditions, lower humidity, temperatures in the 80's courtesy of the high pressure system coming from the great lakes. it is not that cool in the mid 80's. our storms still a tropical storm christobal will be rounding bermuda hundreds of

miles away from frustrates but t still will be bringing the threat of dangerous rip currents. the rip current risk high because of an on shore flow courtesy of the high to the north. he will be moderate to high over next couple of days, waves three to 5 feet. the police only stay at the beach or wonder in the water when those guards are on duty and most beaches down the shore it is until 5:30 in the afternoon. tonight mainly clear and comfortable low of 64. during the day tuesday, sunshine, warmer, net isably more humid. temperatures in the upper 80's. the we have 90 wednesday. eighty-four on thursday. little bit cooler over weekend and a few scattered showers and thunderstorms on sunday and labor day look for a chance of the shower high of 28 degrees. it hasn't been a hot, steamy august so far, so what does that mean for fall, is there a connection? meteorologist justin drabick has a closer look at that, justin. >> the the month of august has been on the cool side and may be thinking does this mean a cool fall? well, not necessarily l me

show you a couple things. we are 3 degrees below, average for the month. i look over the past ten years and found that before august were below average but one september ended up being below average, after that below average august. that was last year, in 2030. here's set up for end of the in into september, jet stream takes a trip to the north, and brings back the heat and, humidity. we he will get a southerly wind flow. temperatures surge a have above average approaching 90 degrees over next few days. as long as jet stream stays to the north temperatures will be on the warm side. that could be the trend, into the fall. here's the official climate prediction center's fall outlook. you can see cooler than average temperatures over central u.s. but look at east coast above average temperatures all up and down from florida up to maine. we will see he in that happens. again even though we have a cooler than average august it doesn't always mean we will have a cool fall. reporting from the cbs-3
