>> cardiac arrest... unaudible. >> emergency dispatch call was placed at 9:30 this morning, joan was here in this upper east side clinic when she stopped breathing during a routine procedure on vocal cords. after joan's daughter melissa heard news she was seen at lax rushing to new york. >> at 10:00 a.m. joan rivers arrived in mt. sinai hospital in critical condition and was rush into surgery. at 10:30 she was still unconscious but stable. >> reporter: this is what joan looked like just last night, et special correspondent chris, spoke with reporter david kaplan. >> i spoke to someone at her performance last night at the beacon theater here in new york. she was in great condition, great spirits, she joke, she said i'm 81. i can go any moment. she told me she never needed to have a at any point. >> i look so much like a chain link border fence. >> reporter: joan looked fine on e's fashion police tuesday. joan is a long time friend of et. we have done hundreds of interviews with her always funny but often thoughtful

kathy? >> it is a beautiful beach day in avalon, you know, they say it is cooler by the mile, but today feeling like a typical summer day with land breeze so it is warm down the shore. you can see over my shoulder, lots of beach goers enjoying the day and that surf had pick up, a little bit rough, risk of rip currents will continue over the next couple of days. as you can see, folks in the water, but in the soon after the 5:00 o'clock hour just because those guards will be going off-duty and they are only allowing sun bathers up to their waste today. lets look the at the reason why. it is because of hurricane cristobal, minimum hurricane right now has strengthened to 80 miles per hour. that is a sustain wind. it is accelerating towards north east at 36 miles an hour, and even though it is about seven hub miles from cape may, it is still creating swells that is creating problems, down the jersey shore and for our delaware beaches. that rip current threat will continue through friday for

the shore, and the beaches, we're talking about wave heights between three and 5 feet and also the high risk of rip currents. if you are coming down the shore for the holiday weekend please expect friday, to be a great day at the beach, but please be careful, because those risks are going to be with us right through tomorrow evening, before things settle down. i'll have the forecast with kate from the city to the poconos to the shore for the holiday weekend coming up later in the broadcast. >> kathy, we will see you in a bit. now to a disturbing case of vaned list many in south jersey. police believe eight juveniles spray painted racial slurs and hate messages at a cape may county sports complex. vandalism was discover at memorial field in cape may courthouse and "eyewitness news" reporter jane carabao tells us that police are analyzing surveillance tape to track down suspects. >> school maintenance crews behind schedule before class even resumes, busy thursday, cleaning up someone else's

mess. it was a disturbing discovery made earlier this week at memorial field home of middletown ship high school athletic, spray paint every where on the track, buildings, even district vehicles. at best an indication of mischief, at worst, a sign of hate. >> i'm appalled, quite frankly because she is such a nice lady. >> reporter: most just too graphic to show, crude drawings aimed at people and south jersey schools. even high school's symbol the panter's paw had to be covered up because of the amount of inappropriate word on it. >> they want everybody else to suffer for their own stupidity. >> reporter: then the racial slurs, written by vandals who scrolled the phrase white power. >> grow up, really. that is just the year 2014. there is in place for that nowadays. >> reporter: police are reviewing surveillance video they say shows eight juveniles or young adults. >> somebody will find out who they are and better that they would come clean now then after the fact.

>> reporter: investigators say during the process of iding the the suspects in the meantime they have caused at least $2,000 in damage. we are told the rubber track will need to be resealed and buildings repainted, this is just a patch job with school starting next week and first panthers football game in mid-september. at memorial field jane carabao for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". there are new developments in the investigation into the bodies dumped in the the schuylkill river. homicide detectives served search warrants in southwest philadelphia on the 2400 block of south seventh second street. they removed several buckets similar to the makeshift anchors found on those bodies. two bodies were recovered from the river yesterday morning and a third person escaped and currently in critical condition. so far police have not named any suspects. protesters hit the streets in camden showing sold try in ferguson, missouri. newly form camden county police department tries to build bridges with the community it serves.

"eyewitness news" reporter noel mcclaren has more. >> reporter: neighborhood hoops and a little block party with police, camden county pd chief scott thompson says there is in better way for his officers to cool relations with the community then with some free ice cream. >> it is important for police to understand that we derive our power and our authority from the people that we police, all right. we have to be among them, they have to be supportive of what we're doing. >> reporter: still in its infancy camden county police say they are making public outreach a top priority, over the summer they handed out coloring books to children and introduced them to k-9 officers hoping to foster a healthy relationship lack nothing other communities like in ferguson, missouri. >> our interactions with people aren't just when situations are back. >> reporter: chief thompson says he is diversifying his staff, 63 percent of the superior officers are minorities, 50 percent of rank and file officers are also minority and all together the

the department speaks 11 different languages. >> for people living and working in camden like hundreds of people, in support of the rallies, if serg son today local police outreach is just a start. >> it takes time. camden county police force, has been, in camden for about a year and a half now. everything takes time. >> reporter: union members came out saying they are hopeful police will continue to reach out and understand the people they are sworn to protect. in camden noel, mcclaren, for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". philadelphia police are investigating a shooting and building collapse. police responded to the 1600 block of cyrus street around midnight following this crash and building collapse. the driver had been shot several times, before slamming in the building, and he died at the scene. police found more than a dozen shell casings near that crash and they hope to identify the shooter through surveillance footage. coming up on cbs-3

who will day week is already getting underway, sunnies shining down the the shore but there is a concern for dangerous rip currents. kathy orr is here in avalon. kate bilo here in the studios. let's start with kathy. >> it is a beautiful day with

fair weather clouds but as you mentioned there is a risk of rip currents and that is why the guards today told everyone you could only go waist deep. looking over my shoulder you can see a lot have people out on the beach, a few in the water. we will tell them they will need to get out. guards have left and it is not safe to be in the the what ther with these conditions. on storm scan three we have a beautiful day but you can still see hurricane cristobal, 700 miles east of cape may, still churning up the water. now rip current risk will continue and this is how it happens. there has been days of wave motion, constantly towards jersey shore, all that water is pouring in, but it is difficult to have it come out at the same speed and that is why these channels of water, known as rip currents form. now to find a rip current this is what you can do down the shore tomorrow. look for a channel of choppy water from the beach. that is what guards look for. look for water that is different colors like brown and a break in the wave pattern is a good indication, of a rip currents.

