in philadelphia this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> developing right now at 11:00 a shooting death on a basketball court at a north philadelphia playground. "eyewitness news" on the scene of the 2400 block of ninth street. the victim a 17 yeared with was shot several time. right now detectives are searching for another teenager who they believe pulled the trigger. also developing now a family's fears and a community's cry for help to find a new jersey student missing in isra israel. good evening, i'm jessica dean. chris may is off tonight. >> as crews search right now for aaron sofer in a force in jerusalem his family met with the fbi desperate to find answ answers. anxious community waits to hear any word about their missing brother and friend. todd quinones has more from lakewood, ocean county. >> reporter: aaron so for disappeared hiking with friend in the rug terrain of the jerusalem forest. his parents flew to israel over

the weekend from their lakewood home. >> i beg of you, beg you, please, anyone scene -- aaron much please call the police immediately. >> reporter: tuesday politicians joined religious leaders and tally members in lakewood calling on the us and israeli governments to increase their support and search efforts. with no clear signs as to what happened to the 23 year old, the worst is feared. sofer disappeared friday after he and his friend took separate paths down a steep slope in the for rest. >> any possibles including abduction are being considered. >> no claims have been made and that's a good sign but claims aren't always made immediately by abductioning parties report roar the current us rally palestinian conflict ignited in june with the abduction and murder of three israeli teens in the west bank. the area where sofer disappeared is within miles of where the burned body of a palestinian teen was found on july 2nd after an alleged revenge killing.

string of robberies targeting elderly residents in the northeast. keith perkins turned himself in to police yesterday. police are still looking for joseph donaldson and now third man ronald singleton. authorities say these men would follow victims from banks and then rob them outside their homes. >> philadelphia police arrested this man today in connection to a brutal double homicide in in this eve philadelphia. investigators charged 25 year old james mears in connect to the deaths of dolly evans and ruby thomas. the two elderly women were found shot in the head in a home on vista street saturday. he face toss counts of murder, robbery and other related char charges. >> an american man believed to be fighting jihad different killed in syria. us officials say 33 year old douglas mccain was killed this weekend while fighting alongside isis militants. mccain's family says he conver converted to islam 10 years ago. he grew up in suburban minneapolis where he had minor run ins with the law.

bell, cheesesteaks and now apparently the worst drivers in the country. allstate insurance found the average driver in philly will get in an accident every six years. philly drivers are also more than 61% more likely than the average american to get no a crash. so that beg the question what's the safest city? that would be fort collins, colorado. the supermarket chain whole foods pulled yogurt from its shelves in a controversy over the content. take look at this photo of an empty shelf taken by one lawyer who is suing the chain. the lawsuit was spurred by a test done by consumer reports found the yogurt contains six times the sugar that's actually listed on the contain are in. back in july consumer reports tested the whole foods brand yogurt and reported oh and that sugar discrepancy. >> based on consumer reports that came out in mid july, it stated that while the label on

this has happened this summer. the average number of 90-degree days in the summer in philadelphia is 23. we have been well above average the past several summers but not this time. corm scan three shows all is clear the home front. clouds through western pennsylvania. slowly move our way with a cold front that will come late tomorrow. in between now and then variety of weather will cool it down tonight. temperatures in the 60s in spots along the i-95 corridor. staying in the 70s for now. down the shore, 70 in ocean ci city. 70 in stone harbor. 68 in cape may. the owing water temperature still warm at 76. as that front a prejudice from the north and west, it will pull all of this warmth up from the south. it's not only hot but humid. the front will bring chance of a scattered shower or a few extra clouds during the evening. and then thursday looks great. high pressure builds in from the northwest it's breezy, it's dry and very pleasant. even though cristobal is hundreds of miles away, it will be impacting our shore points over the next couple of days.

we'll tack about that but first as we start the holiday weekend looking good with temperatures even friday that the 80s. future weather times out the clouds and a few sprinkles as they move toward the region this is 6:00 o'clock. a few sprinkles in the poconos also the lehigh valley after that the front kind of washes out. you may see a spotty sprinkle or passing shower tomorrow evening if you have any practice or if you're going to ballgame. here it is. tracking our hurricane this is cristobal. right now mack mum winds at about 80 miles an hour. moving tore the north at 15. curving around we are mud today staying hundreds of miles away from the mainland u.s. but the wave action continues and that will create a high risk of rip currents even during the day tomorrow and thursday with those wave heights three to 5 feet. please only go not ocean when we have guards on duty and that's basically until about 5:30 in the evening. it will be clear overnight but muggy lows in the 60s high tomorrows in the 90s again. so that will be our 17th, 90-degree day and on the exclusive "eyewitness weather"
