blinking at crown point road crossing as a freight train, like this one, approached, just before 12:30, surveillance cameras then showing an suv driving across, slammed by the freight train which drags the the car for 60 yards down the track. >> i was in the kitchen and i heard this big boom like a pop actually look a pop. >> flasher there on crown point and river road were activatedded from what we were told and from what we're gathering she tried to beat the train. >> reporter: fortunately police say the car spun out from in front of the engine, sliding on to an adjoining street, before it was totally crushed under the train which rolled for another 200 yards before coming to a stop. >> something must have, kicked underneath and a railroad tie hit a tie or something like that we don't know at this time. >> they had her in the ambulance at that time. >> reporter: mike raymond who ran to the crash site with other neighbors say they were relieved to see, the the driver, who is the only passenger was responsive, as

>> i'm excited people coming to you and hopefully you know someone will like my resume and i'll get a job. >> reporter: in the ten days since revel and show boat closed department of labor has received 2,000 unemployment applications. >> it is rough, i mean bill collector don't care if you don't have a job so they want their money and i need to find a job so i can give it to them. >> reporter: sixty employers with 1500 open position as tended the job fair. state labor officials say casino closings this year are one of the biggest challenges they have faced and requires a multi level response. >> we have put everything we had into this and from working with the resource center and making sure we had our team here we had wrapped response team in the casinos before they closed. we were as prepared as we could be for this. >> reporter: with resume on hand and a lot on the line unemployment casino workers say they are open minded about changing job fields just as long as there is a steady paycheck. >> this gives people an opportunity to get a job. i'm feeling optimistic about getting a job.

>> reporter: event organize are estimate well over a thousand people attended this job fare. there is so much interest both on the employer side and on the job seekers side that they say they will have more fairness atlantic city and county in the near future. in atlantic city aim cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> developing right now new york daily news is reporting an unplanned biopsy performed during a routine procedure led to joan rivers death. newspaper quotes sources say doctors perform a endoscopy discovered a growth on rivers vocal cord, and that another doctor, in rivers enter age asked to do a biopsy right then and there. the report said that the comedian's vocal cords seized during that biopsy cutting off her airway. she never regain consciousness. joan rivers died september 4th. is there breaking news in the ray rice domestic violence case, law enforcement source is telling the associated press tonight that a video showing rice punching his fiance was sent to an nfl executive back in april.

the official says that he received a voice mail from a woman from the nfl office confirming that video arrived, however that law enforcement source cannot confirm if anyone at the nfl watched the video. of course, yesterday the commissioner roger goodell told cbs news that the league never saw the footage before imposing a two game suspension on the former baltimore ravens running back. of course that tape raise add lot of questions in our area about the case, how the the case was handled originally in atlantic city. new jersey senate president is calling for a new investigation. "eyewitness news" reporter syma chowdhry has more. >> we witnessed something that was of a very violent nature and then a law enforcement process that treated it like a traffic ticket. >> reporter: new jersey senate president steve sweeney is upset ray rice didn't face jail time because he was allowed into a pretrial intervention program for first time offenders. >> that was a very violent act and for mr. rice to get caught on film.

>> reporter: pti includes counseling for behavior that led to the incident such as anger management. >> pti is a good choice to give somebody a second chance but some people need to be receiving the punishment they are due the first time around. >> reporter: once program is completed criminal charges are usually dismissed and arrest record expunged. >> it seemed like it was light and lenient celebrity. he is a celebrity. >> reporter: i team reporter charlotte huffman spoke with the former atlantic county assistant prosecutor. he said pti program gives the offender the help they need instead of just throwing them in jail. >> whether it is domestic violence counseling, anger management, drug or alcohol or rehab, that can be a important mitigating factor that would help somebody get into the pti program. >> reporter: sweeney is now asking the state's attorney general to review the the pti process. >> to me the bigger concern was just okay, just do it this way, this is how we do it, no. it is not acceptable.