now take a look at our temperatures in the region. it is a gorgeous day and will continue to be that way over the weekend. philadelphia 80. allentown 76. down the shore just as warm with a land breeze today, ocean city 81. avalon 81. cape may is 80 degrees. here is the shore four day. looking good breezy friday, 77 degrees down the the shore. saturday 79 more humid sunday. seventy-eight. the hat trick, it is perfect, until monday, then a chance of shower or storm late with the high temperature of 88 degrees. back here live i'm join by lieutenant tyler wolf from the avalon beach patrol and we have to talk about the dangers. it has been a great summer and this is going to be a busy weekend. >> it has been a real great summer, we have had great weather for most of the summer but again, this weekend we have to look out for rip currents. they are strong storm off shore and it is really bringing some powerful rip currents to avalon and all around the cape. >> reporter: let's talk about

those wave heights as well as you look at pictures of the wave today. how many rescues have you had. >> we have had maybe five or ten, not too many, but with these rip currents we try to keep people in to be preventive so we don't go in on those rescues. >> reporter: what do you think situation will be like thomas far as how deep awe how everyone in. >> tomorrow it will depend on how it looks, how life guards feel. it might be different on every beach. we leave it up to the senior guys but it will be about waist deep. we have very large waves. seven or 8 feet. this is not hundred percent typical. we have to be careful. >> thank you so much lieutenant, have a great holiday weekend. >> keep them safe. >> you heard it. it will be another busy day and weekend down the shore, we have to keep everybody safe and close to shore at least through tomorrow afternoon. >> definitely something to keep in mind on a beautiful day. it doesn't look lake there is a hurricane lurking off the coast but danger lies in the water. you have to be safe. keep kids safe that is what we look to our life guards and beach patrol to do. we will heat up heading in the

weekend. a lot of people will want to get in and cool off as we head into labor day. lets look at the pattern. high pressure planted overhead. tomorrow is a beautiful day. it is cool, comfortable. temperatures in the low 80's. just a fantastic friday. that high moves further east though as we head in the weekend and that brings in return flow. that is wind that come in around the back side from the southwest getting highs back in the 80's on sat i day but it is sunday and machine with the approach that we will see southwest flow and temperatures approaching 90, once again. looking for some midsummer heat and humidity to kick off the final weekend unofficial, final weekend of summer, you will have it on sunday and monday. lets talk about football though, we have a big game, jets are in town, eagles at lincoln financial field at 7:00 and what a beautiful night it will be, nice breeze accounts helping push the ball through the goal post tonight 76 your kick off temperature for eagles game tonight. great night for. that great night for tailgaters as well.

sketch of the suspect wanted in a sexual assault on a teenage inner caln township this suspect is in his 30's, 5 feet nine with a thin build and mustache. the 16 year-old victim was walking on a trailer in 11th avenue and foundry streets yesterday morning and that is when a man fitting this description tried to sexually assaulted her and then tried to rob the teen. police in new york city released this sketch of the man wanted for attempted rape. they say that the suspect posed as a cabdriver and then he tried to rape a with man while three of her children all under the the age of five witnessed the attack. surveillance video shows man fighting with the victim and violently tossing those children from the car. ukraine's prime minister is calling on the international community for help tonight, he says russian troops are in ukraine to fight alongside pro russian rebels. russia's u.n. ambassador is defending his country's actions saying the government is waging war begins its own people.

back on "eyewitness news" with a look from ocean city, new jersey, look at a beautiful sunny day but don't be mistaken the surf out there is very, very rough. dangerous rip currents are posing a risk for swimmers. so what can you expect weather-wise, for upcoming holiday weekend? we have live team three weather coverage kathy orr is in avalon but we will start with kate bilo in the studio. >> the holiday weekend, will be half and half and start off cool and comfortable if you are making it a four take weekend and then it will finish hot, humid and step back in the summer. we are going the other direction moving from august into september but weather has other ideas.

weather says nice comfortable august, now we will swelter in september at least first week of the month. let look outside, live on sky cam three looking on the the ben franklin bridge, just some cumulus clouds drifting by the city, blue skies, nice breeze, you could not ask for a better late august day then this one and another camera we have here on ourelive neighborhood network, taking you to the cuts down area middle school and farms in the background there just a beautiful shot with these puffy fair weather cumulus clouds overhead. it is 63 degrees with a light breeze from the northwest win an indication that cool air is moving from the north and from the west. obviously. lets take a look at storm scan three, we will zoom out and see these clouds, this is a trademark, just a hallmark of cool air. when you look at satellite and see that ripple effect of the clouds that looks like sponge paint that is an indication of cool air aloft. that is what we are feeling. cool air being brought down from the north and west. we are enjoying, just a gorgeous thursday across the
