kept us laughing. good evening, i'm chris may. >> i'm jessica dean. >> tonight fans from here to hollywood are mourning the death of the often brash, always assertive comedy pioneer. this is new video of her daughter melissa arriving at rivers apartment in new york city. she was met there by a crowd of cameras and reporters. as the tributes pour in tonight authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding rivers cardiac arrest at a new york city city clinic. >> it didn't take long for the outpouring of love and remembrance to begin. by thursday afternoon a wreath was placed they are joan rivers star on the walk of fame in hollywood. >> i think if you can't laugh at everything you're in terrible trouble. i just think -- i am so tired of people saying, you can't laugh at that. >> reporter: true original joan rivers outspoken style blaze add trail for female comedians. >> on my wedding -- i said you shut that car door. >> rivers got her start appearing on the to note show

with johnny carson. often reinventing herself she later pioneered modern daddy day red carpet coverage opening mocking celebrities and their clothinclothing. her comedy was biting but many who worked with her remembered the comedian as gracious and generous. >> i represent i think i like to think all the women and then my real life to my real life. >> she continued performing her stand up routine until the very end doing a show before the day she went into cardiac arrest during routine throat procedure on august 28th. her daughter melissa issue a statement that read in part "my mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. although that is difficult to do right now, i know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon ". >> rivers said she wanted to work forever. and even at 81, for many fans, her time in the spotlight just wasn't long enough. she was certainly admired for her particular brand of humor. it was one that only few can pull off.

>> diana rocco is live for us in center city philadelphia tonight where many in the comedy community are rememberin remembt sharp wit diana. >> reporter: chris, joan rivers always said that her success comes from her ability to say what everybody else is thinking ton night that is exactly how she's being remembered. >> the queen of comedy made her mark with her raspy voice and quick wit that not only folk pun at celebrities but also at herself. >> she started getting i was the face lifts and so she made a lot of jokes about that. >> reporter: at 81 years old joan rivers career has come to an end. >> she was just like brilliant. so innovative. never take that away from her. she had fun and she had heart of gold. i'll physical was. >> reporter: comedian joe piscopo has known joan since he played her in drag on saturday night life as the dueling joans. she was on his radio show just last month. >> hysterical. she was great on the radio. she was great on tv.

>> diana, thank you very much. in her later years, joan rivers alabama an influential figure in fashion. in addition to her red carpet commentary she also spent time on qvc selling her line of jewelry and clothing. it was friends say a labor of love. we spoke tonight we one of her on air partners qvc's jane tra tracy. >> kindest person you would ever meet, worried about were you hungry? were you tired? she was kind to everybody in this building, and she had such compassion. she would know if there was maybe something a little off in your day. and i think some people are surprised because she was so assertive and funny and hilarious there us what this soft nurturing side to joan rivers schenn showed it to everybody. >> tracy also tells thus during commercial breaks joan always kept her laughing. david letterman will absolute rivers on the late show tonight. she appeared on his show many times. her final appearance taking place in july. during tonight's taping

after hitting that child. >> also developing to night an amber alert that has police on alert from florida to pennsylvania. police near tampa are looking for a missing boy after four bodies were found near his home. four year oldies may ya'll, who's autistic may be with adam mattos who's from the lehigh valley. mate toes is considered a person of interest in the case. he's believed to be driving a 1991 bluford forward f150 with a florida tag 244-jjn. >> new at 11:00 o'clock tonight, busing blues in bucks county. parents are fuming after one district ends bus service for after school activities. this controversy is unfolding in bristol township. "eyewitness news" reporter matt riffs talked with parents who were worried for the safety of their children. >> reporter: for some in this band it's the 4:15 bus. for others it's the 5:30.

now the trumpeters and drummers will have find another way home after school as the late bus service was canceled for this school year. >> i think it stinks. >> for parents there's lot of of concern. if they're work how long to their gets get home. >> my daughter is in the band and she needed a ride with the buses to get back and forth. that would stink. she wouldn't be able to be in the ban. >> what makes a lot of difference when they're college applications and they're -- there self-esteem. >> if they have to walk home on roads without sidewalks,. >> possibly hit by cars. you're having children possibly abducted. you're possibly putting all these children at risk. >> buses for sports teams will continue to run but facing a budget deficit the district said in a statement "we had to take a hard look at what could be cut without compromising student learning. eliminating these under utilized late run activity buses was clear al more responsible option than cutting educational programs, services or teachers ". >> for some parents the explanation wasn't good enough.