veterans waited 90 days or more for their first appointment, many were ignored all together. >> it has taken us many years to get my dad benefits and now you will pull benefits for what has new been diagnosed as post traumatic stress syndrome. >> reporter: now, during the meeting va officials listed a variety of changes that have been made, mainly to fix a scheduling problems here and that included expanded clinic hours. live at the va stephanie stahl, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> stephanie, thanks very much. in willingboro police are investigating theft of ipads from an elementary school. 12ipads were stolen from twin hills elementary in a theft that was reported yesterday. it is believed that it occurred sometime over the summer. value of that missing hardware estimated at around $4,800. the defense rest in the cristina regusters kidnapping trial. regusters is charged with abducting five year-old girl

tonight president obama will address the nation outlining his strategy for taking on the sunni militant group known as isis. isis has over run parts of the syria and iraq and responsible for beheading two american journalist. correspondent craig boswell is at the white house with more on what we can expect from the president. >> reporter: members of the president owe bam's national security team joined him in the oval office, in the hours before he unveils his plan to take on the sunni militant group known as isis. >> he has the opportunity to layout a clear strategy, for destroying perhaps the the

"eyewitness news" reporter diana rock he live at the scene in park wood, diana. >> reporter: chris and jessica, those two children were crossing the the street here on academy road when they were struck. they were originally taken to torresdale hospital, we have just been told by police that seven year-old boy is now on his way to st. christopher's, both listed in critical condition. eyewitnesses tell us tonight they were in the crosswalk about 3:15 when a 20 year-old driver making a left-hand turn tried to beaten coming traffic in the 2003 dodge pick up she was driving. she said she didn't see the kids hitting a ten year-old girl and her seven year-old brother. eyewitnesses say they saw children fly several feet before coming to rest in the street. witnesses got out of their car, immediately to help the kids, and they say they were talking to them. they actually used a ten year-old girl's girlfriend to call their mother. here's what the witnesses had to say. >> i told her to stop the car. i got out.

"eyewitness news" reporter todd quinones is live at city hall with the details, todd. >> reporter: this bill is not meant to be an introduction and okay for people in philadelphia to start smoking marijuana openly. marijuana will still be illegal, you just won't go to jail for just a small amount of it. >> small amounts of marijuana will not result in an arrest, or a criminal record. >> reporter: mayor michael nutter and councilman james ken agreed to an amended version of kenny's bill which says in philadelphia, someone caught with 30 grams or about an ounce or less of marijuana will pay only a $25 fine and police catch who is smoking a small amounts that would be only be a hundred dollars fine or nine hour community service. kenny argues saying marijuana is a gateway drug to other drugs, is bogus. >> the worst message we can send is you have a criminal record, now to carry with you because you made a mistake. >> reporter: kenny contend his

"eyewitness news" at roman catholic high school in center city where mayor stopped for a tour this morning. he visited classrooms and also took time to speak to the students. septa is teaming up with montgomery county emergency services to help prevent suicide. signs explaining where help is available were posted at boarding areas of the norristown transportation center. septa says 50 percent of the

69 degrees, and cloud, ban, spread ago cross the entire sky. wind east/south east at 5 miles an hour. much different then yesterday. on storm scan three all is dry at home but you can see this comma shaped signature on our radar, and that is a sign of the strong area of low pressure, and trailing cold front, that cold front setting off some severe weather through parts of the midwest. the right new we are looking at a high threat of severe weather through the cleveland, canton areas in ohio, we do have have tornado warnings, one tornado on the ground and this is lifting towards the northeast. the good news is more severe part of the storms where greater dynamics strong to severe storms are riding to the north of the region tomorrow but we still will be seeing some thunderstorms. right now, in philadelphia it is 80. sixty-nine, pretty cool in the poconos. warm to the south and west, little rock, 91 and piece of it will be moving toward the delaware valley. we will warm it up and then later in the seven day forecast, we will cool it

down. nothing like bismarck or billings, which is expect a lit light snow at 42, but it will be noteably cooler during next week. we are tracking this area of low pressure, they are storms associated witt, moving east ward, during the the day tomorrow our best chance of seeing showers and thunderstorms toward dinner hour into the evening, so five are six or 7:00 from the philadelphia and south and east and then dries out very quickly and sun will be returning early friday morning, drying it out, so that dinner hour into the evening will be our best chance of seeing some showers and some strong thunderstorms, in those scattered strong storms, some gusty winds, heavy downpours and frequent lightening. so please be aware of that if you have plans tomorrow afternoon or early evening. here's how it will feel over next couple of days, heat returns tomorrow and so does the hugh made head of those storms, after that front, friday and saturday, very pleasant, just nice days to go outside. overnight partly cloudy, muggy low of 68. tomorrow storms in the afternoon and evening.

