rip current risk which remains elevated full details coming up, bob. 5:00 o'clock straight up, we are looking live at the schuylkill expressway where for the most part light volume this morning, we have some construction projects out there and a lunchtime visit will cause havoc in center city, i will have have details coming up next. good morning. good morning everyone. lets get back to the breaking news. a driver is dead after plowing into this abandoned home in north philadelphia. >> that crash sent bricks raining down on the car causing a partial collapse. but there is a twist here homicide detectives are on the scene and they say that it may not have been the crash that killed that victim. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry joins us on the 1600 block of sayburt street a wild scene out there, syma, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. police say after a man was shot multiple times in the car he drove into an abandoned home and new we are getting a closer look what is left of that house. he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident but as you can see the house is left,

structurally unsafe. >> literally a hundreds of bricks on this vehicle. >> reporter: police say a man driving his 2008 high untake was shot multiple times before he slammed in this abandoned home that came crashing down on the car. it happened around midnight on the 1600 block of sayburt street. eighteen shell casings were found about a hundred feet west of the crash site, l and i arrived to the scene because the building is now considered a has air. >> hundreds of bricks and front of the building collapsed on to this vehicle. a fire department paramedics and police had to struggle to get this unconscious male out of the driver's seat of the vehicle. they pulled him out through passenger side window because the vehicle was so heavily covered with bricks and debris. >> reporter: once first responders pulled the man out of the car they noticed he was shot multiple times and pronounced dead at the scene. >> fire department paramedics then realize that had this victim was shot at least four

times, once in the face, twice in his left shoulder and twice in the back. >> reporter: again you are getting a live look what is left of this house, you can see, so much damage, hundreds of bricks on the ground there. there is almost unimaginable that high untake ended up doing this. victims have in the been identified but police say he is in his 20's and 30's. several nearby businesses and homes do have surveillance camera and a police are hoping to get those videos in the hopes of identifying a shooter. live, syma chowdhry for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". new this morning police are looking for gunman responsible for deadly shooting overnight in frankford. "eyewitness news" on the scene on the 4300 block of penn street just after midnight. investigators say that is where they found a man with the gunshot wound to the head, there is no word on any suspects or motive f a south jersey hosp with man is killed by her husband in an attempted murder

suicide. it happened yesterday morning inside kennedy university hospital, and stratford where the wife was a patient. the couple's adult son was later found dead inside the family home in glenn dor a police say six three-year old raymond wychowanec shot his wife denise inside her hospital room and then turn the gun on herself. detectives are analyzing whether he also shot and killed their son ryan. >> it is a little crazy. you pull up, and like oh, my god like why is this going on? you hear news a alerts and you cannot come to the hospital and feel safe anymore. >> you certainly don't do a thorough investigation of everyone coming to the hospital. we don't scan them, wand them, that is not our prout call. we have to provide access to care. >> raymond remains hospitalized in critical condition. right now 5:03. lets get traffic and weather together. we will go outside to katie. >> now the sunnies yet to rise over the the the horizon but it is still very mild out here at this hour. yesterday heated up very

easily. day before that, heated up easily. we will gather up some of that heat and keeping things very warm at the start. storm scan three looking good, and pretty quiet. we have had a couple clouds. you can see they have trail from the northwest to south east. it is a sign of the passage and retreat now our latest cold front. that cold front while it is bringing in more cool, comfortable air mass and definitely bringing about some change when it comes to the temperature and comfort level it didn't bring too much in the way of wet weather. this was a glancing blow and it means we end up returning to pleasant weather. in the meantime we are still tracking cristobal, it is still a category one hurricane and will run into will cooler water which what i will how to it weaken away but it makes its closest pass to our area today. that said rip current risk continues to take despite it looking at face value like gorgeous beach day, we do need to proceed with caution if you enter in the waves today.

in the road surface that nullly paved stretch and a speed bump where crews have been outputting down that nice new layer of asphalt overnight. they have pick up cones and we are opened for a morning rush hour, no problems coming into philadelphia this morning. however if you are in center city today expect some delays a vice-presidential visit coming our way, joe biden coming to town around lunchtime in center city. just be ready for some grid lock, detours and temporary closures. southbound on the new jersey turnpike construction right on the burlington mount holly interchange, exit number five and we have a gas line repair underway here along easton road that is block just off of fitzwater town road so some alternateness play this morning. ukee, back over to you. updating breaking news from yesterday police hope one of three men abductor toured and tossed in the schuylkill river can help them fine his attackers. the 23 year-old managed to make his way to kelly drive to get help. by the time officials got there his friend were dead.

police say trio was targeted and believed the attack was drug related. investigators are searching for a group of five or six suspects. >> their hands and feet were bound, their eyes were covered, they were stabbed multiple times, two of the three their throats were slit and then thrown in the the schuylkill river. it is one of the more barbaric murders i have seen. >> police collected evidence the from the surviving victim's home on the 700 block of north second street and he remains hospitalized in critical condition. happening today two men accused of trying break in a murder victim's home will be in court and one of the suspects is the victim's nephew. police say they caught steven anderson and connie howard trying to break into connie mcmurray's home earlier this month. that happened just within day after murray was found dead in penny pack park. murray's husband has reportedly confessed to killing her. the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to put the two men on trial.