>> i know funding is hard. the hard for everybody. but there has to be some way of finding fund. >> reporter: school board here in bristol township is scheduled to meet on monday night where this issue is expected to be discussed. we do expect to see a lot of parents and students in attendant at that mee meeting. we're in bristol township tonight, matt rivers cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> meantime some parents in lindenwold are furious with the school district there after it eliminated the e for bus route. that's left about 40 kids who used to take the bus having to walk to school. the district says it is all legal since the children live within 2 miles of their school. but parents fear the kids are in danger with traffic. for now the diss track has assigned a resource officer to walk those kids from a spot about a mile away from their school. >> hash tag whoops. delaware governor jack markell' office is apologizing for tweeting out provocative photo of a woman. this is a picture of an education event that's what the

governor's staff intended that tweet but this is what went out instead. this is a picture of a model named darja wearing a will he which are joker and passing a peace side. the become which are was altered while that tweet was being edit diagnosed. the model who describes herself as an underground visual artist says in a statement "i did not personally know anyone from the governor's staff. of course i apologize if anyone is offended because the image was taken out of context... there is there is nothing de deceptive or secretive that transpired but i feel people may be digging for deeper story. >> dozens of fast food workers across the can't tree walked off the job today. >> they are demanding higher wages, $15 an hour, they also want union representation. protesters filled the streets in los angeles, boston, new york and right here in philadelphia. >> we deserve more. we work hard are.

>> as we continue to remember joan rivers tonight, we note the history she shared with the city of philadelphia. a history that included the great tragedy of her life. it was in center city at the four seasons hotel where her husband edgar rosenberg committed suicide back in 1987. but it was also in philadelphia where her daughter melissa attended college. she graduated from the university of pennsylvania in 1989. >> of course joan rivers always had a unique energy. she was never afraid to speak her mind and that certainly what made her among the very best. back in 2009 she gave our ukee washington a unique look

a broad investigation into the ferguson, missouri police department. attorney general eric holder made that official announcement today. it comes in the aftermath of last month's shooting of unarmed black teenager by a white police officer. >> meetings as well as in sessions as well in in formal conversations people consisten consistently express concerns stemming from specific alleged incidents from general policing practices and from the lack of diversity on the ferguson police force. >> several days of unrest followed that shooting. the investigation into the police department is separate from the on-going federal civil rights investigation surrounding the shooting itself. a local grand jury is also investigating. >> world leaders have gathered in wales tonight they're trying to find a solution to the crisis involving ukraine and russia. the wheat house meanwhile is preparing additional sanctions against moscow for its actions in eastern ukraine. president obama and other leaders had discussions with ukraine's presiden president tos

there was night one of the largest animals ever to walk the earth. at 85 feet, this dinosaur weighed about 65-tons. the bones were unearthed in argentina. the name is ad in to the fearless nature of that particular dinosaur. >> it's our first really good weren't dough into the way these animals actually existed. largest creatures to ever walk the land. >> also this find of 145 bones represents the most complete skeleton ever of this type. >> a cobra in california is off the streets tonight and a neighborhood there can breathe a little easier. today animal control officers captured a venomous 5-foot long albion in a cobra that had been lurking outside los angeles. now, last night we told you about the snake. it had bit a dog. that bag is expected to be okay. it's native to southeast asia and so far the owner has not come forward. >> don't blame him.

>> i bet they're breathing a sigh of relief in that particular neighbor. >> wouldn't you be. >> absolutely. >> how is it outside tonight. >> it's lovely. very comfortable. no weather issues to night. clear skies. some light wind. some patchy fog could develop. otherwise, our biggest problem is really wondering how hot it's going to be tomorrow. and we do have some storms to talk about as well. let's take a look outside where it is very pleasant. down the shore looking good with temperatures well into the 80s today. temperatures night falling very quickly with those clear skies and storm scan3 it's clear. it's comfortable. but it's not going to stay that way. temperatures around the area have already fallen. our live neighborhood network takes to us springfield elementary school. you can see that in pleasant valley 69 degrees. dover at the speedway 74. feederville area looking at 72 and hokessin 71 degrees there right now. elsewhere, 68 in the pock nose. 67 in millville. 74 in the city of philadelphia after highs in the upper 80s today.

fair weather high pressure sitting right over the northeast moving offshore will allow southwesterly winds to move in tomorrow. temperatures will be approaching 90 with heat and humidity with a scattered afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm. but widely scattered and then we'll see a better chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day on saturday. saturday afternoon and saturday evening because this front will be moving through. the east side of the front you have heat and humidity. on the back side of the front, you have drier cooler air. so the clashing of those air massemasses will really set offe showers and storms. after that, sunday noticeably cooler. with clearing skies. northerly winds and temperatures only in the 70s. to give you an idea what it will be feeling like over the next couple of days, well, for your friday and saturday, in the oppressive range and then by sunday a huge difference. dropping into the pleasant zone. feeling much more like the fall season. look ahead through our future weather for friday morning,

seeing a few clouds moving in but they'll break for sun and during the afternoon during the evening line of showers and thunderstorms will develop through the lehigh valley and break apart as they move through the philadelphia area. so shower and storm activity will be mainly north and west of the city late tomorrow and through the evening. overnight partly cloudy and wa warm. the low 70. during the day friday hot with a scattered shower or storm. more likely toward evening the high near 90. and if you're lucky enough to have a tick to the eagles game kick off at 1:00 o'clock, 77 degrees. with winds out of the north. so it will be very comfortable. on the exclusive "eyewitness weather" seven day forecast, saturday the heat will definitely peak. the late day shower or thunderstorm will be rolling through. a big change after that. sunday, monday, even next week temperatures in the upper 70s. lower 80s. closer to normal. normal is around 82 degrees for this time of year. but better football weather. 79 or 77 much better than 90. >> 90 not so much.