high temperature of 86. on the exclusive seven day forecast and shore cast you could see cooler air friday, saturday a few more showers only 73, after that, temperatures really staying in the mid to upper 70's with a shower almost every other day, down the shore staying cool as well, with temperatures, in the lower 70's. you may not note necessity this but we are halfway through hurricane season. it has been a quiet one so far. meteorologist justin drabick shows us why it has been less than active this year. >> thanks, kathy. >> typically this time of the year we have seen most activity in our tropical season but so far as expect we have not seen a whole lot this year. this is a shot of the first named storm of the season, that was hurricane arthur but today marks peak of the hurricane season september 10th and we will be on that downhill trend but watch what happens in later october we will see another little spike in activity. obviously we are in the out of the woods just yet but so far part of the reason for inactive season is an increasing el nino which is warmer than average ocean water in the eastern pacific

ocean. we have had four named storms in the atlantic, three of those were hurricanes, up to today we averaged six named storms. we are below that. but right on target with three hurricanes for the average. but usually when we see, less activity atlantic city, pacific is very active and that has been the case, 16 named storms so far, ten of those hurricanes. what is happening right now outside in the atlantic, not a whole lot. two systems to watch. one out in the far earn atlantic this does have have have a 70 percent chance of forming over the next five days and continuing to track off to the northwest, closer to home, one disturbance over bohamas, very small chance of forming over the next few days. hurricane season does run until november 30th. i'm meteorologist justin drabick in the cbs-3 studio. on the healthwatch, a long term use of pills, for anxiety and sleep problems could be linked to alzheimer's disease. researchers in france, canada examined 9,000 patients. they found those who took the pills three months or more had

a greater risk for alzheimer's. they also found with risk increased -- that risk increased with longer drug use and more powerful pills. tomorrow, of course, is september 11th, and 13 years after the terror attack on america thousands of first responders, and survivors, continue suffering health problems this were exposed to toxic dust and debris at ground zero. cbs news correspondent allison harmlen looks at a program that monitors new york city fire fighters, and e ms workers. >> reporter: retired new york city fire fighter lieutenant terence jordan requires oxygen 24 hours a day. he has severe lung disease. >> i developed copd, emphysema, asthma, bronchitis, sleep apnea. >> reporter: he spent days at ground zero searching for survivors, and even helped rescue a fellow fire fighter. >> that is our job, you know, we're there to help people, save people. >> reporter: in the past 13

years 89 new york city fire fighters and emergency medical services workers have died, from illnesses related to their exposure on 9/11. what do we know about what was in the air that day. >> world trade center dust is a complex mixture. >> reporter: doctor david, heads up the world trade center health program that monitors 16,000 fire fighters, and e ms workers. >> we do treatment for both respiratory conditions, mental health conditions. >> reporter: cancer is also a big concern, the program is seen more than 800 cancers related to ground zero, exposure. >> and, we can improve, their quality of life. >> reporter: jordan says program helps them get rehab for their lungs. >> i have seven children, my lovely wife, grandchildren. >> reporter: you are not going anywhere. >> i'm not going anywhere. >> reporter: in fact he is training in the 9/11 fund raise they are month. allison harmlen for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". fire fighters world trade

brother and sister, hit and injured by a pickup truck this happened a short time ago. good evening i'm jessica dean. aim chris may. diana rock he is live at academy road in the northeast, diane, what do we know. >> reporter: chris and jessica, both of those children have now been taken to st. christopher's hospital and they are listed in critical condition at this hour. police told us they were coming from decatur school, and in the crosswalk here, at academy road when they were struck two children struck cross ago contacted my road this afternoon. police say around 3:00 15a ten year-old little girl and brother were in the crosswalk when a 20 year-old driver making a left hand turn tried to beaten coming traffic and struck the kids. she was driving the 2003 dodge pickup. eyewitnesses say she was saying she didn't see kids when she hit both of them, they saw children fly several feet before coming to a rest in the street. witnesses stopped their car and got out to help the