the cash strapped philadelphia school district is getting ready for students to return next month. now you'll have two chances to weigh in on the district's future. state representative pamela is organizing a rally at the school. she's calling for more school funding as the the district deals with an 80 million-dollar budget hole. that rally starts at 6:00. is there also a town hall meeting about the the state of the city schools at the school of the future, from 7:00 to 9:00. your time is 5:08. no doubt taney dragons are knock out, resting out after a long day of celebration that ended with a standing ovation at citizens bank park last night. team took to the field before the start of the phillies game. all 12 players simultaneously threw out the first pitch, each one to a different philly. very nice. they looked like naturals among the pros. as an unforgettable summer comes to an end the the players say they are grateful for all of the support. >> the players are all there to greet us and so were the

right now powerful storms are creating dangerous conditions in the water at west coast. the massive waves like these are pounding the shore. but, there is more, here on the east coast the situation is just as risky for swimmers with rip currents threatening to ruin the labor day weekend. cbs news correspondent michelle sedonna reports that the rough water has led to hundreds of rescues. >> wow, wow. >> reporter: wild waves crashing into southern california, may be fun to

ride, and even watch from a distance. >> wow. >> reporter: but up close they are causing destruction along the coast. 20-foot waves are not just drumming up dangerous surf but they are causing life guards to go into over drive. hundreds of people have been plucked from the water in l.a. and orange county this week. >> i have never seen waves this big. i swim in the ocean regularly. i swim around here regularly. never this big. i wouldn't get out there. >> reporter: destructive waves are crashing in the catalina island, these photos show the extensive damage. boats and vehicles stacked on rocks. in malibu the water snapped pillars holding up the famous pier. across the the country beach restrictions are in full force lopping the east coast. hurricane cristobal is whipping up dangerous rip currents. >> there is one in the middle of your picture right now, that is a rip current. >> we anticipate those currents getting stronger, again from south to north, and, you know, right now we

are yellow flagged. >> reporter: swimmers on some beaches are being told not to go out in water higher than their knees. in new york, michelle sedonna for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". right new lets get the latest on how conditions are. they said don't go in water higher than your knees. but what should you do. >> is there a couple tips we can pass along. even if there isn't a high risk of rip currents you get stuck in one, it is really important to know how to get out. with our shore points we like to jump in the waves. we get that. great day to hit the beach but that hidden danger out there let talk about what a rip current is and how you get out of it. rip current doesn't necessarily pull you under, but it will pull you out to sea to the point you cannot get back again. what do you need to do. of course, don't panic. that is a given. i know, easier said than done. swim parallel to the shoreline. you will feel yourself getting pulled out of that current and then just come back to shore. always, always, without saying swim near a life guard, you

know, we are going to ham their point home every time. even right now the area life guards are limiting how far you are even allowed to go in the waves at the this point because it is, a higher risk. storm scan three is still quiet. we showed thaw earlier it remains empty, out to sea is there cristobal. all of the reasons for rip current risk in the first place. still a cat one hurricane making its closest path to the delaware valley. rip current risk is likely to stay elevated over next couple of days. today is a high level or pollen despite a cold front coming through. didn't see too much wet weather with that at any given location. levels stay high from now through sunday really. higher today because we have a breeze kick nothing blowing that pollen around and make it worse for you, bob, sorry. eighty-four in the meantime. it looks like a lovely day besides that just have your allergy medicines ready to go. tomorrow is beautiful. saturday nice as well but heating up and then three for three with 90 on sunday,

new york city police are searching for a fake cabdriver who attacked a mom in front of her three young children. investigators say a mandy pick in this sketch is wanting for attempting to sexually assault a woman behind a queen's home less shelter. police say surveillance video shows the man violently throwing her children out of her car. two of those kids were treated for minor injuries after the attack. video shows moments just before nine year-old new jersey girl accidentally shot and killed a gun instructor at an air zone gun range. the sheriff's office released this video showing girl shooting a uzi somebody

machine gun. authorities say he was killed after that gun recoiled, pointed up and hit the the 39 year-old instructor. he was an army veteran served in iraq and afghanistan. prosecutors say charges will not be filed. well, police say friendly fire is responsible for accidental death of the crew member for the reality crime show, cops. officers responded to a robbery call at a fast food restaurant tuesday night in omaha, audio technician bryce dion was hit by an officer's bullet as suspect was trying to get away. that suspect was also killed. the store's manager remembers everything happening so fast. >> i started typing, so i could open the drawer and that is when cops came in. i kind of went from a blur from there for me. i just back myself in the corner as far as i can while it was all going on. >> crew's video is evidence that will be shown to the grand jury. three officers involved have been placed on administrative
